what images or memories of images did you have that once scared the crap out of you as a child? mine is the foetus of the child. here's a little story to go with it: when i was at school back in late 80s/early 90s, me and a group of pupils and the teachers went to a place in london called the science museum in central london. alas, we were learning about the human body and human reproduction and we were in the museum and we had a tour of the place. and as i know it, there i was looking at these images of the foetus with the black pupil and i was scared **** less out of it. it looked like an alien of some sort but of course it was just a foetus. but by god, i used to have nightmares about it!

im not sure they scared me but, i hated mimes.......as far as scary, these arent exactly images, per se, but, I hated going by cemetaries, one in particular ( Morgan's Point) that had a huge old mausoleum that said S.Thompkins 1888 on the front.....it seemed like a place a ghost might have "lived" , and really creeped me out! But, the thing that creeped me out most of all, was the statueof Canada's greatest military hero Gen. Brock! Stuck on the top of the Niagara Escarpment, near the site of the battle of Queenston Heights (War of 1812), the giant statue/monument/mausoleum seemed to follow thecar everywhere for miles, irt was like being stalked by a giant! I didnt really get over my fear of General brock until we took a school trip to the monument and walked up to the top! (It was hollow and you could walk up to the top, much like the statue of Liberty)

pics below: A mausoleum of similar style to the S. Thompkins grave and 2 views of Brock's monument

I had a fear of japanese warriors, samurai warriors and kabuki. I would watch old movies of some type of samurai movie and my brother would later tell me if I didn't eat all my chinese food, one of those warriors would come looking for me. Silly now, but back then... I was SCARED! So, anything related to warriors or the kabuki actors who would paint their faces white and have these fierce look in their eyes, only made my fear worse. Of course nowadays, I love asian stuff. I collect Buddhas and have some chinese lady dolls in my home. Not sure what the correct name is, Mikado would know, he is very knowledgeable in that area.

I too was scared of the "V" Viacom thingy.

I was also scared of the image of Lucille Ball's head that was shown at the end of her Lucy Show at the end of the closing credits.

I am surprised how many people I know in their mid-30's are scared of clowns for life. One of which pretty much told me that a lot of it had to do with Gacy when she was six or seven years old. Ever since then, clowns scare her to death, and keep in mind she is a mother yet her kids have to comfort her when she sees a clown, LOL.

ITA with this. I've pretty much always been scared of them. Once years ago there was this huge daddy long leg spider in my room. I was so creeped out I just went downstairs and slept in the living room for a couple of days. No joke. They are such creepy things. Especially when they crawl.

The only time I've ever appreciated one was in the cartoon movie Charlotte's Web. That is IT. And thinking about it now, I don't think it'll be easy enough for me to do it again. *shudders*

so many of you have chosen clowns as your no#1 choice but i can understand why you have opted for them. i'd say its because of all that make-up on their faces that they give off the impression that they are freaks of some sort, of which most of them are not. also, the laughter that they have borders on the innocent and fun to the downright scary and frightening. so yeah, i don't blame you guys one bit for choosing clowns

I wonder what it would be like if one could go back in time, in the 1970s and even into the 1980s when the Jacksons, especially Michael, were tearing up the charts. My oldest daughter was so damn scared when the California Raisins commercial would come on. She would hear the song they sang, "I heard it through the grapevine" and she would see the tv screen and she would SCREAM HER LUNGS OUT!!!! I had to change the channel quick!! That was back in 1986 I believe:
I remember the California Raisins so well!! They even had a short-lived Saturday morning cartoon show when I was little. I liked them, but I can see how they might freak out young kids.

Yeah, the close-up of their faces is not easy on the eyes. There was one who even danced like Michael Jackson. You guys talking abt MJ reminded me of this commercial.

My sister has always had a fear/hatred of people dressing up animals in clothes. You know how Jay Leno always says in Headlines that he should start a club to get people to stop dressing up animals? My sister says that she would be a charter member. Personally, I never thought much about it, but she hates it. Once she and my mom were in the living room watching TV, and an animal dressed in a costume appeared on the screen. Vicky just got up and left the room. She wouldn't come back in until our mom gave her the all claer.

Hey, I can relate, I change the channel the minute J-Ho (Jennifer Lopez) comes on my tv screen. It is a well-known fact that I hate her and my family here knows her face is not welcome into my home, no magazine covers, no tv, no music, NADA!!!

At least they had the good sense to use the real Selena's voice instead of using Jennifer's vocals.

I used to love her but then I got sick of her right after "Bennifer" started (god, that got old FAST), and to be honest except for a few songs, I haven't come back since. I just can't enjoy her like I used to. The interest for the most part for me personally is just simply gone.

I think that she is an uptight snob makes it hard to truly appreciate her. She's always been mediocre at best. All of her movie performances could've been just as good if someone else played the roles, and she's not much of a singer and she's constantly relied on songs given to her by outside songwriters.

I do, however, enjoy the "Brave" album. It's almost like her way of apologizing to her fans from the beginning for getting so caught up in the rent-a-rapper craze. 12 songs, not one guest, and almost all of it is uptempo r&b/dance/pop... you know, the music Janet SHOULD be making but won't because her troll boyfriend wants her to be "ghetto".

Not to mention J-Ho relies on "special effects" to make her voice sound good. I am sick of all these singers having to as you say, "rent a rapper".

I agree. When you're a "non-singer" like J. Lo or Ashanti, I can understand all the outside help (even tho I prefer the type of songs J. Lo does when there are no rappers). But someone like Mary J. Blige or Mariah has enough of a voice on their own that it's stupid to bring in guest rappers, all they do is hinder things.

I guess I'm still old fashioned, I can only tolerate rap in tiny doses and I hate the "marriage" between rap and r&b simply because they are two predominantly-black genres of music. IMO, it'd be as preposterous as System Of A Down coming and guesting on a Celine album, I mean, both are white, so obviously they appeal to the same people, correct?

The part where you say she's a snob reminds me of something. I remember some show on MTV where they talked about myths, facts, and things, and one of the episodes mentioned the myth that J.Lo went off on someone in charge once because her dressing room had the wrong color towels, the wrong color white, which turned out to be a fact. That was another thing that rubbed me the wrong way. I was like "wow, relax, girl. they're freaking TOWELS."

I heard she once fired one of her assistents for making fun of her by singing Taco Flavored Kisses (from South Park)

Nothing is worse than Barbra Streisand, she fired someone for not putting rose petals in her toilet once.

 Yeah, I bet that South Park parody just ruined her year!! You are right, she is materialistic and she seems to never have enough money, like she constantly needs to put out a new product. I can't stand her for the flake she is musically. She is no singer. I would love for her to sing without any assistance whatsoever and belt out a song in a stadium, like the National Anthem, then maybe I will keep my mouth shut abt her so-called talent. Still, the fact that she is a ho doesn't help her either. She gives marriage a bad name.

As for Barbra Streisand, I don't think that story is true. She is very down to earth and doesn't seem materialistic as some people make her out to be. She visited my boyfriend's place of business, looking for granite table tops for her home. My boyfriend assisted her and he noticed she was driving an old chevy truck. He jokingly asked her abt the truck and she said she was more comfortable driving that truck then a fancy car. Also, she asked to use the bathroom on the premises and he showed her to the ladies' room and he apologized to her for how small it was and she told him not to be silly, it was clean and that was all that mattered. He got me her autograph.

that's great to hear that. I have always thought she was a fantastic singer and actress and think she doesn't get enough credit for opening the doors for Madonna, Julia, Cher, Mariah and others about it being okay to be a female playing a boys club and having as much power and importance as the guys do, but I always disliked how difficult she was supposed to be. Nice to hear that there are instances about her from people who have met her that contradict the "mean-spirited bitch" reputation she has been given.

Oh I hear that. She was one of my first fave female singers. And as for opening doors, every female singer owes it to Babs for her ability to sing, act, direct, produce, etc. She was one of the first (if not the first) to be able to do all those things and be awarded highly for her work.

Yeah, my boyfriend told me at first he didn't recognize Barbra because she was dressed simple, wasn't wearing make-up and she just seemed relax. He told me she was real friendly. I am sure she has her bad moments/days, hey don't we all? I know I am not always a nice, easy-going lady.

Ireneparalegal
10-28-2007, 07:54 PM
Actually she signed it this way, "Thanks, Barbra Streisand". My boyfriend had told her what a huge fan I was and I had her CD's and so forth. That is why she wrote, "thanks". He gave her a red marker to write with, so that didn't leave too much room on the paper for anything else.
