around the couch with their arms stuck out like J.J in the season 5 opening credits was from an actual episode?-lol I used always say to myself-"what episode is that from I don;t remember that scene-lol

No it was a scene that was just made for the opening credits because in the first ep of season 5, penny is not walking around the couch with willona, j.j. thelma, and michael, it's not until she was introuduced to the show. That's how i knew it wasn't from an actual episode

Actually, it was from an actual episode. I saw the episode recently but can't remember the name. I'm not like you, Solomon. I don't read the titles of the episodes.....I didn't back then and I don't now.

I seem to recall during the first run that they were singing to a song and for the life of me I think it had something to do with a bee...or am I thinking of another episode? I know that scene exists though, I remember it from the first run.

That scene is not from a EPISODE, it has two versions in the opening credits

In the first ep of season 5, In the opening credits Willona, J.J, Michael, and Thelma are walking around the couch without Penny because no one knew who she was yet because she had yet to be introduced. But later in the season, Penny is seen walking with them around the couch in the opening because by mid season viewers were familiar with the penny character

You couldn't have saw that scene because no of them are saying anything-LOL When they are walking around the couch they are just smiling and not talking. So why would a scene like that be in a episode?????????? There is no such scene in a season 5 ep

I believe J.J. was singing a song and then they started dancing imitating something, I believe they were imitating J.J. with that thing he does with his hands, they were just going around the couch and the audience was laughing.

I never seen it on the DVD, but I know that the DVD's are not 100 percent perfect. My understanding is that the Columbia House versions are the only sets that have GT UNCUT, UNEDITED, etc. That's what I read.

If someone here has that set, they can answer that question. I just know I seen it during its first run. I think I seen it during ONE SYNDICATION, but have never seen it since that syndicated time, which was ages ago.

That scene was one of those "filler" moments.

Was that the episode where they were all cleaning and JJ was sitting on the couch not cleaning, And he asked Thelma for a glass of water and she filled his glass up with some dirty cleaning water???? Or am I imagining things or was that from another episode?

No, I'm talking about the scene in the season 5 opening credits with The cast walking around the couch with their arms out like J.J. I was saying that scene was created only for opening credits, it's not from an actual episode. Kind of like on happy days when Al spills a plate of fries on Richie, Postie, and Ralph, that wasn;t from a episode, just created for opening credits

I don't have to back it up. I KNOW that I saw the episode and that's all you need to know. Why do you always have to have proof of everything? Maybe if you go back and look at ALL the episodes of ALL the seasons, you will find it. All I know is that it was NOT a created scene for the opening credits.

Looking at the clothes, the scene with them walking around the Couch was from "The Evans Get Involved", Part 4. This scene was NOT actually in the episode, it was just for the Opening credits. I think it was an outtake. Also, there was a scene on the Season 6 opening credits with Keith and Thelma out in the hallway with him doing a funny move and Thelma looking at him in a somewhat angry face. That was an OUTTAKE from "Florida's Homecoming, part 2". There have been many cases like that in various TV shows. I like looking at opening credits and trying to find out which scene came from which episode. I believe I had a post on here a little while ago about the opening credit scenes for this show. I'll see if I can find it and reference it. But, that's just my take on this particular scene.

Exactly, the clothes they are wearing is from the evans get involved but where in the hell would that HAPPY SCENE with them walking around the couch fit in that 4 parter?-lol Also the scene you mentioned with Keith and Thelma in the hallway is from part 1 of florida's homecoming. I was finally able to see it on the columbia house version. TV one for some reason cut that scene out and I'm not sure if it's on the DVD

I just checked my DVD's and there's something weird about that opening credit scene. The first one they show is with JJ, Thelma, Michael and Willona strutting around the couch, without Penny, and they have the clothes on from Pt. 4. After the Penny 4 part episodes, the opening credits have the scene with Penny strutting along with them, but she has the brown sweater on and a red scarf around her neck that she wore in Pt. 3. But those two scenes were not in those episodes on the DVD.

Yup, Penny wasn't shown yet because no one new about her on sept 21, 1977. But in october of 1977, viewers were familiar with her and she was walking around the couch with the other cast members. But the main point is, if there were two versions in the opening credits how could it be in a Episode?-lol Been trying to make that point for two days now

Ok, this is what I have in my head, if may sound loopy, but I am going from memory here.

J.J. was talking and then started to say something, almost like singing, he began to do that "dance" and the others followed suit, meanwhile, Penny WAS THERE, but she was standing by the door while the group went around the couch, she was smiling and laughing, THEN, she got in on the action and went around the couch with the group. Hence, why you see the group going around the couch WITHOUT PENNY AT FIRST, and then another scene WITH PENNY...it was one scene. God, I can almost here what J.J. was saying/singing but I can't remember that fine detail. Wasn't it something like a butterfly or bee song?

I also told you that Columbia House has scenes that you don't see on syndication. You just stated above Solomon that you finally seen that "hallway scene" with Keith and Thelma on Columbia House, so don't you think the same thing applies to this "missing" scene?

The opening credit is from "Evan's get involved pt4" and I just watched the whole episode on DVD and Penny appears at the very end of the episode when she come in and hug Wilona, and by then everyone was in different clothes. So That scene was either cut out or it's just the cast fooling around when they had some free time. Because in the episode JJ doesn't even sit on the couch, everyone sits at the kitchen table.

I forgot to add to my post above...this scene ^^^^ was in the Evans Get Involved. The reason for J.J. singing (?) and the family going around the couch was because I think they were trying to cheer up Penny or make her laugh.

All I know is that Willona is wearing that outfit when she meets with the social worker from the adoption agency, so we at least know what episode it is supposed to be. Why, out of all the opening scenes, would that be the only one where it was "filmed solely for the opening"? That doesn't make sense.

I know that scene exists and not just in my mind.
