View Full Version : 1950's music lyric game
Gwendy 07-16-2007, 06:31 PM You post lyrics from a song from the 1950's and someone guesses the song and singer(s) then if they want, they post lyrics for someone else to guess.
So first one:
"I was born one mornin' when the sun did'nt shine, picked up a shovel and I walked to the mine..."
Gwendy 07-23-2007, 05:34 PM I guess no one knows, its "Sixteen Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford, from the 1950's.
Next one:
Well, I was born a _____________________ In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Holler, we were poor, but we had love.....................
Coal Miners Daughter - Loretta Lynn ?
Gwendy 07-23-2007, 07:37 PM Very good annball1957, and remember whoever answers it correctly, if you can think of one post some lyrics of your own for someone to guess the song.
Next one:
Charlie's got a gold watch, don't seem like a whole lot, after thirty years of drivin' up and down the interstate................
Mikado 07-24-2007, 01:26 AM no idea......strangely, i should have known 16 tons....I guess I wasnt thinking *blush*
Gwendy 07-24-2007, 03:31 PM CLUE: this song won 3 big awards in 1988 and is sung by a female singer
AGAIN THE LYRICS ARE:
Charlie's got a gold watch, don't seem like a whole lot, after thirty years of drivin' up and down the interstate..........................
Gwendy 07-27-2007, 05:03 PM okay here are some more lyrics to this same particular song, maybe this will help:
Ten more miles on his four day run, a few more songs from the all night radio..............
another clue: the females initials are K.M.
Mikado 07-27-2007, 05:08 PM no idea  maybe we should expand this to other kinds of music...now if it were 50s...... ;)
Gwendy 07-27-2007, 05:21 PM okay the song is "18 Wheels And A Dozen Roses" by Kathy Mattea
its a great song so if you guys can give it a listen someday
For the next song, it's a Country song from the '50's
Here it is:
In 1814 we took a little trip, along with Colonel Jackson down the mightly Mississip, we took a little bacon and we took a little beans..................
note: I changed the title to 1950's Country Music lyric game
Mikado 07-27-2007, 08:35 PM Actually I meant 50s Rock n Roll
although what i was really saying was, open it to all kinds of popular music.....
anyway, the song is "the Battle of New Orleans" 1959, by Johnny Horton ;)
Gwendy 07-28-2007, 02:06 PM That is correct Mikado, it is indeed "The Battle Of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton, from 1959. And since a lot of Country songs from the 1950's were sorta rock n' rollish anyways and vice versa I have changed the title again to "1950's music lyric game".
So here is the next song for someone to guess:
The wise old owl, the big black crow, flapping them wings sayin' go bird go............
Mikado 07-28-2007, 09:37 PM Rockin Robin, Bobby Day, cant recall the year
Race's Girl 08-12-2007, 05:42 AM It was Rockin' Robin by Bobby Day from 1958
Mikado 08-13-2007, 06:13 PM Funny thing, Bobby Days REAL name was Bobby Bird...but, had he used his real name on a song called Rockin' Robin......Make up your own joke here!
Mikado 10-18-2007, 02:18 PM Well Zone, thats cause it started as a country music lyrics thread, but, no one wanted to play that, then i suggested she add all types of music (and cited how id like some 50s<i meant among other things ) and she misunderstood and turned it into a 50s music game and it died (I dont think shes posting anymore either)
