View Full Version : Three Fun Things To Do In Your Town or City
OH Nuts! 02-12-2008, 10:48 PM It occured to me that everyplace probably has fun stuff to do. Here are three from mine. Have to admit I'm from a BIG city so it's very easy to come up w three.
1. Eddie's Sweet Shop - Forest Hills, Queens A real old-fashioned ice cream shop where they make their own ice cream. And they make a great pistachio. A fun place to take a date too.
2. The Painted Pot - Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn You paint bisqueware and the store glazes and kilns it for you. There are similar places in Manhattan but they are more $$$ and the PP is just as nice. Great for kids & dates. Be forewarned-it's addicting.
3. A round trip on the Staten Island Ferry. Can't beat the price. $0.00 You get a great view of the skyline of the city. Fun for kids & dates. If you get off in Manhattan think about touring the Stock Exchange on Broad St, walking around Wall St, and maybe stopping off @ the 120 B'way McDonalds--which is very upscale with someone playing the piano and ticker tape on a wall. Not so much for a date but educational for kids (fun too)

Deffinately, gunfights are much better than going to the Henry Ford/Greenfeild Village museum , or seeing a car plant tour, anyday

Greenfield Village is in Dearborn. :p
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 02-13-2008, 12:49 AM 1) visit Ft. Stanwix
2) visit Erie Canal Village
3) get the hell out of here cause there's nothing else and even those things I mentioned arn't fun past 3rd grade. Also, Wal*mart as well. Can't go there without finding the whole of the city there and conversating with at least 243 people you know.
Mikado 02-13-2008, 01:08 AM Greenfield Village is in Dearborn. :p
Well, I'm from Canada, thats part of Detroit isnt it? (like a suburb?):)
Mikado 02-13-2008, 01:11 AM 2) visit Erie Canal Village
Id love to tour the Erie canal by barge and visit the living history museum...mind you, thats what its like, things close to home are never as interesting, I live within 25 mins of Niagara Falls and barely glance at it when I'm up that way.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Not to mention you get over it after a field trip there practically once a year while you're in elementary school.
I've been to Niagara falls in 2004 I think it was. It's pretty awesome.
mc_light1202 02-13-2008, 02:33 AM 1. Enjoy a day of shopping at the 3rd St. promenade and then walk over to the beach and enjoy the pier.
2. Walk down Hollywood Blvd. if you dare.
3. Six Flags
4. The Laugh Factory.
5. Universal City walk.
This is kind of a big city, so there's a lot to do whenever you want to do it.
Mikado 02-13-2008, 02:39 AM Yeah, I guess you're right. Not to mention you get over it after a field trip there practically once a year while you're in elementary school.

you havent really seen the falls, until you see them in winter!
Stormtracker TF 02-13-2008, 04:19 AM Well, I'm from Canada, thats part of Detroit isnt it? (like a suburb?):)
Yeah, it's a suburb. But if you want to talk about the suburbs, then that's about a 180 degree turn from anything I mentioned.
phoebe7165 02-13-2008, 04:29 AM Not so much in my town but in the area, Kennedy Space Center is about 10 min. away, the beach is about a 20 min. drive, and there's a fish camp about a 15 min. drive for those who want to take an airboat ride, or do whatever else they do there!!
Kazza 02-13-2008, 10:03 AM There's not much in this town. Apparently 30 thousand people don't attract much of anything.
1-Sleep
2-Walmart
3-The city park
sunshinefizzy 02-13-2008, 10:16 AM 1) Harborfest. It lasts for 3-4 days in July and there's food, music and a great fireworks display. I personally never cared for it but the fireworks are pretty though.
2) The hilarious Bridge Street Run. That's when all the college students run down East and West Bridge street because that is where all the bars are and you drink yourself into oblivion. Well the bridge is coming down this year for repair so none of that this year but come back in 2009.
3) Come visit Fort Ontario and see where all the Jewish refugees of WW2 came to stay until the end of the war and there is also a French and Indian battle reenactment during the summer. It's in August I think.
Other than that have fun eating, sleeping, and picking your nose.
You can visit:
1. The Beachaven Vineyards & Winery, & see how the wine is made & sample some of it.
2. The local museum
3. The parks along the river
4. Fort Campbell Army Base (have to get a pass for that)
5. The Roxy (they put on plays every weekend)
6. Three movie theaters spread out across the city
7. Two bowling allies & two skating rinks
8. The Governers Square Mall
9. Austin Peay University (they put on plays, concerts & sporting events)
10. Greenwood Cemetery (lots of old historic grave sites also Frank Sutton "Sgt. Carter" is buried there).
Number 9 Dream 02-13-2008, 07:57 PM Well, Long Island is pretty decent if you know where to look. Here are some fun things to do in my area:
1.) Take a walk in downtown Port Jefferson. It's a very quaint, touristy town right by the water. You can watch the ferries dock in and out, walk in the little park area and have lunch on the picnic benches, get dinner or snacks at numerous restaurants/cafes (my favorites are Toast, Salsa Salsa, Pizza Pie, Tiger Lily, and Ralph's Italian Ice), or just shop around at all the little shops lining the road. Sometimes they have craft fairs or bands playing on certain days. There's TONS of bars if that's your thing. There's even a theatre that puts on great shows/improvs every week. It's a great place to hang out in the spring or summer.
2.) Take a drive "Out East", as we call it. That's heading out towards the Hamptons, Greenport, etc. It's a beautiful ride out that way and is as country as Long Island will get  Loads of farm stands, cute little country type stores, and just a pretty atmosphere all around. In the fall, there's pumpkin or apple picking and in the warmer months they usually have a lot of wine tasting (lots of vineyards out that way!)
3.) Movies! Damn, there are TONS of theaters around here! My friends and I do that all the time when there's nothing else to do or it's a rainy day.

Well your town has more then mine we don't even have a walmart. The 3 things to do in our town is
1. Bowling Alley
2. Swimming Pool
3. Kids usually go hang out at Subway
We don't have much to do in our town if we want to do anything we have to go to other towns and those towns are atleast 30 minutes away.

There's Parks, that's about it. Unless I drive to Dallas, Arlington or Ft.Worth.
When I look out of my windows I can see a big ass hill/moutain, land grass and a few houses
bingbangbaby 02-14-2008, 09:49 PM Where I live now (Florida):
1. Visit Busch Gardens
2. Go to the beach. I like the ones near the sponge docks too because you can do some shopping at little unique stores, go to indoor aquariums and see some big fish, eat a lot of Greek food, take a boat tour, buy natural sponges, or watch the pelicans and dolphins
3. I enjoy just driving the causeways to cross the Gulf of Mexico. Great views and interesting sights, plus places to stop if you want to stop.
When I lived in Michigan:
1. Michigan State University and everything on campus: Planetarium, Art museum, children's garden, MSU dairy store, MSU farms and more
2. Walk/explore Riverwalk (a looooong trail that ran all through the city with lots of great places to stop on the way and things to see)
3. Visit the state capital and downtown area
When I lived in Missouri:
1. Eat some of the city's trademark foods such as toasted ravioli, Ted Drewes Frozen Custard, Italian cuisine from "the hill."
2. Take a walk along the whole downtown area including the Gateway Arch grounds, Laclede's Landing, riverboats, stay for the nightlife
3. Even if you don't have kids, visit the Magic House Children's Museum. It is a the greatest museum of its kind anywhere and you don't have to be a kid to be astounded, awed and amazed. So much fun.
