I found one of the teachers from my high school on Facebook. The same one I hated so much because she didn't give me a chance to do journalism in high school when I was a junior, because she allowed SOPHOMORES to be on the newspaper staff (at the time, the paper was open only to juniors and seniors. Sophomores had to get special permission from a certain teacher before submitting their application to her). What made me even more mad about that was the fact she ****ing knew SIGN LANGUAGE too - her grandparents were hearing impaired too. And get this - her ****ing grandparents went to THE SAME DEAF SCHOOL I WENT TO.

That was six years ago when this happened and I'm still not over it because damn she was a ****ing royal BITCH to me. I even had a part in my Facebook biography that dissed her for a while (since long removed, when I did a major revamp several months ago).

I'm not wild about the town I live in, but I'm literally like three blocks away from a major artery that eventually turns into a freeway outside city limits. This artery in question leads me directly to the MOA - just one turn off at an exit and I'm there. Or I can go a little further and turn off on the 494 to get to the airport.

And I'm REALLY close to an ACTUAL airport. Not the pu$$y one in my hometown. If I want to go to NYC, I can. No layovers. Just a direct flight there. If I want to go to NOLA, I can. Direct flight. I can fly to my hometown and back for less than $200.

I had no idea of this until I started journalism in college, being that I had never done high school journalism because of that bitch. And this was for a MONTHLY paper. Amy is working for a paper at a much bigger university that puts out the school paper far more often than monthly, if I recall.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. I'm in features, so we have 2 week deadlines but the news people have like 1-2 day deadlines. We have night editors and all kinds of crazy crap. I have no idea where or how they print it and how they get it out to all of the dorms and buildings and stuff, but they do it and it's awesome.

Our office looks like the one on Gilmore Girls. People sitting at desks making phone calls with computers and running around like crazy. It's exciting.

We had NOTHING like that... It was basically anywhere from 12 to 20 staff members putting together a paper for 3,000 students. No night editors or any of that crap. The editor-in-chief and the journalism advisor would often work well into the wee hours of morning to meet deadlines. I started working for my college's paper in August of 2004 as a reporter. Then I got promoted to an editor position in January of 2005, and that was when the crazy hours started. We would have weekly meetings at 3pm on Wednesday, right after my pilates class (I believe I came in at 2 for that class). I would often stay after until anywhere from 5 to 8pm. I was an editor again the 2005-2006 school year, and my hours were just downright nuts. Especially when we were getting ready to go to NYC for the CMA journalism convention.

Well, Brooklyn and Queens are on the west end of Long Island. Queens is where JFK is at. So you won't be far away, at least... maybe just a train ride away on the LIRR.

Karen, hon, this is the east coast we're talking about. It's not like the west coast, where you have to get around with your own car. NY/NJ/PA/CT/MA have public transportation that will take you to NYC. They do NYC/DC trains, too. It's NYC baby... you're more than covered with transportation. :)

I'm not too wild about Los Angeles itself... it's awesome and all that... Downtown is hella cool. But it is so goddamn SLUMMY in so many parts, and the graffiti there is pretty evenly matched with NYC.

I know someone who lives in Los Angeles (just down the street from Pasadena) and they have a 500 sq ft house that they brought for like $375,000. I went inside his house... holy ****, TINY. The nicer, but not ritzy, two-story houses fetch about $2 million. Housing costs in that area SUCK.

Personally, I'm a fan of the coastal towns in southern California (Huntington Beach is one of my faves), and anything north of LA.

Our school has a tv station and a radio station too, so there's stuff for Broadcast majors to do.
