I'll tell you this Charlie, I NEVER saw the movie nor EVER will see it. They are selling them on ebay for one cent plus postage. I would not spend one penny to buy it so I could burn it. It's not worth a penny. Jackie, Art and Audrey must be rolling over in their graves with this god awful remake of the Honeymooners. Evidently some writer thought it would be "cool or hip" to re-write the characters. It didnt work. It failed miserably. I dont have a problem with doing an updated version of the Honeymooners. But dont take them out of the 50's and put them in the world of today. I do promise you this Charlie, If ever I do ever happen to have the opportunity to destroy a cassette or DVD of this piece of crap, consider it GONE!! Thanks I needed to vent on this matter.

The previews were enough to turn me off from it. Worse yet, the other night I found that there's been a remake of Gleason's beloved 'Gigot,' called 'The Wool Cap.'

Here's the description:

William H. Macy co-writes and stars as a broken man bereft of love, family, and his very voice in a made-for-TV film based on an original story by the legendary Jackie Gleason (THE HONEYMOONERS). Gigot (Macy) is a mute war veteran who lost his vocal cords in a tragic car accident that killed his sister. Wracked by guilt and grief, Gigot cut all ties with his family to live a life of self-imposed exile as the superintendent for a rundown, inner-city tenement. After 28 years of emotional solitude, Gigot's lonely existence is shattered by the arrival of Lou (Keke Palmer), a spunky but troubled 12-year-old whose drug-addict mother has abandoned her. At first wary of each other, the two unlikely roommates forge a genuinely touching bond that blossoms into a father-daughter relationship and prompts Gigot to make amends with his own estranged family. Warm and uplifting without caving in to sentimentality, THE WOOL CAP is a poignant character study of two damaged souls offering each other a shot at healing and redemption. Ned Beatty, Catherine O'Hara, and Don Rickles offer fine supporting roles, and newcomer Palmer displays a knowing maturity that belies her young age, but the film belongs to the always brilliant Macy, who turns in a stellar performance that conveys layers of emotional depth without ever saying a word.

Why is Hollywood so out of ideas that they only stoop to make remakes and then 'trash' them up? And put black actors in the roles that were made famous by whites? I shudder to think of what the 'Hawaii Five-O' remake will be like. The reason why the good old shows were good is because they were headed up with decent men with morals...

Okay, I'll come down off my soapbox now...temporarily...LOL

Take care,
Carol

Damn, I could sooo not agree MORE with what you just said! You'd think they'd learn...since most of the remakes done have been box office flops...that people just aren't interested in remakes -especially the way HollyWood does them-

Hollywood today lacks the creativity we saw many years ago. There has been a trend in "modernizing" classics, and it almost always fails miserably. Rather than trying to come up with a unique storyline, it's easier for these fools to put something out there that is readymade, and they expect people to "buy it" (both literally and figuratively) once they try cramming it down your throat.

Oh good! Now I will have another log to throw on the fire! Woo! Woo! I will have to watch it first, just to make it more enjoyable to burn. I think that remaking Gigot is not as bad as The Honeymooners, because it is not well known in the public eye. I'm sure there are millions of more people who have seen the show, versus the movie Gigot. I doubt there is anyone alive who hasn't heard "To the Moon Alice". That is what makes it more sad though. Now you put me in the mood to watch Gigot tonight! Sheesh, and I was planning on a HM marathon. I'll have ta do that manyana. SO if you don'yt mind, Asta La Vista! he he

Thanks for your good pernt Carol and it is nice to see you ova here at the board. Fenwick: You're a nice lady.

Well, I can already tell you to be prepared to be offended. When I see anything stronger than PG as in 'The Wool Cap' it's rated PG-13, I know it's either got some nudie scenes or a single 'F' word. I admit that I ain't no Saint by any means, but as sweet and innocent as Gleason's original attempt there is no room for anything unsavory... As frustrated as Ralph Kramden got with Ed Norton, there was never a curse word uttered. Even though bad language wasn't the norm for TV back then, it just proves that someone could get mad without scorching someone's ears or turning the air blue. The Honeymooners were good clean and down-right funny Entertainment that can be shared with ANYONE regardless of age! They got laughs without being risque or off color. If this show (and others from that era) still hold up now, why can't we get back to that type of comedy today? Is it really too difficult to be SIMPLE???

I would be willing to bet that the real Ralph and Alices of the time were cursing many a times, but that's not funny.

I would say that there is talent out there that are capable, but maybe the writers are afraid of taking on such a task. Then again, if you have read some of the HM scripts, you will notice that much of it wasn't spoken anyway, all add lib. Besides that, the newer generations won't be interested unless it has some dirt in it. How sad that is. All we can do is share the great shows from the past and get them in our everyday lives an hopefully they will catch the eye of todays youth.....
