I could never forget. I can't forget. I won't forget. My condolences to you Brian on your loss. I never forgot that either. God Bless.

My fear is that one day, kids will say what is 9/11? We can't forget. As much as the images pain us, it is good to reflect.

Check my avatar, and tell me I forgot.

No, Never Forget, and Never Forgive. If I had known where the Taliban's NYC Branch was that day, I would've fire-bombed it in retaliation! The so-called "Islamic Thinker's Society" better hope they don't run into me when they hold a jihadist demonstration!

This day is, and forever will be on my mind...I honestly don't think there's been a SINGLE day in 6 years that I haven't thought about the events that took place on September 11th, 2001 (if even for a second). I haven't gotten "fully" choked up about the subject for maybe 2 years now, but there's at least 1 second each day when it does comes to mind.

It's always the smallest things that remind me of the tragedy, like looking out my backyard windows, and not seeing those buildings there. Or when I'm riding the ferry and I look across, and they're not there. Or when I see the manhattan skyline at night, and they're not rising above all the others. And then there's those planes that get lower and lower, getting ready to land at the airport, that always have me flashing back.

I can remember almost everything about that day, minute by minute...I was in 7th grade, and it was during lunch that we heard the announcement that there was an "incident" in downtown manhattan. The Dean said "2 planes crashed into the World Trade Center, and they came down." A girl asked "which one?" And he said "both of them."...Those words are, to this day, some of the hardest, and saddest words I've ever heard.

We knew it was serious, but we didn't know how serious it really was...And of course, like many that day, we were more confused, and scared, than anything. And of course being 12 and 13, we figured everything would be fine.

Since it was around 10:30am when us kids found out, those of us that didn't go home, watched the news and listened to the radio in every class thereafter...Watching the aftermath as it happened was scary, and I'm sure everyone can relate to that. Seeing people crying, running, covered in dust, some bleeding, some burned, etc. It was too much. I remember my english teacher turned to a different news channel, when they showed certain things she felt we shouldn't see.

It was during the discussion about terrorism, and the planes that went down in PA and at the Pentagon, that a lot of us really came to terms with what was happening.

When I got home from school, everyone but my mom was sitting on the stoop...She was stuck in manhattan until 10 that night. The public transportation stopped running, and cars weren't allowed to drive into the city. She was afraid to walk over the bridge, so she stayed in work all day. Eventually she walked home, from 1 borrow to the next.

That day has never left me, so I can't even begin to imagine how families and friends who lost someone felt, and of course, still feels. My cousin's friend, Brittany's father, was the only person I knew that left us that day.

And I'm sorry everyone for writing what now seems more like a blog post, than an SO post. I just don't talk about this too much, and needed a place to vent (if that's the right word for this).

All in all, I'm glad we're all here discussing what probably was the darkest day a lot of us have ever, and will ever see...My sympathy goes out to those who lost someone, and to those who are still touched by this horrible tragedy.

MY CITY OF RUINS by Bruce Springsteen

As performed for "America: A Tribute to Heroes", september 21, 2001

This is a prayer for our fallen brothers and sisters.

There is a blood red circle
on the cold dark ground
and the rain is falling down
The church door's blown open
I can hear the organ's song,
but the congregation's gone

My city of ruins
My city of ruins

Now the sweet bells of mercy
drift through the evening trees,
young men on the corner
like scattered leaves,
the boarded up windows,
the empty streets
While my brother's down on his knees

My city of ruins
My city of ruins

Come on, rise up!
Come on, rise up!
Come on, rise up!
Come on, rise up!
Come on, rise up!
Come on, rise up!

Now's there's tears on the pillow,
darlin' where we slept
and you took my heart when you left
Without your sweet kiss
my soul is lost, my friend
Tell me how do I begin again?

My city's in ruins
My city's in ruins

Now with these hands,
with these hands,
with these hands,
I pray lord
With these hands,
with these hands,
I pray for the strength, Lord
With these hands,
with these hands,
I pray for the faith, Lord
We pray for your love, Lord
We pray for the lost, Lord
We pray for this world, Lord
We pray for the strength, Lord
We pray for the strength, Lord

Come on
Come on
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up
Come on, rise up

Every September 11th people around here gather to remember those lost and it never fails to hear Toby Keith's song "The Angry American." I think it's so fitting. The feeling it brings to people is amazing.

American Girls and American Guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see Ole Glory Flying
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our head

My daddy served in the army
Where he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free.

Now this nation that I love
Has fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flying in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man, we lit up your world
Like the 4th of July

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Ahhh Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Ohhh Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And you'll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
'Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam
Put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty
Started shaking her fist
And the eagle will fly
And there's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom
Start ringing her bell
And itll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you
Brought to you Courtesy of the Red White and Blue

Uhhh Ohhh
Of the Red, White and Blue
Ohhh Ohh Oh
Of My Red, White and Blue

I would NEVER forget this day, my twin sister and I just graduated from college three months before... to lose my sis three months later after a special moment of our lives was a crushing blow. She was going to get married to her childhood sweetheart and everything was going to be perfect, god, I will never forget!!!

I'll honestly never forget. I was 16 and had just started my junior year in HS three weeks prior. It still makes me angry to think about that day... All these innocent people killed for absolutely no reason, other than a man's selfish act. But he was sadly mistaken by how quickly we would rebound from this day in history. The US isn't a third-world country, that's for sure.

I HIGHLY recommend reading the book, 102 Minutes. It's a whole bunch of personal accounts from WTC employees put into one book. The authors who put this book together collected as many emails, texts, phone calls, etc. as they could from people who perished in the towers, and the others who escaped in time. It's one hell of a really touching book, something everybody should read, because this is a book of personal accounts from when history was ACTUALLY HAPPENING that day.

I can't believe it's been six years.

OH Nuts!
09-10-2007, 11:13 PM
I've lived in NYC for over 30 yrs now, so I lived through 9/11 and worked 6 blocks south of the WTC at the time. Ofen during my lunch breaks I would go to the WTC to browse & shop. I normally took the subway that goes under the WTC at abt 8:45-8:50 except that Tues I had an early Dr's appt and took the bus down B'way instead. We were told to exit the bus @ Chambers St. and I walked to work & got there at about 8:55-9:00. After the 2nd attack everyone from my bldg was evacuated and we walked over to the E. River. And started walking up town. We turned to look back when we got to Canal St. and it was THE MOST HORRIBLE THING I EVER SAW...LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE TITANIC. But everyone in the city (and the country) banded together and we got through this. It made me rethink life, my purpose what was really important. Every day we're here on this planet is a gift and I never take it for granted. I'LL NEVER FORGET and I know that goes for MANY OTHERS too.

Here's some info about the towers; They were designed by an architect named Minoru Yamasaki(December 1, 1912 – February 6, 1986). The US Postal Service should honor him with a stamp!!
