TV Land has become the same way. It seems ethnic shows are now the rage. I am not a Will Smith fan and I always though Fresh Prince was a highly over-rated show. TV Land has played Sanford & Son to death as well. My definition of classic TV is prior to the 1970s, but as time goes on, more and more shows from the 1950s and now the 1960s are soon to be forgotten. Sorry, but I don't think Home Improvement is classic TV, and Fresh Prince and certainly George Lopez are not classic TV, but they reflect the inevitable changes in American culture and there seems to be no way around that.

well here in the uk, the fresh prince is shown on satalite and cable every day and on TWO, that's right 2 channels- a teen channel called trouble and a entertainment channel called virgin 1

Another good rant Solomon! Fresh Prince is way too overplayed on the network. I though with HI and Gl, we could get more variety and less Fresh Prince, but that isn't happening at all. We have less variety than ever now. The only 3 shows in primetime now are FP, HI, and GL. Before their additions, we had 5 shows in primetime (AFV, Full house, Roseanne, Fresh Prince, Cosby).

I have not seen Cosby nor Roseanne on N@N anymore. Why didn't FP follow suit?

Good rant my man, you said it again. thanks! I was starting to get into the new schedule of HI and GL. And lo and behold, here comes FP again! :faint: What is up with those people? Why do they have to throw that show in at every opportunity? And you are right, as many have stated on here before, how will N@N know what other hits might be out there if THEY DON'T PUT OTHER SHOWS ON THE AIR? That is the million dollar question I hope we get answered soon.

As for Kelly Ripa, I think she likes to teeter on the border, you know, innuendos, just enough sex talk that won't get her in trouble. I bet she got way more laughs than Sherri Sheppard does for her funny remarks. Did Kelly get laughs for that comment Sol?

Now if this isn't the definition of overplayed (See image),then i don't know what is.

Excatly! Nick at Nite only had at least five minority casted shows in the last twenty years so it's clear that the poster has no idea what he/she is talking about.

It was a bit of an edgy comment. I mean, if the shows do well for them, why should NAN care if the shows are "ethnic" or not? So Will Smith is Black. Who cares? What about Lopez? He's Hispanic, and that doesn't make a difference to me. The point is, we're all sick of seeing Fresh Prince dominating this network.

That could be one good thing about NAN right now. Less Cosby. The show should already be entirely on TVland already, IMO.

Looks like your rant may have done some good, Solomon. According to NAN's online schedule, the only schedule is going back into effect beginning this week.

I wrote that post wrong. Home Improvement is going back to 9 and 9:30. Fresh Prince is still airing at 11pm and 2pm. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if it's really true. I know it still aired tonight at 9pm.

Roseanne no longer airs on N@N. And if it does, it is at an hour when everyone sleeps. I love Roseanne, but it is nice to have a change of pace with GL and HI. FP has gone beyond Cosby Show, Roseanne and any other show that has aired on N@N. It airs on NOGGIN as well. And it is not one episode. It is usually four episodes in a row.

if Will Smith didn't go on to become a huge star, would Fresh Prince be any more common in reruns than Blossom? I seriously don't get it. The show was popular but it was never a major hit in first run, N@N "flops" like Murphy Brown and Designing Women were far more popular when they were current than Fresh Prince ever was.

FP isn't that bad of a show, but does it deserve to be treated in the upper level of 90's sitcom blockbusters like Seinfeld, Friends, Roseanne and Frasier? I don't think so. It was more of a modest hit along the lines of a Boy Meets World or Blossom

Are you serious? How could you even say Home Improvement overairs on NAN? It's been airing a month, and so far has already has 1 airing taken away. It's airing 3 times a night, which is about normal compared to other shows. Sure, there was a point when Roseanne was airing all the time, but now it airs once a night at 3am.

God, I'd love to see Roseanne come back. As much as I love this show, I was glad to see HI come, but now I never see it anymore.

I agree with you. Fresh Prince was never a top 10 show or anything. It came in the top 20 two of it's seasons, where shows like Murphy Brown and Roseanne were top 10 hits for over 5 seasons.

That's why I don't get why FP is so popular. WIll Smith does have his movie career, but what movie has he been in this year?

Let me add, people have blasted Roseanne AND Cosby show for being overplayed on N@N. The thing is Cosby is now off N@N and Roseanne airs ONCE.

Here you have FP continuing to play over and over and over again. How many times do they air FP in a row daily? And then add the four episodes they air in a row on NOGGIN. That is friggin' too much FP after all this time.

The Big Deal is it's not Enough Balance on N@N. No one is watching FP on N@N with a frowned up face, we are just saying it's time for more shows to come into play instead of just one show airing 34 times a night-lol

And no one is going overboard. The fact that FP even continues to air at all is the problem. It should be yanked off now. Even one episode is TOO MUCH. Enough already with damn FP.

Um... come on now, as much as I love Designing Women, it was never popular than Fresh Prince. And who really cares if it was a modest hit to you. Fresh Prince has a HUGE following almost as the same as Family Matters.

Designing Women was a bigger ratings hit at it's peak than Fresh Prince, ratings speak for themselves. DW was top 10 for two seasons, FP peaked at the lower run of the top 20.

How do you know I even like Designing Women? I don't, I consider it a poor man's Golden Girls, but it was a bigger hit in the early 90's.

And whether FP was a top ten hit or not, has no bearing on the simple fact that more than many people have complained (rightly so) that FP is overplayed. Here we have two "new" shows to N@N's line-up, Roseanne is now down to one episode and Cosby has been removed. BUT FP REMAINS???? Gimme a f***** break here.

THAT'S the way they should treat FP. Seriously, we had this discussion before, no one here watches FP, although some people in this world do, but that doesn't give a good enough reason to keep FP on the air. Roseanne and Cosby had good ratings and many watched those shows. But seriously, it was time for them to be booted off, just like it is time for FP. Hell, if you haven't had your fill of FP by now, you never will.

well, I suppose it pays off since Roseanne fans don't need N@N, we have the DVD's. Season 9 is coming out in 2 weeks and then our collections will be complete. IIRC, Warner still has two or three seasons to go with Fresh Prince and they're really being slow at releasing them.

Oh yea, Factory Girl, I actually watched Fresh Prince when it premiered back in September 1990, I actually remember arguing with someone in my fifth grade class who was all "Fresh Prince is so 1988, nobody will watch his show" when I mentioned watching it). Don't assume I hate it just because I pointed out it's not the blockbuster that people have spun it into being in retrospect. I lived through it's run in the 90's and it was somewhat popular but it was never a Roseanne/Cosby/Seinfeld/Friends type of show like you might be led to believe in 2007.

I agree, I enjoyed the show in first run too. I still stand by my belief that FP wouldn't be on all the time if Will Smith didn't rocket to superstardom after the show ended (I believe this was why Bosom Buddies stayed around as long as it did in syndication, cashing in on Tom Hanks even if the show only lasted two seasons while shows that were bigger in the 80's have vanished from reruns). Yea, the show was fun when it ran but I don't think it necessarily held up as well as Roseanne and Seinfeld did. Okay, the show doesn't suck, but if the words "Will Smith" didn't have any more clout than the words "Mayim Bialik" do today, do you really think this show would be beaten to death in syndication? I doubt it.

Can't argue with that. I believe it does play a part in how much it is shown not on one N@N channel, but TWO!

Being the devoted Roseanne fan that I am, I couldn't help but defend N@N airing Roseanne as much as it did. Hey, I love the show. But even a devoted fan like me can say that N@N did overplay it to death and it is time to bring other shows to the channel. Even a devoted fan like me can say that it was time for it to go.

exactly, Roseanne is my favorite sitcom ever and I agreed that it was time N@N shoved it aside for some newer shows... however, FP isn't exactly "newer shows". I have seasons 1-8 and will get 9 as soon as it comes out so I'll never care if Roseanne airs again, I have it all anyways and can watch when I wish.

My prob with N@N in recent years has been that N@N has had a tendency of treating any show that isn't Fresh Prince, Roseanne or The Cosby Show (Roseanne's been on the network 4 years, TCS for 5 1/2, they had their day) like crap instead of trying to diversifying their roster. It's always been three shows getting all the good timeslots with a few shows being shoved off to one showing a night. I know that ratings are important, but why not just air the blockbuster shows in the evening and then give the "flops" respect after midnight instead of showing shows three or four hours a night?

I miss the old days of N@N where they had eight or nine shows a night and they all got treated with respect and had their fair share. Compare this to the way N@N treated Growing Pains, Designing Women (the show was very popular in the early 90's, just because it's not a syndication hit doesn't mean the show wasn't huge and that Delta's exit wasn't a major news story at the time), Murphy Brown, A Different World, Coach, Charles In Charge, Perfect Strangers, Mad About You, Head Of The Class and Coach amongst other shows. There was room for Roseanne, Fresh Prince and Cosby AND the other shows, the N@N programmers just don't realize that you can air more than three or four shows a night.

Good post and well said. I agree. N@N could easily make a decent schedule with many shows, but they just want to FP us to death with their mini-marathons, marathons and whatever else they could do regarding that show.

Even though I loved Roseanne, I knew there were people who hated seeing it over and over again, and I am not going to sit here and say it is not overplayed. It is time that N@N come up with a schedule that allows some more "new" shows and maybe keep ONE episode of FP. I doubt highly the network will go down the tubes if they remove FP entirely. But obviously the show gets good ratings from what Solomon has posted here before, so rather than play four episodes in a row or two episodes before two shows and two FP episodes AGAIN, why not just air it ONCE.

I lived through it's run in the 90's and it was somewhat popular but it was never a Roseanne/Cosby/Seinfeld/Friends type of show like you might be led to believe in 2007.

What the hell are you talking about? Did I assume that you hate FP? You need to cut and paste when I made this comment! .

And I never said that this show is on the same level as Roseanne and Cosby, again cut and paste and stop assuming.

It doesn't matter if FP was in the top ten or not. Facts Of Life was NEVER in the top six but yet, it's still a popular show, even bigger today. I also lived through the run of the Fresh Prince, from the age of 9 until 15 so don't assume that I didn't. The Fresh Prince was really popular among kids around my age at the time like Blossom was. NEWSFLASH: A show doesn't have to be a top ten to be good.

Bottom line, a lot of people on here LOVE to complain about stuff that was made past 1985 and this is getting old. Nothing pleases some of you on here and it's hillarious..... i'm kind of done going back and forth with you, it's just a TV show that was good to some people like me... Jesus, let me go slit my throat now:rolleyes:  .

No, there is no point, Facts of Life and Different Strokes and A Different World is off, instead of complaining, I buy the DVD sets, non edited and all.

I would like to see a little more shows of the late eighties and nineties, but i'm sure people will complain about that!

So would most of us. I think you're not getting that people don't dislike the shows, they just dislike the overplaying. Irene and I have both expressed many times on this very thread that we're both huge huge Roseanne fans, yet we both agree that N@N went way too far in playing the show to death.

People are going to complain when shows are whored to death on the network, they did it with Cheers in 2001-2002, they did it with Cosby in 2002-2005, they did it with Roseanne in 2003-2006 and they're doing it with Fresh Prince now. Just go back many pages and read old messages, you'd see so many "I'm going to kill somebody if I see another Roseanne episode" threads.

I would love N@N to air a lot of 80's and early 90's shows, but the problem that everyone here has is that N@N picks one or two that they play to death while treating the rest like **** and relegating it to 4:30 am after being on the schedule for three weeks.

Neither does anyone else's. Solomon made a rant and we are here discussing it. What is the problem? Since when is discussing something that many here have a complaint abt, become something to get so p*ssy abt?

I could care less abt FP. Obviously you love the show and there is nothing wrong with that. But just like when people bashed Roseanne being overplayed, I didn't take it personal or whine abt it. I heard their complaints and took it in stride. Chill pills are needed here please. ;)

Dean Winchester

is this too bad of a N@N schedule? I'm going only by shows that have been on for the past two years on there.. The top 3 are the obvious N@N "favorites"

9-10: Home Improvement
10-11: Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air
11-12: George Lopez
12-1: Roseanne
1-2: The Cosby Show
2: A Different World
2:30: Growing Pains
3: Mad About You
3:30: Wings
4: Designing Women
4:30: Murphy Brown
5-6: Full House (seems to work well in the "when the kids get up really early for school" slot)

See, there's a timeslot where the top 3 get the cushy "prime time" slots, the "vets but fading" shows (Roseanne, Cosby, Full House) still get an hour a piece, and the "flops" all get one showing a night. Maybe shuffle some of the shows around, but there's an ideal night of N@N where TWELVE shows get shown, as opposed to the realistic N@N that has 4-5 shows a night tops. Granted, the latter showings aren't ideal for the "flop" shows, but at least if you're a night owl or have a DVR and want to record the shows, you have your shot.

Well let me just make everything clear for you because I don't know if you know what the purpose of this thread was. Every saturday, I poke fun at something having to do with Cable or Network TV, not really complaining but just pointing out to everyone on this board what I think is silly, not so much what's NOT FAIR. So the thread is for fun discussion and to make FUN of whatever network i'm discussing in the rant. So just wanted to say that I'm not B*TCHING about anything because that would be pointless, just making fun of things in the Entertainment I think is silly and why I think it's silly. So anyone can disagree with me but it don't have to be a argument because it's not that serious. And even if you read the rant, you can see clearly that I was poking fun at N@N when I said

But no, most do love shows made in the 1970's but god forbid if a show was made during the second term of Regan's presidency, same goes for music and movies around here.

Come on, I STILL think they are hating on FP not because it's overplayed(whatever) but that the show was made after the classic years. Are you kidding me? You're acting like a Junior High student. This is getting way off subject, but I have disagreed with Solomon and Irene many times before, and no problem was started because of it. Solomon's, Irene's, and my view, along with many, many others, is that Fresh Prince is overplayed. It has just gotten an overnight weeklong marathon, and an extra airing at 9pm, taking one of HI's airings, which I was finally starting to enjoy on the network.

Roseanne and Cosby were all overplayed at points, but neither were as much as Fresh Prince has been. All year, and half of last year, Fresh Prince has been getting weekend marathons, week long marathons, nightly marathons, and more airings than any other show nightly, and you are not calling it overokayed? It was finally going back into place when GI and GL joined, but now it's dominating once again.

I like Fresh Prince. It used to be one of my favorite shows. But, I also like Roseanne, Cosby, Home Improvement, and the shows like Murphy Brown and Mad About You which don't get any airings at all. Instead of airing FP 5 times a night, why not air it 2 or 3, then leave room for other shows?

What the hell does that statement have to do with cliques? I have always agreed with you on most things at these boards, and I found you to be one of the smarter posters, but what you're saying now is completely unreasonable. I find most things Irene and Solomon say to be hilarious. This is no different. If that's what she said, deal with. Don't bring me into it. And you wonder why I haven't posted for the last 3 or so pages. I didn't want to get into this one.

Back on subject, Fresh Prince is overplayed. For the last 3 years, it has dominated this network. Now is no different. It is still the most-played show on this network. NAN only programs 9 hours a day, and 2 1/2 hours of that is Fresh Prince. Roseanne airs once at 3am. I'm not even sure if Cosby still airs at all, which we have 4 shows sharing 1 horrible timeslot. And you're saying this schedule is fine?

You ALL need to grow up! A simple topic such as The Fresh Prince has turned into a war on both sides.

Irene, what you said to factorygirl was wrong and is simply immature.
Factorygirl, FP is overplayed waaay too much.
Roseanne, just stay out of it then, factorygirl does NOT have to deal with someone disrespecting her.

What i'm trying to say is that all of you are acting like three year olds! It needs to stop. Why can't you all agree to disagree?!!!!

Anyway, no more FP even though I used to like the show in high school, bring back Facts of Life or Growing Pains!!!

What i'm trying to say is that all of you are acting like three year olds! It needs to stop. Why can't you all agree to disagree?!!!!

Anyway, no more FP even though I used to like the show in high school, bring back Facts of Life or Growing Pains!!!

You're telling me to back off in this conversation, yet you come here and get right into it. I'm guessing you're new here. Irene is kown for saying wisecracks like that. I usually sit back and laugh at them. The point is, Fresh Prince is overplayed. She's making it sound way too complicated. She was defending her views. I'm defending mine.

The point is you all need to grow up, you, Irene, Factorygirl etc. FP is overplayed, but there are some who actually enjoy watching the show and don't see it that way, do not get smart with me please, but by telling someone to deal with being disrespected is wrong, just like factorygirl was wrong and accused solomon of being cliquey.

I'm pretty sure if someone made fun of you then you wouldn't think it's funny.

 This whole thing is hilarious, Cosby I can see, but FP?!!!!!

I don't get you. I'm a 39 year old woman. I do not need you telling me what to do. People have been disrespectful to me numerous times. I deal with it my own way. I don't need other people telling me what to do. I am not trying to be disrespectful to you or anyone else. If you ask anyone at this board if FP is overplayed, they'll all say yes, because it is. That was the original point of Solomon's rant. FP is overplayed. That's it.

What's wrong with you, i'm telling not just you but factorygirl to grow up. You have told factorygirl what to do to by telling her to deal with it, i'm sure we are all grown on here believe it or not. I never said you were disrespectful I said don't expect her to just deal with something that doesn't have crap to do with the topic, end of story.

FP is overplayed a lot yes, but come on, this childish arguement is pointless on ALL sides. I love The Cosby Show and Roseanne so naturally I would defend those shows too. But if something is overplayed, it's overplayed. All this namecalling and cursing is NOT needed. You ALL need to chill out, it's just a message board, not a presidental election! And please people, don't tell me so and so started it, you all act as worse as my kids!

Solomon, good job on your rant! I couldn't stop laughing!

I just don't see what the big deal is about The Fresh prince airing all the time. Not one person has made a comment about the overairing of Roseanne and Home Improvement. If it's too much Fresh Prince, change the channel or deal with it.

True people can change the channel but I don't need to see FP 40 times a day on five million channels. As much as I watched it in high school, I don't need to see it THAT much 14 years later or have a promising new show on the channel to be bumped off because it doesn't pull the same rating as FP.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This board is waaay to clique-ish, if you don't agree with King Solomon or Queen Irene, then you are targeted around here. But no, most do love shows made in the 1970's but god forbid if a show was made during the second term of Regan's presidency, same goes for music and movies around here.

Come on, I STILL think they are hating on FP not because it's overplayed(whatever) but that the show was made after the classic years. If I Love Lucy was played four times a day, then Irene, Solomon, and any other poster who took a bash at me wouldn't complain. And they assumed that i'm some big fan, i'm really not as much as I was at 15 but i'm tired of people constantly complaining about EVERYTHING around here.

And do popular belief, I can participate in any board I choose to, plain and SIMPLE!

It has really nothing to do with modern or not, if I Love Lucy was played five times a day then i'm sure people will get bored with it, don't sound so upset because people happen to not like FP being overran on N@N, it is. I'm laughing at all of you because you all except for buffyboy and kingoftvresearch are going back in forth with the cursing, namecalling, and calling people out. This is something that little kids do, I don't care how old anyone is on here, if people are acting immauture i'm going to say something because it's not really called for. You, Irene, and Roseanne need a time out!

Enough with the fighting on both ends. The only thing I disagree with really is that people have in fact bashed Roseanne here. Just because it's not going on right now doesn't mean there weren't three and a half years of posts about how overplayed Roseanne is. I'd say Roseanne has gotten three times the flack Fresh Prince is getting now. Just because they're not bitching about it being overplayed anymore doesn't mean they didn't from late 2003 to earlier this year. And I am a HUGE Roseanne fan and I couldn't disagree with those who felt the show was being overplayed, because I had to agree with them, and it's my favorite sitcom of all time. I quit watching N@N some time back, I have the Roseanne's on DVD so I don't need to worry or wonder when Nick's gonna air it, but I do think that it was played way too much and if you weren't a big fan of the show, it was overkill. Much like FP is in overkill mode today. Unless it's "launch week" when a show is getting it's introduction to the network, there is no reason why any show should air more than four times max a night, hell, two suffices when you consider all the shows N@N has rights to but won't play because they'd rather air a seventh episode of FP or HI instead.

I agree with Judith, I would love Facts Of Life to return to N@N (just as long as it doesn't get played eight times a night, it's up there with my faves but we don't need marathons every night of any show), and while I don't care for Growing Pains, it deserves at least one showing a night.

Thank you, I wanted to join eariler but this arguing has made me hesitant to do so.

Hey! I wouldn't mind FOL to be played eight times a night! It deserves it since i'm STILL waiting for season four to be released on DVD. And I was upset when N@N took off GP in favor of more Fresh Prince or Roseanne or whatever show that was being ran 50 times. I'm a little tired of HI too, I can't wait until Family Matters comes on N@N!

well, I wouldn't mind N@N being Roseanne and FOL all night, hahaha. But that'd be selfish and would be hell for some like FP and HI is for others, lol.

OH NO!...Where do you get off barging in here, telling people what to do? Your not an admin of this site. Hell, you don't even stand the same rank that "King Solomon" or "Queen Irene" have ;). There's no reason for you to be directing people what to do. How can you come on here, demanding Roseanne to butt out of things?...I have never seen such guts in all my life!

Please tell me that you are joking...

All I asked was for everyone to shut up and stop this nonsense, this is making new posters like myself not want to join sitcoms online, if people bash, get mad at other posters over bull like a T.V show, then it does turn some people away.
