When I "clicked here" I was directed to LAST WEEK'S RANT THREAD. Just to let you know.

Anyhoo, Solomon, what can I say. You are right. Why give BN a celebration when other shows have had their anniversaries? What abt when Aaron Spelling passed away, where was the memorial by airing maybe a few of his hit shows? That would have been nice.

It was a good rant. Simple and to the point. I agree about Bob Newhart. Why give his show a marathon and not other shows? This could also be a test for the network to see if it does well enough to add fulltime, but besides that, I don't see any real point for it at all.

I see your views on TubeTime. For people like me, who are proud (in less extent) payers to Comcast, and when I watch TubeTime I want to see shows I can't find anywhere else. They've been airing WTB? season 1 now since it came, so why not move on? But then, there are other people who may not afford to buy the season 1 DVD, and can watch it for free at TubeTime.

Don't forget, TV Land made a Bob Newhart statue, honoring his character, Bob Hartley. So TV Land is obviously a fan of "The Bob Newhart Show."

And I was directed over to last week's rant and kept trying to figure out why everyone was talking about the weather. lol

And why celebrate a 35th anniversary for one sitcom and not the other? Maude started the same season and is getting no kind of celebration this month and just like BN, not on the TV land schedule. I can see celebrating the 50th anniversary of a show but 35th? I never heard of a 35th anniversary celebration until 2007-lol

I'm sure in 5 years we'll see the 40th anniversary too. There are many shows on their lineup, or not on their lineup that we're more popular than BN, that they could have done an anniversary special for. The Jeffersons' had its 30th in 2005, and they did nothing. I Love Lucy had its 55th anniversary, which is quite an accomplshment, and it went unnoticed last year. I guess they must be huge fanatics about the show over there. That almost makes me want to hope that no one watches it.

It was a disgrace how TV Land treated Aaron Spelling. They should have had a marathon of his best shows.

They have done 35th anniversaries before, Beverly Hillbillies and Brady Bunch comes to mind. Usually they do anything like 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, etc. They did a Soap 25th, Three's Company 25th, Brady Bunch 30th, Three's Company 30th, Hillibllies 35th, Brady 35th, MASH 35th, Trek 40th, Andy 45th, etc.

If I had to schedule anniversaries, I would only schedule for 25th, 30th, 40th, and 50th, but all the others really seem kind of pointless.

I doubt we'll see The Jeffersons 35th. If we do, it won't be in January. It'll probably by in August or something like that.

TVLand missed the Munsters 40th anniversary as well, and it was even being aired then. It is horrible because all the cast but Fred Gwynn were still alive and the house still stood. Since then two people have died and Desperate Housewives destroyed the house. Truly sad!

This was probably the most pointless rant, I think, out of any of the rants that have been posted.

Who CARES whether or not "The Bob Newhart Show" is not airing on TVLand regularly? The fact that it ISN'T is reason enough to be happy about this. TVLand rarely does anything that involves shows not on their schedule anymore, which is sad, because back in the 1990s and early 2000s, both TVLand and Nick-at-Nite made it a point to showcase other shows during marathons and such. I'm overjoyed for the TBNS marathon and can't wait to watch it. Yes, it absolutely sucks that they didn't celebrate other shows' anniversaries in the past, but that is no reason to bitch about them celebrating this show's. Do you want them to believe that we don't want to see a marathon of a 1970s show, when they would probably prefer to air another movie?

And in regards to the whole Comcast Tube Time thing, all I can say is that not everybody has the money to rush out and buy every season of their favorite show on DVD. No matter how obsessed you are with a particular show, most fans are not that involved and would rather watch their favorite shows for free instead of paying $20-$50 for them.

Well, yeah, that's the valid point. But it comes across as if he's saying that they shouldn't do any anniversary celebrations at all. It would be ideal for every show to get their due, but I'm willing to take as much as I can get.

And no, Solomon, most teenagers without jobs don't have the money to buy their favorite shows on DVD. I wish I did, but I don't.

I have nothing against BN but I can understand the frustration when a show you really like has a milestone anniversary that's ignored. It reminds me of the workplace sometimes....certain people are "special"--they get the balloons and the cake delivered to their cubicles on their birthdays but the guy sitting in the cubicle right next to them watches his birthday come and go without so much as a "happy birthday." You're either the "special" one or you're not.

I'm not qualified to crticize the Bob Newhart show because i never seen it so just want to make it clear that this rant wasn't a Bob Newhart Bashing Thread. It was more of a poking Fun at TV Land's decision to honor Bob Newhart and not Maude which started the same year.

Um...okay...Just a hint, though. If you're going to air your "rants" out on a fairly popular website's blog, you should be ready to take in the criticisms that readers are going to have. You can't tell everybody who disagrees to just "ignore the rants from here on out."

So because TV Land does one anniversary we should be grateful. That network is supposed to show classic shows all the time.

I know! Have I ever given anybody a reason to believe that I disagree with the above statement? I'm just saying that despite what the intent of this week's rant (which, if I have it right, I actually do agree with...why have so many shows been passed over?), I, and possibly others, might have gotten the idea that Solomon thinks the TBNS marathon shouldn't happen. I've seen many of my favorite shows' anniversaries pass by and TVLand have pretty much ignored them too. "The Love Boat" celebrates its 30th anniversary this year...no marathon. I am almost 100% sure that when "The Donna Reed Show" turns 50 next year, nothing will happen. Nothing for "Laverne & Shirley" last year either. Hell, "Cheers" celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and I don't think that they'll even do anything for that, which used to be one of the pet shows in the N@N/TVL hub. So, you see, I agree completely with what everybody else is saying. I just disagree with the way Solomon put it in his rant. I think there was just a bit too much negativity. It sucks that TVLand constantly ignores shows, but it is indeed a tiny glimmer of hope that they actually thought of doing this for TBNS. I hope it's a sign of things to come, but I don't know.

He wasn't looking debate in a fun way with facts to back up his argument so I reported him for his attack. So it's no need to take him serously because he never posted in a rant thread until today.

What the......okay. Facts have nothing to do with any of this. You posted a rant for the public. A member of the public disagreed with it. I don't need "facts" to back up something that is my opinion. Tell me, what "facts" should I have used to back my opinion up?

Oooh, nice analogy. I like that.

TVland would have the time to devote to anniversaries and show mini-marathons if they GOT RID OF THOSE DAMN MOVIES AND ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING.

As for Solomon's rant, I think it is great. He has yet to miss a beat so far.

Yes, let's be appreciative of any classic show that should get airtime that hasn't been aired, but don't treat it any different from any other show that should happen to have a milestone.

Like I said, with the death of Aaron Spelling, there should have been something to acknowledge the man who brought television more shows than anyone.

Oh believe me, nobody was as pissed me when TVLand announced their plans for memorializing Aaron. Let's show an episode of "I Love Lucy," and "Gunsmoke" too! At their regular times, too! That's special! How's that for a tribute?!

Psh. Psh, psh, psh. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you can program an entire cable channel with just Spelling shows. I know. I've even made a schedule for it. It's criminal how much his work has been ignored.

I really don't mind the Bob Newhart Show anniversary marathon, it's a rare show that doesn't air on tv much anymore. However, I agree that they shouldn't play favorites. If they're gonna have an anniversary marathon for TBNS, then they should have them for other classic shows as well.

The biggest problem I have with TBNS marathon is it's airing at the same time as Monday Night Football. They certainly could have picked a better day to have the marathon.

Good Lord, people, I never said that I disagreed with the intent of the rant. I just thought it was worded wrong. In my very first post in this thread, I said that it is a shame that N@N and TVLand don't use special marathons as a way of airing shows not on their schedule anymore. I miss them doing that. I remember back in 2003, when the "CBS at 75" special aired, TVLand did a thing where they re-aired CBS's Saturday night lineup from 1975. That was awesome because several of those shows weren't on the channel at the time. And I don't think I even need to mention how much I absolutely enjoyed the Warner Bros. 50th anniversary weekend from 2005. NONE of the shows that aired that weekend were on TVLand's regular schedule at the time.

Yes I did say that! Go back and read my very first post in this thread! I do believe the rant was pointless. If the purpose of Solomon's rants is to bring attention to the problems that he are ranting about, I simply believe that by using the TBNS marathon as a way to bring up the fact that TVLand has ignored so many other shows' anniversaries, he is making it seem as if we don't want to see any anniversary marathons for any shows at all.

I agree with you, about radio stations. The good old songs from the 1950's.1960's and 1970's have been replaced by songs that THEY think are classics(from the 1960's,1970's,and1980's.)And I agrere with you about TVLand,as well.TVLand and all the rest (Hallmark,ION,)are the same way.But don't forget:THEY have the FINAL SAY as to what is aired and what isn't aired. And ratings have a lot to do with it.and a lot of other stuff.

I completely agree with you on that one.

Right, he did, and that's why I don't have a problem with it anymore.

For the record, I agree whole-heartedly with most of what has been said in this thread.

And I'm not really ranting, It's more of me poking fun at things connected to TV Shows and TV stations or Cable. I have gotten away from complaining and just started basically laughing at things I think is silly in the World of Television.

Good and interesting rant Solomon. It doesn't seem fair to pick and choose who gets tributes. Not much in life is fair, lol.

Keep 'em coming!

Good post. I mean, if you are running a classic tv network, who is to say who gets tributes and who doesn't? You should honor ALL shows for the laughs they brought forth and for simply being classic. If it wasn't for those shows, we wouldn't have many shows now that would be here entertaining us.

If TV Land picked up Bob Newhart I would watch since I never seen it before but the marathon is too minor for me to see if I like the show or not
