I really think that the show would have lasted much longer and you would have seen the family make changes. The figure of James Evans gave the show a stable force and enabled the show to relate to all people. I do think that it was a shame that he left the series and it lost some of its relevance with his departure. It sure did, if it weren't for the characters of Willona and Penny, the show would make my worst 50 list. As many others have astutely pointed out on another thread, there was so much wrong with the show. Norman Lear had many shows that were winners but this was surely not one of them. It may have been ok to show Florida venturing out back into the dating world, but to have her get engaged (and marry this guy offscreen)--YUCK |
