View Full Version : An Episode That You Just Didnt Like RoryGilmore 07-03-2007, 08:58 PM Okay I understand we're fans here and all but is there any FOL episdoe that you just really werent crazy about? Ireneparalegal 07-03-2007, 09:41 PM The one where Geri spent the night with that guy and Blair got all twisted abt it. catlover79 07-04-2007, 12:23 AM "Jo's Cousin" is my least favorite, followed by the one where Tootie had the meltdown over Jermaine Jackson. snl 70s show fan 07-04-2007, 04:39 AM The one where Geri spent the night with that guy and Blair got all twisted abt it.for some reason i was thinking about that ep today and how much i didnt like it ether RoryGilmore 07-04-2007, 11:10 AM I agree Cousin Geri Returns wasnt my fav at all yeah the one where Tootie throws the temper tantrum wasnt that great either...Jo's cousin didnt bother me that much...but then I havent managed to get season 3 yet so I havent seen it in ages....still think putting 3 and 4, if its out, on my Christmas list is my best bet. but I wasnt too crazy about Golden Oldies either. Nighthawk76 07-05-2007, 10:42 PM One of the great things about FOL is that out of 109 episodes there were very few actual bad ones. Still, there is no such thing as a perfect show. Every series has at least a couple of bad episodes. Here are the FOL episodes that just don't work for me: "The Facts of Love" There are two major reasons that I don't much like this episode. First off, I think that it is a little too preachy. The scene in the classroom where Mrs. Garrett is talking to the girls about when and when they should not have sex is a perfect example. When I watch this scene I feel that Mrs. G. is standing on top of a soapbox telling the audiance what they should and should not do. I think that the writers could have made the point about waiting to have sex in a way that wasn't so....well, preachy. The second reason that I don't like this episode is that I don't like how Blair was written. She seems very unBlair-like. She goes through the entire episode talking about how she wants to gain some "experience". This is really out of character for Blair. Going all the way back to "Rough Housing", we learn that Blair is not the kind of girl who would act the way that she does through this episode. "Brian and Sylvia" It is bad enough that Mrs. G. and the girls are hardly in this episode at all. To make matters worse, the characters of Brian and Sylvia are not in the slightest bit interesting. I just can never care about either them nor their problems. One of the major things I learned in my college creative writing course, is that when a writer cannot get the audiance to care about his or her characters, then they have failed in telling the story. "The Academy" Not a bad episode, but one that I don't think really holds up to repeated viewings. I just don't think that the boys from the military academy are either interesting nor that funny. I do, however, like both Blair and Jo's enterances to the dance. I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can" I did a thread about this episode last year. I think that as a guy, I just could not get into Mrs. Garrett, Jo and Blair going to see male exotic dancers. "'62 Pick-Up" I've never been a big fan of 50's pop culture. I've never liked the series Happy Days nor the movie Grease. I also don't like the music of the 50's. So an episode that is a flashback to the 1950's with the girls as a Doo Wop group and cameos by Fabien and Bobby Rydell just doesn't do anything for me. "Big Apple Blues" I find the people who Natalie moves in with to be really annoying. I also don't like David Spade to start with. and The Facts Of Life Down Under I like the Paris movie much more. The only scene I like in this one is when Jo and Blair are trying to run from the crooks but they keep getting slowed down by the fact that Blair is wearing high heels. It's funny when Blair gets frustrated, so she takes off one of her shoes and throws it at the crooks. Like that was going to make any difference. Of course, this was probably a huge sacrifice for Blair, since they were probably $500 shoes. You've gotta love Blair. :) I Love Lamp 07-06-2007, 02:01 PM I didn't like "Brian and Sylvia", but I thought "Jo's Cousin" was okay. blairmusica 07-06-2007, 09:48 PM Wow, good answers, especially Catlover79, I remember one late episode where Bailey, Blair's little sister, got lost and they took a little spanish girl by mistake, suddenly, for plot convience, nobody spoke spanish! So dumb, both Blair and Natalie spoke spanish, really stupid episode anyway. And yes, I'm Dancing as fast as I can" was also really lame. Well out of 9 seasons, they were bound to have some stinkers. :talk: Nighthawk76 07-06-2007, 10:19 PM Wow, good answers, especially Catlover79, I remember one late episode where Bailey, Blair's little sister, got lost and they took a little spanish girl by mistake, suddenly, for plot convience, nobody spoke spanish! So dumb, both Blair and Natalie spoke spanish, really stupid episode anyway. And yes, I'm Dancing as fast as I can" was also really lame. Well out of 9 seasons, they were bound to have some stinkers. :talk: I actually like "Adventures In Bailey Sitting". Certainly not a classic episode, but pretty good. I am totally with you on "I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can". Nighthawk76 07-06-2007, 10:27 PM "Jo's Cousin" is my least favorite, followed by the one where Tootie had the meltdown over Jermaine Jackson. I like both of these episodes. :) Tootie did act a little annoying in "Startruck", but I think that was sort of the point. Her crush on Jermaine Jackson was borderline obsessive, but isn't that human nature? All of us at some point in our lives become obsessed with someone. And it is not a healthy state of mind at all. That episode shows that. Of all the episodes that were designed to serve as springboards for spin-off shows, I think that "Jo's Cousin" was the best. I thought that Terry was an interesting character and the entire family was funny. I like when the older brother told Terry that she could not ride on the back of a motorcycle while wearing a dress and she says "Well, I'll take it off" and her dad chokes on his food. I think that is a funny scene. Jo Fan 07-07-2007, 04:21 PM I didn't like the ep. Brian and Sylvia, it was boring to me kfoard 09-28-2007, 08:07 PM I have to agree the episode with Jermaine Jackson and the way tootie acted. I also didn't care much for Brian and Syliva. ~ Katherine gotsmart 09-28-2007, 08:23 PM Brian and Sylvia angel676 09-29-2007, 07:46 PM Top 10 eps I don't like: 1. Molly's Holiday 2. Brian and Sylvia 3. Starstruck 4. Different Drummer 5. The Big Fight 6. The Rich Aren't Different 7. Teacher, Teacher 8. Jazzbeau 9. The Agent 10. Something in Common Ireneparalegal 09-29-2007, 07:53 PM I also didn't like THE ACADEMY either. I could do without that episode. BTW, wasn't that some sort of spin-off? I seem to remember those boys were going to have their version of Facts of Life. Classicshowsgurl15 09-29-2007, 09:18 PM The Facts of Love Starstuck Brian and Sylvia Pretty Babies Cousin Geri Returns Jo's Cousin is okay. catlover79 09-29-2007, 11:14 PM Brian & Sylvia was another dud. I think Richard Dean Anderson was still on General Hospital when this episode was made. DOPEY85xxx 09-30-2007, 06:09 PM Brian and Sylvia Starstruck (slap Tootie) The Academy 62 Pick Up The First Time - The way the writers wrote it I didnt like. krazykay 10-01-2007, 04:33 PM I HATED "Brian and Sylvia"...To this day I still haven't seen the whole ep...O_o And I also really dislike "The First Time" becuase of the fact that Blair wasn't in that episode, Natalie and Tootie were portrayed totally different then usual in that episode, and Jo was just...Bleh. She wasn't Jo anymore...And it seemed like the subplot between Andy, Pippa and Beverly Ann was really stupid. Who ever wrote and directed the episode did it really horribly. I also don't really like "The Beginning of the End" and "The Beginning of the Beginning" because it just wasn't a series finale...It was a very CRAPPY season finale...It mostly revolved around Blair and her buying Eastland, when the show should have revolved around ALL of them and the fact that it was the last episode of the f-ing series! Lol. On top of that, Natalie wasn't there, and even though she moved to Africa, they should have still had Mrs. G in the finale because I mean...Duh! IT just feels like another episode to me...And not a very good one at that. RoryGilmore 10-01-2007, 04:41 PM And I also really dislike "The First Time" becuase of the fact that Blair wasn't in that episode, Natalie and Tootie were portrayed totally different then usual in that episode, and Jo was just...Bleh. I agree with you that one was just screwed up for all the girls. I know Lisa refused to be in it maybe the other girls should've done the same and the writers would've got the message. littlebelle 10-20-2007, 10:30 PM The one were Natalie looses her virginity with that Snake guy. Ick! Ireneparalegal 10-21-2007, 03:27 PM I guess the Brian and Sylvia episode was terrible simply because it was meant to test the waters. B&S was meant to be a spin-off show abt an interracial couple and NBC & the producers of FoL decided to use the show as its springboard. It wasn't well received, therefore, no spin-off show. DOPEY85xxx 11-04-2007, 05:18 PM Brian and Sylvia Star Struck 62 Pickup krazykay 11-05-2007, 12:11 PM Top 10 eps I don't like: 1. Molly's Holiday 2. Brian and Sylvia 3. Starstruck 4. Different Drummer 5. The Big Fight 6. The Rich Aren't Different 7. Teacher, Teacher 8. Jazzbeau 9. The Agent 10. Something in Common Awww!! I LOVED Jazzbeau! I thought that was such a cute episode...The way they tried to make the girls look younger like tootie with her hair tied back and Nat with her hair done the way it used to be in the first 4 seasons...And the Jo/Blair scenes in that ep are HILARIOUS!!! And I thought the main plot wasn't very interesting, but it was very nice and very heartwarming. SBTB Geek 11-08-2007, 03:18 AM Definitely "62 Pick-Up." It's sooooooo boring. RoryGilmore 11-08-2007, 06:34 PM Top 10 eps I don't like: 1. Molly's Holiday 2. Brian and Sylvia 3. Starstruck 4. Different Drummer 5. The Big Fight 6. The Rich Aren't Different 7. Something in Common Agree with you on all of them except Different Drummer, The Rich Aren't Different, and Teacher, Teacher Gemini_89 08-10-2018, 06:17 AM That episode when it was about Blair's mother and new baby sister. I didn't care for that because i don't care about Blair's family. |
