Damm I didn't know it was around since 1984, I just saw on a commercial that they are offering a large pizza for 23 cents if u big a large pizza. Papa John's was not in Philly in the 90's. I never even heard of it until this decade

I never had any before like 2005 lol, but it's my favorite pizza in the area. And, it just moved higher up my overall list because it's having a "Tour de Cheesestick" sale in honor of my Tour de France lol!

My favorite pizza place ever is still Imo's, but I'm not sure if anyone's ever heard of it?

Wow, Papa John's has been around that long?? I think they've only been in the Cleveland area since the mid-90s. In any case, congrats to them. :D

I'm not sure about them as carnival food. I thought it was a southern thing but then I saw a story about a place in NYC that deep-frys just about anything, including Twinkies & Snickers bars. So I would think that pickles are on the menu, too.

Even though I am not terribly fond of pizza, the best is at a place called, The California Kitchen. I am not sure if they have that chain in your neck of the woods, but there are a couple of them in San Diego (Solana Beach and La Jolla); their pizzas are to die for..absolutely delicious!
As a matter of fact, we have one in our mall in Ventura. Which is only abt 15 minutes away. And you are right, their pizza is to die for. YUMMY!!!!!;) :D

I also love their spaghetti. Very deeeeeelish.

I seen on the food channel when they were showing foods that are sold at county fairs/carnivals and they showed how the fried twinkies are cooked. People were buying them like crazy. :crazy:

Is that related to the California Pizza Kitchen? The closest one to me is at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek. I ate at one three years ago on a trip to Washington, D. C. I'd go more often, but the store is not that convenient since I tend to go in the afternoons (not pizza eating time!). Their frozen foods are available at the Kroger grocery I frequent.

OK, back to the subject at hand, I remember first seeing Papa John's where I grew up in the greater Cincinnati area in the summer of 1991. I remember it being after Operation Desert Storm/the first Gulf War. I enjoyed eating it. Unfortunately as the chain grew I stopped eating it since chains' quality goes down as they expand.

I think they started somewhere in southern Indiana before relocating their headquarters across the Ohio River to Louisville.

I can't believe it's been around that long either. I think the first time I had heard of the place was around 1998!
