View Full Version : Where were you when 9/11 happened? DLevine2 09-11-2007, 10:29 PM When 9/11 happened I was at work and they had a TV at the library which I work at and it was on the Fox News Channel. I saw on the TV that the airplane hit one of the Twin Tower buildings and the World Trade Center. Mikado 09-11-2007, 10:37 PM I was working......someone from upstairs said that the World Trade Centre had "fallen into the Hudson River", almost casually, so naturally we all thought it was some kind of joke..............until i got in the car after work, turned on my radio and instead of music, started hearing the reports. I went home and watched CNN in awed wonder and shock. The weirdest part though, was the next day, when, the skies over Welland were totally devoid of planes! I live under the flightpaths of 3 airports <Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo> and the skies over my house are almost never empty of at LEAST a contrail.....but, that day, not only was the sky empty of planes, it was empty of clouds; it seemed as if the Earth was standing still! It was so quiet and eerie! Ohio8 09-11-2007, 11:45 PM I was home watching TV. I was watching the Windsor, Ontario TV station which I turned on while channel surfing at at first, I thought that the video of the Twin Towers was footage from a movie. I then channel surfed some more, and I saw the footage of the WTC on other channels. catlover79 09-11-2007, 11:52 PM When the attacks actually HAPPENED, I was in a math class (it was my last year of college). A classmate gave me a ride home - we did not have the radio on, so we were completely ignorant as to what was going on. I went to the basement to surf the web and turned on the radio while I waited for the computer to boot up. There were two reporters talking all over each other and I couldn't make heads or tails of what they were saying. I decided to go upstairs and turn the TV on. What I saw was so surreal. I saw one Twin Tower standing and was like, what happened to the other one? To my complete horror, I saw the second Tower fall live. I called my sister (who was in college in PA), and once my family members came home later on in the evening, we were all in shock. No one could say anything. This went on for a few days, actually. Our cats even picked up on the tension. None of us were mad at each other, but how DO you react in a situation like that? I can't believe it's been 6 years. THAT seems unreal...and that yellow-bellied, murdering coward Bin Laden is still on the loose...:angryfire OH Nuts! 09-12-2007, 05:42 AM I normally took the subway that goes under the WTC at abt 8:45-8:50 except that Tues I had an early Dr's appt and took the bus down B'way instead. We were told to exit the bus @ Chambers St. and I walked to work & got there at about 8:55-9:00. S too. Holly 09-12-2007, 08:41 AM i was working:( They sent us home early that day when we all heard about it and we had the next day off.. That's so sad 80s_Fan 09-12-2007, 08:41 AM I was at work and when I heard about it; I was pretty shocked. I will in shock for at least a couple of weeks. To this day, I think about it from time to time and feel so sad and bad for all those affected by it. coffield3 09-12-2007, 09:40 AM I was in my bedroom watching neighbours, when all of a sudden breaking news came on, i was SHOCKED! and couldnt believe my eyes, i went downstairs to tell my family and we watched it live on cnn i was so upset i think the world stood still that day! :( i still think about it and i try to blank out those planes as they hit the towers! Dynomite 09-12-2007, 09:45 AM I was working part-time at a post office. For me, it was another day off-I wasn't needed for assistance that day. At approximately 9:00 a.m., I turned on the TV and was flipping through the channels. Then suddenly, I saw New York's Twin Towers burning. I initially thought a major fire broke out in one of the towers, but those things don't just happen. Short time later, I learned two jet airliners were hijacked and were run into the towers. A short time later, they also broke the news that another jet airliner crashed into the Pentagon, damaging it. And to top it off, they broke news about yet another jet airliner going down, miles outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. If TJ can excuse what I'm about to say, otherwise, he can edit this post, but it wasn't hard to figure out that zealot bastard, Osama bin Laden, masterminded these attacks. God-willing may we capture or kill the SOB-he's the epitamy of pure evil and hate. Speaking of which, this has to be unquestionably the most heinous hate crime to ever be commited in history. For the 9/11 victims, may they all rest in peace. As for Osama bin Laden, may Hades take his piece of crap hide. rosered 09-12-2007, 10:46 AM i was in highschool still and they made us all come into the cafeteria and watch it on tv. it was pretty sureal, i dont think anyone fully grasped what was going on until they let us go back to class and we talked about it. Number 9 Dream 09-12-2007, 04:18 PM I'd just started college for the first time in 2001 (I think it was my first semester too). I had my first class in the morning, then came home to watch talk shows for a bit. I turned on channel 11 thinking Maury would be on, then I saw the broadcast about the first WTC tower being hit by a plane. At first I was just thinking it was some freak accident. However, when the broadcast was interrupted with the news that the 2nd tower had been hit by another plane, I started freaking out. I knew something was horribly, horribly wrong but had no idea what was going on. I remained glued to the t.v. for most of the morning, then I called my friend (who was working at a local flower shop at the time) and she came to pick me up while she was doing her deliveries. I just didn't want to be alone (I truly thought it was the end of the world or something). I can distinctly remember waiting outside for my friend to come get me and noticing how peaceful the neighborhood was at that hour. It just disturbed me to think that while everything was so serene on Long Island, there was utter chaos only an hour and half away from me. I'll never forget that. friendcarr 09-12-2007, 04:47 PM i was at school in the 4th grade...the teacher's got an e-mail and they read it to every class. friendcarr 09-12-2007, 04:49 PM stop saying you were shocked... We were all shocked, OMGOSH. freshprinceofLA 09-12-2007, 04:51 PM I was getting ready for school when I saw it on the news :( RoryGilmore 09-12-2007, 08:03 PM 6th grade homeroom/history 1st period secretary came running down the hall, ask the teacher to come out in the hall she told him, he ran in turned the TV on told us to watch, then on comerical he turned it down and told us what was going on (as much as he knew at least) all we did in school that day was watch the news I was freakin out all day because I thought my real dad was in D.C that day. I got home and he called that night from San. Fransisco. Turns out he had taken the same flight as one othe planes that hit the Towers on the day before (THANK GOD!!!) It may have been six years ago and I was only 11 but I remember it like it was yesterday. and yesterday I got really pissed off at a freshman in one of my classes. A classmate brought in a DVD of images from 9/11 and all of us wanted to watch it except for this freshman who sat in front of me, he turned around to me and said "Who cares this happened 6 years ago, its done, its over, lets forget about it" I got so pissed at him. YoliUSA 09-12-2007, 08:24 PM I was in eighth grade science class when another teacher came in and took our teacher aside to tell her what had happened. He didn't want us to know, but when we saw our teacher's face we knew something was wrong, and she told us. It wasn't until my mom picked me up and when I later watched the news coverage at home that I learned of the magnitude of the attacks. mc_light1202 09-12-2007, 10:29 PM I was at home getting ready for school. I remember seeing a repeat of the first crash and then a live shot as the second crashed. I didn't find out what really happened untill I got to school. They held us in homeroom for about 2 or 3 hours because on the news there was fear that they would attack LA. Hollow 09-13-2007, 12:13 AM asleep during the attacks. when i was getting ready for school, the news was on and it seemed like something more important than usual, but i didn't pay attention. on the way to school my mom told me what happened. i was terrified. when i got to class they were all listening to reports on the radio. we listened for a while and then spent a long time talking about it. i almost cried, i was just so scared. after school i watched the news for the rest of the day. i was so disturbed by it all that i had at least one bad dream about it. Mr. Stefani 09-13-2007, 12:47 AM 4th period. the kid behinds me father worked in one of the first buildings to be hit and i remember him just breaking down in front of everyone. i didnt realize how big a deal it was until we went to starbucks after school and there was a sign on the door that said closed due to todays events. they werent really telling us anything at school so we had no idea how big it was. Max Whittaker 09-13-2007, 01:16 AM I was in bed. Sleeping without a care in the world(gee, I wonder what that would be like...). When I woke up I turned on the radio to listen to Country music. The morning crew was talking about the attacks. I thought they were telling a fictional story, or something, as they so often did. They mentioned braking news, something about an American fighter plane possibly shooting down flight 93. They asked us to pray for the pilot. I guess that's when I realized it was more real than simply an early morning radio show skit. KJH278 09-13-2007, 11:26 PM I was working at the Fedral Court House on Long Island when it happened Scoobiedoo30 09-17-2007, 05:38 PM coming out of the bathroom and my mom told me about 9/11 happen Janice 09-17-2007, 06:20 PM I was sleeping, and my sister called me on the phone. She was so upset. The phone started ringing like crazy. My husband called me, screaming about it. He gets mad. I had to talk him down. I was afraid he was going to have a heart attack. That's how angry he was. |
