Other than the part where they start dancing and maybe the part at the beginning where Don Adams is dressed like a hippie...I didn't think this episode was too great.

Of course, maybe it's jsut me...I've heard wonderful things about how classic this eppy was -- so maybe I was expecting too much.

Its always been one of my fave episodes, but, I think it has more to do with the silly "Hollywood" version of the 60s Hippies thing.............my fave part is when Max contemplates the Hippie girl's navel...instead of his own! :lol:
One "hole" in the plot is that Max and 99s heartbeats are amplified by the giant amplifyer, but, their whispers and footsteps arent! :crazy:

I haven't seen that eppy in YEARS; but from what I remember; I agree-it is overrated.
I think that one was made when the BATMAN show was at it's height of popularity; and they were getting a litle "Batmanish" with their villians sometimes.

Well, you have to admit that "The Sacred Cows" were so rediculous, that they were hilarious! :crazy:

For someone new to Get Smart, this is one episode to avoid until you've seen most of the others. The Groovy Guru is one of those episodes that "jumps the shark". I think overall, season three of Get Smart is the weakest season.

Well, its all pretty subjective, Ive always thought of the 1967-68 season as the best one (I've never seen season 5, but, I'm sure thats the one most likely to be the worst, since theyd pretty much run out of ideas, apparently)

The Groovy Guru is one of my favorite episodes and one of the highlights of season 3. That's just my opinion though. It was definitely one of the more silly episodes. ;)

Season five is actually pretty good, some fans say it's their favorite season. A few episodes are clunkers, but the majority of season five episodes are worthy of a thumbs up. If you check out the favorite season poll on this board, seven people have responded so far and five of them say season five is their favorite. I've never cared much for season three. Watching some of those episodes, it seems like the series was starting to get stale. Some episodes though from the third season are good. I think the show got a little better again with seasons four and five. Max and 99 got married in season four, and the twins came along in season five. It seems with the last two seasons, the writers regained some of the inspiration that was present in seasons one and two.

Another thing I don't like about season three is 99's hair. Barbara Feldon let her hair grow out as the series went on, in season three her hair was at that in-between stage. Her hair was about shoulder length and the style was straight and flat. Not attractive at all. In the last two seasons her hair had grown longer, past the shoulders and had a nicer looking hair style.

Well, like I said, its all pretty subjective..."The Get Smart Handbook" rates many of my fave episodes poorly, while I find many of their high rated eps as among the the lamest......it would be unlikely that everyone would choose the same eps their choice for bests.
The reason ive never seen season 5 is that strange clause in the syndication contract that makes showing the 5th season more trouble than its worth , to distributors. ( I'm sure you know what im reffering to )

The song though is stupid -- the whole "Sacred Cows" thing is stupid.

And yes...I was wondering that too. If they can walk around and whisper, why is it not coming up on the amplifiing system -- but yet their heartbeats can??

Max had taken a lie pill, which helped for a little while. It did eventually effect him though. Since 99 didn't take one, it effected her right away. When the Groovy Guru left, the music stopped so I guess they were able to block the song out of their mind enough to be able to stop the broadcast.

Ive read several interviews with Barbara Feldon, where she admitted that she had "very fine" hair that didnt photograph well.....what we were actually seeing wasnt her actual hair, but wigs and hair extensions!

As far as I know, that's Barbara Feldon's own hair we see in the episodes. Occasionally, she may have worn a wig in some episodes as part of a disguise. I'm not an expert on hair styles, but I don't think hair extensions were commonly used in the 60's.
Actually, wigs and hair extensions were huge in the late 60s ( They even used to sell them on the back covers of comic books! :lol: )...along with the phoniest false eyelashes you ever saw! and as I said, Barb Feldon used these beauty aids as much as possible.

Yes- fake hair was a big thing in the 60s. I've read that Barbara Feldon admitted that she wore wigs and hairpieces in most of the episodes although I read somewhere that in the third season she does wear her own hair sometimes. In some episodes it is very obvious that she is wearing fake hair or a full wig. Her best hairdo was the ponytail hairstyle in year 4 which was one of the most natural looking hairdos that she had. Funny that her hair does grow out throughout season 3 so whatever wigs or fake hair she was using that season had were correspondingly longer from week to week. Her hair in the last season episodes that I've seen (haven't seen most, but have seen screen caps online and bloopers) is obviously an attachment.

Well, as she explained it she had "Very fine hair, that didnt photograph well"....mind you, she didnt explain WHAT she meant by that...perhaps it made her hair look "thin" on film???

In the 4th season when she has the ponytail hairstyle if you look closely you'll notice that the ponytail is hair that is tied in a knot- nobody would knot their own hair like that (OUCH). Some episodes where it is very obvius that she has on a wig: Diplomat's Daughter, Kisses for KAOS, Now You See Him Now You Don't, many of the shows in season 2, The Secret Of Sam Vittorio, most of the last season.
