I got WBK thru a trade today, and discovered that the episode that Beau DeLabar was introduced has two versions. I have both of these versions. The version that I have had recorded from WPIX 11 last year had Kotter in the school yard meeting Beau for the first time, but the American Life version, which I got today, showed it differently. It showed the Sweathogs (minus Travolta) with Beau scoring dates and flashing back to when they first met, thereby eliminating Gabe Kaplan's appearance in the episode. Does any one know that? Very interesting.

Each season has its own case Barbarino face is on the 1 season case,Horshack face is on the 2nd season case,Washington face is on the 3rd season case, Epstein face is on the final season case. There were two versions of this episode. The first version had Kotter only in the opening and closing scenes, and the other version had Washington, Horshack, and Epstein reminiscing with Beau on how the met each other, eliminating Kotter's appearance. I have both versions of the episode and would have been disappointed if they used the alternate without Kotter.

I think the reason for there being two versions was due to the fact that this episode was originally scheduled to air on September 18, 1978 and would have been the third episode of the season.

Jimmy Carter's speech to Congress led ABC to postpone the episode. I bet the original version had Kotter. When it was rescheduled to air on Oct 16, 1978, they shot those additional scenes with Washington, Horshack, and Epstein reminiscing with Beau to make the episode flow better since Beau had been in the episodes that had aired previously September 30 thru October 9th 1978.

Only a hunch.

LOL!!! Yeah I'm not a Beau fan either! As a teenager watching Kotter, I didn't really care for him than. I liked Vinnie, and was disappointed when he was leaving. :( But happy he at least appeared in some of the shows.:) My favorite sweat hog was Juan Epstein though! Vinnie was hot , no doubt and my friends crushed on him where my heart went to Juan! :) And of course I always liked Washington and Horshak. Anyway Beau never did anything for me, character wise or crush wise.:(

So I caught the episode the other night with Mary Johnson, and I figured I'd give Beau a fair shot. Nah, still don't care for him! :( I watched last night when they bought the used car from Vinnie's uncle. FUNNY!!! Like old times, except no Mr. Kotter. :( Vinnie's aunt was hilarious!!! :lol: And when Juan was pretending to be the uncle, to get the money back (his face all bandaged up, laying on the gurney) was hilarious!!! :lol:

beau is the reason why I may not buy season 4

I never knew about this alternate version until I watched it on Tubi TV today.

Wonder why the scene with Kotter was taken out in favor of footage that made the episode look like a flashback.

Did this alternate version air on the network, or was it put in the syndicated version.

The version on Shout Factory's box set is the original broadcast version with the pre-credits scene where Kotter meets Beau.

Yes there was turmoil going on behind the scenes during the 4th season.

I merged two threads. This theory makes sense to me.

There were different master copies. They used either version for syndication and streaming. Some sources received the alternate version. The DVD used the original intended version with Kotter.

I'm pretty sure I watched the original airing, as I was a regular fan of the show, but don't really remember which version I saw.

I remember it as the intro with Gabe, but that was 47 years ago, so don't hold me to that!
