the light of the TV? Last night My lamp fell off the table and wouldn't work and I had to sit in my room with just the light from the TV the rest of the evening. That was very difficult for me because I don;t sit in a room with just the light of the tv until I go to bed. Not at 7pm in the eveing-lol

Who else find it hard to sit in a room and watch TV with just the TV LIGHT??

I like it that way. There is no reason for the light to be on unless I am going to read, and why would I read if I have the tv on?

I sleep with the TV on so it doesn't really bother me.. with just the TV Light..;)

I do that all the time. If I can't sleep, I'll turn on the TV in my room and lay in bed watching something.

I hate that!

My ex always wanted to watch movies with all the lights out. I fall asleep no matter how good the movie is within 15 minutes when its like that. I need at least one light on.

We now have these "salt lamps" that stay on all the time pretty much (they're on timers) so that has helped. They give off a soothing, amber glow so it's not too bright, but enough I won't fall asleep. lol

Well, that's different. I wish you would give all the information in your FIRST post. Instead of telling us 5, 10 or 20 posts later.

There is a difference between having the light on so you can eat vs. just watching tv. ;)

I have a lamp on in my sitting room when i'm watching tv etc..
It would be depressing if i had all the lights off and just the tv glare's!
In my bedroom though if i'm watching tv in bed, i have the lights off, but if i'm just about to drift asleep i alway's make sure i turn the tv off standby, i'm like that with everything.

Lights on, of course. Who wants to sit in or walk around in the dark. It's lights out when we put a movie on, but I can't even imagine sitting in the dark. Growing up, I had a friend, and I hated going over her house. I think they kept the thermostat at 60. Their house was always cold and dark, and so depressing.

When i first left school my first job was a cook in a care-home for the elderly, anywoo, there was this one old lady that lived there and she was constantly in the dark 24/7, she would never let anyone turn her lights on, and in the day she had her curtain's drawn, dark heavy curtain's they were. She was a sweet gal though!

Once I am in my bedroom to watch tv and hopefully to fall asleep, the lights are OUT. No need for more lights on. I can see fine in my bedroom with the tv light. In the living room the tv is usually the only light glaring in there since we have a large aquarium and that in itself has a light. Sometimes the light coming from the kitchen/dining room area is enough light for us. I cannot stand having lights on while watching television. Unless we have company over or I am working on the computer, there are no lights on.
It is not like we are in the dark and we cannot see anything else or fall over anything if we walk around. The tv is huge enough to emit enough light.

Yeah, I like to do that. Lights bother my eyes sometimes, so I like dark. Plus it makes the picture stand out more.

Looks awesome on an HDTV with no lights on.

But like so may posters said, it gives the room a depressing look-lol

We're not talking about bedrooms, right? No lights on in the bedroom, but lights are always on in my living room. I don't buy bright bulbs for my lamps either. I always buy the Soft White 50 watts bulb.

Usually on tv or movies, when someone is depressed they always show them sitting in a dark room with the light of the tv on

I have this thing where like...I'm afraid of having just the light of the tv on without any other light. That's what watching Poltergeist when you're 6 does to you.

It's really something how those sorts of things in our childhood, often affect us for life. When I was probably 8, I saw a scary movie, where the bad guy was hiding under the bed. To this day, I can't have my feet hanging off the sides of the bed, not even one inch, not one toe, lol. I don't sleep alone either. It's just one of those irrational fears that has stayed with me all these years, just as yours quite possible could, as well. Time will tell.

Yeah i didn't like tv's after that show. My grandma had an older color tv (from the 80s) and whenever you turned it off, it would make a little mark in the center of the screen. It was just a little pink/blue spectrum looking triangle and i was scared sh**less of it  I thought somebody would come out of the triangle

Actually, it's "Depression hurts. Chocolate can help." :D

I read somewhere that watching TV in a dark room can cause eyestrain because the light from the TV keeps changing and causes the pupils of the eyes to keep expanding and contracting. A light on, even a dim light, prevents that from happening.

I always have to have the lights off especially when the tv is on. Daytime or nighttime my lights are always off. When i cook I turn the lights on then ai turn them right back off when I'm finished. I cannot stand to have the lights on when I'm not using them. The tv light or the light from the desktop is enough light for me.

I know exactly what you mean. Frank's whole family is like that. Anytime I visit, I have to bring heavy slippers and bundle up in a sweater. I'm surrprised they're not all blind from lack of light too. It's like being with the Mole Family or something.

I need a cozy, warm glow going on! ;)

lol I don't doubt it will, TV light terrifies me now...actually I think I might have a little issue with the feet hanging off the bed too, but only when it's dark and if no one's home lol. It's no so bad as it used to be.

That's what I thought. That is why I answered with the response that I did abt not needing the lights on. I don't eat in my bedroom. If I read, then I have the lights on, if I am merely watching tv in there then I have the lights off because I am laying in bed ready to go to sleep.

I don't either. I used to have one and never used it. The bedroom is for three things only: sleeping, dressing and .......

When I watch t.v., I want to be close to the kitchen! ;)

How are you, Tony?

I'm doing okay, Janice. I am still my mom's caregiver and for some reason she usually sleeps a lot during the late morning and afternoon, then stays awake late... and I mean late, like 4:00 AM. So I stay up that late, too. I do like staying up late, but not that late!

I was putting some holiday things away today, and I read your Christmas card. It was the prettiest one I got all year.

Glad you liked the Christmas card. :)
