View Full Version : What Was The Last CD You Listened To?
Nighthawk76 01-08-2008, 03:55 PM This is a really easy thread to take part in. Every time you come here to the music board, just post the CDs you've listened to since you were last here. :)
The last three CDs I listened to were:
Help!- the Beatles
Memory Almost Full- Paul McCartney
This Is Where I Came In- the Bee Gees
catlover79 01-08-2008, 03:59 PM Wingspan - Paul McCartney & Wings
2 CDs made up of various Beatles songs my cousin burned for me.

I have Wingspan too! Maybe I'll listen to it this afternoon. Being home sick, I sure have enough time. :(
Mikado 01-08-2008, 04:04 PM almost my entire collection of Shonen Knife CDs
Nighthawk76 01-08-2008, 06:49 PM Wingspan: Hits and History- Paul McCartney and Wings
Dean Winchester 01-08-2008, 06:55 PM from start to finish? Mary J. Blige's Growing Pains, but I was listening to some of "The Essential ELO" yesterday

I have The Essential ELO. I'm not a really big fan of their's, but I do like a few songs. I especially like "Strange Magic". I love that song. :)

yea, I'm not the biggest fan but that cd does have every thing you need, especially since "All Over The World" does not have Do Ya or Can't Get It Out Of My Head, and those are two of their biggest songs. Granted, no Xanadu tracks on that cd, but I already have that soundtrack so it's fine there's no overlapping

JoPol_wannabe 01-09-2008, 03:13 AM The Last Cd I listened to was:
Ann Wilson’s CD Hope and Glory. I love every song on there but my favorite song is War of Man a duet with Alison Krauss. If you’re an Ann Wilson fan I recommend you adding this CD to your collection
catlover79 01-09-2008, 01:09 PM The John Lennon Collection
Nighthawk76 01-11-2008, 01:15 AM Off the Ground- Paul McCartney
Summer Of Love Gold - Various Artists
tv star collector 01-11-2008, 07:03 PM The last one that I listened to was a re-release of Don Rickles' 1968 vinyl LP
album Hello Dummy!, recorded live at the Hotel Sahara in Las Vegas,
Nevada. Pretty funny stuff. It was released by Warner Bros.

"The people at Warner Bros. need treatment and care, because they must be
really lonely, or running out of performers."

catlover79 01-11-2008, 07:24 PM Wingspan - I'm listening to it again!!
Nighthawk76 01-11-2008, 11:37 PM City of Angels-original motion picture soundtrack
With songs by Eric Clapton, Peter Gabriel and the Goo Goo Dolls, this is one of my favorite soundtracks ever. When it came out a decade a ago I played it over and over again. I remember driving to school and listening to "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls on repeat play. 10 years later and I still have not seen the movie.
dlemond 01-12-2008, 12:34 AM Before & After - Tim Finn
Nighthawk76 01-12-2008, 02:46 AM Wingspan - I'm listening to it again!!
I've been listening to a lot of solo Paul of late too. Last night I listened to his 1993 album, Off The Ground. Even though this album is not great in the same was that Ram, Band On The Run, Flaming Pie and Memory Almost Full are great, it will always hold a special place in my heart because it was released in early 1993 when I was first getting into the Beatles, and it was the first solo album I bought from one of the Fab Four. There are a couple of really good songs on it like the title track, "Biker Like An Icon", "Get Out Of My Way" and "C'mon People".

You're the first person I know who has actually seen the movie. The soundtrack was HUGE, but most of the people who bought it never saw the movie...like me.

You should buy the soundtrack, Monika. It is really, really good. When I think back to 1998, one of the things that always comes to mind is listening to that soundtrack. It was 1998 for me musically...that and Clapton's Reptile album.

1998 was the year I graduated from high school - I remember Savage Garden, LeAnn Rimes and Hanson were all really huge. Here I am now with my 10 year reunion coming up!!

I may as well spoil it, since it's a decade old and you'll regret watching the movie once you see the ending. Nicolas Cage becomes human and Meg Ryan and him finally get to be together, and then Meg is out riding her bike and a truck comes out from the distance and she runs into it and dies.
What a waste of an ending

I figured there was no point in going. I was a ghost in high school. I wasn't picked on but I wasn't popular either. I had my group of friends and no one else really knew who I was. I just didn't see the point in going just to have people look at me and say, "Who's that?".

Nicholas Cage was an angel who was sent to watch over Meg Ryan, they end up meeting and fall in love, but can't be together because he's an angel, so he gives up his wings to be with her
I know, 1998 feels so recent, I can remember so many details about that year that you're supposed to have forgotten a decade later. Where has the time gone?
Dean Winchester 01-12-2008, 03:54 AM I have no plans to revisit high school. One of the only people who even spoke to me in high school found me on Myspace a few months ago and we talk back and forth. He was one of maybe three people I would even cross the street to say hi to that I went there with. I didn't like my high school very much

Every time I hear "Take a Chance on Me" I think of the waterpark in CA when I visited my friend Brenda. I went down the Vertigo Body Bowl slide into an 8-foot section of the pool. There is a lifeguard there at all times to help you out, but I couldn't see him (or anything else) because you have to take your glasses off before you go on the slide. I went under a couple of times before he finally fished me out. It was pretty scary. That was the song playing on the loudspeaker when I got out of the pool!!!

Dean Winchester 01-13-2008, 01:17 AM the one thing I dislike about ABBA Gold is that it doesn't contain "The Day Before You Came", which was the very last song they recorded in 1982 (Under Attack was the final single, but it was recorded earlier)

I always thought Wingspan was disappointing because Paul took his hatred of MJ and didn't put Say Say Say on it, I think that and Ebony And Ivory (which I hate but was a huge #1 smash) are such glaring omissions. I also wished the collection would've gone past 1984, there were songs like Press, Hope Of Deliverance and stuff off Flowers In The Dirt and Flaming Pie that deserved not to be bypassed

I think Wingspan was meant as a collection of his work with Wings. If you look at the collection of songs on the two discs, they are mostly from the Wings era.

It also included his post-Beatles/pre-Wings songs. For example, "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" was billed as Paul & Linda McCartney.

True, but 75% of the songs were from the Wings era.
Dean Winchester 01-28-2008, 12:04 AM ^ true, but there was a lot of 1980-1984 post-Wings recordings as well, just no "Say Say Say" or "Ebony And Ivory"

Kylie Minogue - X
Jack Johnson - Sleep Through the Static
Sort of disappointed by the first two.
Dean Winchester 02-21-2008, 07:30 PM ^ X is okay but I admit I haven't really played it much since the first two weeks I had it. It's flopping pretty badly in Europe as well, and that's where Kylie is generally a superstar. Most of the b-sides that have leaked from the singles are better than the bulk of the actual album.

Didn't it reach platinum? That's pretty good considering how bad sales are in general.
What's so disappointing about X is that the standout tracks ("Like a Drug," "2 Hearts," "In My Arms") borrow way too much from Nelly Furtado, Madonna (COADF) and especially Gwen's latest CD.

the album was promoted to death there, she had several TV specials and the sort, according to my friends in England, they were expecting the album to hit #1, and yet it only came in #4. "Wow" is her lowest charting single in a decade there as well. It was such a hotly anticipated comeback and it didn't live up to expectations.
I always thought "2 Hearts" sounded much more like a Goldfrapp ripoff than the artists you listed. The video looked Goldfrappy too
SBTB Geek 02-25-2008, 06:02 PM Yes!!! I knew it sounded familiar... Goldfrapp... that's it!
Goldfrapp mixed with a little LCD Soundsystem and Gwen.

From that perspective, the album is definitely under performing. That's makes me wonder if Kylie and her camp are still planning to tour worldwide.
I'm not surprised at "Wow" flopping. That's one of the weaker tracks.
Dean Winchester 02-27-2008, 04:10 PM I spoke too soon about "Wow" flopping, out of nowhere it came into the top 5. I guess it was the result of a download day or something
