View Full Version : Is the remake of Hairspray any good?
waichingliu81 07-04-2007, 10:28 AM just wondering whether anyone has seen the remake of hairspray with michelle phieffer, john travolta, queen latifah and amanda bynes and if so is it any good, seeing as it is coming out in the UK in a week's time. thanks
GoldenGirlsFan92 07-04-2007, 04:44 PM We (The U.S.) haven't seen it yet. It dosen't come out unti July 20,2007. It looks like a good movie, and I plan to see it.

do any of the actors actually sing on the soundtrack, or are there actual singers and bands who sing renditions of the songs that are in the film?

that's interesting to hear. i will be looking forward to listening to the vocals of travolta, queen latifah, bynes and phieffer. although most of the main cast have had some previous singing/musical experience in one form or the other. likewise, travolta in Grease, latifah in chicago and as a old skool rap artist and phieffer in the fabulous baker boys
isiahthomas 07-13-2007, 07:58 PM LOL@John Travolta playing a woman in Hairspray hahahahahahahahahaha. He's lost his mind.

romanov1@suscom-main 07-20-2007, 05:09 PM I just got back from watching Hairspray in theaters and I loved it. It was really good and even my friend who hate musicals loved it.
CheersChild4life 07-21-2007, 04:58 PM I went and saw it last night. The theatre in my town sold out every show. It was amazing. I absolutely loved it. I'm definitely planning on seeing it again. Its a definite winner!

Steve Carras 10-15-2007, 11:20 PM See...my Avatar! (Why else would I select it!) And my signature!:D
Saw it starting 7/22/07 and saw it again four more times.
coffield3 10-15-2007, 11:26 PM It was ok but no-where near as good as the original, but remakes never are i guess. I just wanted to see john travolta in a dress lol!!
Mikado 10-15-2007, 11:57 PM It was ok but no-where near as good as the original, but remakes never are i guess. I just wanted to see john travolta in a dress lol!!

The 2007 movie was more of a reimagining, than a remake, IMO. They used the outline of the John Waters film, but put their own spin on it. I thought it was a fun movie. I'm probably going to buy it.
But if you feel the need to compare the 2, I agree that the original was better. It just had a different feel to it. That's a great Cult movie that seems timeless.
And Mikado, you just don't like it because it came out after 1957.
CheersChild4life 10-17-2007, 01:03 PM The movie version is great, but it pales in comparison to the Broadway version. John Travolta is no comparison the the Broadway Edna. But anyway, yeah I'm definitely going to buy the DVD.
waichingliu81 10-17-2007, 02:14 PM i have seen the john walters original when it was on tv a couple of years ago and thought it was really great and when i read there was going to be a remake of it, i didn't have any actual qualms about it. i have yet to purchse it though on dvd still and yet the casing in the 2007 version of hairspray was kinda impressive in its own right
