LuLu Rogers 01-21-2008, 03:01 PM Has anyone here ever read the book that M*A*S*H was based on by Richard Hooker? Scoobiedoo30 01-21-2008, 04:53 PM there was a book about M*A*S*H samanddiane4eva 01-21-2008, 05:53 PM I've read it and I liked it. catlover79 01-21-2008, 05:58 PM I've never read it, but I think my brother-in-law has a copy. Maybe I can borrow it one of these days. LuLu Rogers 01-21-2008, 06:15 PM I've read it and I liked it. So you think it's a good read then? I'm thinking about reading it myself and I was wondering what it was like. samanddiane4eva 01-21-2008, 06:19 PM Definitely. LuLu Rogers 01-21-2008, 06:28 PM Definitely. Great! Thanks! I'm going to see if they have it at the library. catlover79 01-21-2008, 07:01 PM Cute new avatar, Lu. LuLu Rogers 01-21-2008, 07:21 PM Cute new avatar, Lu. Thankies! :D tdf4077 01-21-2008, 11:19 PM I've read it and the first sequal...I believe there are like 7 or 8 maybe sequal...idk for sure. I didn't like it quite as much just because it's more similar to the movie than the tv show, and live i've said elsewhere, i just perfer the tv show. But it was still good. treky 01-23-2008, 03:03 AM I haven't read it in years, but I think it's good. I have an old copy that I bought once way back in 1977. For those who never read it, you'll be a little surprised at some of the changes-like Major Frank Burns is Captain Frank Burns, the Frank Burns from the show is a combination of Major Frank Burns and another officer (I forget his name), Major Maragret Houlihan is Major Margaret O'Houlihan, and it has a lot more characters than the show. And Klinger isn't in it. Either is Zale, Igor, and Ginger Ballis. treky 01-23-2008, 03:07 AM I've read it and the first sequal...I believe there are like 7 or 8 maybe sequal...idk for sure. But it was still good.Richard Hooker (that was his pen name-his real name was Richard Thornberger) wrote the sequels as a-I guess you could say-"attack" on the TV show; which he hated. LuLu Rogers 01-23-2008, 05:54 PM I'd say it's the same kind as in the early episodes. Awesome! The first 3 seasons of M*A*S*H are my favorite! I wonder why...;) treky 01-24-2008, 02:12 AM I read my previous post over, wher I said what's in the book; and I saw that I made a couple mistakes (give me a break, I typed it at 2 a.m. ) so I went back and corrected them. Radar=) 02-21-2008, 11:35 PM I never read the book or saw the movie. :p vtunie 02-21-2008, 11:43 PM I've read it. It's a little different from both the movie and the show, I thought. But on balance it is close in places to Catch-22 by Joseph Heller (and that novel's movie adaptation, which is very close). More bleak and ABSURD. Especially absurd. They had to water that down a fair bit for TV, I suppose. PS. Just to be clear, I really liked it. It, Heller and Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five had a lot to do with shaping my outlook on life back in the freewheeling seventies... :) Miss Lisa 03-27-2008, 04:10 PM I've seen the movie, but I have never read the book. My aunt had read it and said that she had liked it, but to wait until I was a little older. LuLu Rogers 03-28-2008, 11:02 PM I ended up checking the book out at the library. I LOVED it! Great writing. :D treky 03-29-2008, 01:53 AM yes it is a great book! I'm going to buy a new copy, my 30-year-old copy is falling apart. Did you ever see the movie Lauran? LuLu Rogers 03-29-2008, 02:53 AM I've seen parts of it. Miss Lisa 03-29-2008, 03:42 PM How old do you think that some one needs to read the book? I'm fifteen. LuLu Rogers 03-29-2008, 04:19 PM How old do you think that some one needs to read the book? I'm fifteen. I might wait a couple years if I were you. |
