View Full Version : Can you believe a Cashier was having personal conversation on the phone?
TVFactFan 10-28-2007, 12:44 AM I never knew that someone could do something this DUMB. Why make yourself look foolish and have a phone conversation while you are dealing with customers?? I was outdone tonight.
If she wants to have a personal conversation she needs to get some job training to work in a office environment.
Has anyone ever seen this silly sh*T?
MonarC 10-28-2007, 12:47 AM Yeah I have I was at the local Dollar General and the cashier was on the phone. "Yeah are we gonna go drinkin tonight or what, I need to let loose" I was like ewwww.

catlover79 10-28-2007, 12:49 AM I believe it - especially when the cashiers are teenagers.
Ireneparalegal 10-28-2007, 12:49 AM You should have complained to the manager.

My mom thought the cashier was talking to her and was like-"WHAT?? The girl had that ear piece and you couldn't tell she was on the phone-lol

I sure would have!!
Adamantium 10-28-2007, 12:52 AM I work at Kroger as a bagger/cleaner and while they're not allowed to have cell phones at the registers, sometimes they get a phone call. They'll have the call transfered to the register and talk. I've seen that happen a few times. It's not right. If we get a little mad when the customer is talking on a cell phone during the check out, then we, the employees shouldn't be on the phone either.
catlover79 10-28-2007, 12:53 AM Don't forget that girls, especially, can hide a bluetooth under their hair.

I HATE that! lol
I'll see people walking down the isles by themselves and they'll be talking away. I always do a double take, thinking they're just talking to themselves. I guess we've hit a new laziness. We can't actually hold the phone, but we've gotta talk!

Could you actually hear any of the conversation?
OH Nuts! 10-28-2007, 02:14 AM A Pharmacy
Maybe she was helping herself to some of the merchandise. Talking on the phone while you are handling $ gives new meaning to the words stupid and rude. Guess she was "multi-tasking"!
80sTrivia 10-28-2007, 07:06 AM I've heard cashiers talking on the phone several times, and it is very annoying to me. The cashiers make you feel like you are interupting them by forcing them to do their jobs!
bingbangbaby 10-28-2007, 09:28 AM Who is everyone talking to and what are they talking about for all that time and why is it so important that it can't wait???
I was in a drive-thru line and the woman at the window was on a cell phone. She didn't say one word to me the entire transaction, nor did she once look at my face. She had her back to the window and she turned slightly and stuck her arm out the window. No greeting, no total due, no eye contact, just an arm. I was already annoyed, but became even further annoyed because she didn't have her hand out far enough, plus her hand kept moving as she was talking, so I had to reach waaaaay out of my window, then try to get the money to make contact with her moving hand, which wasn't even fully open to accept the change I was going to give her. I felt like just pitching the money through the open window! When the order came, same drill...one hand out the window, cell phone in the other hand...and she still hadn't yet even looked me in the eye! I would have driven off but she already had my money so I just sat there and watched how long she would stand there with her arm out the window holding the bag. After several seconds, still no eye contact, but she did stretch her arm a bit further out the window. It must have been a minute and she just kept talking away and I got the distinct feeling that she'd either stand there like that forever or she'd pull her arm back in and I wouldn't get my food at all. I really wanted to go inside and pitch a fit to the manager but I had somewhere to be (which is why I was in a drive-thru line at all) and didn't have a moment to do it. After I returned home that day I called the store and pitched my fit to the "manager," who didn't have much more to say than "uh huh...uh huh...uh huh..." He didn't even know what to say and almost sounded like he didn't understand why I was so upset. I finally gave up and decided this was not worth any more of my time or money to deal with this or ever go there again. I went to the corporate website and posted my complaint there. That was months ago, and I've never heard or seen anything back about that. And by the way it was a McDonald's.

This is a pet peeve of mine too, and a well taken one I believe. Reminds of the Judge Judy line "Do I have stupid written all over my face?"
Yes you do when you're handling $ and talking on a phone. Perhaps if the $ if off in the register for the day, one might plausibly suggest things like this could be the reason! And that's not even mentioning the rudeness factor of somone who thinks their time is more important than the customer's

God, I don't know how many times I have thought that myself. I turn around thinking someone is speaking to me and they have that stupid ear piece in their ear.
Now, you can't tell the crazy people from the bluetooth people.

I hate those phones. Despicable inventions. Hands-free, hn! Talking on the phone while driving is still a distraction, and talking to yourself still makes you look insane.

Then again, if you are talking to yourself, people might think youre talking on bluetooth and think you SANE! ;)

Ok, Just wanted to rule out that the call wasn't job related such as talking to someone about their meds.
Chocoholic 10-29-2007, 03:00 PM I've yet to deal with a cashier who was talking on a phone, but there have been countless times where the cashier was too busy chatting away with another person while handling my order. Either way, it's just downright RUDE!
On the flip side, it's also rude for the customers to be talking on the phone while they are dealing with the employees.
Personally, I think cell phones, Blackberries, iPods, and their ilk are all contributing to the decline of common courtesy.

I agree with that. And it seems like some people always HAVE to be on the phone. What gets me is when I'm in a public restroom and the person in the stall next to me is ON THE PHONE! LOL They don't care that I can hear their conversation and apparently they don't care that the person they're talking to knows they're on the toilet. Because they'll flush and still be talking. Ridiculous.
Corolla 10-29-2007, 05:46 PM The cell phone reception around here is so bad you wouldn't be able to talk on the phone in a store if you wanted to. Thanks Bell for only caring about St. John's.

Yeah, why do people seem to always want to chat on the phone? What is so friggin' important that you have to chat while doing everything else? I wonder if they do that while having sex too?
When I leave the house, the last thing I want to do is chat with people, I leave the house to get things done, like pay the bills, buy groceries, run to the courthouse to file papers, etc. I don't need the constant chatter of someone in my ear. I enjoy having my phone at home taking my calls while I am away and if I feel like returning a call, I can.
