CHAPTER 1
The blonde looked at her watch, it said 12:30 am. She hoped nobody was up, especially Mrs. Garrett. It would be hard to explain to her why she was so late again. She would just have to come up with another excuse, and she was beginning to run out of excuses. Nobody would understand. It was all her fault, wasn’t it? Besides he DID apologized every time.
She decided to come in through the store as usual. If anybody were up waiting for her, they were always in the living room. They would not know she had come in. The blonde unlocked the door leading into Edna’s Edibles and went inside. She silently closed and relocked the door. She opened up her compact and looked at her face once more, just to make sure that the bruises were covered up incase she ran into anybody. She could explain the swelling, that wouldn’t be exactly a lie she DID fall down.
She walked into the kitchen, thinking she was in the clear when it happened. Sitting at the cabinet with a drink was, “Natalie,” she said, “What are you doing up?” she asked plastering a fake smile on her face.
Natalie looked at the blonde and then her watch in surprise, “I was just about to ask you the same question Blair,” Natalie said with a sly grin on her face.
“Oh, well, ah, you know how it is when you’re out with the college crowd,” said Blair.
“That’s funny,” replied Natalie, “According to Jo, the group split up at 10. At which time Jo said you and Robert went off on your own.”
“Well maybe both Jo and yourself need to mind your own business,” snapped Blair.
Natalie looked shocked, she didn’t mean to make Blair upset, she was just kidding with her. It was at that moment that Natalie noticed that the right side of Blair’s face was swollen. “Blair,” she exclaimed, “your face, what happened?”
A look of horror crossed Blair’s face for about half a second, until Blair remembered she had just checked to make sure that the bruises were covered with make-up. Natalie must be talking about the swelling thought Blair. “Oh, that,” said Blair thinking fast. “You see”, started Blair, “ I fell down, and I …hit the side of my face on the ground,” said Blair.
“Uh huh,” said Natalie, not believing a word of it, but knowing that it was not wise to pursue it at this time because Blair was being so defensive about it.
“Well, I’m off to bed,” Blair announced. “Good night Natalie.”
“Night Blair,” Natalie replied.
She watched as Blair went up the stairs to their room. Something wasn’t right here, Natalie thought. The journalist in her was just itching to ask Blair more questions about the swelling and her night with Robert, but she knew better. Blair would talk when she was ready. Until then, Natalie thought, I’ll just have to do some investigating on my own. Natalie grinned and went up to bed.
CHAPTER 2
The next morning, Blair got up earlier then usual. She wanted to fix her face up before anyone woke up. Blair went into the bathroom and looked into the mirror. “Oh my Lord,” whispered Blair. The entire right side of her face was black, blue and very swollen. Oh boy, she thought, I have my work cut out for me. Blair pulled out her make-up kit and got to work.
2 Hours Later
“Come on Blair,” exclaimed the brunette. “Other people have to get ready for class ya know.”
“I’m almost through Jo,” Blair sighed. “Don’t get so uptight.”
“Uptight, me?” asked Jo. “Why would I be uptight? I mean, I got up early this morning to get into the bathroom before you, and you were already there. What did you do, sleep in there?”
“Of course not you silly twit,” said Blair opening the door, “ The bathroom is yours.”
Jo stared at Blair, she looked different somehow but she couldn’t place what it was. Blair got a worried look on her face. “What’s wrong?” asked Blair worried that Jo would see the bruises.
“I don’t know,” said Jo shrugging, “I guess I figured that with all the time you spent in the bathroom this morning, that you would look really different. You know, you really shouldn’t have to spend all that time getting ready for ANY man. Oh well, what do I know,” Jo said as she walked past Blair into the bathroom.
Whew, that was close, thought Blair. Jo is the last person I would want to explain this to. She just would NOT understand thought Blair. Blair walked down the stairs and saw Mrs. Garrett and Tootie setting the table for breakfast.
“Good morning Mrs. G, morning Tootie,” said Blair hiding the right side of her face.
“Good morning Blair,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“Morning Blair, did you have a good time last night with Robert?” asked Tootie with a sly grin on her face.
Blair rolled her eyes, how many times was she going to have to answer questions about HIM Blair thought. Tootie was always after some gossip; well this is one thing that Tootie was NOT going to find out about Blair decided. “I had a wonderful time last night,” said Blair putting a fake smile on her face. She turned to Mrs. Garrett. “I’m not hungry this morning Mrs. G.,” said Blair. “I’m going to head on off to campus and I’ll be back early tonight.”
“Well, if you’re sure Blair,” said Mrs. Garrett.
Blair turned too her right and headed towards the store.
“Why are you going that way Blair?” asked Tootie. “The cars are out front.”
“Well, you see,” Blair started, “I parked my car out back when I came in last night so that I would not wake anybody up”
Tootie shrugged, “Okay.”
Blair sighed, at least they believed that, thought Blair, if I had to go out the front door, they would have seen the swelling for sure. Blair walked out the door and headed for her car. She had some things to think over, and someone to talk to.
CHAPTER 3
Natalie came down the stairs and looked around. “Has anybody seen Blair this morning?” she asked.
Tootie looked up at Natalie. “Hey Nat, yea I’ve seen Blair. She’s already left this morning.”
Natalie looked at her watch. It wasn’t even 7:30 yet. “She’s leaving kinda early this morning isn’t she?”
“What’s with 20 questions about Blair this morning Nat?” asked Tootie.
“Huh? Oh, nothing, I just wanted to talk to her this morning," replied Natalie.
"Oh, well she left about 10 minutes ago. She said she wasn’t hungry and that she'd be back early tonight," said Tootie.
"Oh, well I guess I'll talk to her then. Come on Tootie, let’s get to school," said Natalie walking toward the front door.
Tootie looked at her watch, "But Nat, it's barely 7:30. We've got plenty of time."
"I know," said Natalie, "I need to do some research at the library before class though."
"I didn't think you had any homework to do," said Tootie.
"I don't, it's for…something else," replied Natalie, "Come on Tootie, I really need to do this."
"Fine, fine, I'm coming," said Tootie, "Bye Mrs. Garrett. Nat and I are leaving now"
"Okay girls, have a good day at school," Mrs. Garrett called from the kitchen.
Natalie and Tootie walked out the door and headed off to Eastland. When they arrived at school, Natalie walked over to the library to start her research into Robert Michael Masterson III.
The first thing that Natalie did was to look up in the newspaper index to see if his name was listed. She found 3 articles that listed his name. Natalie copied down the information about which papers he was listed in. She then went and found the articles and made copies of them so that she could read them later. Natalie looked at her watch, she had to leave now if she didn't want to be late for class. Natalie grabbed the copies and raced out of the library to class.
After class, Tootie walked up to Natalie, “I thought you were going to be late there for a minute.”
“Hey, I made it didn’t I. That’s all that counts,” said Natalie grinning.
“Come on Nat, let’s grab some lunch,” said Tootie.
“You go on without me. I’m going to the newspaper office to do some research,” said Natalie.
Tootie looked at Natalie, “Ok, you want me to save you something?” asked Tootie.
“No that’s ok, I’ll have something sent up there,” said Natalie waving to Tootie, “See you later.”
Natalie took on off to the newspaper office so that she could read in peace. Natalie opened the door and looked in. Good, she thought, nobody is here yet. Natalie walked over to her desk and sat down to read the articles.
The first article was written in 1981. The article was in the society pages and it was about Robert’s family. Natalie decided to look into his background a bit more. Natalie picked up the phone and made a few phone calls to see about getting a copy of his birth certificate. A few minutes later, a man came to the phone, “Hey Nat."
“Hey Peter, how are you?” asked Natalie.
“Pretty good, what can I do for you?” asked Peter.
“I need some help. I’m trying to get some background information on a guy, and I can’t seem to be getting anywhere quickly. I was wondering if you could look up a birth certificate for me and maybe a drivers license as well,” said Natalie.
“Hey, I owe you with all the help you have given me over the years. Who is this guy?” asked Peter.
“His name is Robert Michael Masterson III. According to the society page, he was born in New York City in 1965. His parents are Barbara and Robert Michael Masterson II. I’d appreciate anything you can find out about him on your end. I’m still trying to dig some stuff up here,” said Natalie.
“No problem Natalie, I’ll do what I can and get back to you as soon as possible,” replied Peter.
“Okay, thanks. Give me a call at the newspaper office. I’ll be here until 4. I really appreciate this Peter,” said Natalie.
“It’s my pleasure. I’ll call you back soon. Bye Nat.”
“Bye Peter.”
Natalie hung up the phone and smiled. Well that’s one less thing to worry about thought Natalie pulling out the next article. This article was a newer article. It was written in 1982. Natalie started reading it and sucked in her breathe. “I remember this,” said Natalie out loud.
“Remember what?” asked a voice.
Natalie looked up startled. Standing there was Nancy.
“Nancy,” said Natalie standing up and walking up to her, “What brings you back to Eastland?”
“Oh not much,” Nancy replied, “ I was in the neighborhood and I thought I’d stop by.”
“Well I’m glad you did. Can I ask you a couple of question?” asked Natalie.
“Uh-oh, you have your reporters hat on, this must be serious,” said Nancy, “Fire away with your questions.”
“Okay, first, about 2 years ago you and Roger had a breakup right?” asked Natalie.
“I guess, I don’t really remember the dates,” replied Nancy.
“Didn’t you date another guy for a bit that was later arrested?” Natalie continued.
Nancy looked right at Natalie, “Why do you want to know that?”
“What was his name Nancy? This is important,” pleaded Natalie.
Nancy sighed, “His name was Rob, Robert Michael Masterson III. Now why do you need to know?” asked Nancy.
“I think he might be doing something to somebody, but I’m not sure. Nancy, how did you meet him?” asked Natalie.
“Well, he was dating Emily, and then they just broke up. Emily told me it was because her parents found out she was dating an older guy. I had just broke up with Roger and Rob showed up at the pizza place. He asked me out and we dated for a bit,” said Nancy.
“Why did y’all break up?” asked Natalie.
“I’d rather not talk about it,” said Nancy quietly.
“Look Nancy, if I’m right about this guy, all he is doing is hurting women. Did he hit you? Is that why you broke it off?” asked Natalie.
“N-no,” stammered Nancy, “What makes you think that?”
Natalie showed Nancy the 2 articles. “The first article says that charges were brought up against him for assault. The next article is about a month later and it says the charges were dropped. In both articles, it says that the complainant’s names were withheld because of their age. That IS the time period you were dating him, isn’t it Nancy?” asked Natalie.
Nancy looked at the articles and then looked and Natalie and back at the articles. “I-I didn’t think anyone would ever figure it out,” said Nancy starting to cry. “I started dating him because I thought he was a hunk, and to get back at Roger. It was never anything serious for me. I was really only doing it to make Roger jealous. Then Roger and I made up and I broke up with Robert. He went ballistic, he started yelling and screaming, and then he-he-he hit me. Do you remember, that nasty bruise I had on the side of my face you kept asking about? Well, that was from Robert. He scared me then Nat. I knew then it was a good thing to get out of the relationship. I filed charges against him. That did not make him very happy. He kept coming around the dorms at night and he would leave me notes to let me know he had been there. He kept asking me to come back to him and I kept saying no. He called me daily threatening me. I just started ignoring him, hoping he would just go away. One night, he followed me when Roger and I went to a movie. When we came out he was waiting for us. He jumped Roger and beat him up pretty bad. He said if I didn’t drop the charges, he would come after me next. I was scared, so I dropped the charges. I never saw him after that.”
“Oh Nancy,” said Natalie, giving Nancy a hug. “I wish I could have been there for you.”
“That’s okay,” said Nancy wiping away her tears, “It’s not like I put out what he was doing. I had trouble enough trying to keep the entire story from Tootie,” said Nancy smiling.
“Yea, she was a pretty good gossip hound wasn’t she?” said Natalie grinning.
“Listen, if he is going out with someone you know, tell her to dump him NOW, before it’s too late. He is dangerous. The littlest things would make him snap. I found out later from Emily that he had been hitting her. I’m sure the list of girls goes on and on from there. I don’t even what to know how many people he has done this to,” said Nancy.
“Well I do,” said Natalie with a determined look on her face.
“Please be careful Natalie, I don’t want anything happening to you,” pleaded Nancy.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be careful. I promise,” said Natalie.
“Okay. Well, I need to get going. It was really good seeing you Natalie. Take care, and be careful,” said Nancy getting up to leave.
“I will. It was good seeing you Nancy. Don’t make yourself a stranger, come by anytime,” said Natalie watching Nancy leave.
After Nancy left, Natalie sat down, this is worse then I thought. About that time the phone rang, Natalie answered it, “Hello?”
“Natalie? This is Peter, I’ve got something for you, but all it is, is confusing.”
“What do you mean Peter? What did you find out?” asked Natalie.
“I found out that he is dead,” said Peter.
“Say what?” asked Natalie.
“Let me clarify myself. There was a Robert Michael Masterson III born in New York City 1965 to Barbara and Robert Michael Masterson II, but he was a sick baby. He died before he was a week old. Who ever this guy is, he has taken this kid's identity. I’ll keep searching and see what I can find out. I’ll call you at home when I find out anything,” said Peter.
“Okay, thanks a bunch Peter,” said Natalie, “I owe YOU one now. I’ll talk to you later, bye.”
“Bye Natalie, good luck.”
Natalie hung up the phone and sat there thinking for a few minutes. I wonder, thought Natalie, if he dated both Emily and Nancy, whom else did he date from Eastland? Well, only one way to find out she thought. Natalie got up and went to go find Emily to ask her some questions.
CHAPTER 4
When Blair didn’t come in early that night like she said she was going to, Natalie started to worry. She had investigated Robert that day, and what she found worried her. Natalie was waiting for Jo and Tootie to come home so that she could tell them what she had found out about Robert that day.
Natalie was pacing the floor when Jo and Tootie finally got home. “Jo, Tootie, where have you guys been,” exclaimed Natalie. "Look, it doesn’t matter we have to talk now. I think Blair might be in big trouble and we have to do something before she gets hurt bad,” said Natalie.
“Hey, slow down Nat,” said Jo.
“Yea,” agreed Tootie, “I mean it can’t be all that serious, can it?
“It can and it is,” exclaimed Natalie. “Look I’ll start at the beginning okay?”
“The beginning is always good,” agreed Jo as she and Tootie sat down on the couch.
“Okay,” Natalie started, “I was up late when Blair finally came in at 12:30 this morning.
“12:30!” exclaimed Jo and Tootie at the same time.
“Wow,” said Tootie, “If Mrs. Garrett finds out, somebody’s gonna be in trooouble.”
“Knock it off Tootie,” said Natalie sounding exasperated, “This is serious you guys, just listen.”
“Okay, okay,” said Tootie.
“Go on Nat,” said Jo.
“Anyway,” Natalie continued, “Blair and I got to talking about her night and she became really defensive when I asked her where she had been. She tried telling me she lost track of time what with being out with the gang and all.”
“But,” interrupted Jo, “she left with Robert at 10.”
“That’s what I said,” exclaimed Natalie. “Then Blair said that we, you and myself Jo, should mind our own business.”
“That doesn’t sound like Blair,” interjected Tootie, “even when she is being snooty.”
“I know,” replied Natalie, “I was about to point that out to her when I noticed her face” Natalie paused for dramatization. “The entire right side of her face was swollen.”
“Swollen!?!” exclaimed Tootie and Jo in unison. A shocked look appeared on their faces.
“And that’s not the worst of it,” continued Natalie, “ She was wearing more make-up then usual, almost like she was trying to hide something. When I asked about the swelling, she said that she had fallen and hit her face on the ground. She was just so nonchalant about it, like it didn’t matter that her ‘perfect’ face wasn’t anymore. She was just not acting like herself.’
“If Robert did ANYTHING to her I’ll, I’ll…” Jo started.
Tootie still had the shocked look on her face. “Why wouldn’t she tell one of us? She must have been so scared.”
“This explains what was up with Blair this morning,” said Jo.
"What do you mean?" asked Natalie.
"Well, " Jo started, "I got up early this morning because I was going to meet some classmates at the coffee shop before class. I go to the bathroom because Blair is NEVER up that early and she is already in there. I waited for an hour and a half on her. No telling how long she had been in there before that. When she finally came out, I noticed her face was swollen. I figured it was just from one of her face product things that had done that to her face so I didn't say anything. She got real paranoid when I was looking at her though. Now I know why."
"Hey Nat," said Tootie, " you said that the right side of her face was swollen right?"
"Yea, why?" replied Natalie.
"Well, when Blair came down the stairs this morning she kept her left side to us at all times," said Tootie, "She even left through the store. When I asked her why she was going that way, she said that she parked back there last night so she wouldn't wake anybody up."
"She probably went out that way," continued Natalie, " so that you and Mrs. G. would not see the swelling."
"Man she was sneaky," said Jo, "I can't believe she did all that just to keep us from knowing."
"I wish I could say that that's all," started Natalie, "but…"
"But, but what?" asked an exasperated Jo, "How much worse can this get?"
"Plenty," replied Natalie, "See I started looking into Robert's past. You know, asking questions, that sort of thing. Anyway, it seems that Mr. Masterson has quite a temper. Do you all remember that guy Nancy was kind of interested in a few years back when she and Roger had broken up?"
"Oh yeah," said Tootie, "I remember that. It was some of my best gossip. When Nancy broke up with the guy and went back to Roger, the guy had a fit. He called Nancy daily threatening her and when she ignored him, he went after Roger. He jumped Roger one night and beat him up pretty bad. After that, he never bothered Nancy or Roger again."
"Right," said Jo, "I remember now. Wow, was that Robert?"
"The one and only," replied Natalie, "Not only that, but his temper has gotten worse. If something doesn't go his way he snaps and attacks whatever or whoever is closest to him at the time. The problem is that no one has ever pressed charges against him."
"I wonder why?" asked Tootie.
"Oh, he probably put the press on'em," said Jo.
"Say what?" asked Tootie.
"You know, he pressured them to back off by threatening them somehow," replied Jo, "Happened in the Bronx all the time."
"Oh," said Tootie.
"Where do you get all this information from anyway Nat," asked Jo.
"Hey, I'm a journalist, I always get my story." replied Natalie,
"Anyway, this is why I am so worried about Blair not being home already," said Natalie looking at her watch, it was 7:10 pm.
"Any idea where they might be Jo?" asked Tootie.
"Well," began Jo, "Blair once told me that Robert has taken her to the old drive in a few times for some privacy."
"I thought they tore it down and built something else in its place," said Tootie.
"Oh they did," replied Natalie, "but the screen and a few of the parking spaces are still there behind the new buildings. It definitely makes for a secluded spot."
"Well, what are we waiting for, lets go," said Jo getting up and grabbing her jacket.
"I'll write a note for Mrs. G." said Tootie, "to tell her where we are and what is going on."
"Good idea Tootie," said Natalie, "We'll meet you outside in the car."
CHAPTER 5
Meanwhile
Blair looked at her watch. It was already past 7:00 p.m. She knew if she did not get home soon, the others would start to worry about her because she said she would be home early. Where was he anyway thought Blair? After reading all of her messages from Robert, she finally called and agreed to meet him. They agreed to meet here at 6:30. What was she thinking of, agreeing to meet Robert at the old Drive-In by herself this late at night. I must be crazy, thought Blair. If he’s not here in 5 minutes, Blair told herself, I’m leaving.
Just as Blair was giving up and heading for her car, she saw the headlights of Robert’s car. Her heart started beating fast. The last time I saw him, she thought, he hit me. What was I thinking agreeing to see him again? I’ve got to be strong Blair told herself.
Robert stopped his car and got out. He looked at Blair with longing in his eyes. Man he looks gorgeous, thought Blair. There he stood, 6’2” light brown hair and the darkest green eyes Blair had ever seen. It was those eyes that first attacked me to him, Blair remembered. Incidentally, it was those same eyes that scared her so much last night. Blair shivered as he came closer to her.
“Hi Blair,” said Robert, “You look great.”
“Yeah right,” retorted Blair, “Did you forget that you left your signature on my face last night, and the night before that, and the night before that. Shall I go on?”
Robert looked away with an ashamed look on his face. “I’ve been trying to talk to you all day,” he said.
“Oh yes,” said Blair, “I know, but I DO have a life other than you.”
“Come on Blair,” Robert pleaded, “Don’t be this way, I said I was sorry.”
“YOUR SORRY!!” yelled Blair, “YOUR SORRY! Look at me. LOOK AT ME!” demanded Blair when Robert looked away. “Because of the fact that you got a ‘little’ angry last night my face is swollen with several bruises. Not only that,” she continued stepping closer to Robert, “I have bruises on my arms from where you grabbed me, and bruises on my back from where I fell. You know what Robert you're not sorry I'm sorry. It's over between us."
"What do you mean?" Robert asked, anger flashing in his eyes.
"What do you mean what do I mean?" Blair asked. "It's over between us Robert. I am NOT going to be in any relationship with a man that hits me and then tries to make me feel that it was my fault. I’ve given you the benefit of the doubt long enough Robert. I was hoping you were just having some bad days or that you would stop, but after last night I realize that you will NEVER change. Jo was right, I shouldn’t have to spend an extra couple of hours in the bathroom getting ready for the day just because you got mad the night before, and frankly, I am tired of doing it. I refuse to live that way any longer," declared Blair.
Robert looked over at Blair, anger and hatred written all over his face. The look frightened Blair. She started backing up towards her car when Robert grabbed her.
"You're going to regret breaking up with ME Ms. Warner. When I'm through with you," stated Robert pulling out a knife, "nobody will EVER care how much time you spend getting ready in the morning, it won’t matter. Nobody will ever want to go out with you ever again." Blair's opened her eyes wide when she saw the knife and screamed. Robert laughed evilly as Blair gasped and turned white when he made that statement.
Robert threw Blair to the ground while Blair was hitting him; he shifted his knife from his right hand to his left and grinned. "What's wrong Blair?" he asked, "Not so high and mighty now are we? I'll tell you what Blair, if you are really good and stop fighting me, I'll leave your pretty little face alone."
"Please!" Blair pleaded thinking quickly, "I'm sure we can work something out Robert. There is no need to take it this far."
"Oh no," said Blair, "You have disgraced my honor by breaking up with ME Robert Michael Masterson III. You had your chance Blair, now it's my turn."
Robert clenched his right hand into a fist and punched. Blair screamed as the first punch hit her in the face. The next one cracked a rib. The third punch broke a rib. The fourth punch was aimed right at Blair's head. As she was screaming and trying to fight him off, he struck. Suddenly, where screams had been filling the air seconds before, there was silence. Blair lay unconscious on the floor with no way to defend herself as Robert leaned over her, his knife in hand laughing wickedly.

BlairW_1 07-09-2001, 11:29 PM GREAT!!!! I was gonna write a story sorta like this, but now... hmm... I think not! I'd be embarrased! You know, I think you're up there in Devon King's catagory. Y'all are sooooo good! yer gonna have to write more!!! (If you haven't noticed, 1st fanfics are usually the best ones on the board... Unlike mine, mine have yet to be even good on the board...) Plz post more soon since you have so much more written!

Wow, a great writer, and you're not a Yank, either! I have a feeling we can be kindred spirits, don't you? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif I feel that it's tome to discontinue blabbering on so, and stop quoting Anne, for goodness sakes! <3 y'all, buh-byezies!

The reason I stopped is because I am still in the process of typing up the story. I write quicker then I type so I have more written down then I have typed up right now. I am typing every night when I get home from work, and before I go to bed I am posting more of the story. I am typing as fast as I can because y'all seem to really like this story. I'll post more tonight after work.

triple19 07-10-2001, 04:25 PM AGS, this is a GREAT story. Your writing skills are good, and you've picked a good subject to tackle. Blair having an abusive boyfriend is very realistic.
I have one question though. Natalie using her reporters skills to get the goods on Robert was a great idea. We know that he was a problem for Nancy and Roger, but who else has had to deal with his abuse? Does Natalie know other people who know Robert? Is she friends with girls who have dated him recently? Did she talk to these people in person, or by phone? You could even have Natalie say who she talked to when she tells Tootie and Jo what she's discovered.
This would fill in the gap of how she dug up the recent information, and I think it would make your story even more interesting. I know you've written a lot and it's taken a lot of time, but please condsider this suggestion.
Dont worry about taking time to type the story, just get it out when you can.
Keep up the good work! I'm looking forward to reading your next installment.

That is a good idea. I'l write that up as well. I write notes to myself as I am writing so I can go back and elaborate later, I hadn't thought of that though, but that is why I am asking for people's opinion. Appreciate it.

Ags2000 07-13-2001, 02:03 AM I am getting ready to go out of town, so I don't know if I will have time to type up more of the story before I leave. It is really coming along well. I will be gone for about a week, so I will have plenty of time to write more. When I get back, I will probably edit the first post because I am going to be adding parts to it. Anyway, enjoy the story, and I will be back in about a week (maybe sooner if I can take the laptop with me) http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

BlairW_1 07-13-2001, 12:58 PM Ok, D2, buh-byezies, we'll miss you!!! I hope you can take your laptop with you, even though they're prejudiced and will only not-lock-up for one person at a time... It was me for the longest time, and this computer hardly locked up on me, and poor daddy couldn't get on it. Well, now it's the other way around... Hope you have fun wherever you go, even if it's for work! (That means ya gotta go shopping!!!) I g2g now, so buh-byezies!

I'm the self appointed moderator around here, so y'all had better not argue while I'm around! Anytime y'all argue, I report it to Coily2 or TJ (I have his email address... I appreciate it. It might ne a bit before I can post b/c I ended up going to a funeral this weekend. I just got back and I am leaving Tuesday night for my "vacation" then. Hopefully it will be relaxing so I can write. We'll see.
D
BlairW_1 07-17-2001, 03:16 PM lol, I know what kind of vacation you're in for, are you sure it's gonna be relaxing? http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif hehee, I'm sure it will be, because my cousins (my sis isn't old enough 4 kids yet, lol) are pretty quiet, and since we're almost exactly alike except for # of siblings and what position we played in softball, I think it'll be pretty relaxing. Oh, and sorry for last night, Haven woke mom up, and she got mad at me for staying up so late, even though I was taping No Time for Sergeants. I really can't wait for your next post!!! :P well, g2g, buh-byezies!

Ags2000 07-23-2001, 11:49 PM CHAPTER 6
Mrs. Garrett juggled the groceries to her left arm so that she could unlock and open the front door. “Girls!” Mrs. Garrett called, “Girls I need some help bringing in the groceries. Girls?” Oh they always seem to know when I’ve gone grocery shopping, thought Mrs. Garrett. “Oh well,” she said to herself, “I guess I get to unpack the groceries myself.”
Mrs. Garrett went to the kitchen to put the groceries away. She went back and forth between the car and the kitchen unloading the groceries from the car and putting them away. She never saw the note that Tootie had left for her until she had finished putting away all of the groceries.
“I wonder where those girls went to?” asked Mrs. Garrett. She looked at her watch; it was 7:20 pm. “Well, I guess I’ll just make some sandwiches for…” her voice trailed off as she saw the note sitting on the desk by the stairs. “What’s this?” she asked as she pulled her glasses on. She started to read:
‘Mrs. Garrett, you might want to sit down for this.’
“Oh no,” exclaimed Mrs. Garrett, “I hate it when notes start out like this. She took the note over to the couch and sat down. She continued:
‘Blair is in trouble. If you have not heard from us by 7:30 tonight call the police, we probably need help. We have reason to believe that Blair’s new boyfriend is beating Blair. He has a very nasty temper and we all had seen Blair acting stranger then normal. Jo and Nat both saw her face swollen this morning and nobody has seen her tonight. We think she might be meeting Robert tonight at the old drive-in. Send the police there; we will call you as soon as we find out anything.
Tootie
Mrs. Garrett got up and went strait to the phone and dialed the number for the police, there was no way she was waiting any longer. The phone started ringing and was picked up on the third ring.
“Peekskill Police Department this is Officer Baker how may I help you?” said Officer Baker.
“May I speak to Captain James Davis please,” said Mrs. Garrett, “tell him it is Edna Garrett calling.”
“Sure thing ma’am, please hold,” said Officer Baker.
It seemed to take forever before a voice came on the other end.
“Captain Davis,” came the voice.
“James!” exclaimed Mrs. Garrett, “Am I glad you are there. I need your help.”
“Mrs. Garrett, what’s wrong?” asked James.
“I’m afraid one of my girls, Blair, is in an abusive relationship. The other girls said she came in this morning with a swollen face, and Natalie has found a lot of things about this guy that says he has a really bad temper. To top that off, they think Blair went off to meet him again at the old drive-in and they have taken off after her. I’m worried James,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“Calm down, Mrs. G. The old drive-in you say? Okay, I’ll send some officers over there right now to check it out. What is the boy’s name?”
“His name is Robert Michael Masterson III,” replied Mrs. Garrett
“Did you say Masterson?” asked James.
“Yes,” said Mrs. Garrett, “Robert Michael Masterson III, why?”
“I’m not exactly sure, the name rings a bell. I’ll run a background check on him and see what comes up. Meanwhile,” continued James, “you stay where you are and I’ll let you know if we find anything okay?”
“I will not,” said Mrs. Garrett, “I’m going after my girls.”
“Mrs. G.,” started James, he was quiet for a minute. “Okay, at least let me come and pick you up myself after I run the background check.”
“How about I meet you down at the station so you can run the check right now and not have to worry about coming all the way over here,” countered Mrs. Garrett.
“Okay Mrs. Garrett,” said James knowing there was no way to argue with her. “I’ll leave word up front that you are coming back here to see me.”
“That sounds good,” said Mrs. Garrett, “I’ll see you in a few minutes.”
She hung up the phone and sighed. “Oh, I hope I’m not too late,” said Mrs. Garrett as she picked up her purse and jacket and headed out the door.

Ags2000 07-24-2001, 10:49 PM CHAPTER 7
“Can’t this bucket of bolts go any faster?” asked Jo.
“Jo,” exclaimed Natalie, “You’re already going 60. How much faster do you want to go?” asked Natalie as she grabbed the arm grip on the side of the door when Jo made a fast left. “What do you want to do Jo, fly?”
“If I can,” said Jo as she made a sharp right. “I am really worried about what is going on at the drive-in. I just have a … funny feeling about this. Something just doesn’t fit.”
“Several things don’t fit Jo,” said Tootie, “but we’re not going to be able to help Blair if we don’t arrive in one piece.”
“Look,” started Jo, “I never liked Robert from the get-go, I admit it. I don’t know why but my gut just did not trust him that day I saw him as I left the store when he came in. Come to think of it, I never was introduced to him. I just know him from Blair mentioning his name and showing off his picture. That day in the store was the only day I saw him in person.”
“Look, there’s the drive-in,” exclaimed Natalie.
Jo turned on the bright lights and started looking for Blair.
“Do you see Jo anywhere?” asked Tootie leaning over the back of the seat.
“Not yet,” replied Natalie, “WAIT! STOP THE CAR!” yelled Natalie.
“What?” asked Jo?
“There, over there,” replied Natalie pointing off to the right.
“Oh my Lord,” exclaimed Tootie.
Jo slammed on the brakes, threw the car into park while opening the door, and went running over to the bloodied heap that lay on the ground.
It was Blair all right, and she was hurt pretty bad.
“Blair, Blair, can you hear me?” asked Jo, “Come on Blair open your eyes.”
“Tootie,” yelled Jo over her shoulder, “Get the first aid kit out of the trunk. Natalie, get over here and help me to try to control all of the bleeding. Hurry guys!”
Natalie rushed over to Blair with tears in her eyes. “I should have come sooner,” said Natalie, “This is all my fault,” said Natalie as she put pressure on the biggest cut she saw that was bleeding.
“Stop that talk Natalie, the only person that is responsible for this is Robert,” said Jo as Tootie came up with the first aid kit.
Tootie had started taking bandages out of the first aid kit when she first saw Blair. “Oh no,” said Tootie.
“Here Tootie,” said Jo, “I’ll do that, you go for help. Blair needs an ambulance NOW!”
“Okay,” said Tootie crying glancing over at Natalie who was also crying. Tootie ran back to the car and opened the door. “You still have the keys Jo,” said Tootie as she turned around to go and get them.
“JO!” Tootie screamed at the top of her lungs. “LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!”
Startled, Jo turned around and saw Robert above her with a knife in his hand about to stab her. “WHOA!” Jo yelled as she punched him in his knee to make him fall.
“Natalie,” Jo yelled jumping back as Robert tried to grab her. “Get Blair into the car and get her to the hospital! GO!” she yelled.
Tootie came running over and helped Natalie lift Blair as Jo and Robert started to struggle.
“Come on Jo,” cried Tootie.
“NO!” yelled Jo as she ducked as Robert swung his knife toward her. Jo punched him in his nose. “You need to get Blair out of her. I’ll handle him. No time for arguing. Just go NOW! I’ll take Blair’s car.”
“But you don’t have her keys,” said Natalie.
“Since when do I need keys?” asked Jo as she blocked a punch aimed for her head and countered with a punch to his gut. “NOW GO!!”
Natalie and Tootie did not want to leave Jo like this, but they knew Jo was NOT going to be leaving this fight and Blair would die if they hung around to wait for the fight to end. They agreed to head to the hospital, but they were stopping at the first phone booth to call the police.
Tootie got into the backseat with Blair while Natalie got in the driver’s seat. As they drove off, Natalie watched Jo and Robert in the rearview mirror until she could no longer see them. “Good luck Jo,” whispered Natalie as she turned the corner.

Ags2000 08-03-2001, 12:18 AM CHAPTER 8
Jo looked around searching for the knife that she had just knocked out of Robert’s hand, while trying to think up a plan and fast. “Robert,” Jo yelled, “Are you crazy? Think about what you are doing here man. You hurt your girlfriend, your trying to hurt me, all your going to end up doing is hurting yourself man. Let me help you Robert, we can end this here and now.”
“Humph,” replied Robert, “Yea you’d help me alright. Just like you did years ago in the Bronx right. Well you did have one thing right, this IS going to end tonight.”
“The Bronx?” asked Jo, “What in the world are you talking about Robert?”
“Ah, the lovely Jo Polniaczek actually doesn’t remember,” said Robert as he and Jo circled each other, neither giving the other any ground.
“There’s nothing to remember Robert. I’ve never met you prior to you dating Blair,” said Jo.
“Oh, but you have,” replied Robert, “Only back then you probably knew me by another name. I changed my name a few years ago to escape my past that YOU helped to create. Imagine my surprise when Blair mentioned your name a little while back. I guess you can say I lost my temper every time she would bring your name up and I took it out on her. The funny thing is, I didn’t even realize that I was hitting Blair,” he laughed.
“You were hitting Blair because you think you know me?” said Jo.
“Oh, I know you all right. In fact, you really haven’t changed much. I saw your face every day Jo. Your face, the face I hated for the five years I spent in prison because you testified against me. For five years I plotted my revenge against you. For five LONG years I dreamt of ways to make you suffer for the time I spent in prison because of you. Do you remember me know Jo?” Robert asked.
Jo started thinking back. She had only been involved in one case in which she testified against anyone, but he didn’t even look like Robert, thought Jo. In fact Robert wasn’t even his name. What was his name, thought Jo? Bane…Lane…Shane. Yea that was it Shane, Shane … ROBERTS. A shocked look appeared on Jo’s face.
“Ah, she finally remembers me,” said Shane with a wicked smile on her face.
Jo remembered all right. Shane Roberts was a guy nobody wanted to tangle with. Even back then he was tall, muscular, and VERY intimidating. She remembered it like it was yesterday. It was the only gang shooting Jo had ever seen up-close and personal. She shivered as the memory came back to her full force.
Flashback: May 1976
She and Jessie had just come from the burger joint; they were skipping school as usual. Jessie had gone on ahead because Jo was going to stop at Old Mrs. Hanigan’s store to get a couple of things. Jo walked into the store and Mrs. Hanigan immediately started in on Jo for skipping school, again. Mrs. Hanigan was lecturing Jo saying that if she keeps skipping school and shoplifting, she was going to end up as a bum on the corner. Jo rolled her eyes. Was she ever going to let up on that, thought Jo shaking her head?
About that time, five boys walked into the store. Great, Jo thought, a distraction, she should leave me alone now. Jo was about to turn around when the tallest boy pulled out a gun, pointed it at Mrs. Hanigan, who was still going on about Jo's life, and pulled the trigger. The bullet caught Mrs. Hanigan square in the chest. The other four boys jumped over the counter and got the money out of the cash register. The first boy turned toward Jo, who was still staring at Mrs. Hanigan with her mouth open, pointed the gun at her head, and pulled the trigger. The gun jammed. Jo didn't wait around; she turned around and took off running for the back exit to the store. The guy cleared the gun chamber and, once again, pointed the gun at Jo and pulled the trigger. Once again, the gun jammed. He yelled after Jo, while still pulling the trigger, "You better never tell of this girl, or I'll hunt you down and silence you myself."
Just as Jo was about to turn the corner, the gun finally went off. Jo was shot in the upper right shoulder. Jo felt instant pain, but she kept running anyway. She knew she had to get out of there, those guys were ruthless. Jo ran until she reached the door, then she turned toward home and kept running. Her shoulder ached so much, but she kept running until she finally caught up to Jessie.
Jessie turned around when she heard the noise of feet pounding on the pavement. She figured Mrs. Hanigan had called the cops on Jo, and that Jo was running from them. Jessie grinned while turning around. What she saw turned her face white as a ghost. It was Jo all right, but she had blood running down her right arm and back.
"Jo," exclaimed Jessie running to her friend's side, "What happened to you? How did you get shot? Who shot you?"
"It doesn't matter," said Jo, "Just help me, please."
Jessie looked around and saw a pay phone across the street. She looked around and did not see anybody else.
"Okay Jo," she said, "You sit down here while I go call for help."
Jo sat down on the ground and leaned back against the fence grimacing from the pain. Jessie ran across the street and dialed 9-1-1.
"911, what is your emergency?" asked the operator.
Yea, I need an ambulance at the 143rd Street Community Park, a girl has been shot," said Jessie.
"Are the shooters still in the area?" asked the operator while getting the attention of one of the other operators to dispatch the ambulance.
"Oh, no," said Jessie, "She wasn’t shot here, she was shot somewhere else and ran here."
"Okay," said he operator, "help is on the way. What is your name ma'am?"
Jessie looked at the phone in surprise. She hadn't expected her to ask that question. If her probation officer found out that she was skipping again or that she was somehow involved in a shooting, she would be in BIG trouble. Jessie did the only thing she could. Jessie hung up the phone and ran back to Jo.
"Jo, Jo, you still with me?" asked Jessie with a worried expression on her face.
"Yes, I'm still here Jess," replied Jo.
"Good, now this is what I want you to do. I want you to start singing a song, any song, and keep singing it until help arrives okay, said Jessie. "I have to leave Jo. I can't let my probation officer know that I was anywhere near this. Ya understand don't ya Jo, I mean, I would stay if I could, but…" trailed off Jessie.
"Hey, I understand Jess," said Jo, "You better get going before the cops show up and start asking questions. I'm gonna be in enough trouble for skipping without having to explain you being here to, now git."
"Okay Jo, I want you to start singing now, and I want to be hearing you sing for awhile," said Jessie.
"Okay," said Jo, thinking about what to sing.
As Jessie started walking away, Jo got a gleam in her eye. She knew the perfect song to sing. Just as Jessie was turning the corner, Jo started singing '100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.' Jessie grinned to herself when she heard Jo sing, and kept walking.

Ags2000 09-03-2001, 01:43 AM Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad y'all are enjoying this story. I've had a blast writing it. Here is the next part of Chapter 8. Hopefully I will be able to finish typing up Chapter 8 soon.
Chapter 8 Cont.
Jo had reached 83 Bottles of Beer before the first ambulance arrived. The EMT's immediately started asking Jo all sorts of questions such as was she allergic to any medicines, was taking any medications, and if she hurt anywhere else. Jo answered as best as she could. The cops arrived shortly before the ambulance was ready to take Jo to the hospital. They started asking Jo where she was when she was shot and who did it. In response, Jo started singing '100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall' again. The cops took the hint and finally gave up, and instead asked for Jo's parent's names so they could be notified. Jo gave them her mom's name and where she worked, then the EMT's loaded Jo into the ambulance and took off for the hospital. Sometime during the ride, Jo lost consciousness.
Jo opened her eyes slowly. Where was she, she wondered. She looked around her. A hospital thought Jo, oh yea. I remember now she thought. Jo looked at her right arm and found that her shoulder was bandaged from where she was shot. Jo turned to her left, and sitting there was, "Mom?" asked Jo.
Rose's eyes instantly popped open. "Jo, oh Jo, you're awake, my baby," said Rose as she came towards Jo to hug her.
Boy was Jo glad it was her mom there and not the cops. When Jo went to pick her left arm up to hug her mom, she realized that she couldn't. Jo looked down and saw a pair of handcuffs on her wrist and the bed. "What the heck is this?" asked Jo, her temper immediately flaring up.
"Jo," started Rose, "you were seen running from Mrs. Hannigan's store right after people heard gun shots, and then you wouldn't tell the police how and where you got shot. Nobody else was there when the police showed up Jo. They have placed you under arrest for the murder of Mrs. Hannigan as well as for robbing her store."
Jo sat there in disbelief. She had been arrested, not those guys. This was SO NOT happening. Jo took a deep breath before she continued. "Mom," she said, "I am a lot of things, I shoplift, I skip school, I even hot wire cars, but I DO NOT shoot people. I don't even have a gun."
"I know baby," began Rose, "but the evidence is pretty well stacked against you. They found the gun involved in the shooting in the alley that you were running through. There were no prints on the gun, they figure that you wiped it down."
"And how do they explain me being shot?" asked Jo angrily.
"They believe that you and Mrs. Hannigan had another of your famous confrontations," Rose started, "they say that you got mad, pulled the gun and then the two of you started to struggle. The gun went off, and you were shot. You then got mad, got the gun, and shot Mrs. Hannigan."
Jo looked at her mom square in the eye, "And you," asked Jo, "what do you believe?"
"I'll believe whatever you tell me Jo. You have never lied to me before, and I don't expect you to start now."
Jo looked at her mom and said, "Mom, I DID NOT do it. I DID NOT shoot Mrs. Hannigan, and I DID NOT rob the store."
"That's good enough for me," said Rose, "Why don't you tell me what happened and we can figure out what to do."
Jo thought it over for a few minutes. If she told what happened, they would come looking for her, if she didn't tell what happened, she would probably end up in jail for murder. She came to her decision; she HAD to tell her mom. "Okay," said Jo, "I'll tell you what happened. It is a long story, you might want to sit down for this."
Jo went on to tell her mom exactly what had happened starting with her skipping school and ending with Jessie helping her out. When she finished her story, Jo had tears in her eyes. As she looked at her mom, she found that her mom did as well.
Rose got up and gave Jo a hug. "I think I need to go talk to the detective in charge of this case. I'll be right back Jo. Do not, under any circumstances, talk to anyone about what you just told me until I get back. I don't care if they say that they are the President of the United States, you tell them you will not answer any questions without you mom here okay."
Jo smiled at her mom, "Okay mom, I promise."
"It'll be all right Jo, you'll see," said Rose as she walked out the door.
Jo watched as her mom walked over to the door and opened it to leave. On the other side of the door was a cop. He's standing guard over me, thought Jo. How on earth did this happen? I saw Mrs. Hannigan get shot and killed, and I get shot myself, then I get pinned for this, just typical, thought Jo in disgust. Jo turned her head and looked out the window.
A couple of hours later, Rose returned with two men. Jo eyed them suspiciously.
"Did anybody come in here after I left," asked Rose.
"Who're they?" asked Jo, ignoring her moms question for now.
"Oh," said Rose, "this is Detective Jackson the officer in-charge of the investigation, and this is Mr. Kenicki, your lawyer."
"Hi Jo," said Detective Jackson, "May name is Sam."
Jo did not reply. She looked at Detective Sam Jackson with pure hatred. It was HIS fault she was under arrest, thought Jo.
"Okay," said Detective Jackson, "I think we need to clear up a few things. First, I did not arrest you, nor did I ever say that you were a suspect."
"Then why do I have these on?" asked Jo holding up her left hand as far as the hand cuffs would allow her to.
"That was purely between the chief and the District Attorney," continued Detective Jackson, "They have both been under pressure and wanted an arrest. You were the only one seen near the store at the time of the shooting. They put 2 and 2 together and got 5. Personally, I don't agree with them about what they say occurred yesterday for several reasons. First, I've looked at your record, you are into petty things. Shoplifting, skipping school, hot wiring friends' cars are all things that you are in to. Guns just aren't your thing."
Jo smiled on the inside, while still glaring at the cop. She liked him, thought Jo. He is a pretty smart cop.
"Secondly," continued Detective Jackson, "I don't think you had enough time to clean the gun off that quickly. Thirdly, and most convincingly, you were NOT shot from up-close as in a struggle. You were probably shot from across the room by the real shooters. How close is that to the truth?" asked detective Jackson.
"Pretty close actually," said Jo.
"Okay, well, why don't you tell me what happened, "said Detective Jackson pulling out a tape recorder.
"What's that for?" asked Jo suspiciously.
"This is just to make it your official statement. I will state my name and rank, the date and time, that this is your official statement, and who all is present in the room okay?" said Detective Jackson.
Jo looked at her mom and lawyer, they both nodded their heads. "Okay," said Jo,"Let's get this over with."
By that night, all charges against Jo were dropped. Jo went on to testify against all of the guys that were involved in the robbery and murder. They were all sentenced to prison time.

<3 u, Jacob!
You're coming back angrily from a Sunday service because all of your family tried to convert you into a true Christian. Yeah, you've been going to church, but you just don't buy all this Holy, Holy stuff. You take a bite of your peanut-butter sandwich, which is your breakfast. During the process of angrily honking your horn at a slow milk-truck in front of you, with about 40,000 bumperstickers on it, a wad of peanut butter gets stuck in your throat. You start coughing, and the car swerves uncontrollably. You run into the milk-truck, and it turns over on top of you, spilling milk all through your windshield and flooding your car. You stay there, almost drowning in milk, until you vaguely hear sirens and muffled voices. They carefully pull you out of the car, and place you on the strecher. One of the last things you see are two bumper stickers on a twisted piece of metal left from the truck, side by side. One of them says, "Got Milk?" the other says, "Got God?" As you are being loaded into the ambulance, you use the last of your strength to give out one final cry of pain. You close your eyes in prayer, asking the Lord to forgive you of your sins, thanking him for sending his Son to die on the cross for you. Suddenly some of what the strange man up in the pulpit has been preaching clicks in your mind, and you start to weep. You feel your strength flowing from you, but you stay calm, still mouthing, "Thank you, Jesus." You calmly take your last breath, knowing that you've finally figured something out, you've given your life to Christ, and you're going to Heaven...
Okay, was that too dramatic? Hmm, dunno, but I felt the need to type it, I've been in a witnessing mood lately. ?I intend to take this board for Jesus, well, if not at least one person, and all you have to do is do just what the person did in the story, that might be a real scenario someday, all I can tell you is be prepared. Well, TJ will kill me for this signature, buh-byezies! :)

Chapter 8 cont.
Back to Present
"Yea, I remember you alright you filthy creep! Why'd you attack Blair like that? She didn't do anything to you Shane. Oh, never mind I forgot you never needed a reason. You just hurt people for the fun of it," said Jo punching Shane in the nose again.
"Ow!" yelled Shane grabbing for his nose as it started bleeding again. Shane pulled his hand back and looked at the blood on it. "You flatter me too much Jo," said Shane wiping the blood off of his nose. "Actually, I like Blair, or rather liked her until she broke up with me tonight."
"At least she was smart enough to do that," replied Jo.
Shane smiled, "She seems to have some of your spunk in her. I have to admit, she put up quite a good fight. But all of that screaming and scratching sure got annoying pretty fast, so I finally had to knock her out. She sure does have a hard head though, I had to slam her head to the ground to shut her up."
Jo snapped, she swung with all her might and hit him square in the eye. The knife long forgotten, the two got into another fistfight, each landing around the same amount of punches. A few minutes later, as the two were lying on the ground trying to catch their breath, Shane sat up and looked over at Jo.
Jo stood up and turned her head to look at Shane. "Listen to me Shane, you need help. Let me help you get some help. It's still not too late."
"I don't think so," said Shane as he jumped up and made a grab for the knife that he had finally spotted behind Jo.
"Huh," said Jo as Shane ran by her. Jo started to turn around to find out what Shane was planning when she felt a pain in her side. "AAAAHHHH!!!!" screamed Jo as Shane pulled out the knife and stabbed Jo again in the side. Jo reached out and gouged at Shane's eyes.
Shane immediately started screaming. "AAAAAAAHHHHHHH! MY EYES MY EYES!"
Jo knew she had to get out of there and fast, she turned around and made a mad rush for Blair's car. She knew that was her only hope to get away from Shane. She reached Blair's car and jumped in. Jo reached under the steering wheel and pulled out the wires and started hot-wiring the car. The car roared to life and Jo slammed the car into gear and started speeding out of the parking lot. All of a sudden, Jo saw Shane right in front of her. Jo slammed on the breaks and turned the wheel, but there was nothing she could do in time. Jo's heart lurched as she hit Shane with the car and he went flying through the air. Jo screamed as she saw the wall in front of her coming closer. She tried turning the wheel the other way but it was too late. The last thought Jo had before crashing into the wall was "I hope Blair is ok."
In the silent night, an explosion ripped through the air.

Chapter 9
Natalie finally found a phone booth and pulled over. She ran up to the phone and dialed 9-1-1.
"911 what is your emergency?" asked the dispatcher.
"I am on my way to the hospital with my friend who has been stabbed, but we left behind our other friend with the guy that did the stabbing. They are at the old Drive-In. You have to send the police over there quickly before it is too late," finished Natalie in a panic.
"Calm down Miss," said the dispatcher, "Is this Blair, Jo, Natalie, or Tootie?" she asked.
Natalie's jaw dropped, "Yes, this is Natalie, but how?" she began.
"It's ok Miss, my Captain told us to keep an ear out for your call. Now then, I need some information from you. Who is hurt, who is with you, and who was left behind?" she asked.
"Well," Natalie began, "Blair is hurt pretty bad. Tootie is with Blair in the backseat, and Jo stayed behind because Robert showed up and attacked her. Jo told us to leave that she would catch up with us."
"Okay," said the dispatcher, "You go on to the hospital I'll call ahead and tell them to expect you. Police cars are already on the way to the drive-in. An Edna Garrett called a while ago to tell our captain."
"Oh good," replied Natalie, "Mrs. Garrett got our message."
"Drive safe Natalie," said the dispatcher.
Natalie got in the car and started toward the hospital again. "How's Blair doing Tootie?"
"Not good Nat, she is still loosing blood. What did they say?" asked Tootie.
"They said the Mrs. G had already called and the cops are on their way to the drive-in," replied Natalie, "She also said to go on to the hospital, that she would call ahead to let them know to expect us."
"Great," said Tootie, "let's get there fast."
"I couldn't agree with you more," said Natalie as she sped off.

Ags2000 09-09-2001, 02:17 PM Chapter 10
Mrs. Garrett was worried. They had just received a call over the radio saying that Natalie had called 911, they had Blair and were taking her to the hospital but they had left Jo behind because Robert had showed up and the two of them started fighting.
"Oh," said Mrs. Garrett, "can't this bucket of bolts go any faster James?"
"I'm going as fast as I can Mrs. G. Listen, when we get there, I want you to stay in the car. I don't know who has what weapons and I don't want anymore injuries then there already are," said James looking at Mrs. G.
"But," began Mrs. Garrett.
"No buts," said James, "When things are clear you can come out and talk with Jo okay?"
"Oh, okay," agreed Mrs. Garrett reluctantly.
About that time they came upon the drive-in and heard an explosion.
"Jo!" Mrs. Garrett gasped.
James grabbed his radio, "This is Captain Davis, roll the fire department and an ambulance NOW! We have a car explosion at the old drive-in"
"Roger that Captain," said the dispatcher, "The units are on the way now sir."
James did not here the last part because he and Mrs. Garrett had already jumped out of the car. James turned around "Mrs. Garrett, please," he started.
"James, that's Blair's car on fire and I used to be an RN. I can do more for her then you guys can."
"Fine, come on," said James as they raced over to the car.
One of the other officers had reached the car ahead of them and was attempting to put the engine fire out with his fire extinguisher. Another police officer had already pulled Jo out of the car and away from the fire.
Mrs. Garrett raced over to Jo. "Jo, Jo, talk to me," pleaded Mrs. Garrett.
"Captain," yelled another officer, "We have somebody else over here."
"Call for another ambulance then," yelled James running over to that officer.
"Mrs. G?" asked a weak voice.
"Yes, it's me Jo, it okay. Lay still, don't move," Mrs. Garrett instructed Jo as an officer brought a first aid kit to her.
"I couldn't stop Mrs. G.," said Jo starting to cry, "I just couldn't stop. I was trying to get out of here and all of a sudden Shane was in front of me. I tried to swerve to miss him, but it was too late. Then I hit the wall."
"Shhh," said Mrs. Garrett putting pressure on Jo's stab wounds. "Calm down Jo, everything will be fine. You just lay there and be quiet."
Mrs. Garrett looked over Jo's injuries. She had a couple of stab wounds to her side and abdomen, she had cuts and bruises all over her face, they didn't look too bad. The only one that worried her was the cut above her left eye on her forehead. It was a pretty bad cut. Mrs. Garrett figured Jo probably got that when the car crashed.
"Where all do you hurt Jo?" asked Mrs. Garrett.
"My side is killing me, my head hurts, and my left arm is killing me," replied Jo.
Mrs. Garrett looked down at Jo's arm and saw that her shoulder was dislocated. "Okay," I'll take care of it no problem," said Mrs. Garrett just as James came walking up.
"Is there anything you need Mrs. G.?" asked James.
"Yes, another pair of hands," replied Mrs. Garrett. "Here put pressure on the cut on her head."
"Sure thing, how is she doing?" asked James.
"Mrs. Garrett looked up with a worried look on her face, "She needs to get to a hospital now."
About that time they heard sirens in the background. The sirens grew closer and closer until the ambulance's pulled into the old drive-in. The EMT's closest to where Jo lay, jumped out of their rigs and ran over to Jo.
Mrs. Garrett started to move away to get out of their way when Jo grabbed her hand.
"Please don't me Mrs. G," said Jo looking into Mrs. Garrett's eyes.
Mrs. Garrett kneeled back down. "I won't Jo, I promise."
The EMT's started evaluating Jo. One started an IV while the other put an oxygen mask on Jo. They looked over Jo's wounds and then stabilized her neck and loaded her onto a gurney and started to move her to the ambulance.
"Mrs. G!" yelled Jo.
"I'm right here baby," said Mrs. Garrett grabbing Jo's hand again. "I can't ride with you right now, but I will be right behind you. You'll be just fine, they will take good care of you Jo."
"Mrs. G., can you do me a favor please?"
"Of course Jo, anything. You just name it," replied Mrs. Garrett.
"When you see my mother, tell her…tell her, I love her," Jo said crying.
"You can tell her when you see her Jo. Don't go and get all negative on me now. You think positive and everything will be just fine. You hear me Jo. You will be just fine."
The EMT's loaded Jo into the ambulance and started to close the door. Mrs. Garrett heard one of the EMT's yell, "Scott, start CPR, she just stopped breathing." The door was shut and they drove off.
Mrs. Garrett started crying as James came up and put his arm around her. "Are you okay Mrs. G?" asked James.
"I will be. How is Robert?" asked Mrs. Garrett looking at James.
"He is out cold. I guess he hit his head some how. It looks like he has a broken leg and nose. He also has lots of cuts and bruises on his face. Come on, I'll take you to the hospital and then I'll come back out here to wrap this up ok," said James.
Mrs. Garrett took a deep breath and then turned around, "Okay, thank you James."
Mrs. Garret and James walked over to the car and got in, Mrs. Garrett crying the entire time.

Ags2000 09-09-2001, 11:17 PM Chapter 11
Natalie and Tootie finally arrived at the hospital. Natalie runs inside. "Please, my friend needs help. The police dispatch was supposed to have called ahead," said Natalie.
Three nurses and two doctors came running up to Natalie with a gurney. "Where is she Miss?" asked one of the nurses.
"In my car," replied Natalie, "this way."
Natalie led the doctors and nurses out to the car. The doctors climbed into the car and started trying to stabilize Blair.
"Please Miss," said one of the nurses to Natalie and Tootie, who had just climbed out of the car, "stay out of the way for now. We will keep you updated on how your friend is."
"Sniff" came the reply from Natalie and Tootie as they were both crying. "Okay. Is there anything we can do?" asked Tootie.
"Yes," said the nurse as they started to wheel Blair into the hospital, "Pray, and call her family. That would be a big help. For now both of y'all follow me and I'll show you were y'all can wait."
Natalie and Tootie followed the nurse inside. The nurse finally got a look at Tootie.
"Oh my," the nurse exclaimed, "Where are you hurt, sit down here."
"Huh?" replied Tootie looking down, "Oh, you must mean all the blood. It's not mine, it must be Blair's."
"Oh," said the nurse, "In that case, why don't you follow me and I'll get you both a change of clothes."
"Both?" asked Natalie, "I don't need any…" Natalie started as she looked down. She gasped; she had some of Blair's blood on her too. She hadn't even realized it. "Oh, okay, lets go then. I want to get back here quickly."
The nurse smiled, "Come on girls. By the way, my name is Linda, Linda Davis.
"I'm Natalie Green and this is Tootie Ramsey," replied Natalie.
The girls followed Linda to a couple of bathrooms where Linda gave the girls a pair of scrubs to change into.
"It's not much," said Linda, "but they are clean and dry."
"We appreciate it," replied Tootie quietly walking into the bathroom.
"Hey I'm sure your friend will be just fine. The best surgeons are going to be working on her, have faith. Is there anything I can get for you?" asked Linda.
"Well actually," began Natalie, "I need a phone to call Blair's parents."
"No problem Natalie, follow me. After I show you the phone I'll show Tootie the waiting room and where you can get some coffee or something."
"I need the 'or something'" piped Tootie.
Linda grinned and said, "Come on."
Linda showed Natalie to a phone that she could use then showed Tootie the waiting room and where they could get some drinks.
"I've got to get back now," Linda told Tootie, "If y'all need anything just holler. When I hear anything I will let you girls know. Keep your chins up and say a little prayer."
"Thanks," said Tootie, "I will."
Linda turned around and went back to the ER. Tootie stood there for a moment saying a little prayer and then went back to Natalie.
"Any luck tracking down Blair's parents?" asked Tootie.
"Well her dad is out of the country on some business trip and Monica is at the spa. They are trying to track her down now," said Natalie, "I'm on hold."
"Oh," replied Tootie.
"Hello, Monica?" asked Natalie, "Hi, this is Natalie Green, Blair's roommate."
"Of course Natalie dear," replied Monica, "What can I do for you darling?"
"Um, Monica," began Natalie, "I'm afraid I have some bad news. It's about Blair."
"What about Blair?" asked Monica instantly concerned, "Is she all right? Is she hurt? Where is she? Let me talk to her please," pleaded Monica.
Monica, I don't know how to say this, so I'm just going to say it. Blair was attacked tonight."
"Attacked, what do you mean attacked? Who attacked her? Why did they attack her? Where did they attack her? When did they attack her?" Monica asked beginning to panic.
"We believe it was this new guy she has been dating about three weeks, Robert Masterson III. We don't know why he did it. We found her at the old drive-in theater about 30 minutes ago. Monica, she is hurt bad. She lost a lot of blood on the way to the hospital in my car, no telling how much blood she had lost prior to us arriving."
"How bad is she Natalie?" asked Monica.
"Well, she has a stab wound to the stomach, she has bruises all over her face and arms. She also had a pretty bad cut on her forehead. She was unconscious when we got there. As far as we know, she still has not regained consciousness."
"Are you girls all right?" asked Monica.
"We think so. He jumped us while we were helping Blair. Jo and him got into a fight and Jo told us to get Blair out of there while she kept him busy. We haven't heard from her since then. We called the police and they are sending police over there, so hopefully Jo will be here soon," explained Natalie.
"I'm sure she will be. I'll call David, and then I'll be on the next train to Peekskill. Keep me informed if anything develops before I get there," said Monica.
"Sure thing Monica, we'll see you when you get here, bye," said Natalie.
"Bye," said Monica hanging up the phone.
Natalie hung up the phone and turned to face Tootie who was crying.
"What do we do now Nat?" asked Tootie wiping tears from her eyes.
"Just keep thinking good thoughts and pray," said Natalie wrapping her arms around Tootie as she began to cry as well. Hugging each other, they walked back to the waiting room to wait for word on Blair.

Really, the only time I will have to type is on the weekends and sometimes during the week because of school. The profs load us down in homework now that I am just doing my field of study classes.
I must say, I have a confession to make. I have totally rewritten the ending. I was going to have it go one way, but when I started typing this up this weekend, a new idea came into my head (the whole car crash scene). So now I am having to rewrite parts that I had written already (Some of the parts still work with this story line and some don't). That's okay though, I like the way this is turning out better then the other way, more excitement. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

So go back to my first post and read chapter 3 so you won't be so confused here in Chapter 12 because I refer to Chapter 3. I'm not sure I totally like chapter 3 yet, but I'll polish it up before I repost this entire story when I am finally done. Hope you enjoy this new chapter.

Chapter 12
Mrs. Garrett and Captain Davis arrived at the hospital shortly after the ambulance arrived with Jo at 8 pm.
James looked around the waiting room; “I’m going to need to talk with Natalie and Tootie tonight and Blair whenever she is able.”
“I’ll go see if I can find the girls,” said Mrs. Garrett, “then I’ll try to get an update on Jo.”
“Okay, I’ll go check on Blair, then I need to get back out to the drive-in,” replied James.
Mrs. Garrett walked into the waiting room and looked around. “I wonder where Natalie and Tootie are?” said Mrs. Garrett.
“Mrs. Garrett, Mrs. Garrett!” yelled Natalie running down the hall.
“Oh, Mrs. G. you finally made it,” added Tootie running along beside Natalie.
Mrs. Garrett turned around, “Girls, my girls. Are both of you okay? How’s Blair? Have you called her parents? Why are you wearing those?”
“Yes, don’t know, yes, and because we had Blair’s blood on us,” replied Natalie.
“Oh girls, come here,” said Mrs. Garrett opening her arms to give the girls a hug.
“Oh Mrs. Garrett, it was so awful,” began Natalie.
“Yea,” interrupted Tootie, “We were just trying to help Blair and then Robert jumped Jo. I was so scared Mrs. Garrett.”
Mrs. Garrett squeezed Tootie’s shoulder. “It’s going to be alright girls.”
“Yea, we’ve heard that a lot tonight,” replied Tootie.
“We need to find James. He said he wanted to talk to you girls anyway,” said Mrs. Garrett, “Come on, he’s probably at the nurses station. He was going to check on Blair’s condition.”
They walked to the nurse’s station and found James standing there talking to a doctor, “Okay, thank you doctor. Here is a number where I can be reached if her condition changes. I appreciate all your help.”
The doctor and James shake hands and James turns around. “Mrs. Garrett, you found the girls. How are y’all doing? Are both of you okay?”
“Well, we’re shaken a bit, but I think we are fine,” said Natalie.
“Um, I don’t mean to be rude,” said Tootie, “but who are you?”
“Oh, I’m sorry girls,” said Mrs. Garrett, “Girls, this is James Davis. He is the captain of the Peekskill police department. James, this is Natalie and Tootie.”
“It’s nice to meet you girls. I wish it were under different circumstances though,” said James turning around towards the nurse’s station again. “Excuse me, miss, is there somewhere that we can go to talk in private.”
The nurse looked up, “Yes officer, just follow me this way.”
The nurse lead them down the hall to a private room with a table in it that they could talk in.
“Thank you,” said James shutting the door.
“Listen girls, I need to go and call Mrs. Polniaczek. Just answer James’ questions as best as you can okay.”
“Okay,” said Natalie and Tootie together.
Mrs. Garrett gave each of the girls a hug then walked out if the room to go and call Mrs. Polniaczek.
The girls watched as Mrs. Garrett left the room, they then turned and faced Captain Davis.
“So,” said Natalie, “Mrs. Garrett said you wanted to speak to us.”
“Yea, yes I do girls. Right now the two of you are the only ones that we can talk to that know what happened at the drive-in tonight,” explained Captain Davis.
“Have you gotten any news about Blair?” asked Natalie.
“Yes, actually I was just talking to a doctor,” replied Captain Davis, “She is hurt pretty bad. He has lost a lot of blood. They don’t think the stab wounds hit anything vital though, so that is good. They are going to do an exploratory surgery just to make sure that they have not missed anything though. She also has a couple of broken ribs, and a nasty cut over her right eye. That one will require several stitches to close it up. He said he would keep me posted. When I hear anything I’ll let you girls know. Now, what can you girls tell me about what happened tonight?”
“Well we don’t know too much,” replied Tootie.
“How did y’all find her at the drive-in? Did she leave a note or what?” asked Captain Davis.
“No, we figured that out, or rather Jo did. She remembered Blair telling her that Robert took her there sometimes to be alone. So on a hunch we tried it,” said Tootie.
“What made you girls start looking for her?” asked Captain Davis.
“Well, that’s where I come in,” interjected Natalie. “I saw her come in last night and she was just acting weird.”
“Weird how?” asked Captain Davis.
“Well, for example, Blair has always been a stickler for her appearance. Everything about Blair always had to be perfect. When she came in last night I noticed that her face was swollen. Now the Blair that I know would have been calling for somebody’s head on a silver platter, it wouldn’t have mattered if it was her fault or somebody else’s fault. But last night, when I noticed that it was swollen, she just blew it off coming up with a lame excuse saying that she had fallen and hit the side of her face on the ground. Then she said she was going to bed,” explained Natalie. “She usually loves bragging about her dates, but she just didn’t want to get into it at all. She snapped at me when I asked her some questions about her date.”
“What else?” asked Captain Davis?
“Well,” said Tootie, “the next morning, Jo told us that she had gotten up early this morning because she was going to meet some classmates at the coffee shop before class. She went go to the bathroom because Blair is NEVER up that early and Blair is already in there. Jo waited for an hour and a half on her. No telling how long she had been in there before that. When she finally came out, Jo noticed her face was swollen. Jo told us that she figured it was just from one of her face products so she didn't say anything to Blair. Blair got real paranoid when Jo was looking at her though.”
“When did Jo tell you that?” asked Captain Davis.
“Tonight when we all got to talking because I was so worried about Blair after what I found out today,” said Natalie.
“What did you find out today?” asked Captain Davis.
“A bunch” replied Natalie, “Sit down, this might take awhile.” Natalie told Captain Davis about the 3 newspaper articles she had found on Robert and what was in them. Then she told him about her conversation with Nancy and the other girls she had talked to who had all dated Robert. Then she told him what all Peter Knight, a friend of hers, had found out for her.
“Hey Nat you didn’t tell us about Peter,” said Tootie.
“I know, I didn’t have time to go this into detail,” said Natalie.
“I knew that name sounded familiar to me,” said Captain Davis, “I worked on that case 3 years ago. The girl, Nancy, got scared and withdrew all the charges. No I know why. I’ll have some of my men run his prints through the system, maybe he has a prior before he changed his name. In the meantime, finish telling me what happened tonight,” said Captain Davis.
Natalie and Tootie took turns filling Captain Davis in on what happened at the drive in.
“Okay girls, I appreciate all the help you have given us. I’ll check up on Mr. Masterson myself. I’m not going to let him get away with anything this time. You girls get some rest. Y’all have a rough night. Go home and get some sleep. I’m sure everything will be just fine. Come on, I’ll help you find Mrs. Garrett before I leave. The three of them walked out the door to go find Mrs. Garrett.

Mrs. Garrett found a phone and dialed Mrs. Polniaczek’s home phone number. The phone rang three time before the phone was answered.
“Hello?” answered Rose Polniaczek.
“Hello Rose, this is Edna Garett.”
“Oh, hi Edna. How are you doing today?” asked Rose.
“Well, to tell you the truth, not so good. I’m afraid I have some bad news. Jo is in the hospital. She was in a fight and then a car crash. She’s hurt pretty bad.”
“What?” exclaimed Rose, “What happened?”
“We’re still not exactly sure, the police are still trying to sort it out.”
“Is…is…is Jo…okay?” asked Rose hesitantly.
“I really don’t know Rose. We just arrived at the hospital ourselves,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“Well thank you for letting me know Edna. I’ll call Charlie and we’ll be down there tonight.”
“Okay, if you need anything just holler. We’ll be here at the hospital if you need to call us for anything,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“Thank you Edna. I appreciate it. I’ll see you tonight. Bye.”
“Bye,” said Mrs. Garrett hanging up the phone.
Mrs. Garrett turned around and saw Natalie, Tootie, and James all coming her way. Mrs. Garrett walked out to meet them.
“Did you get ahold of Mrs. Polniaczek?” asked Tootie.
“Yes Tootie, I just hung up from her. She is going to get ahold of Charlie, and then they’ll be down here tonight,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“That’s the same thing that Mrs. Warner said when I called her about,” Natalie looked at her watch, “about an hour ago.”
“Mrs. Garrett,” said James, “I really need to get going. These girls have given me several new leads to follow up on. I’ll be in touch. If you need me, call the office. They’ll know how to get in touch with me.”
“Okay James, and thank you for all of your help,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“It’s the least that I can do. I’ll be in touch,” said James heading for the exit.
Mrs. Garret turned towards the girls, “Come on girls, when did both of you eat last?”
“Eat, what’s that?” said Tootie looking at Mrs. Garrett.
“Come on girls, lets go to the cafeteria and get some dinner. I have a feeling this is going to be a long night,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“But what if Mr. and Mrs. Warner or Mr. and Mrs. Polniaczek show up while we are down there?” asked Tootie.
“Tootie, it takes more then five minutes to get down here from New York. The Warner’s will probably be here within the hour and the Polniaczek’s will be here in about two hours. I don’t think we will be at the cafeteria for that long,” said Natalie shaking her head, “You must be more tired then you thought.”
“Oh,” said Tootie sheepishly.
“Okay Mrs. G,” said Natalie, “Lets go so we can get back quickly.”
“Good,” said Mrs. Garrett, “We can fill each other in on what all has happened tonight.”
The three walked down to the cafeteria arm in arm talking the entire way.

Ags2000 10-02-2001, 01:43 PM Chapter 14
When they finished eating, Mrs. Garrett and the girls came back up to the waiting room. They found Linda standing there waiting for them.
“Hi Linda, any news yet?” asked Natalie.
“Actually yes, I just wanted to let you know that Jo is still in surgery, and that Blair is out of surgery," said Linda.
"Blair is out of surgery?" asked a voice from the other side of the room.
Mrs. Garrett, Natalie, and Tootie all looked up.
"Monica, you made it," said Mrs. Garrett. "Linda here was just about to give us an update on Blair and Jo's condition."
"Jo?" asked David, "What happened to Jo?"
"She was involved in all of this to," replied Natalie.
"The guy that did this to Blair attacked Jo and the two of them got into a fight so that we could get Blair out of there," continued Tootie.
"Oh no," said Monica, "Is she okay?"
"Linda was about to tell us all of that," said Mrs. Garrett, "Come on over here Monica and we can all hear her."
"Okay," said Monica sniffling.
"Anyway," Linda continued, "Blair is out of surgery but Jo is still in surgery. Blair has a lot of bruising on her. She has three broken ribs, thankfully they did not puncture her lungs or anything. The stab wounds to her side did no major damage either. They missed all vital organs. The doctors did explore them to make sure that there was no internal damage. She has a lot of stitches on her arms and face were she was slashed."
"Her face?" asked Monica horrified. "He…he slashed he face."
"Yes, he slashed her face," said Linda, "But she really doesn't have that much damage to it. There is no damage to her eyes, ears or nose and she has a small cut on the corner of her mouth. She has 28 stitches under her left eye and down her cheek. She also has 36 stitches above her right eye where we believe she hit her head on a wall or something because when we washed it out, we removed some concrete. Because of that injury, we believe that she may have a concussion, but we will have to wait until she wakes up to find that out. She really was lucky, a lot luckier then Jo. Jo was hurt a lot worse."
"How much worse?" asked Mrs. Garrett worriedly.
"Well, not only was she stabbed, but Jo was also in the car crash. The car crash caused more damage to her then the stab wounds. The good thing is that she DID have on her seat belt, otherwise she would not have made it. She hit her head on the steering wheel and was in and out of conciseness the entire way to the hospital. She had some internal bleeding from where the seat belt was on her as well as the bleeding from the stab wounds. She also dislocated her shoulder, broke her leg and four ribs. What has the doctors worried the most, is all the blood that she lost. She has already used 3 units of blood, and by the time the surgery is over, she will probably need a few more. She is in serious condition, but she should pull through this."
"Oh thank goodness," exclaimed Mrs. Garrett as Natalie and Tootie hugged each other in relief.
"By the way, were you able to locate Jo's parents?" asked Linda.
"Yes, I reached Mrs. Polniaczek and she was going to head strait down here as soon as she called Jo's father."
"Good, good," said Linda.
"BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!"
Linda looked down at her pager. "Good news, looks like Jo is out of surgery. I'll go check on her and see how she is doing and get you an update. Mr. and Mrs. Warner, if you will follow me, I will show you where Blair is."
"Thank you," said David, "Come on Monica. We'll be back later Edna, girls. Keep us updated on Jo okay?"
David and Monica Warner turn around and follow Linda out of the waiting room to go and see their daughter.
"Well, girls it looks like we are in for a long night. Why don't you both try to get some sleep? I'll stay awake and if anything happens I'll wake you up," said Mrs. Garrett.
"That’s okay, Mrs. G., I'm not really tired," said Natalie.
"Me neither," said Tootie, "I don't think I could sleep anyway, I just keep seeing Blair laying there with all of that blood all over the place."
"Oh Tootie, come here baby," said Mrs. Garrett opening her arms, "You to Natalie. I can only imagine what both of you saw when you found Blair, but remember this; Blair is fine. She is out of surgery, and she will recover. It may take a bit, but everything will be fine."
"Natalie!" came a voice from across the hall.
Natalie looked up surprised.
"Uncle Ron? What are you doing here? How did you know that I was here?" asked Natalie.
"Uncle Ron?" said Tootie, "Nat did YOU hit your head tonight? You don't have an Uncle Ron."
Natalie rolled her eyes as she hugged her Uncle Ron, "Tootie, do you remember last summer when I met a bunch of Ellen's family?"
"Yea, I WAS there you know," said Tootie.
"Well, this is Ellen's half-brother, they had the same mother. He couldn't make it to the reunion. He was out of the country at the time." Natalie turned back to her Uncle Ron; "You still haven't answered my questions yet."
"Well, it's not like you've given me the chance to," said Ron grinning, "After you talked with Peter today, he gave me a call and told me what was going on. I'd thought I'd slip on down here to see what was going on. When I got here I heard about a stabbing at a drive in. I took off over there and they told me that you were here at the hospital."
"The police usually don't tell strangers where people are when they don't know them from Adam," said Mrs. Garrett suspiciously, "Why did they tell you?" she asked.
Ron smiled, "It might have had something to do with this," he said pulling out an ID card that identified him as FBI
"Oh cool," exclaimed Tootie looking at the badge, "Nat, you didn't say that he was in the FBI"
"I guess it slipped my mind Tootie," said Natalie hugging Ron, "Uncle Ron, however you got here, I'm glad you did."
"So am I, especially after I talked to the police captain, are all of you okay?" asked Ron.
"Yes we're fine Uncle Ron, really we are. Just still kinda in shock I guess."
"Well, that’s okay Nat." Ron turned to Mrs. Garrett, "You must be Mrs. Garrett, I'm Ron Harrison."
"Oh, I'm sorry Mrs. Garrett. Mrs. G. this is my Uncle Ron. Uncle Ron, this is Mrs. Garrett," said Natalie, " and this is Tootie."
"It's nice to meet you Mrs. Garrett, Tootie," said Ron.
"It's nice to meet you too Ron. You can call me Edna," said Mrs. Garrett.
"Okay Nat, tell me everything that is going on here and start from the beginning," said Ron.
"Come on Tootie," said Mrs. Garrett, "Let's go get some fresh air and let them have some privacy."
"Sure thing Mrs. G. We'll be back Nat," said Tootie.
Tootie and Mrs. Garrett walked outside and ran into Rose and Charlie Polniaczek.
"Mr. and Mrs. Polniaczek, you made it," said Tootie.
"Yes," said Charlie, "How is Jo doing?"
"Have you heard anything?" asked Rose.
"Actually yes," said Mrs. Garrett, "The nurse just came out and told us that Jo just got out of surgery."
"Oh good," said Rose, "How is she?"
"Well, Linda told us that Jo hit her head on the steering wheel and was in and out of conciseness the entire way to the hospital. She also had some internal bleeding from both the car crash and the stab wounds."
"Stab wounds?" asked Charlie, "What type of fight was she in?"
"Well actually, she was attacked, after Blair was also attacked by the same man. Jo fought with him so that Natalie and Tootie could get Blair out of the area. Jo was trying to get away from the guy when she ran into the wall trying to miss him," explained Mrs. Garrett, "Between, those two, Jo lost a lot of blood. She also dislocated her shoulder, broke her leg, and broke four ribs. What had the doctors worried though, was all the blood that she lost. She has had at least 3 units of blood and probably has had more by now. Linda said that Jo is in serious condition, but she should pull through this."
"My God, how could something like this happen?" asked Rose.
"We don't know, the police are still looking into everything," said Mrs. Garrett.
"Can we see her?" asked Charlie.
"I'm sure they can take you to her, we just need to find a doctor. Come on we will help you," said Mrs. Garrett.
"Thank you Edna, for everything," said Rose.
The four of them walked off to find a doctor. About 10 minutes later Mrs. Garrett, Tootie, Rose and Charlie came back to the waiting room where Natalie and Ron were talking to James.
"The doctor said he would call us as soon as Jo got out of the recovery room," Charlie was explaining to Mrs. Garrett.
"That's really good Charlie." Edna looked towards the waiting room, "James, your back already?" asked Mrs. Garrett.
"Captain Davis was just giving us an update on what is going on with the investigation," said Natalie.
"Well, as I was saying, we are sending out Robert's photo to the different police departments around the state to see if anybody recognizes him. His finger prints would be a big help, but he is in surgery right now so we can't get them."
"What about the knife he had, doesn't that have his finger prints on it?" asked Tootie.
"My people are looking at it now. It looks like most of the prints are smudged though. I wish we had a clue of some sort as to his real identity," said James.
"James, I just remembered something," said Mrs. Garrett, "When I first went up to Jo, she was babbling on and on. I was just trying to calm her down, so I didn't worry too much about what she was saying at the time, but it was pretty strange."
"What was strange about it Mrs. Garrett?" asked James.
"Well when I went up to her she told me that she couldn't stop the car in time. She said she was trying to get out of there when all of a sudden Shane was in front of her."
"Shane, did you say Shane?" asked Rose.
"Yes, why?" asked Mrs. Garrett.
Rose turned toward Captain James, "May I see the picture you have been sending to the other police departments?" asked Rose with a shaky voice.
"Sure," said James pulling out the picture.
Rose and Charlie both looked at the picture and Rose gasped. "I know him!" exclaimed Rose in surprise.

Ags2000 10-09-2001, 02:58 PM Chapter 15
Linda led David and Monica upstairs to Blair's room. They walked into Blair's room and got the first look at their daughter. Monica gasped.
"Oh David, look at her face. Look what that monster did to her beautiful face," cried Monica.
"Monica, calm down. Her face can be fixed. Just be glad that our baby is alive," replied David.
Monica gazed at her daughter. Blair was still unconscious. She had several bandages on both of her arms as well as two large bandages on her face. Blair's face was also covered in bruises. Monica grabbed Blair's hand and started crying. David put his hand on Monica's shoulder and started crying himself.
"I promise," said David amid tears and seething mad, "the animal that did this WILL pay. If it's the last thing I do on this earth, he will pay dearly for doing this to my little princess."
Meanwhile
"How is he doing Linda?" asked the doctor.
"Well, he made it through the surgery just fine Dr. J. Although I must admit, there are a several people who will be sorry to hear that,” said Linda.
“Yes,” said Dr. J, “I’ve talked to some of them already. I talked to the police Captain and the Polniaczek’s.”
“Oh, you’ve spoken to Jo’s parents? I guess they finally made it here then.”
“Yes, an Edna Garrett was with them and they found me to ask some questions about their daughter. They were fit to be tied. Nice couple though. So, what all are the injuries to this guy anyway?” asked Dr. J.
“Well Jason, he has a broken nose, a broken arm and a shattered patella. I guarantee he isn’t going anywhere for a while. I told the doctor that I would give the Captain an update while he tries to track down some of this guy’s family. Of course, it would be easier if we knew his real name. I need to go find the Captain now to update him,” said Linda.
“How come you volunteered to go talk to the police Captain?” asked Jason, “Usually the doctor does that.”
Linda laughed, “I keep forgetting that you are new here. The police Captain is my husband James Davis.”
“Oh, I see now. I’ll come with you; I need to show the Polniaczek’s where their daughter’s room is anyway. I’m sure where we find one, we’ll find them all,” joked Jason.
Linda laughed, “Well come on Jason, I'll introduce the two of you properly. Let’s do this and then try to get some sleep before the media gets wind of this and shows up.”
“Good idea,” said Jason, “I’ll follow you.”
The two walked out of the lounge door together heading for the waiting room.
Ags2000 10-09-2001, 04:09 PM Chapter 16
“You know him?” asked an excited James, “How do you know him? What’s his name?”
“His name is Shane Roberts, and he is from the Bronx. I figured he would still be in prison after what he did,” said Rose.
“What did he do?” asked James.
“He killed a woman in cold blood and then tried to frame a little girl. I believe she was around 12 or something like that,” responded Ron.
Rose looked at him, “How do you know that?” she asked.
“My step-father was lead detective on the case,” responded Ron.
Rose looked up at Ron in shock, “Your step-father was Detective Sam Johnson? He saved my little girl’s life. If it weren’t for him, I don’t know what would have happened to Jo.”
“Uncle Ron, would you mind telling us what is going on here? I’m a bit confused,” said Natalie.
“Let me explain it,” said Rose. “A few years before I sent Jo to Eastland, Jo witnessed a horrible crime committed by Shane Roberts. Jo was in a little store when Shane and his gang came in. He shot the owner, Mrs. Hannigan, in the head and then tried to shoot Jo. Thankfully the gun jammed that time. Jo took off while Shane tried to un-jam his gun. He finally did get a shot off, and Jo was shot in the shoulder. Shane’s gang called the police after Jo left claiming that they had just heard shots coming from the store and saw a girl run out the back. They described Jo to the police. They arrested Jo when she was unconscious at the hospital. When she woke up, she had quite a shock. None of the police believed Jo except for one man, Detective Sam Jackson. He knew Jo’s wrap sheet forward and backwards and was convinced that this was NOT Jo’s style. He helped us prove that Jo was not involved and helped to free Jo. Our family never forgot that. After that, I knew I had to get Jo out of the neighborhood. When I finally got the chance, I sent her here to get away from the gangs, and Eddie.”
“Wow,” said Tootie, “I never knew that about Jo.”
“Yes, she never really talked about it much afterwards. I put her in counseling to help her through everything. I think that was the smartest thing I ever did,” said Rose, “besides trusting your step-father that is,” said Rose smiling at Ron.
“When did this occur?” asked James.
“In May of 1976,” replied Rose and Ron at the same time.
“Okay, I am going to the station and I am going to put in a call down to the Bronx to pull his file and send us a copy. Then I am going to get in touch with the prison he was sent to and find out why and when he was released. I’ll be in touch,” said James turning to leave. As James looked up, he saw Linda and a Dr. J. walking his way.
“Just the man I wanted to see,” said Linda smiling.
“Hi honey,” said James leaning down to give his wife a hug. “You just caught me, I was just about to head out to the station to work on some leads.”
“Well, I’m glad I found you before you left then. I needed to talk to you about our ‘mystery man’ and I wanted to introduce you to our new doctor. James this is Dr. Jason Jeckyle. Jason, this is my husband Captain James Davis,” said Linda.
“We’ve talked once, glad to know EXACTLY who you are,” joked Jason.
“Likewise Jason,” said James shaking his hand. I have a surprise for you Linda, our mystery man is a mystery no longer. We have a positive ID on him as one Shane Roberts,” said James.
“Good, you can tell me how you found that out later, I need to update you on his condition,” said Linda.
“Is he going to make it?” asked Tootie
“Yes, yes he will,” replied Linda.
“Darn!” said Natalie and Tootie at the same time. They looked at each other in shock as Mrs. Garrett whipped her face around towards them.
“GIRLS!” cried Mrs. Garrett.
“Well, it’s just that after what he did tonight,” started Tootie looking at Natalie.
“He just doesn’t deserve to live,” finished Natalie.
“Girls, I know how you feel,” said Mrs. Garrett, “But you should never hope that somebody dies.”
“We know Mrs. G., it’s just…” said Natalie.
“I understand girls. It has been a long day and everybody is tired,” Mrs. Garrett turned back to Linda, “What is his condition anyway?” she asked.
“Well,” started Linda, “He has a broken nose, a broken arm and a shattered patella. I can pretty much guarantee he isn’t going anywhere for a while with that knee.”
“Is he awake yet?” asked James.
“No, not yet, he has just been taken to the recovery room,” replied Linda.
“Good, I need to get some things done so that I can have an arrest warrant for him before he wakes up,” said James, “Tootie, Natalie, can I ask both of you to come with me. I really want to get your official statements since you two are the only ones awake that saw what happened.”
“Sure thing Captain,” said Tootie and Natalie at the same time.
“How about if I bring them to the station after I take them by the house so they can get some real clothes on,” interjected Ron.
“That sounds like a good idea,” said James, “By the time you get there, I will have it all set up. I’ll see you two in a few minutes,” he said to Natalie and Tootie, “And I’ll see you later,” he said to Linda leaning over to give her a kiss.
James walked to the exit in a hurry. He had a lot to do in a short amount of time.
Ron looked at Natalie and Tootie, “Well girls, what do you say we head on over to the house now so you can change?”
“Sounds good to me,” said Tootie.
“Me too Uncle Ron,” piped up Tootie.
“If you will follow me,” said Jason to the Polniaczek’s, “I’ll show you to Jo’s room. She has not woken up yet though, that might take some time.”
“Edna, I hate to leave you alone,” said Rose.
“Oh, it’s okay. I’ll just wait for the Warner’s to bring down some news on Blair. I’m sure they will soon.”
“If you’re sure Edna,” said Rose.
“Of course, of course, go. Go check on Jo and let me know how she id doing. I’ll be fine here, you should be with your daughter,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“Okay Edna, one of us will be down soon to let you know about Jo,” replied Rose.
“I know, now you two scat. Go check on your daughter,” said Mrs. Garrett.
Mrs. Garrett watched as the Polniaczek’s and Natalie, Tootie, and Ron all left together. With nothing else to do, Mrs. Garrett sat down to wait out the longest night of her life.
Ags2000 10-11-2001, 12:05 PM Chapter 17
The doctor led Rose and Charlie to the room where Jo was. He stopped before opening the door, “I want you to be prepared for what you are going to see in there,” Dr. J. stated, “Your daughter has bandages on her face, arms, legs, chest, and stomach. She is also hooked up to a lot of machines so don’t be frightened by what you see. All of the machines are there to help her, just remember that.”
Rose took a deep breath and looked at the doctor, “We’re ready.”
The doctor nodded his head and opened the door. What the Polniaczeks saw surprised them.
“Mr. and Mrs. Warner?” asked Charlie.
David and Monica turned around at the sound of their names and were shocked to see the Polniaczeks standing there.
“Mr. and Mrs. Polniaczek, what a surprise to see you,” said David getting up to shake Charlie’s hand.
“What are…oh that must have been Jo that they just brought in a few minutes ago. How is she doing,” Monica asked as she hugged Rose.
“Well, she’s alive. That’s saying something,” said Charlie.
“How’s Blair doing?” asked Rose.
“She’s hanging in there,” replied Monica, “I’m just glad both girls are alive after what that monster did to them.”
“Yes,” said Rose, “they were both lucky. With them being so close together here, they can draw strength from each other.”
“Well, don’t let us keep you from seeing your daughter. We can talk later,” said David.
The Warner’s and the Polniaczek’s said their good byes and the Polniaczek’s went to the next bed and pulled aside the curtain. Even though they were prepared for the worst, Rose still gasped when she first saw her daughter lying there. The once spunky and vivacious brunette lay lifeless on the hospital with machines hooked up to her body that seemed to all be covered in bandages. Jo had numerous bandages on her right arm and a cast on her left arm where she had broken it during the car wreck. She also had a big bandage around the top of her head that already had a bloodstain on it. She was also hooked up to numerous machines.
Rose looked around at the different machines. There was one monitoring her heart, one taking her blood pressure, other machines that Rose had no idea what they were doing, and of course the machines that controlled the I.V. drip. Rose was just horrified. She sat down next to her daughter and started to cry.

You are an incredible writer! Even though you may not think so, I think that you are as good as the person who's writing "Black Diamond" (can't remember her name right now). Don't worry how the story will end, you'll figure it out. Some of the best writers don't always know how thier stories will end. I can't wait until your next chapters.

Thank you triple19. I really appreciate it.
By the way, the person who is writing Black Diamond is Devon King I believe.
Ags2000 10-12-2001, 12:26 AM Chapter 18
Natalie and Tootie were both about to fall asleep. It felt like they had been at the police station for hours. They had answered questions not only from Captain Davis, but from other police officers as well. Natalie and Tootie both identified Shane Roberts as the man that Blair had been dating and the man who had jumped Jo while they were trying to help Blair. Now, after all of that, they were just waiting on the judge. Natalie and Tootie had just finished telling their story and the judge was going to make his decision on the arrest warrant.
Ron walked into the room and gave each girl a cup of hot tea. “Here, drink this. It should help you from falling asleep.”
Natalie yawned as she reached for her cup, “What time is it Uncle Ron?”
Ron looked at his watch, “It’s a little after 5 am.”
“Ohhh, did you have to tell us?” asked Tootie yawning.
Ron laughed, “We can leave now girls. The judge has just issued an arrest warrant for Shane and James is about to leave to place him under arrest. Come on, I’ll take you home.”
“Home?” said Natalie and Tootie at the same time.
“We’re not going home Uncle Ron,” said Natalie.
“But both of you are SO tired. You need to sleep,” explained Ron.
“Maybe so, but everybody is still at the hospital. We’re going back there,” stated Tootie firmly.
“There’s nothing I can say to change your minds huh? Well, okay. I’ll take you back to the hospital. Lets go. We can follow James back to the hospital.”
The three got up and headed for the door to leave the room together. They met James as they were walking out of the room.
“You girls did a GREAT job tonight. I don’t know what we would’ve done without your help in this case. I have the arrest warrant and I am taking these two, Officers Baker and Poncherello, with me to place him under arrest right now.”
“That’s good to hear Captain. We are on our way back over there ourselves,” said Natalie.
“Yea, we want to know how everybody is doing,” said Tootie.
“Well, why don’t y’all just follow me to the hospital then,” asked James.
“We appreciate that, we will thanks,” replied Ron. He looked at Natalie and Tootie, “Are you ready?”
“Yes!” replied both at the same time. They looked at each other and smiled.
Natalie and Tootie finished their tea and threw away their cups as they were walking out of the police station with Ron right behind them.
“Man, I can’t believe we were there for that long,” said Natalie.
“I know, we weren’t even there that long when we were arrested a couple years back,” commented Tootie.
“Arrested?” exclaimed Ron, “What on earth were you arrested for?”
“It’s a LONG story Uncle Ron,” said Natalie.
“That’s okay, we have ALL night,” replied Ron grinning.
They got into the car as Natalie started telling Ron the story about how they stole the school van, hot wired it, and then got arrested in the Chug-A-Lug Bar.

CHiP's was a action-adventure show about the the lives of the people on the California Highway Patrol. It originaly aired on NBC in the late 70's-early 80's. Erik Estrada (Officer Poncherello) and Larry Wilcox (0fficer Baker) were the stars of the show.

I rememeber the show, AGS 2000. It was a cool idea to do a mini-crossover. Will Offcers Poncerello and Baker be making a cameo in your story? Give it some thought.

Ags2000 11-07-2001, 02:46 AM Just wanted to say that I haven't forgotten about this story http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif
Things have gotten hectic this past month. The professors have been piling the work on left and right. And with it being near the end of the semester, presentations are starting up.
Anyway, I have been working on it, I just haven't posted. I have 1 other chapter written already. I am going out of town this weekend and I plan on working on the story while I am on the plane to and from this weekend. Hopefully I will be able to post at least 1 chapter next week. I'll try my hardest to get at least 1 chapter typed up.

Ags2000 11-08-2001, 03:06 PM I know alot of you have been patiently waiting for an update to this story, so here is the next chapter.
Chapter 19
David turned to Monica, “Monica dear, I’m going to go downstairs and let Edna know how everybody is doing. Do you want some coffee while I am downstairs?”
“Yes, that sounds good David thank you.”
“Okay, I’ll be right back,” he told Monica. David left and made his way to the waiting room where he found Mrs. Garrett fast asleep in one of the chairs. He looked at his watch. It was almost 6am. He didn’t blame Mrs. Garrett one bit for falling asleep. He was so tired himself. He knew that if he sat down, he would doze off as well.
David reached down and shook Mrs. Garrett. “Edna, Edna wake up,” said David as he gently shook Mrs. Garrett.
Mrs. Garrett’s eyes suddenly popped open. It took her just a few seconds to remember where she was. “How’s Blair?” she asked.
David smiled as he sat down next to her, “Well she still has not woken up yet and she was cut up pretty bad, but the doctors say that she will be fine. The doctors expect her to sleep for awhile because she has so many different drugs in her system. They said it is probably better this way because she is so weak anyway.”
“Well I guess that is good then,” replies Mrs. Garrett yawning.
David smiled, how about I buy you a cup of coffee while we talk?” asked David.
“Oh, that sounds wonderful,” said Mrs. Garrett standing up and stretching.
David stood up as well and they started walking to the little shop in the hospital that was open 24 hours and served coffee when they ran into Ron, Natalie, and Tootie.
“Hahaha, you actually poured the pitcher of beer on his head Tootie. That must have been a riot,” Ron shook was head while laughing, “I would’ve loved to have been a fly on the wall and seen that.”
Natalie looked up, “Hi Mrs. Garrett. Hi Mr. Warner. How are Jo and Blair doing?”
“They are both doing just fine Natalie,” replied David. I just came from up there. We are about to catch a cup of coffee. Why don’t you all join us and tell us what happened at the police station.”
“Sounds good to me,” said Tootie following Mrs. Garrett out of the room.
The five of them made their way down to the little shop and all got something to drink then sat down to talk.
“So what’s going on here?” asked Natalie.
“I think David can answer better then I can. I’ve been asleep in the waiting room for a bit.”
“Well, both Blair and Jo are out of surgery, though neither one has woken up yet,” said David. “Blair hasn’t yet because of all the medication she is under. Jo hasn’t yet because of her injuries. They are both up in the ICU. Infact, their beds are side by side. There’s not much else we can do tonight. The girls are just going to be sleeping.”
“So what happened at the police station?” asked Mrs. Garrett taking a sip from her coffee.
“Well when we got there, they put us in two different rooms so that they could take our official statements,” said Tootie.
“After that, they put us in the same room and then people started coming in asking us all sorts of questions about Robert, I mean Shane. Man this is confusing.”
“Anyway, Captain Davis came in first and basically had us go step-by-step over our statements and then asked us to describe the guy who had jumped Jo,” said Tootie.
“We, of course, both said that it was Blair’s boyfriend and picked his photo out of a photo line-up,” said Natalie.
“Then the judge showed up,” continued Tootie, “and we had to start ALL over again.”
“When he finally finished asking us questions,” said Natalie, “the judge went outside and talked with Captain Davis some more. They were looking over some papers. Then Uncle Ron finally came in and told us we could go.”
“Yea,” interjected Tootie, “The judge had issued an arrest warrant for Shane and they came over here at the same time we did to place him under arrest for Jo’s attack and suspicion of Blair’s attack.”
“Now that is good news,” said David standing up. “Listen, I’m going back upstairs now. I told everyone I would bring some coffee up. Why don’t all of you go on home and come back tomorrow. The girls aren’t going anywhere and all of you need some sleep. You have all had a rough day, especially you two,” he said looking at Natalie and Tootie.
“But,” started Natalie and Tootie at the same time.
“I agree girls. We are all tired. We’ll be back first thing in the morning,” said Mrs. Garrett.
Tootie looked at her watch and grinned, “It is morning Mrs. G. It’s 7 o’clock”
“It is?” said David, “I had better get on up there with the coffee then. They’ll be wondering what happened to me. You all decide what to do and just let us know. We’ll be up there. Oh by the way, ICU is on the 6th floor.”
David bought four coffee’s to go and then headed back up to the 6th floor.
“I really think that you girls need some sleep,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“We’re not tired,” said Natalie stifling a yawn.
Ron laughed, “How about if we settle on getting breakfast down in the cafeteria. It opens at 7 am so it should already be open. After that, we can decide what to do. I’ll go upstairs and tell them. I’ll ask if they want to come with us as well. I’ll meet all of you down in the cafeteria okay?” said Ron.
“Sounds like a plan,” said Mrs. Garrett leading the girls away. “We’ll see you in a few minutes.”
After the girls left, Ron headed to the elevator and pressed the button that said 6th floor. When he reached the 6th floor and got off. Ron looked around and saw several police officers standing around one room. Ah, he thought, that must be Shane’s room.
Ron walked down to the nurse’s station. A nurse looked up at him.
“May I help you sir?” she asked.
“Yes, I need to talk to either the Warner’s or the Polniaczeks. They are both up here with their daughters.”
The nurse looked him up and down, “And you are?” she asked.
Ron rolled his eyes, “My name is Ron Harrison I’m here with them. Look I just want to know if they want to come eat some breakfast with us.”
The nurse got up, “I’ll go and ask them for you,” she said.
“Thank you,” replied Ron. He watched her as she walked into the room and tapped David on the shoulder. David turned around and smiled. He said something to the nurse and the nurse came back out and told Ron that he could go on in.
“What did you say to her?” Ron asked David.
David laughed, “I told her the truth, I told her you were an FBI agent. It didn’t matter what the subject was, you needed to be in here.”
Ron laughed, “We are going to get some breakfast in the cafeteria and wanted to know if you all wanted to come and eat."
"That sounds like a good idea. We all need a break. I'll get everybody and we will meet all of you downstairs in the cafeteria," said David.
Ron agreed and left the room. On his way to the elevator, Ron stopped to talk to Captain Davis.
“Is he awake yet?” asked Ron.
James grinned, “He just woke up a few minutes ago and was fit to be tied. He demanded that we release him this instant. I laughed as I read him his rights and the charges against him. He hasn’t said a word since then except to demand to speak to his lawyer. I told him sure, just as soon as we booked him.”
“I bet he didn’t like that too much,” commented Ron.
“Oh no, especially after I told him that the doctor said he was stable enough that we could move him to the jail’s hospital later today,” replied James.
“That’s good to hear. I’ll let the girls know if you don’t mind,” said Ron.
“That’s fine, that’s fine,” said James, “How are they doing?”
“They’re bound to be tired, but they refuse to go leave until they are sure that Blair and Jo will be fine,” said Ron.
“I wish I had some friends that good to me,” said James, “They are some true friends right there.”
“Yea,” agreed James looking at his watch. “Well, I need to head on down to the cafeteria. Everybody is downstairs eating some breakfast. I’ll talk to you later Captain.”
“I’m sure we will Special Agent Harrison,” replied James smiling.
The two men shook hands and Ron went on down to the cafeteria. When he got down there, he found that the Warner’s and Polniaczek’s were already down there, so he filled everybody in on his conversation with James.
“Oh that is wonderful news,” said Monica.
“I hope they keep him locked up this time,” remarked Rose. “I still can’t believe they let him out just because he had turned 18 and because he had been acting good.”
“Yes, well there’s not much we can do about that,” remarked David, “but we can sure make certain that he STAYS in prison this time.”
“Oh girls,” said Charlie turning to Natalie and Tootie, “We’ve gotten permission for the two of you to go and see Jo and Blair for a few minutes.”
“Really? Gee thanks,” said Tootie standing up.
“Can we go and see them now?” asked Natalie.
“Yes,” replied David, “You girls go on up.”
“Mrs. Garrett, do you want to come with us?” asked Tootie.
“Sure Tootie, I’ll come with both of you,” said Mrs. Garrett.
The three of them went upstairs and into Blair and Jo’s room. The girls were shocked at what they saw. Blair and Jo both looked so battered, so beaten, so lifeless. The girls pulled over a couple of chairs and just sat in between the beds in disbelief.
“I still can’t believe what all has happened in the past 12 hours,” commented Tootie.
“I should have done something sooner. If I would have, none of this would have happened,” said Natalie starting to cry.
Mrs. Garrett walked over to Natalie. “Natalie, Natalie look at me.”
Natalie looked up at Mrs. Garrett with tears streaming down her face.
“None of this is your fault Natalie,” said Mrs. Garrett with sincerity.
“But,” interrupted Natalie.
“No buts Natalie. You just sit there and listen to me, both of you.” Said Mrs. Garrett looking over at Tootie. “What Robert did to Blair and Jo was, and is, terrible. No questions there, but you can’t blame yourselves for what happened. The three of you girls probably saved Blair’s life, and that’s because of your journalistic skills Natalie. If you three didn’t show up when you did, who knows what would’ve happened to Blair.”
“But Mrs. Garrett,” said Natalie crying, “because of me, both Blair AND Jo are in the hospital.”
“No Natalie, they are not on the hospital because of you. They are both in the hospital because of ROBERT. He is the ONLY one to blame in all of this. I know this has really got to be hard on both of you, but you can’t let this eat at you. You girls did everything in your power that you could to save both Blair and then Jo. I don’t see anything else that you could have done,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“I should have tried to talk to Blair though Mrs. Garrett,” said Natalie.
“When?” asked Mrs. Garrett, “She left early in the morning before you came downstairs for school. You never saw her until the three of you found her. How could you have talked to her if you never even saw her Natalie. Think about it. All you are doing is eating yourself up over all of this. If you do that, then he wins,” said Mrs. Garrett.
“I guess your right Mrs. G. I couldn’t have talked to Blair yesterday,” said Natalie.
“Girls, listen to me,” said Mrs. Garrett, “What happened last night did not just affect Blair and Jo, it affected everybody involved including you two. I can only imagine what it was finding Blair like she was and trying to stop the bleeding Natalie. And Tootie, what you must have thought when you saw Robert standing over Jo with that knife. You girls were SO strong last night and this morning. I don’t know if I could have been as strong as the two of you have been throughout this whole thing at your age.”
“You really mean it Mrs. G.,” asked Tootie looking up.
“Or are you just saying that to make us feel better,” asked Natalie.
“Scouts honor,” said Mrs. Garrett holding up her right hand.
Natalie and Tootie both smiled.
Mrs. Garrett looked at Natalie and Tootie, “Come on girls, lets go home and get some sleep. We ALL need some,” said Mrs. Garrett cutting off Natalie and Tootie before either one could object.
“Okay,” said Natalie standing up and yawning.
“I guess I am a bit tired,” admitted Tootie.
“So am I,” said Mrs. Garrett.
The three of them got up and headed for the door. Natalie and Tootie walked out the door in front of Mrs. Garrett. Mrs. Garrett waited until Natalie and Tootie had walked out of the door then she turned back around to face Blair and Jo. “Oh my poor girls. Stay strong girls, stay strong,” said Mrs. Garrett wiping tears from her eyes as he walked out the door.

Ags2000 12-10-2001, 02:23 PM Chapter 20
1 week later
Natalie and Tootie came rushing in the front door. They both threw down their jackets as they entered the house.
“Hurry up Tootie, we’re gonna leave in 10 minutes for the hospital,” said Natalie running up the stairs to change out of the school uniform into something more comfortable.
Tootie was right at her heels, “I’m right behind you Nat. You don’t have to yell,” said Tootie.
“What’s all this noise?” asked Mrs. Garrett coming in from the store. “Oh, I see,” said Mrs. Garrett watching as Natalie and Tootie turned the corner at the top of the stairs. “It’s the ‘Home from school, have to go up and change real quick so we can get to the hospital’ stampede,’” commented Mrs. Garrett shaking her head.
A few minutes later, Natalie and Tootie came back down the stairs.
“Any news Mrs. G.?” asked Natalie.
“I’m sorry girls, there was no change in either of their conditions when I was at the hospital earlier today,” responded Mrs. Garrett. “Oh by the way, the Polniaczek's and Warner’s are going to be coming back here for some rest after you girls arrive today. Oh, and Natalie, your Uncle said to tell you he should be back here tomorrow, he was called into the office to handle a case.”
“Okay thanks Mrs. G.,” said Natalie walking toward the door.
“We’ll see you later Mrs. Garrett. Bye,” said Tootie walking out the door behind Natalie and grabbing their jackets.
“Hi Linda,” said Natalie and Tootie walking up to the nurses station at the hospital a little bit later.
Linda looked up from the chart she was looking over, “Well hello there girls. Out of school already huh? So how was school today?”
“Pretty good,” said Tootie.
“Yeah, everybody is asking about Blair and Jo everyday. So any change?” asked Natalie.
“I’m sorry girls,” said Linda shaking her head, “there’s been no change in either of them. They are both still in a coma”
“Why have they been out for so long? I figured they would be up by now,” said Tootie.
“Well Tootie, with head injuries it’s always hard to tell. In this case, it’s just the body’s way of helping to heal itself. I’m sure that they will wake up soon girls,” said Linda smiling down at Tootie.
“Yeah, I guess,” said Tootie sighing as she followed Natalie into the room.
“Hi Mr. and Mrs. Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Polniaczek,” said Natalie walking into the room.
“Hi girls, are we glad you’re here,” said Rose standing up and stretching.
“Mrs. Garrett told us that all of you are going to go back to the house for some well deserved rest,” said Tootie.
“I don’t know about well deserved, but it is definitely well needed,” said Monica yawning.
The four adults collected their belongings, told Natalie and Tootie goodbye, and left for Mrs. Garrett’s house to get some sleep. After they left, Natalie and Tootie started their routine. They would pull two chairs up between the two beds and start telling Blair and Jo about what was happening at Eastland and the store. They always started with people who had asked about them and then ended with the gossip. Natalie and Tootie settled in and started talking.

Chapter 21
“Eastland…Trisha…play…fell…laughing,” what was that Blair thought groggily? It sounds like somebody is trying to say something, but they are skipping words so it doesn’t make any sense. I need to concentrate, she thought. Blair started listening more intently now, trying to figure out who was talking and what they were saying.
She felt so out of it, like she was wrapped in a blanket of fog. Blair slowly opened her eyes, everything was blurry so she blinked a couple of time. Blair could make out a few objects around her. She saw a door to her right, a television in front of her and another bed out of the corner of her eye. Blair turned her head to look at the other bed and discovered who it was that had been talking earlier. “Tootie, Natalie,” whispered Blair.
Natalie and Tootie stopped talking at once and turned quickly towards Blair.
“Oh my God!” exclaimed Natalie.
“Blair, you’re finally awake!” exclaimed Tootie.
“You had us worried for a little while there Blair. Welcome back to the land of the living,” said Natalie smiling.
“How did I get here?” asked Blair quietly.
The door to the room opened about that time and the three girls looked up, “Natalie, Tootie, they are getting ready to serve…” said Linda walking into the room, “Oh, Ms. Warner, you’re awake. How are you feeling?”
“Confused,” said Blair looking around, “Why am I in the hospital?”
“You were attacked Blair. Do you remember that?” asked Natalie.
As soon as Natalie said that, the memories came flooding back to Blair. Robert was standing over her as she tried in vain to fight him off. Blair started sobbing uncontrollably. Natalie and Tootie were instantly at Blair’s side comforting her.
“I…I couldn’t stop him,” sobbed Blair, “I tried, really I did, but I just couldn’t hold him off, he had a…a knife,” said Blair with tears streaming down her face.
“It’s okay Blair, he can’t hurt you anymore,” said Natalie.
“Yeah, his butt’s in the pokey with smokey,” said Tootie smiling. “We were able to identify him as the attacker and the police arrested him.”
“How were you able to identify him?” asked Blair confused. “Neither of you were there when Robert attacked me,” said Blair.
“Oh, no, we saw him attack Jo,” said Tootie.
“Jo? What’s wrong with Jo?” asked Blair sitting up a little to quickly and wincing. “Oooh.”
“Uh, that’s right, you don’t know about Jo,” said Tootie looking at Natalie.
“No I don’t, now what happened to Jo?” asked Blair.
Natalie and Tootie looked at each other.
“One of you had better tell me what is going on,” demanded Blair in a whisper.
“Um, well,” began Natalie, “When we tracked you down to the old drive in.”
“You guys found me there?” asked Blair, “How did you figure it out?”
“Actually, it was Jo’s idea,” said Tootie, “She said you had mentioned he had taken you there before. We figured it was a good place to start as any.”
“Wow,” said Blair, “I guess I have you guys to thank for saving me, but I still don’t understand how Jo got hurt.”
“Well,” said Tootie, “Your boyfriend was still there. While we were trying to stop your bleeding, he came up behind Jo and tried to stab her.”
“Oh no!” exclaimed Blair, “I can’t believe he went after you guys,” said Blair.
“But that’s just it,” said Natalie, “he didn’t come after us, just Jo.”
“I wonder why?” said Blair wincing as she changed positions.
“We’ll get to that in a minute,” said Natalie, “Anyway, Jo and he started fighting and Jo told us to get out of there with you. She said she would hold him off until we got you out of there, then she would follow us in your car after the cops arrived."
Picking up the story, Tootie continued, "Well, something happened because when Mrs. G. and the police arrived Jo and him were both hurt."
"What happened?" asked Blair.
"There had been some kind of car wreck and Jo ended up hitting you boyfriend with your car and then crashing it into a wall," answered Natalie.
"EX boyfriend," Blair corrected Natalie, "I broke up with him before he did this to me."
"Good for you Blair," said Natalie.
"Anyway, Nat found out that Robert's name wasn't really Robert after all, so the cop in charge of the case was putting his picture out and about hoping to find out his real identity. He just happened to have it when Jo's parents showed up and Jo's mom recognized him. His real name is Shane Roberts. Shane did something that Jo saw and testified against him. He ended up being found guilty and was sent to prison for it," said Tootie.
"You mean his name is NOT Robert Michael Masterson III," asked Blair.
"That's right Blair," said Natalie, "We think he stole the identity and has been looking for Jo since he got out of prison."
'And I led him right to her. Where is she? I need to talk with her," said Blair.
"She's right here," said Tootie moving aside so Blair could see Jo laying in the bed that Blair had seen out of the corner of her eye earlier.
Blair turned to her left and gasped, "Oh my…" said Blair trailing off as she covered her mouth. Blair could not believe what she saw.

Ags2000 02-05-2002, 05:30 PM Chapter 21 (Part 2) Cont.
Blair turned to her left and gasped, "Oh my…" said Blair trailing off as she covered her mouth. Blair could not believe what she saw.
The once spunky young woman, who had always been a thorn in her side, lay motionless on the hospital bed hooked up to several machines and Jo had an IV in her hand. There was a machine monitoring her heart and a machine that kept taking her blood pressure and pulse, much like the machine she was hooked up to. The top of Jo’s head was bandaged and Blair could see a blood stain on it. She also had a bandage directly over her right eye. Jo’s left arm was in a sling and her right arm was covered in bandages. This couldn’t be Jo thought Blair, Jo would never let anyone do this to her. Jo was always the one handing out the punches.
“It’s okay Blair, she really IS doing better. You were both touch and go there for a bit, but the doctors say she will pull through just fine,” said Natalie.
“Really Blair, the doctors expect her to wake up anytime now, just like you just did,” said Tootie.
Just then, the door opened again and Dr. J. walked in.
“Good evening ladies. I hear we had some good news tonight,” he said looking at Blair.
“We sure did Dr. J.,” replied Tootie grinning.
“Would you girls mind waiting outside real quick while I examine and talk with Ms. Warner,” said Dr. J.
“Sure thing Dr. J.,” said Natalie standing up, “We’ll be back in a few minutes Blair.”
Blair watched as Tootie and Natalie left the room, then she turned toward the doctor.
“My name is Dr. Jason Jekyll, but everybody calls me Dr. J. How are you felling Ms. Warner?” asked Dr. J.
“I feel like I’ve been trampled over by a stampede at Bloomies during a Christmas sale,” Blair replied.
Dr. J. chuckled, “I’ll take your word for that,” he said grinning, “I’m not much of a shopper. Well, let me give you a quick examination and I can answer any questions you have.”
“How long have I been here?” asked Blair as Dr. J. began to examine her.
“You have been here for a week,” said Dr. J. looking over Blair’s stitches.
“A week! I’ve been out for a week?” asked a stunned Blair.
“Yes ma’am you have,” said Dr. J., “You were pretty lucky though. You had lost a lot of blood. Your friends brought you in just in time. You have bruises all over your arms, face and back. You also have 3 broken ribs, so it will probably hurt to breath and move for several more weeks. The ribs did not puncture your lungs, so on that aspect, you were very lucky. You were also pretty lucky with the knife wounds as well. The stab to your side did no internal damage; there was just a lot of bleeding because he nicked a vein. We performed surgery to fix that. The slashes on your arms and face were mostly superficial. None of them were very deep, we just cleaned them all out and stitched them up. Most of them should not leave any marks. We’ll just have to wait and see whether they will or not, but it can always be fixed with plastic surgery. We ended up putting 28 stitches under your left eye and 36 stitches above your left eye. You also had hit your head pretty hard. We found several pieces of concrete in the cut. All in all, you were a pretty lucky girl. I’m sure you don’t feel it, but you were. The swelling around your face is almost gone now. You are doing very well. Now that you have woken up, we can begin the healing process and move on,” said Dr J. smiling at Blair.
“What about Jo?” asked Blair with concern in her voice, “What’s wrong with her, why hasn’t she woken up yet?”
“Well, from what I’ve been told,” said Dr. J., “your friend is quiet the heroine. The guy that attacked you showed up while your friends were helping you. Jo and he got into a fight while Natalie and Tootie got you out of there. He did end up stabbing Jo, but her stab wound was not that bad. Where she got most of her injuries was the car wreck. She crashed into a wall pretty hard. She hit her head pretty hard, broke her leg and dislocated her shoulder.”
Blair looked over at Jo with tears in her eyes, “I did this to her. After everything she did for me, look how I repay her,” whispered Blair.
“What?” asked Dr. J.
Blair wiped the tears from her eyes, “May I have a few minutes by myself please?” Blair asked Dr. J.
Dr. J. smiled, “Sure thing. I’ll tell your friends to give you a few minutes.”
Blair watched Dr. J. walk out of the room then she turned and looked at Jo.

Chapter 21 cont.
Blair watched as the doctor left the room then turned slowly to get another good look at Jo. The once spunky young woman that was always the thorn in her side lay lifeless on the hospital bed. Blair couldn’t believe her eyes. This couldn’t be Jo. Jo wouldn’t let anybody do this to her. Jo was always the one handing out the punches.
Blair sat up very slowly and was in immediate pain, “Oooh,” said Blair quietly while she clutched her side. She took a couple of deep breaths then slowly put her legs over the side of the bed. Very slowly Blair stood up. Immediately she felt weak. Blair closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. She took the few steps she had to in order to reach the side of Jo’s bed and sit in the chairs that Natalie and Tootie had been using. Blair sat down in the chair closest to Jo’s bed.
Blair reached out to hold onto Jo’s hand and she started crying. “Oh, Jo, this is all my fault,” she said, “I never should have agreed to meet him that night. What was I thinking? Come on Jo, you’ve got to pull through this. I…I just don’t know what I’d do without you there to annoy me Jo. You’ve always been there through thick and thin, I just can’t imagine going through everything I have without you there to help me get through it all. Jo, this is all my fault. I’m so sorry you got drug into all of this. I should have come to you guys earlier about what he had been doing to me. I can’t believe I could be that stupid again. How could I have agreed to him…I so sorry Jo. I promise, on my Bloomies charge card, I will not go out with another guy until Robert…uh…I mean Shane, whatever his name is, is brought to justice for what he did to us.”
“No guys huh,” said a weak voice, “Can I get that in writing?”
“JO! But…but…I thought you were in a coma,” said Blair with a shocked look on her face.
“How could a person sleep with you yapping on and on like you were,” said Jo with a smile on her face.
“Oh Jo!” exclaimed Blair squeezing Jo’s hand, “You have no idea how glad I am to hear your voice and know that you are awake.”
“I’m glad to see that YOU are okay,” said Jo looking around her, “The last time I saw you, you were bleeding all over the place. Hey Blair, how did I get here and how did you figure out Shane’s name? And where is he anyway?”
Blair started laughing, “One question at a time Jo. Let’s see,” Blair started just as the door to their room opened. Blair and Jo looked towards the door and saw Natalie and Tootie coming in the door.
“Blair! What are you doing out of bed. You shouldn’t,” Natalie stopped in mid-sentence, “Jo, You’re awake!” she exclaimed as she and Tootie rushed to her bedside.
“Oh Jo, this is so great!” said Tootie, “How are you feeling?”
“I feel like I’ve been in a fight and a car wreck. How do you think I feel?” asked Jo sarcastically. “Now I’ve got a stupid question for you guys. How did I get here?”
“Tell you what, Blair you get back into bed and Tootie and I will tell you both what has happened since that Friday,” said Natalie stepping over to Blair to help her get back into bed.
It took several minutes for Natalie and Tootie to get Blair settled. Then they sat down and told them everything that had happened starting with arriving at the hospital and ending with that day. Blair and Jo were quiet for several minutes as they absorbed all that was just told to them.
“I guess you guys deserve an explanation as to why Shane hates me so,” said Jo quietly.
Blair turned her head towards Jo, “Jo you don’t have to.”
“Yes I do Blair. You know most of it but they don’t know anything. This creep affected them too. They deserve to know why and you deserve the entire story,” said Jo.
Jo was quiet for a moment as she thought about where to start. Finally she just started telling them about Jessie and herself skipping school and she witnessing the murder. Jo told about how she was originally arrested and later released and finally about her testifying at the trial.
“Wow!” exclaimed Tootie when Jo finished her story.
“After what your mom told us I figured it was something bad, but not that bad,” commented Natalie.
Everyone had been quiet for a little while when Blair finally spoke up, “I guess it’s my turn for story time. First off, I owe all of you an apology. I haven’t been telling all of you the complete truth these last few months and I should hive. If I did, none of this would have ever happened.”
“You don’t know that Blair,” said Natalie.
“Yes I do Natalie,” said Blair firmly. “If I would have come to all of you the first time he hit me, it would have never gone this far.”
Blair took a deep breath while she collected her thoughts and decided where to begin her story. “I first met Rob…I mean Shane, several months ago at the County Club. We talked several times and I thought he was pretty cute, but at that time he was with somebody and I was with somebody, so it didn’t go anywhere. About a week later I was working in the store alone and he came in with a dozen roses and asked me out to dinner. I asked Nat to close the store for me and we went out that night. We had a great time he was truly a gentleman. Well, he was for about two weeks anyway. We were coming back one night and you were minding the store Jo. He stopped and asked me who you were. I told him it wouldn’t be anyone he knew because you were from the Bronx. I told him what your name was and that you were one of my roommates. He said he had to go then and he left. I figured he just didn’t associate with people of lower class.”
“Then why was he with you?” interrupted Jo grinning.
“Oh shut up Jo and let me finish,” said Blair glaring at Jo as Tootie and Natalie started laughing.
“Anyway, the next night he picked me up at Langley and took me to ‘our’ spot, the old drive in. He asked me if I had been telling my roommates about him. I told him of course I had been telling you guys about him and that Jo and I usually stayed up late to talk about him. He got really mad and slapped me. He started yelling at me saying that what we did was between us and nobody else and that if I ever told about our dates again I’d be sorry. I was just so shocked at his reaction. I guess he saw the look on my face or something because he immediately apologized. He explained to me that he likes to keep his personal life private and didn’t want to be compared to other guys. I could kind of understand that. The next day, he met me after a class with two dozen roses and a box of chocolates. He apologized again and invited me to lunch. I thought he was really sorry and so I went with him. That lasted about another two weeks. He started asking me a lot of questions about you guys. I thought he was just being curious so I answered him. Anytime I mentioned Jo’s name he would just snap. Every time that he hit me, he made me feel like it was my fault. I don’t know why I didn’t realize that all he was doing was getting his hooks in me so he could control me. I started having to lie to you guys and Mrs. Garrett about where I had been and stuff. Most of the time I would end up at a hospital getting stitches. Do you remember the weekend that Shane and I went into the city to see a play then I decided to stay the weekend with some friends?” asked Blair.
“Yeah I remember,” said Jo as Natalie and Tootie nodded their heads in agreement.
“Well, I didn’t spend the weekend with friends. I actually spent the weekend in the hospital,” said Blair.
“Hospital!” exclaimed Jo, Natalie, and Tootie in unison.
“Why were you in the hospital?” asked Tootie.
“Shane got upset again,” said Blair, “but that time when he hit me, I fell and hit my hit and was knocked unconscious. The doctors wanted to keep me there for observation so I called and said I was staying with friends.”
“Oh Blair,” said Natalie reaching out for Blair’s hand.
“I should have told you guys then,” said Blair sniffling, “I know that now, but I was scared. After that he was almost back to normal. Then, the night that a bunch of us from Langley all got together he got mad at me again. I was talking to you, Jo, while we ate and in the passing conversation I mentioned your name. He looked up quickly and gave you a hard look as his face immediately flared up. He didn’t do anything then, he waited until we all split up and then he grabbed me by the arm and started yelling. I tried to apologize to him but it was no use. He slapped me with the back of his hand and I fell to the ground. I was just laying there crying as he walked off. I walked to my car and grove to the nearest gas station to clean up. The bruise was already coming up on my face. I cleaned off the blood and shook all the dirt off my sweater. I reapplied my makeup and then drove around for several hours just thinking. I finally decided to come home and that’s when I ran into you, Nat.”
“No wonder you didn’t want to talk to me,” said Natalie.
“Anyway,” continued Blair, “I really didn’t get much sleep that night. I was tossing and turning all night long because my back hurt so much. So I finally went ahead and got up so I could take a shower and cover up all the bruises before you guys woke up. Then when I got out of the bathroom, Jo made the comment that a person shouldn’t have to spend that much time in the morning getting ready for any guy. I realized then that she was right and I had to break it off with Rob…er…Shane. He called me several times while I was in class. Bootsy tracked me down to give me my messages. She told me that whatever he had done I should forgive him because he was just SO cute. I had to fight to keep from laughing at that remark because that’s how I had always justified forgiving him.”
“I think I would have done more then just laugh,” said Jo.
“I’m sure you would have Jo, but let Blair finish her story,” said Natalie turning back towards Blair, “Go on Blair.”
“I decided to finally call him after seeing that he had left over 20 messages. He did a lot of sweet talking and he convinced me to meet him that night at our spot. I don’t know why, but I agreed to meet him. I got to the drive in a bit early and waited for him. I was getting ready to leave when he finally showed up. I was happy to see him, but at the same time I was scared of him. It was the strangest feeling. I didn’t know which I should be. We started talking, then arguing, then yelling. I finally told him that it was over between us. I told him that Jo was right, I shouldn’t have to spend extra time in the mornings covering up bruises because he got mad the night before. He got really angry when I said that.” Blair shuddered as the memory of the night grew more vivid. “He pulled out a knife and then threw me to the ground. I tried to fight him off but I couldn’t. The last thing I remember is screaming as his fist came flying towards my face. The next thing I remember, I woke up here.”
“Whoa!” exclaimed Natalie, “I thought it was something like that, but I never dreamed it was that bad.”
“I didn’t either,” said Tootie in shock, “but I have a question for Jo. What happened after we left and how did you end up wrecking Blair’s car?”
Looking at Jo, “You wrecked my car? YOU wrecked MY car?” asked Blair getting louder.
“Well…I guess. I mean I don’t really remember much after I hit the wall,” said Jo.
“A wall?” said Blair turning white.
“Maybe you’d better start at the beginning,” said Natalie.
“Good idea Nat, go ahead Jo,” said Tootie.
“Okay,” said Jo weakly, “ but I have a question first. How did you figure out his name was really Shane?”
“Well frankly, because of you Jo,” said Tootie.
“Me?” asked Jo, “How did I help?”
“You told Mrs. G his name,” said Natalie.
“I did? When?” asked Jo.
“Mrs. G arrived at the drive in with the police,” said Natalie, “She ran over to you and you started babbling on and on about how you couldn’t stop the car in time. You told her you were just trying to get out of there and then all of a sudden Shane was in front of you. She didn’t remember that until later though. When she did your mom looked at the picture that Captain Davis had and she recognized him as Shane Roberts. Shortly after that, Captain Davis had a warrant and was able to arrest Shane. He is now sitting in jail and Captain Davis said more charges might be added, depending on what you two had to say. So what happened after Tootie and I left you behind?”
“Well, we argued for a bit then he started dropping hits about who he was and that I knew him. It took me a bit but I finally figured out who he was. We fought back and forth for a while. I think I broke his nose,” announced Jo proudly.”
The other girls laughed as Jo continued, “At one point we were both laying on the ground, we were both too tired to move, and we were talking. I really thought I was getting through to him until he jumped up all of a sudden. I turned to see where he was going and I felt a pain in my side here,” said Jo pointing to her left side. “He had seen the knife and leapt for it. That’s when I gouged at his eyes and took off running for Blair’s car. It took me just seconds to hot wire the car.”
Blair looked at Jo, “You hot wired my baby?”
“Well yeah,” replied Jo, “It’s not like you left the key for me or anything. Anyway, I started to peel out of there when all of a sudden Shane just appeared out of nowhere in front of me. I tried to swerve to miss him but it was too late, I hit him and then the wall was there. I tried to turn the wheel the other way, but it wouldn’t respond. I hit the wall head on. Next thing I know, I woke up here a bit ago.”
“You don’t remember talking to me right after the wreck Jo?” asked a new voice to the room.
The four girls turned to face the door and found Mrs. Garrett standing there.
“Mrs. Garrett! How long have you been standing there?” asked Natalie.
“Long enough to hear what happened to the two of you,” said Mrs. Garrett walking over to Jo and Blair’s bedside. “Oh I’m so glad that the two of you are finally awake. Linda called the house to tell us. Your parents are talking to the doctor right now. They’ll be in here in a few minutes. Linda told me to tell you girls that visitation ends in 5 minutes. Jo and Blair need their sleep.”
“Thanks Mrs. G,” said Tootie.
“Hey Mrs. G,” said Jo quietly.
“Yes sweetheart,” answered Mrs. Garrett sitting down on Jo’s bed.
“What’s going to happen to Shane?” asked Jo, “I mean obviously jail didn’t do anything for him, he came after me through Blair.”
“I don’t know sweetie. These are some pretty serious charges he has on him. With him no longer being a juvenile they should be harder on him, but I just don’t know,” answered Mrs. Garrett.
The door to the room opened and the five women looked towards the door.
“Visitation is over ladies, “ said Linda smiling into the room, “Finish your conversation up soon. They need their rest.”
“Okay, we will Linda,” said Natalie.
Linda nodded her head and walked out of the room closing the door behind her.
Mrs. Garrett stood up and gave Jo and Blair each a hug and a kiss, “You girls stay strong and you will be out of here soon. I’ll wait for you two outside,” said Mrs. Garrett to Natalie and Tootie.
The girls watched as Mrs. Garrett walked over to the door and left. Natalie and Tootie looked at each other.
“Well,” said Natalie, “I guess we should let you guys get your rest.”
“Yeah,” agreed Tootie, “but we’ll be back bright and early tomorrow because it’s Saturday and we don’t have any homework.”
“That sounds like a plan,” said Jo yawning.
“Okay,” agreed Blair trying to stifle a yawn as Natalie and Tootie walked out of the room.
Ags2000 04-18-2002, 04:23 PM Chapter 22
Blair watched as her’s and Jo’s parents left the room. The Warner’s and Polniaczek’s had been there for what seemed like forever making a big fuss over them. Now, she lay on her bed thinking about what all she had found out in the last couple of hours. Blair looked over at Jo, she was laying there with her eyes closed.
“Jo, hey Jo, are you still awake?” asked Blair.
Jo sighed, “Yeah Blair, I’m still awake. I can’t sleep.”
“Me either,” responded Blair. “Jo, I just wanted…I mean to say…”
“You don’t have to Blair,” said Jo looking over at Blair.
“Yes I do Jo,” said Blair full of sincerity, “I put a lot of people in jeopardy just because of my pride. I didn’t want to admit to anyone what was really going on. I felt…well, I felt ashamed about what was happening to me. I’m sorry Jo, I should have come to you of all people. Now, because I didn’t your in the hospital. I promise, if anything like this ever happens again, I’ll tell you Jo, I swear.”
“Blair, I believe you when you say that you will come to me, but, me ending up in the hospital had nothing to do with you. Shane had been gunning for me for years, ever since I testified against him. He’s the one I told you about before,” said Jo.
“I kinda figured that one Jo,” said Blair smiling.
“Blair look, don’t beat yourself up over this,” said Jo.
“Yeah, besides Shane did enough of that,” replied Blair looking over at Jo.
Blair and Jo’s eyes met and they both started cracking up laughing.

Ags2000 06-11-2002, 03:22 PM Chapter 23
2 months later
In the past two months, both Blair and Jo had undergone several surgeries since they had first been brought into the hospital. Blair had undergone several plastic surgeries to get rid of the scars from her face and arms. However, Blair decided to let the scar from the stab wound stay, as a reminder to her. It was small enough that nobody could see it except for herself.
Jo had undergone several surgeries to repair damage done to her knee as a result from the car crash. Jo had also already begun therapy for her shoulder. She had gained back enough strength in her shoulder that she was now able to get around on crutches, and frankly, she was pretty good at getting around. The only problem was that when she was on her crutches a lot, her side still hurt her occasionally.
Blair and Jo had both started going stir crazy within a week of their both waking up in the hospital. They had learned to amuse themselves by torturing the nurses and doctors by pulling practical jokes and by having wheelchair races down the hall of the hospital. Sometimes Jo won, sometimes Blair won the races, and occasionally they would tie. No matter what though, they ALWAYS got caught. The staff finally figured out that they could not stop Blair and Jo, so instead they started organizing races for all the patients that wanted to participate. Nowadays, their floor was rarely quiet.
Alas, the day finally came when both girls were going to be released from the hospital, and boy were they excited. They had both been waiting for this day since day one. Mrs. Garrett, Natalie, and Tootie would be arriving there in an hour when visiting hours began so they could all the check out procedures. They had both finally convinced their parents to go home because they were annoying them to death acting so protective all the time.
Blair and Jo were already packed. Blair, since she could walk, had done all the packing while Jo pretended Blair was her maid and gave her orders. Both girls were cracking up laughing when the door opened. Blair and Jo both turned to see who was coming in.
“Hi Captain Davis,” said Blair and Jo at the same time.
“Jinx!” exclaimed Jo leaning over and pinching Blair. “Pinch, poke owe me a coke.”
The two girls started laughing again.
“Well, I’m glad you girls are feeling better,” said Captain Davis.
“What’s not to be happy about?” asked Blair grinning.
“Yeah, we’re finally being sprung from Alcatraz here and going home today,” interjected Jo.
“I just wanted to let you girls know, I talked to the D.A. and the grand jury is going to be convened this coming week. The D.A. said he’d call you girls when he found out when they needed you to testify,” said Captain Davis.
“Will he be there?” asked Blair in a very timid voice, all joy now gone from her voice.
“No Blair,” said Jo, “This is just to officially charge him. We won’t see him again until trial, right Captain Davis?”
Captain Davis grinned, “That’s right Jo. Blair this is a closed hearing. Several other cases are also going in front of the grand jury. Yours will probably be near the end of the week. You have no reason to fear Shane. He is in jail, and he is staying there until the trial. He can’t hurt you, just remember that.”
“You promise?” asked Blair.
“Yes, I promise,” said Captain Davis.
The door opened once again and this time Mrs. Garrett, Natalie, and Tootie walked in the room.
“Hey hey hey, today’s the big day,” exclaimed Natalie.
“How’s it feel to finally be going home?” asked Tootie.
“Great!” exclaimed Jo.
“Yeah, to be able to sleep in my own bed, wear REAL clothes, and take a bubble bath. I can’t wait,” said Blair smiling.
“Well, all the paperwork has been filled out by your parents before they left,” said Mrs. Garrett, “as soon as the nurses get here, we can leave.”
“Nurses, what for?” asked Blair.
“Hospital policy states that all patients must leave the hospital in a wheelchair,” said Linda walking into the room with a wheelchair, “Charlie will be here in a few minutes with the other wheelchair.”
“Sounds good to me. I’m ready to split this place,” said Jo.
Linda laughed, “Are you both all packed?”
“Hours ago,” answered Blair pointing to their bags.
“How about if Tootie and I go ahead and take all the bags down to the car,” said Natalie.
"That's a good idea Natalie," said Ron walking in the door, "I'll help ya out."
"Uncle Ron! When did you get back into town?" asked Natalie.
"Just a few minutes ago," said Ron as Natalie, Tootie, and Ron gathered up all of Blair and Jo's belongings to take to the car. "I came straight here because I knew the girls were going to be released today and figured my suburban might come in use."
"Great!" exclaimed Tootie, "We need all the space we can get. Blair has SO many bags."
After loading both vehicles with all of the bags, Ron drove his suburban and Natalie drove Mrs. Garrett's car around to the hospital's entrance to pick up everybody. Blair and Jo were just being wheeled outside as the two cars drove up. It took several minutes, but soon everybody was settled into the two cars. Jo and Blair waved bye to Linda and they were ready to leave. Finally, they were going home.

Ags2000 06-11-2002, 05:33 PM Chapter 24
"Oh, it feels SO good to be home!" exclaimed Blair as she stretched out on her own bed.
"Yeah it sure is," agreed Jo lying on her bed with her leg propped up on several pillows.
"Well we are glad to have you two back with us," said Natalie.
"It just wasn't the same without you guys here. It was just too quiet," joked Tootie.
"Dinner time," sang Mrs. Garrett as she and Ron walked into the girl's room each carrying a tray for Blair and Jo.
"Here you go girls," said Ron smiling.
"I made you some good home cooking," exclaimed a beaming Mrs. Garrett.
"Really Mrs. G., we coulda come downstairs," said Jo.
"No ma'am, you two are taking it easy this week. Maybe tomorrow you can come downstairs for a little bit, but not before then."
Blair and Jo looked at each other and rolled their eyes.
"Really Mrs. Garrett it's not necessary," said Blair, "if the doctor didn't think we were ready to come home he would not have released us."
Mrs. Garrett shook her head, "oh no, you two are taking it easy. I promised your parents that."
"Figures," said Jo grinning.
"Come on Tootie, come on Natalie, our dinner is waiting for us downstairs. If you two need us just ring your bells."
"Yes Mrs. Garrett," said Jo and Blair in unison as everyone left the room.
Jo looked down at her plate and grinned, "Look Blair, real food!" she exclaimed as they both began to eat.
Neither one spoke as they ate. They each knew what the other was thinking. They both thought the same thing that always came in their heads in the quiet moments. Jo was feeling guilty for Blair being hurt and wondering how on earth Shane ended up down here in Peekskill. Blair, on the other hand, was feeling guilty for Jo being hurt and was afraid that Shane would come back and hurt her again. Now that Blair knew Shane was capable of murder, Blair was afraid he would come back and finish the job.
Blair looked over at Jo, "Hey Jo?"
Jo looked up from her dinner, "Yeah Blair?"
Blair was quiet for a minute, "Never mind," said Blair looking down at her food.
Jo shrugged and turned her attention back to her food.
"Jo" said Blair again looking over at Jo.
"Yeah Blair?" said Jo glancing over at Blair.
"Are you…I mean, should I…oh never mind," stammered Bair.
Jo rolled her eyes and went back to eating.
Blair played with her food for a few minutes and then turned to look at Jo, "Jo?"
"WHAT!" asked Jo putting her fork down so hard a piece of food was flung across the room. Jo and Blair watch the green bean fly across the room and stick to the wall. They looked at each other and started laughing. They continued laughing and throwing food at each other for several minutes until there is nothing left on either of their plates.
"Blair, I know there is something on your mind, so spill it before I grab some more ammo for a food fight," said Jo wiping green beans off of her head.
Blair let out a long sigh and set her tray aside and joined Jo on her bed. Blair looked down at her hands. "Jo, are you scared? The thought of seeing him again terrifies me. I mean, just knowing what he is capable of doing scares me to death." Blair looked at Jo with a worried expression on her face. "You testified against him once and look what he did to you after all those years. I'm scared Jo. I don't know if I can do it. I don't know if I can testify against him or not."
"Blair, you can't start thinking like that. Are you going to let him win? If you don't testify he wins, again Blair. He's hurt a lot of people, some of our friends were hurt. He has always gotten off because he has scared people. Do you want him to do this to Tootie, or to Natalie next? We BOTH have to testify against him so he can't do this to anyone again," said Jo forcefully.
"But you testified against him and he still hurt you Jo," pleaded Blair.
"Yeah I know Blair, but we were both juveniles then. They treat ya differently when you become adults. He will serve HARD time for this Blair, but only if we BOTH testify," said Jo knowingly.
"I guess," sighed Blair.
"Look Blair, I'm scared too," stated Jo.
"You are?" asked Blair in shock.
"Yeah I am, but I'm MORE scared of what he will do if we don’t put him behind bars. Now is our time to take a stand," stated Jo flatly.
"But what will people think Jo?" asked Blair.
Jo looked at Blair with a bewildered look on her face, "What will people think of what Blair?
"Of the fact that I was dumb enough to let this happen to me," said Blair quietly.
"Look Blair, you might have some people say something, but others will look at you and say, 'If Blair Warner can stand up to this guy then so will I,' and we might have more people come forward and testify as well," said Jo.
"We can only hope, said Blair just as the door opened.
"Hope for what?" asked Tootie opening the door.
"Oh nothing," said Blair quickly giving Jo a look as she stood up.
"Okay," said Natalie walking into the room, "Are you guys finished eating…" trailed off natalie as she looked around the room and saw food all over the place.
"And just what happened up here?" asked Tootie.
"Uh…" said Blair.
"Well you see," said Jo grinning.
"Stop, I don't wanna hear it," said Natalie shaking her head. "No wonder the hospital was so glad to get rid of you two."
"Yeah," agreed Tootie still looking around the room. "I can't believe you two had a food fight up in our room and you didn't even ask us to join in."
Everybody laughed and then they all pitched in to clean up.
"I take it you two are finished eating?" said Natalie.
"Yeah, I am" said Jo.
"So am I" agreed Blair.
"Great, we'll just take your trays downstairs and then how about a game of Scrabble?" asked Tootie.
"Not tonight Tootie, I'm tired," said Blair lying down in her bed.
"We'll take a rain-check on that Tootie," said Jo yawning, "I'm beat myself."
"Okay," said Natalie, "We'll just take these downstairs and then head to bed ourselves."
"Yeah," agreed Tootie, "We have school tomorrow anyway. Night guys," said Tootie shutting the door behind her.
Jo waited to speak until Natalie and Tootie had left, "Are you really tired Blair?"
"Yes I am Jo, besides, I need to do some sleeping," said Blair turning on her side so that she faced away from Jo.
"Okay Blair," said Jo fixing her pillows so she could lay down, "I'll see you in the morning then."
When Natalie and Tootie came back up to go to bed, they found Jo and Blair fast asleep.
