I was on self checkout today at work and I heard something that made me upset and sad. I overheard an adorable little girl who was about 7 or 8 ask if her aunt thought that she was fat for her age. This girl was perfectly normal and healthy looking! Of course her aunt told that she was perfect but the girl said "you're just saying that." She seemed like such a sweetheart I hope her family gets through to her that her weight is fine. It's hard enough growing up without having to obsess about your weight. :(

That is sad - and I wish nothing but the best for this girl.

There is a lot wrong with our society, it's true. That's one of them.

Now, to get back to my brooding...

When I was ten, my older brother made me feel like I was fat. I was not very
athletic, and it was hard to go by the glass door of an apartment building and see my "FAT" reflection in the mirror. I didn't realize there was nothing wrong with me at that age.

Of course, in my mid-40's, I am overweight (not kidding). ohno:

These Lay's sour cream and onion potato chips sure are good. :liplick: :eat:

It doesn't help when you get mixed signals. I have one person telling me I'm fat and another person telling me I need to gain weight. It's frustrating. My mother thinks I'm too thin and my sister thinks I'm too fat. My mother said that 120 is a good weight for me, but I look thinner than that.

What does your doctor tell you? He's the only opinion you should be concerned about, regarding weight.

That's true. Life is hard enough without having to feel self-conscience. That poor little girl. I think society is too focused on the 'perfect' image. You have to be thin, pretty, etc. I've never been happy with my weight or appearance.

My sister has a major weight problem. That makes the rest of us a little more weight centered then we might be if she didn't have a weight problem because we don't want to have a weight problem. We know just how hard it is on people who do. I'm now 120 pounds (according to the scale yesterday) and I'm not happy with that. I know that 120 is a very good weight, but I still don't like how I look. It doesn't help when you get mixed signals. I have one person telling me I'm fat and another person telling me I need to gain weight. It's frustrating. My mother thinks I'm too thin and my sister thinks I'm too fat. My mother said that 120 is a good weight for me, but I look thinner than that.
It all comes back to your height vs. weight ratio. Check it on a BMI calculator or something. :)
