I've bought every edition since 1979. I wonder if someone will give it to me for Christmas or force me to buy it myself? This one will probably be over $30. I think the first edition was about $12.
Skywalker 09-06-2007, 11:44 PM About time! I need a new one. The last and only one I bought was the 1999 edition. It doesn't even have a cover anymore and the pages are starting to fall out. I still use it about once a week. The only bad thing about this new edition will be seeing all those reality shows listed.
catlover79 09-06-2007, 11:48 PM I think the three of us are the most anti-reality show people on this board. GOOD!

Trust me, Nobody on this board despises reality shows more than I do. ;)
I'll probably get the book as gift just like the last few years. This thing comes in mighty handy when it's time to play radio contests. :)
TVFactFan 09-06-2007, 11:57 PM I bought the edition up to the 2003 season but I really don't see the point in buying the updated edition because it's not like the new edition will have revised past info, just new info for shows between 2003-2007 and I already know about that era-lol
comedyfreak 09-07-2007, 01:07 AM I have one from 2003 and I can't find it :(
Adamantium 09-07-2007, 04:42 PM I'be bought the last three editions, and my dad owns the very first edition, which I believe is the '79 one. Everytime I go into a bookstore, I always check to see if they have an updated version. Even though I don't techinally need it, what with the internet, I still like to have one on hand.
I'm glad a new one's coming out. :)
SBTB Geek 09-07-2007, 05:43 PM I thought the internet has rendered those type of books useless.

I think so because everything that's in that book can be found on the Internet-lol I depend mainly on old tv guides, magazines, and newspapers for TV information. That book probably was very useful in 1989, but not today
bingbangbaby 09-07-2007, 09:58 PM I have two, one from 1995 and one newer than that (the last one published). I use them all the time because if I have the right piece of information, I can find things faster there than on the internet, believe it or not. It's also a place to have related info all in one place. It's also nice to have it sitting right there by my tv (where my computer isn't) and be able to get to info quickly. I'm looking forward to buying the new one. :) I also have my TV Guide Film and Video Companion and my copy of Leonard Maltin's 2006 Movie Guide right there too, and I also use those all the time. ;)

Same here!
Cool! I love this book. I have had a few editions, the 2003 (8th) is my latest one.
I will read the new one cover to cover.
catlover79 09-08-2007, 11:21 PM I'm glad to be the bearer of good news! I can't wait. Does anyone remember that one of the authors did a companion book called The Complete Directory of Primetime STARS? I believe the last edition of that tome was made in the 1980s. I wish THAT book would be updated, too!!
Classicshowsgurl15 09-09-2007, 08:41 PM I want this book. I will have to put it on my wishlist.
bencasey 09-09-2007, 08:53 PM I much prefer McNeil's Total Television.
Adamantium 09-09-2007, 10:09 PM I much prefer McNeil's Total Television.
I used to have that book. I don't like it better, however, I do like that they include all shows and not just primetime shows. Still, though, if they'd update it, I'd buy that book too. Pretty much when I go to the book store (not very often) if I see a good TV book, I'll buy it.

I had that book too and although it does cover all television, this book goes into much more detail.
Jude The Obscure 09-10-2007, 01:14 PM Anybody remember "Harry and Wally's Favorite TV Shows"? Last edition, 1989!! I still have my copy and still refer to it often.

Jude The Obscure 09-10-2007, 10:00 PM I always wonder why they never did an updated edition--of course, if they did one now--it would have be two volumes!!
bencasey 09-14-2007, 12:16 AM In some ways Harry and Wally is the best book in that they give opinions and views of shows whereas the others just give the information. So if you were unfamiliar with a series, at least with H&W you could get an idea if the show was any good or not. I happen to agree with about 98% of their ratings of shows.
