View Full Version : How old were you when you first began watching I Love Lucy? Ireneparalegal 11-25-2007, 05:39 PM I was 6 years old and I haven't stopped since. :D tdr 11-25-2007, 07:37 PM I was born a couple of years after ILL finished production and it was always on in daytime reruns at our house in my early years. So I get the idea that I must have picked up the dialogue and anxiously emerged into the outside world ready to see what Lucy and Ricky and Fred and Ethel looked like. Mikado 11-25-2007, 07:51 PM I can't remember when I wasnt watching it...nuff said Ireneparalegal 11-25-2007, 07:55 PM I can't remember when I wasnt watching it...nuff said Good answer. I guess just like tdr said, from the womb is when you first got a taste of ILL. *ClassicPinUp* 11-25-2007, 10:06 PM I was about 13 and it was on Valentine's day lol. I was up late on the phone with my friends, just chatting and flippin' through the TV stations when I saw 'some crazy woman playing in chocolate' I watched it and loved it. Here I am. End of story. :D Ireneparalegal 11-25-2007, 10:17 PM I was about 13 and it was on Valentine's day lol. So i guess from then? Ive watched it alot in my life, but appreciated it more now. :) Brieannas21 11-25-2007, 11:24 PM I believe I started watching when I was in the 5th grade. I remember that summer ILL use to come on late at night and I would stay up to watch ILL, White shadow and Good times. blackbeard 11-25-2007, 11:28 PM I first watched Lucy in 1954 AB 11-25-2007, 11:52 PM I started watching the reruns of it when I was in third grade,so I guess I was around 8. It was on in the afternoons when I got home from school and it always made me laugh. catlover79 11-26-2007, 12:16 AM I was 6 years old and I haven't stopped since. :D I was pretty young myself. One of our local stations aired the reruns and we discovered the series on video (this was before DVDs). Not only that, we discovered great movies like Long Long Trailer, Forever Darling, and Yours, Mine & Ours. Those were great times. :D Adamantium 11-26-2007, 12:22 AM I don't remember the exact first time. However, very early on, maybe 1989 or 1990, TBS had a marathon and I taped it. I believe it was called "Yule Love Lucy," which makes me think it was around Christmas time. Anyways, when it came to Nick at Nite, I watched it a little. In 1995, I decided to tape every episode. I came close, getting all but one. However, i watched those early episodes over and over and over again, until I grew sick of them. Now I own the whole series on DVD and I'm gradually getting back into the early episodes. tv star collector 11-26-2007, 09:30 AM I was in my mid-to-late twenties, and it was in the 1970s in syndication. (In the 1950s', we were only able to get one channel, the local NBC affiliate.) Then I started watching it again, on TV Land, in the 1990s. SPLAIN 11-26-2007, 11:24 AM I was aware it was ON when i was two or three but became a BIG FAN when i was five back in '55. And have been watching it regularly ever since. The best period was the mid sixties when even here in Canada i was seeing the show three times a day and also The Lucy show three times a week, and one of them even in French, LOL! So that was Lucy shows 18 times a week plus her on guest shots, talk shows and quia shows. not to mention all the write ups in magazines and newspapers, what a great time that was! Lodee 11-26-2007, 12:07 PM I don't remember watching it as a kid. I have some vague memories of watching The Lucy Show (like the stilts episode). I think I probably watched ILL fist as a teenager. I know when I started watching it as an adult there were a few episodes I had never seen, like The Handcuffs and the one where Lucy's mother-in-law visits. SPLAIN 11-26-2007, 02:22 PM Okay we get it now, you're much younger than us, LOL! I'm surprised you remember further back than Life with Lucy, LOL! Lodee 11-26-2007, 03:54 PM Yes, I remember once I missed part of a Life With Lucy because I had to have my diaper changed. SPLAIN 11-26-2007, 05:05 PM Geez, what a coinkeedink, i'm soon to have to get mine changed as i'm at the other end of that age thing, LOL! drewfussclass101 11-27-2007, 01:50 AM i guess i was maybe four or five....all i know is that i wasnt in school yet, and my mom would make us lunch every day at noon and we would eat our lunch and watch the show. Not that i really understood exactly what was going on then, but how i enjoy it now. geez, what good memories... Ireneparalegal 11-27-2007, 02:11 AM Geez, what a coinkeedink, i'm soon to have to get mine changed as i'm at the other end of that age thing, LOL!     catlover79 11-27-2007, 02:13 AM I can't remember when I wasnt watching it...nuff said I think almost EVERYONE can say that. SPLAIN 11-27-2007, 09:43 AM I remember also that The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour was always on in the summer months when we were off school and i just loved those. bluthree 11-28-2007, 02:22 PM I started watching I Love Lucy back in the 80's.I came walking into the living room once while my mom was watching I Love Lucy.I sat down and watched it with her and I been watching it ever since. SPLAIN 11-28-2007, 02:26 PM Oh my, you've been in that living room since the 80's? You just have to get out and do something, wait till they play the DRAFTED episode and go outside while it's playing, you won't miss much. LOL! Ireneparalegal 11-28-2007, 03:43 PM Oh my, you've been in that living room since the 80's? LOL!  If they show that Scotland episode too. ;) SPLAIN 11-28-2007, 03:47 PM  If they show that Scotland episode too. ;) That's funny because i was going to write that and then remembered how much better it looks in color and i watch it every single time i make a copy of that bonus disc for someone and it's growing on me, LOL! Drafted however could be in 3D and it wouldn't be any better, LOL! Drafted however could be in 3D and it wouldn't be any better, LOL! I really couldn't get into Scotland because it is more a musical episode than anything. Same thing with Little Ricky's play. I want to see Lucy get into trouble, scheming, etc. SPLAIN 11-29-2007, 09:45 AM Oh i agree totally, i almost never watch the shows with Little Ricky, the whole series was about HER comedic skills. But since i read that they did the Scotland ep to compete with things like Peter Pan which had been shown around that time, i now see why they did that horrible musical ep, but it looks and seems better all colored up, LOL! Kazza 11-29-2007, 09:58 AM I recall watching some 'LUCY' when I was little and there was this channel that showed HL..I recall the memory of how red her hair was in color! LOL Other than that, ILL had been with me through the hardest years of my life; while I was going through my divorce it helped a lot! That show was the only thing that kept me sane. Now DH sits with me and we enjoy the show together. SPLAIN 11-29-2007, 12:15 PM Now you see, what i remember reading is how many people DID NOT get divorced as they saw what they went through together and stayed together, LOL! They figured if he stayed married to her after what she put him through, then their own marriage wasn't that bad after all, LOL! Most circumstances in those marriages must've been closer to their situation but mine was completly different and irrelevant at this stage in my life. LOL:D gidgetgrape 11-29-2007, 01:32 PM I didn't see ILL until I was in my early 20s circa 2000. SPLAIN 11-29-2007, 02:06 PM I didn't see ILL until I was in my early 20s circa 2000. OH Nuts! 11-29-2007, 11:55 PM I don't know how I missed it! I saw The Lucy Show first. And now there's that great set out w Seasons 1-9. All 194. Yummy Yum Yum. Now I just need the time to watch it. (Work's been craaaa-zee) SPLAIN 11-30-2007, 09:48 AM Yeah, well now we're waiting for seasons 10 thru 15 of her next series, LOL! LunarSpecimen 09-12-2009, 05:27 AM I was roughly 5-6 years old when I started to watch I Love Lucy in the late 1980s, but at that time, I didn't put much of an interest in the show. Given my age, I was more into video games and cartoons than anything else. Eventually. somewhere in the early-mid 1990s, I just stopped watching I Love Lucy altogether, and began to play the Sony Playstation and watch cartoons on Cartoon Network. But I rediscovered I Love Lucy this past year on TV Land (which neither it or Hallmark shows airings of I Love Lucy anymore), and I quickly realized what I had missed. I now consider it one of the best shows I ever watched, and I have seen over a hundred television shows in my lifetime. It gives me great pleasure to know that there are other friendly fans of I Love Lucy on here besides me. =) hch 09-14-2009, 10:55 AM Man, I started loving Lucy ever since I was 6-7 years old watching it every morning in the summer time. When I got my own VCR and TV when I was 12 or 13, I used to tape it when I was at school (along with "Knots Landing" when it was on TNT). When it came on Nick at Nite, I watched it there as well. So Lucy has been a part of my personal viewing lineup for a majority of my life. And then about a year or so ago, I started to get the DVDs. Unfortunately, I only have the first 2 seasons, but I will get the rest of them when I get the time and the $$$. If that fails, I can just save up and get the BIG set. But to me, LUCY lives on! She can be put up there with Farrah, MJ, Elizabeth Montgomery as a timeless legend. WE will forever love you Lucy. chicosladyfair 09-20-2009, 01:53 PM My mother said I started watching ILL when I was about 4 yrs old....so I guess I started watching it 41 yrs ago. And I have been faithful to the residents of 623 E. 68th St ever since. Hughsgirl 09-21-2009, 12:23 PM I was either 3 or 4 yrs. old and I'm 37 now. I have even made sure my 5 yr. old niece is a fan. I had her saying Lucy's name at 3 and she can pronounce the word "Vitameatavegamin!" |
