When you're either DOWN or want to show off Lucy type things to a new fan, what do you put on? What do you play the most or what have you seen a thousand times that still gets you to laugh out loud? For me, the CBS Salutes Lucy the first 25 years is a real favorite, in her specials i LOVE Mr and Mrs, in the tributes i just love the TV Hall of Fame, in her tv shows i'm more into The Lucy show now as i know every I Love Lucy scene by heart, so a favorite is the Dean Martin one. In her guest appearances, i love her singing with Steve Lawrence on his show, or clowing with Dean Martin on his. I of course LOVE the Password shows with her kids and that last great musical number of hers on that Hope special Comedy ain't no joke still moves me. What about you?

As far as Lucy goes, for me, it was, is and always will be I Love Lucy......her other shows were ok, but, somehow, Lucy without Desi just never measured up to Lucy with Desi.

I saw it 18 times, one whole Saturday alone i saw the 10am 12pm 2pm 4pm 6pm 8pm and 10pm shows and just enjoyed hearing a huge audience laughing at my Lucy. LIVE and in COLOR, LOL!

"The Long, Long Trailer" is a great pick-me-up for me. It is a fun, lighthearted, well-written story and has beautiful color. The scenes in the rainstorm are hilarious. Another good one is when Tacy tries to make dinner for Nicky while he is driving.

My second choice would be "Yours, Mine and Ours," which includes another great drunk scene by Lucy.

That's a hard thing to answer because what I watch is so random. If I put something "Lucy" on, it's usually an episode I haven't seen so much of. The real classic episodes that had me in stitches as a kid -- e.g., "Job Switching" and "L.A. at Last!" -- just don't do it for me anymore because I've seen them so many times and every word is firmly etched in my mind. So I usually pick something I haven't watched in awhile. Last night, it was "The Ballet" episode. Although the ending was very implausible (like many of those episodes from the first season) I was laughing myself silly watching Lucy beat up on those dancers. I also got a good laugh out of the classic scene at the ballet barre. Often times I put on a favorite LS or HL for the very reason you mention: I haven't watched those shows to death as I have ILL. The Chuck Connors and "French Movie Star" episodes are among the many that always make me laugh. We all know there are plenty of mediocre episodes of those series, but there are some great ones as well.

If I was going to convert someone I would probably pick Lucy Does a Commercial.

Ooh, I love The Long Long Trailor! I haven't watched that in ages. I also love Mr. And Mrs.

It is based on the real-life story of the Beardsley family; a widowed Navy nurse with eight children meets an widower Navy officer with ten children and they fall in love and marry.

You can imagine the fun of watching Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda trying to manage a home with 18 children!

For me, my all-time favorite "I love Lucy" is Lucy At The Brown Derby w/William Holden as guest star. I must have seen this episode over 40 times and never tire of it. I think it is Lucy at her very best. Since I own all the I Love Lucy shows on DVD I can pick any episode that brings a smile to my face and out of the 179 episodes of "I love Lucy" and the 13 "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" specials I would say that about 95% of the episodes are great; especially Lucy & The Loving Cup, Lucy's Italian Movie, Lucy Tells the Truth, Job Switchers (candy factory), Lucy & John Wayne, The Diet (cuban pete and sally sweet musical number), Lucy poses as Ricky agent and of course vitavetavegamin commercial. The list is endless, however, there were a few weak episodes during the first season but as with any new sitcom they were getting to know their characters. I would love to see some of "The Lucy Show" and "Here's Lucy" episodes. There were alot of classics among the two series. Some episodes were hit or miss but overall they were still enjoyable. I wish the airheads at CBS/Paramount would release season sets of "The Lucy Show." The movies that bring the most pleasure to me and make me happy, smile or laugh aloud are "Yours, Mine & Ours," , "Mame," "The Long, Long Trailer," and "The Fuller Brush Girl." The one film that brings the most tears to me is "The Big Street" her best dramatic performance.

Nice post, RJT. Speaking of her dramatic performances, did you ever see her in the TV movie "Stone Pillow?" It was late in her career and she played a bag lady. Here's some info I found online: "Filming took place in May 1985. Lucy suffered severe dehydration as a result of the intense New York heat and the heavy clothing she had to wear. Lucy never fully recovered from the dehydration, and suffered a couple mild strokes. Lucy named her character "Florabelle", in honor of her grandmother, which was her name as well."

The other one to check out is "Stage Door" from 1937. She is not the star but she steals the show from Katherine Hepburn, Eve Arden, Ginger Rogers and Ann Miller. It is not a heavy drama but it's not a true comedy either. It was her main A-movie and it was nominated for an Academy Award.

Never seen YOURS MINE AND OURS????? What planet are you from again? LOL! I agree about the remake stinking by the way, LOL! I also agree about having seen teh classic eps way too many times, so i too go to secondary ones, my current favorite is The Fur Coat, so so funny, however one of you mentionned The Ballet, as i've said many times on the boards, there aws a time when that one aws considered THE perfect I Love Lucy show. It's Lily Tomlin's all time favorite. Mine would be The Brown Derby with Holden.

Lucille Ball delivered an absolutely amazing performance in Stone Pillow. There were weaknesses in the script for that film, for sure, but Lucy more than made up for those weaknesses with her powerful portrayal of Florabelle. You can tell this woman really did her homework. Every aspect of that character, from the way she talked to the way she walked to the way she pushed her grocery cart, was so real. Lucy absolutely transformed herself into that character. I think at this point in her career, Lucy was too old to still be playing the ingenue "Lucy" character. This film is proof of what a powerful dramatic actress she was and I wish she had focused her energies on those kinds of roles. Unfortunately, Gary Morton was making the career decisions for her (still pretending he was Desi Arnaz). He was the reason she did Life with Lucy, and supposedly the reason she passed on Driving Miss Daisy. Two huge mistakes!

Lucy should have a hired a professional to represent her but then again, she needed to keep her husband working. Stone Pillow suffered from the author losing her daughter i think and the director had something happen to him also, so they could not do the much needed rewrites, the director was famous for his many Hallmark Hall of Fame specials which Lucy loved, she once listed them in her top ten TV shows of all time. Her dedication to the part was amazing, especially that story about her not wanting the SISSY rats but rather the REAL thing, LOL! I only liked it back when i watched it originally, but i just LOVE it now, i forgot how great she was in it. ON a recent Emmy awards that showed the best actors in the best tv movies, they showed Lucy in this role. As for someone asking about the Lucy specials, we can only get bootleg copies so far, but some of them are clear as a bell. I would say Mr and Mrs is the best but Lucy in Vegas with Dean Martin and Happy Anniversary and goodbye with Art Carney and the one with Gleason are rgeat also. Lucy in London is a standout, so different, and Lucy in Nashville is great if you like country music. Like i said, all her specials should be released on a boxed set.

Lucy in London is my favorite, followed by Lucy Calls the President. I wasn't too impressed with that "Mr. and Mrs." special with Bob Hope, or Lucy Gets Lucky with Dean Martin. They're pleasant enough to watch, just not many laughs.

That's interesting you mention Lucy's performance in Stone Pillow was acknowledged that way at a recent Emmy Awards show. I think she deserved at least an Emmy nomination back when it first aired.

To be even more specific to an earlier post, I'd probably start off with one of the "classic eps" like Lucy Does A TV Commericial, Switching Jobs, Lucy Is Enciente, Lucy Goes To L.A. etc.--vintage Lucy at her finest.

That was me asking about the specials, i want to see them all, except for maybe lucy in nashville because i am not a big fan of the country music scene, but may be worth watching just for lucy, but i cant even find bootleg copies! I really want to see lucy calls the president , mr and mrs. and Lucy moves to NBC. Oh well, guess i will have to wait a pray them release them on dvd. SPEAKING OF, do you think they will do another Lucille Ball movie box set with some of her earlier work? Some of my favorites are : Miss Grant Takes Richmond, Fullerbrush girl, Annabell takes a tour and the Affairs of Annabell, etc.

You have to check the Lucy sites for her specials, people are always offering pretty decent copies of those, at least until they are finally released for us to BUY legitimately. I used to have the Lucille Ball collection on VHS, it was from Ted Turner, and it was a dozen VHS originals of all the films you mention, only one per box, i wish they'd reissue that one on dvd.
