I'm a big fan of Thomas Kinkade's work too. I buy calendars, Christmas cards, phone address books, and other items with his work. Hallmark Stores carry a lot of his products. As you probably know, he's known as the, "Painter of Light". I read a profile of Kinkade in Reader's Digest a few years ago. There was no father in his life. I forget if it was through divorce or death. His mother had to work a lot. Growing up, he would come home to an empty, dark house. That's the reason why he paints light in all of the windows of his paintings. :)

Oh wow, I actually didn't know that that's really interesting. I love light, too. His pictures are always so cozy.

I have the Peter naked with a gift in front of his privates as an ornament. :lol: I have a few FG ornaments for my tree. I have "fun" ornaments that adorn our tree. We haven't done our tree yet, but when we do, I will post a pic.

Director George Seaton (who also wrote the screenplay, for which he won an
Academy Award) was a writer for the Marx Brothers. Seaton based his screenplay on a story by Valentine Davies, who first told him of his idea while
the two were vacationing with their wives in Nevada.

Edmund Gwenn had been acting for decades when he finally
earned fame and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Kris Kringle. He was born in Wales in 1875 and also appeared
in the 1943 film "Lassie Come Home," among many other pictures.

Natalie Wood was the daughter of Russian immigrants and made her screen
debut when she was five, in "Happy Land" (1943). Unlike many child stars, her

Thelma Ritter's brief role as the mother who was amazed that Macy's would
send its customers to a competitor was her very first film role.

Maureen O'Hara's flaming red hair and bright green eyes earned the actress

Jerome Cowan, who plays prosecutor Thomas Mara, is perhaps best known
for his performance as Miles Archer in "The Maltese Falcon" (1941).

Besides his roles on I LOVE LUCY and MY THREE SONS, William Frawley (who
plays Charlie, the judge's political advisor) appeared in roughly 150 movies.

A good portion of "Miracle on 34th Street" was filmed on location in New York.
At first, the names Macy's and Gimbel's were going to be changed to Tracy's
and Trimbell's, but both stores when approached by the director agreed that
Seaton could use their names even though the stores were presented in a less than favorable light.

My sister's son looks just like our father. He's 30. When I look at pictures of my Dad at that age, they look almost like twins. It's really something when that happens.

Downtown Cleveland's decorated every Christmas. This one is one I took one Lakeside near East 9th in December of 1991.

There are ballons in Cleveland's Tower City Center every year:

There's also an ice skating rink on Public Square.

The Higbee's Department Store, later Dillard's, had window decorations at its store on Cleveland's Public Square. I took this one in November of 1994.

The Lake Metroparks has Christmas stuff at its Penitentary Glen location.

I know! I'd give anything to see it! I've never seen the whole movie from begining to end.

I read somewhere once, that since it stopped being shown around the same time that "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" stopped being shown all over the place during the Christmas season, and now it's only shown on NBC, that probably has something to do with it.


Come to think of it, though, I just remembered-ION showed "IT HAPPENED ONE CHRISTMAS" last year. I wonder if they're planning to show it again.

OBERLIN, Kan. (AP) -- A postcard featuring a color drawing of Santa Claus and a young girl was mailed in 1914, but its journey was slower than Christmas. It just arrived in northwest Kansas.

The Christmas card was dated Dec. 23, 1914, and mailed to Ethel Martin of
Oberlin, apparently from her cousins in Alma, Neb.

It's a mystery where it spent most of the last century. Oberlin Postmaster
Steve Schultz said, "It's surprising that it never got thrown away," he said.
"How someone found it, I don't know."

Ethel Martin is deceased, but Schultz said the post office wanted to get the
card to a relative.

That's how the 93-year-old relic ended up with Bernice Martin, Ethel's sister-in-law. She said she believed the card had been found somewhere in Illinois.

^Thanks, but its not my house, besides I could never get hubby to put up that many lights. (lol!) Our town has a park beside the river that they decorate up for Christmas and you can walk through it to see all the lights. Thats where the picture was taken.
