View Full Version : Jackson Five to tour in 2008 (yes kids, Tito will be with them)
Dean Winchester 11-26-2007, 06:18 PM Jackson 5 talk tour
(Monday November 26, 2007 06:26 PM)
The Jackson 5 will tour in 2008 with Michael Jackson, according to his brother Jermaine.
Rumours about a possible reunion of the pop legends has been rife for some time, culminating in claims from promoter Leonard Rowe recently that live dates were being planned.
Jermaine Jackson has now given the clearest indication yet that the comeback is on and will take place next year, featuring their most famous member.
"Michael will be involved. We want to tour. We want to touch the lives of everybody who's bought our records and supported us.
"It will probably start here first, but it will be sometime in 2008. That's our plan", he told the BBC in a new interview.
Discussing Michael's acquittal on child sex offences in 2005, Jermaine said the five-piece are now "stronger than ever" and "owe" the fans who have supported them through thick and thin.
The last album from the Jackson 5 - Michael, Jermaine, Marlon, Tito and Jackie - was "2300 Jackson Street" in 1989.

Ireneparalegal 11-26-2007, 06:19 PM I have always loved the Jacksons (Jackson 5)...I grew up with their music.
Dean Winchester 11-26-2007, 06:25 PM I think this tour would be the smartest thing Wacko has done in at least 15 years. I think going back to the beginning (as well as throwing in some of the solo stuff as well) will remind people why they loved him in the first place. Before the skin bleaching, before the plastic surgery, before the pedophilia accusations, etc... it'd be a total back to the beginning for him and I think it's very smart. Plus next year is marking his 50th bday and 40 years since he was signed to Motown. Back to basics tours always revitalize careers, just look at Prince and Bruce Springsteen in recent years.
catlover79 11-26-2007, 07:08 PM This should be interesting, and I agree with Dean: this is probably the smartest decision Michael's made in years!
Dr. Jazz 11-27-2007, 01:43 AM Tito can be on the tour as long as he doesn't wear that baseball uniform he wore on the "Victory" tour lol Now that was a scary-ass sight lol

And maybe Michael can actually blend in with his brothers (skin color wise, no... ) by wearing similar outfits like they use to when they were a group.

Irene, July 28th 1984 - I'm at the Garden waiting for the Jacksons to come out on stage and when Tito walked out there about to pop out of that baseball uniform, I LOST IT!! lol It was so tight Tito couldn't move - they were doing "Can You Feel It" and Tito wasn't feeling anything but that uniform ridin' up his ass lol

OMG :brent I can imagine what that must have looked like. sorry you had to endure that!!!!!
You know, the guy doesn't seem to dress very well at all. He walked into the music store I worked at part-time back in 1995. It was around 9 p.m. and it was just me and the manager working. We see this guy walk in with an asian looking gal and it wasn't until he asked for my assistance I realized who it was. I was shocked, not that it was Tito Jackson, but how he was dressed! All black clothes, that were tight and his hair was a fright. He had on these tight-ass black jeans with these funky looking shoes and a tight black buttoned shirt with a very awful looking black jacket. And the questions he was bugging me with...Oy vey. What a nut!

they can change their name to "Four Black Brothers Named Jackson And Their White Sister"
catlover79 11-27-2007, 02:01 AM ^ What were his questions, Irene?? (Now THIS should be good!!)
catlover79 11-27-2007, 02:01 AM they can change their name to "Four Black Brothers Named Jackson And Their White Sister"
Or they can change it to: "Our Brother Is a White Woman".

1995 was also the year that Tito's three sons had their album out - remember they were called 3T and had a couple of pretty good slow jams off their album. I remember catching their videos on BET's "Midnight Love" (wish that was still on) I wonder what the hell happened to them after 1995? I hope they didn't turn into a fat slob like big daddy Tito lol
Ireneparalegal 11-27-2007, 02:06 AM Oh Monika, you crack me up...:brent
He was asking me questions abt a couple of CD's but he was asking me who were the distributors of this particular CD...I was like, "WTF?" And on another CD he asked how many of this particular CD had been sold so far in our store. THE ONE BY 3T...
He asked how all these bizarre questions. What made it seem more bizarre to me is that the guy is in the music business, can't he find out that info himself? He just seemed weird. He has a home in our city by the beach but that was the first time I had seen him...I hope it is the last time too!

There's a 3T song on the soundtrack of "The Jacksons: An American Dream" miniseries, and it's pretty good. My favorite track was "Stay With Love", a beautiful duet between Jermaine and Syreeta Wright. Here's their song playing to scenes from the movie:

James 11-27-2007, 04:06 AM When I first saw this thread I thought it was Jackson Browne. You know, the solo artist from the 1970s (and early 1980s) with hits like "Running On Empty" and "Doctor My Eyes"! But then I saw the note about Tito at the end and I was like, "What did a guy named Tito have to do with Jackson Browne?" LOL!
88survivor 11-27-2007, 09:03 AM Tito is the rhythmnless of the Jackson clan. Forget talentless LaToya...Tito couldn't dance to save his life. At least, Adrian Zmed had more soul than Tito.
Dean Winchester 11-27-2007, 04:45 PM ^ people are way too harsh on poor La Toya. The woman is fun as hell and perhaps more in touch with the fans she does have than Michael or Janet at this point. Michael would murder to revisit the fame he had circa 1984 and Janet wants to sacrifice all the fans she had in the 80's and 90's so she can appeal to a younger urban market whose earliest recollection of her is "All For You". Toy knows her fans want uptempo dancy type r&b/pop... the kind of music Jermaine Dupri won't let Janet make because he thinks it's a sign of weakness to have white fans

Tito, poor Tito, goes to show not everyone in a musical family can be talented. Seriously, he is the BLACK SHEEP of the family.

Ireneparalegal 11-28-2007, 05:17 PM Irene, your Tito story seriously had me !!
It is funny reading it. I was just perplexed when that was happening. Weirdo.  I guess HE IS Michael Jackson's brother.
88survivor 11-28-2007, 08:00 PM He might be the talented, but he is certainly has no soul in his whole body. He dances like he always has a stick up his ass.

His clothes are too damn tight, that is the problem.
88survivor 11-28-2007, 10:31 PM Poor, poor Tito. In the 80s, he was a joke with the tight clothes he worn. He was probably thinking one day, "Scott Baio wears tight clothes. So does Kirk Cameron. So does Michael J. Fox. So does the whole 80s teen gang, so why can't I?" Results: disasterous. Just remember in the 80s, how many people did look great in the tight clothes: Only for the fit people who didn't have unnecessary bulges of fat popping everywhere. Sad, but true. That was the era. But you did see a lot of out of shaped people in the 80s actually wearing tight pants and tight clothing that made them look like a blimp when in fact it was clothing they worn.

But when I seen Tito in person, this was in 1995. NOT 1985.
88survivor 11-29-2007, 10:26 AM But Tito was always a huge joke. Even then, you know. I especially like the other The Jacksons' Victory story, though. They had me. I could have imagined what torture some people went through.

About Jermaine Dupri, he is a f**cking idiot and a terrible promoter for Janet Jackson's later years. I am sorry, but I just can't stand that guy at all. He forgets to remind himself that he is an hypocrite for thinking crap like that because a white audience is a sign of weakness to be interested in Janet's work. Jermaine forgets to remind himself that he is in the same league as any other producer like Timberland and Dr. Dre. Bull****! Sorry. So you think they are better than anybody just confirms that Dupri is a hypocrite himself. I don't buy that, Dupri. Your musical production is just like any other rap production today: boring and uninteresting. So throw away that race card issue out the window because that support is so weak. I am sorry, just had let a little steam out. Dumb creep. He is worse than Janet's Hubby 1 & 2 combine. **tick**

what I find funny about Dupri is how much he forgets that Usher and Mariah Carey (his two biggest productions) marketed themselves and went onto Oprah (granted, a black woman, but she's generally ridiculed by the hip hop community for appealing largely to white people), Ellen, Leno, Letterman, SNL and tons of other "white" media to promote their albums. In Mariah's case, it was "We Belong Together", a song that was a massive hit in the AC field that really propelled Emancipation Of Mimi to 6 million. Dupri is a freaking idiot if he doesn't think that white people were among the 9 million who bought Usher's "Confessions". I thought it was hilarious he didn't want white people buying 20 Y.O. when he pushed Mariah and Usher to court "white media" to get their cd's the widest audiences imaginable.
I just read that JD doesn't want Janet participating at all in the Jacksons reunion because of what people think of Michael today. Pedophile freak or not, Michael was a superstar before Jermaine was even born, Off The Wall and Thriller alone **** all over JD's entire catalog of work (I'll even argue that Bad and Dangerous do as well). Sad thing is, Janet might be listening to him, when Jermaine was probably some acne faced pre-teen when Janet was all over the place with "Control". Jermaine needs to get his ego in check, Janet was a star long before he came onto the scene and she'll still be highly regarded, if only for her 80's and 90's work, long after Jermaine goes the way of Jellybean Benitez. Thankfully Jermaine has ZERO imput on Janet's soon-to-be-released new cd, so there is hope. 20 Y.O. wasn't such a bad album, but JD was trying to make Janet sound like Mimi and they are two totally different artists.
Cactus Jack 12-03-2007, 05:30 PM Instead of the Jackson 5, the band should renamed themeselves "Our Brother is White. We Are Black. Once you're White, You Can Never Go Back."
:rotflmao:
isiahthomas 12-03-2007, 06:24 PM LOL@Ireneparalegal dissing Tito Jackson's clothes when you saw him in the record store you worked in hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. All of The Jacksons back in the day wore gay clothes. Just look at their album covers and album pictures of Destiny, Victory, The Jacksons(this album has the songs Enjoy Yourself and Show You The Way To Go). That's good news that they're reuniting for a tour. I would like to hear them do a reunion album. To the person who said the last time they did a album together was 2300 Jackson Street, you're wrong. Michael was only on 2300 Jackson Street song and Marlon wasn't on that album. Victory was the last album Michael did with his brothers.
88survivor 12-03-2007, 08:31 PM Sorry about that, Winchester. I just found it damn hillarious coming it from Dupri. Dupri thinks he is God with his words. What a hypocrite. Janet was so better off with Terry Lewis/Jimmy Jam than that wannabe gangster producer Jermaine Dupri. Dupri needs to get his facts right about appealing to audience members. C'mon, Dupri. They were a lot of black producers like Chic, Quincy Jones, T. Lite, and the whole producing bunch that also were involved with both races as well. So, in return, Dupri, you made that view so one-sided. In return, he becomes the moron. He needs to get his facts straight, you know. I mean, shoot......that guy thinks he is high and mighty. The sad thing Janet might be listening to him still...
88survivor 12-03-2007, 08:50 PM Destiny and Triumph were the greatest albums they ever did, but that's because Michael Jackson took control of the writing process.
Ireneparalegal 12-03-2007, 09:01 PM Is it just me or does Dupri remind anyone else of an ugly Donald Duck? I have no idea why I think of that when I see his pic. I think that weird look of his mouth is what it is.
Dean Winchester 12-03-2007, 09:03 PM I agree. Victory was pretty dismal since for the most part, that album was when MJ's ego started getting out of control (but he had Quincy to keep him in line during Bad and Teddy Riley on Dangerous) and the album was more of a collection of random Jackson family tracks than a real Jacksons album like Triumph or Destiny were. Torture is the only great song off that album
88survivor 12-03-2007, 10:55 PM But the Torture video did not feature Michael or Jermaine Jackson. I remember a lot of people felt cheated watching that video. Sorry I had to let a little steam, Winchester. Sorry about that. It is just that Dupri fella rubs me the wrong way as to how perceives the music world.
About Jermaine Dupri, I don't get what Janet sees in him. But then again, her choice of boyfriends were always average at best.

why weren't they in the video? I could understand if they were all in different places and it'd been hard to get Michael and Jermaine, but that was when they were doing Victory tour, so it's not like Michael couldn't have just taken a day or two off and film the video, and considering it was 1984, Michael's presence in the video would've gotten it played to death
Ireneparalegal 12-03-2007, 11:48 PM About Jermaine Dupri, I don't get what Janet sees in him. But then again, her choice of boyfriends were always average at best.
It doesn't seem Janet had many boyfriends. She was with that ex-husband of hers for so long, I can't recall anyone else she was with. Except for whatshisname from DeBarge.
Funny looking couple:

catlover79 12-04-2007, 12:04 AM Seriously, why did Janet stop working with Jam/Lewis? I think THEY are responsible for much of the fame she enjoys today. Their production and writing made her one of the most popular stars of the mid-80s on.

I haven't a clue. Those two guys are responsible for many, many, many artists having hit it big. There was a thread abt two years ago and those two were mentioned. I posted all the artists they worked with and all the hits they elicited with their hard work...THAT LIST WAS LOOOOOONG!!!!
Dean Winchester 12-04-2007, 12:19 AM I remember wondering what would've happened if Janet had stuck with Todd Bridges and he brought her down like Bobby did Whitney. Couldn't you see an incoherent Janet on an award show dedicating her award to "the king of comedy", Todd? LOL
88survivor 12-04-2007, 12:22 AM Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis made Janet Jackson a star overnight. They are hugely responsible for even making some 70s R&B disco artists(Cheryl Lynn, etc.) also have hits in the 80s as well. Janet shouldn't have never worked with Dupri at all.

you would think Janet would've looked at Madonna, Whitney and other major female stars to know never to mix your love life with your professional career. 20 Y.O. was the musical equivilent of Shanghai Surprise
88survivor 12-04-2007, 04:53 PM Amen, Winchester. You think Janet would have learned a little something from them a bit because it did happened to those stars you mentioned.

88survivor 12-04-2007, 05:50 PM Yep, I remember that mess, too.
Dean Winchester 12-04-2007, 06:12 PM Not to mention Mariah Carey. Remember that whole mess with Tommy Mottola??
well, I think with him that's different since Tommy has always been behind the scenes. Mariah pretty much owes her career to Tommy discovering her, so I think that's a bit different, much like Cher with Sonny or Tina Turner with Ike (even tho Ike was an abusive piece of ****, Tina would never be who she is today without their time together IMO).
88survivor 12-04-2007, 06:48 PM At least, Tina Turner had the balls to divorce him, though.
88survivor 12-04-2007, 06:53 PM By the way, has anybody read about Joe Jackson planning a museum based on the Jackson legacy? This guy's a total nutbag. He forgets about his childhood history himself. Everyone knows that Joe Jackson came from a lonely childhood. Planning a Jackson museum? Please!

Dean Winchester 12-04-2007, 08:07 PM At least, Tina Turner had the balls to divorce him, though.
true. But I meant there is a difference between women like Cher, Tina and Mariah who rose to fame with their husbands at the time, and people like Janet, Madonna and Whitney who became stars on their own, and then collaborated with their boyfriend/spouse at the time and it was disasterous. Cher became famous though Sonny And Cher and Tina became famous through Ike And Tina Turner..... they just had what it takes to carry on long after they left their men
isiahthomas 12-04-2007, 08:19 PM I wondered why Michael and Jermaine weren't in Torture video. That video was wack anyway. Torture isn't the only good song on Victory album. The other songs i like on the album are Wait, One More Chance, State Of Shock, We Can Change The World, The Hurt, Body. Body was the other video i saw from the Victory album. Marlon did a good job singing lead on Body. LOL@Janet and Jermaine Dupri being a couple hahahahahahahahahaha. I don't know what Janet sees in him because he is ugly. She's always been terrible at picking good men.
88survivor 12-04-2007, 08:42 PM Rumor has it that the brothers had a dispute between Michael and Jermaine, plus they were highly upset that those two brothers walked out. Others figure it was Michael's highly religious belief that he feared overexposure and Jermaine was already signed to Arista records, which some indicated affected his schedule, plus his contract barriers.
isiahthomas 12-04-2007, 09:20 PM I wouldn't be surprised if Michael asked for a lot of money to be in the Torture video. Jermaine's self titled album came out in 1984 also which is probably why he wasn't in the Torture video. Jermaine had several hits from his album in 1984 which were Dynamite, Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming with his brother Michael, Do What You Do. I know he had videos for Dynamite and Do What You Do. I like that Jermaine album. I got it on cd.
88survivor 12-04-2007, 10:05 PM Yeah, but Michael can't do that anymore. Now, he is the one with the money problems.
Ireneparalegal 12-06-2007, 05:26 PM Yeah, but Michael can't do that anymore. Now, he is the one with the money problems.
I am confused. I constantly hear that he is broke, in the red, filed bankruptcy, etc. Neverland is in foreclosure, yet, he is buying a home in Las Vegas, buying this and that, I am confused. What is the real story?
isiahthomas 12-06-2007, 05:31 PM Neverland is in foreclosure and he owes $23 million for a bank loan he got. I think he's having money problems and i wouldn't be surprised if he was because he's terrible at spending money wisely and saving money. He's been living with a few friends recently because he doesn't have a place to live. He was looking at some homes in Las Vegas and Maryland and the realtors turned him down because i guess his financial situation is messed up. What a god damn shame.
catlover79 12-08-2007, 11:33 AM you would think Janet would've looked at Madonna, Whitney and other major female stars to know never to mix your love life with your professional career. 20 Y.O. was the musical equivilent of Shanghai Surprise

very rarely do good singers or musicians make that successful transition from pop music to starring or acting in films. unless you're cher for eg that is
catlover79 12-08-2007, 01:28 PM You thought Madge would have learn a lesson from Shanghai Surprise. But, no!! She did it again.

Ahhh, let's not forget, she won that Golden Globe for EVITA. A great performance and well-deserved award.
I think her acting roles in the independent movies have been far better than the big budget movies we know abt, aside from Evita of course.
catlover79 12-08-2007, 04:21 PM She wasn't bad in Desperately Seeking Susan, either. Wasn't "Into the Groove" used in that movie?

Yes it was. Basically though Madonna was really being herself.
I seen recently on cable, DANGEROUS GAME with Harvey Keitel. A rather interesting movie.
Let's not forget her turn in A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN. And a movie that many probably never heard of or seen called FOUR ROOMS. I believe that was an independent movie. I liked her in that. Not the cheesy acting many expect of her.
catlover79 12-08-2007, 04:33 PM I'd forgotten about A League of Their Own. She was good in that one, and it was an ensemble piece. Madonna for some reason seems to do better in ensemble pieces where the spotlight isn't all on her.
Getting back to the Jacksons, was The Wiz Michael's only acting role in a feature film? It's kind of creepy watching that movie now because he was still black at that time - and it looks like he still had his original nose!!
Ireneparalegal 12-08-2007, 04:41 PM I think there was some obscure movie made in the Phillipines that Michael supposedly was in, but I can't remember the name or if the movie ever really was finished.
I love M.J. from when I was growing up all the way to THRILLER. After that, he went crazy.
88survivor 12-08-2007, 07:16 PM That was his only big screen role...though if you include this one with Roberta Flack called Free To Be- You and Me...it was a singing role.

catlover79 09-14-2008, 03:50 PM Has anyone heard anything more about the J5 reuniting? I haven't in months.
isiahthomas 09-15-2008, 04:57 PM Catlover79 i see you mentioned The Jacksons An American Dream movie. I love that movie. Did ya'll know Terrence Howard is in it? He plays Jackie.

Really? I didn't know that. I DO know that Jason Weaver played teenage Michael. Jermaine Jackson, Jr. also played his dad as a teen. Thanks for that info.
isiahthomas 09-16-2008, 04:41 PM Jason Weaver played Michael when he was about 11 or 12 years old. I don't know the guy's name who played Michael when he became a adult. The guy who played Michael near the end of the movie died in real life of leukemia shortly after the movie was done. He did a good job playing Michael. That was sad he died so young. I like the beginning of the movie when they show a bunch of old footage of The Jacksons dancing and singing and they show a bunch of old pictures of them when they were young. I also like the old albums they showed at the beginning. I noticed that nobody played Janet in the movie. Monica Calhoun who played in The Best Man, The Players Club, Trois 2 movies played Rebbie. There was another girl who played Latoya who was Danny Glover's daughter in the Lethal Weapon movies but i don't know her name. Monica and Terrence Howard have been in 3 movies together. Isn't that something? Terrence was also in The Best Man and The Players Club movies. Lawrence Hilton Jacobs did a good job playing their father Joe. My favorite part in the movie is when The Jacksons reunite for their Victory tour at the end and i like the song they sing when they say we thank you, for the joy, for the joy, for the joy you have given us, we thank you.
isiahthomas 09-16-2008, 04:46 PM Ya'll Jacksons fans should check out a documentary on them called America's First Family Of Music. I didn't know they had a documentary until i saw it at Amazon.com. Marlon Jackson hosted it and he basically talks about how the group got started and they show old footage of them performing on American Bandstand and other old concert footage. They also show when the brothers reunited for Michael's 25th anniversary concert at Madison Square Garden in 2000. Marlon's daughter interviews The Jacksons near the end and Michael was the only one who didn't show up. Why am i not surprised? LOL. He's so strange. Did ya'll know The Jacksons won a songwriter's award at the BMI awards recently? I saw a picture of Jackie, Tito, Randy, Marlon, Janet at the awards ceremony in Jet magazine. Michael and Jermaine wasn't there.
catlover79 09-16-2008, 09:44 PM ^ Interesting info!! Thanks for passing it along. I've always loved the soundtrack from the American Dream miniseries - especially the sweet duet between Jermaine Jackson and Syreeta Wright, "Stay With Love".
