Say your total is $150.00. She didn't know that you can split the 150 in half and put $75 on one Card and $75 on another card. She said never heard of that before in her life.

has anyone on this board made a payment this way? I just did it in Radio Shack

It would have been easier if she just came out and said-"I don't know how to do that?

Maybe she didn't know that she could have done it that way. You should have asked to speak with a manager or another cashier who might have helped.

When I was a cashier many moons ago, I had a customer who asked if he could put $50 on one card and the remainder on another card because he knew he was already maxing out the one card. I asked the manager and he told me "yes you can do that." That is how I found out. That was back in 1989.

Do u think she thought I was using someone else credit card by asking me-"Can I see your ID when I was trying to split up the total?-LOL

Ditto. At Wal-Mart, I have also had customers pay a portion in cash and the
rest by credit card.

It is normal for a cashier to ask for I.D. when anyone is using a credit card to pay. Not all of them do it, but some stores instruct their employees to check I.D. to cut down on credit card fraudulent purchases.

Exactly, about 90 percent of the time I'm asked for ID when I'm using my credit card.

I was trained to always ask for ID as a cashier. I'm not a cashier anymore, but whenever I use my debit card (I swore off credit cards for the most part) I always have my license ready to hand to whoever is waiting on me.

Before Wednesday, when I went i that record store I never had to show my ID. I think it was only because I was using mutiple cards to pay for the CD's.

A lot of cashiers could care less if your card is stolen or not. So it's a great thing that she actually asked because she's suppose to.

OH Nuts!

I never needed to do this but logically I don't see why this couldn't be an option--like, when one card is getting maxed and you need to pick up the remainder of the purchase cost on the other. Yes, it would have been nice for the cashier to have just said "I don't know" and find out. This way she could have learned something.

I'd say it's about 50/50 for me.

Let me just explain to everyone that this had nothing to do with one of my cards being almost maxed out because there is no set credit limit on my American Express Card. I just like to balance out my financial situation so I can have WIGGLE ROOM in my entertainment budget. So that's why I split the purchase in half
