View Full Version : WWE Wrestler Chris Benoit, Wife, Son Found Dead. Benoit implicated in murder-suicide.
Chelsea 06-25-2007, 07:54 PM World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.
Tonight’s Raw on USA Network will serve as a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family. WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family’s relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

This is NOT a storyline or a "work", this is legitimate - most of the local Atlanta stations and newspapers are already picking this up.
:(
Chelsea 06-25-2007, 07:56 PM Incidentally, before ANYONE starts throwing out "drugs" or "steroids" or anything like that, Benoit was one of the cleanest and most respected guys in the business. Especially since it's not only him but his wife and son that were found dead.
Brent88 06-25-2007, 07:56 PM Yeah, I was suspicious at first as well but I checked the local Atlanta stations and it didn't take long to find a link.

I don't watch or care about Wrestling but this is horrible. :(
Brian Damage 06-25-2007, 08:26 PM I am in shock. Benoit was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. This sounds like a murder/suicide type of thing. Last night he rushed home to get home and they had to reshuffle the ppv card. Anyway you slice it, this sucks big time.
Zoneboy 06-25-2007, 08:40 PM This is horrible, Chris was one of my favorites and now we've lost both him and Nancy plus their Son. Don't know about murder-suicide but something obviously isn't right somewhere.

This tragedy looks like it could be the result of carbon monoxide poisoning, and that can be fatal. No matter how you look at it, pray for the respective kin of Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy and their son, Daniel.
Skywalker 06-25-2007, 08:57 PM This is awful. :( I haven't felt this bad about a wrestler dying since Owen Hart died. Chris Benoit was one of my favorite wrestlers, not to mention one of the best technical wrestlers of all time. He could make a lousy wrestler look like a million dollars in the ring and not many people can do that.
R.I.P. Chris, Nancy and Daniel. :(
Ireneparalegal 06-25-2007, 09:04 PM What is it with Wrestling and wrestling stars who seem to die young? seem to die suspiciously? seem to die in horrible ways? etc. Seems like someone in the wrestling federation is dying every six months.
This is horrible news.

You May be right
Local Atlanta media is beginning to cover the news that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead today. AJC.com reports that police found the bodies at around 4pm local time and that police would not say how the family died other than they were not shot to death.
Sources tell 1Wrestling.com that police were dispatched to the Benoit home after receiving a call from WWE officials who were concerned that they were not able to get in touch with Benoit.
Vince McMahon opened tonight's RAW broadcast standing in the ring in an empty arena. McMahon explained that tonight was scheduled as a show centered around the presumed death of the "Mr McMahon" character, but with the tragic news of this afternoon the show would now be a tribute to Chris Benoit and his family.

There was a time a few years ago where it felt like another wrestler was dying every month. :( So many wrestlers have died within the past 10 years and the majority of them weren't even 50 years old yet and were still active wrestlers. Heck about 2 weeks ago, a former female wrestler died and they still don't know what happened. :(

Chad22 06-25-2007, 09:38 PM Really sad news, I've been shocked about this for the past few hours. One of my favorite wrestlers gone. I'm grateful that I was able to see him wrestle live on three different occasions.
R.I.P. Benoit family.

Not that this has anything to do with Benoit, but most wrestlers hardly have any time off. They are constantly travelling the world. People say that wrestling is fake, but they suffer real injuries. To mask the pain sometimes, the take a lot of pain pills.
After awhile, some take more than they should and die. It has happened numerous times. Also, some want to get an edge, so they take steroids to build up their bodies and we all know what steroids can do.
In the case of Benoit, this defenitely sounds fishy. I don't want to implicate anyone, but his wife Nancy left her first husband, wrestler Kevin Sullivan to be with Chris. That was a few years ago, but you never know.

It is getting soooo sad to read abt another wrestler losing their life so soon. And this is horrible considering it might be murder.

GARFIELDKOOL 06-25-2007, 09:51 PM I just found out about two hours ago. This is getting fishy, the deaths in wrestling. This case sounds like a suicide or homicide. I didn't know Woman (Nancy) was his wife? I haven't followed wrestling in years, so I don't know what's going on. I do know these wrestlers are dropping like flies. Sherri Martel was just found dead last week, and that death is still unknown.

This is really bad news. My boyfriend is at work. He doesn't know abt this.
Everytime a wrestler dies, I am the one to tell him. I remember when it was Eddie Guerrero. You had posted a thread abt it and I remember exactly how I told my boyfriend. He was SHOCKED AS HELL. And now this? Wow.

That was actually the first thing that came to mind when I found out Chris died. I know those two had some problems years ago at WCW and maybe it's a little far fetched but the whole thing just sounds very strange to me.

Brian Damage 06-25-2007, 11:41 PM According to a report on WAGA-TV, investigators believe Chris Benoit killed his wife and son at some point over the weekend, and then killed himself earlier today.
They reported first hearing from a concerned neighbor and that the three bodies were found in separate rooms.
Detective Bo Turner told the staion the case was being investigated as a murder-suicide, but it could not be confirmed until the evidence was examined by a crime lab.

Wrestler Benoit, wife and son found dead By DEBBIE NEWBY, Associated Press Writer
27 minutes ago
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide.
Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.
The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife, Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.
Lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, told The Associated Press the deaths were being investigated as homicide, and that the causes of death awaited autopsy results on Tuesday. Pope said the bodies were discovered about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.
The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.
Benoit was a former world heavyweight and Intercontinental champion. He also held several tag-team titles during his career.
"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.
Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."
The native of Canada maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.
The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.
"My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class — warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business."

Ireneparalegal 06-25-2007, 11:48 PM There is already a thread of this. Also, you need to cut out all that unnecessary stuff in your posts. It is too much stuff.
Ireneparalegal 06-25-2007, 11:51 PM I just read on another news link that he "abruptly" left rehearsals that day or the day before to tend to a "family emergency".

Zoneboy 06-26-2007, 01:59 AM The vultures are circling eBay with Benoit autographs currently $50 & higher on average. I honestly feel sorry for these clowns that think a signature will increase in value after a celebrity dies. A few days from now the prices will drop like a rock just as they did with Earnhardt and others.
Lex Luthor 06-26-2007, 02:57 AM It is a very sad day for wrestling, truly one of the brightest stars ever. I felt horible seeing Chavo talking about losing his brother last year and now losing his brothers best friend.

I wonder if it was a case of him just snapping or something more in depth, people have been known to have extremely adverse reactions to anti-depressants and perhaps after Eddie died it took its toll.
Regardless what an incredibly horrible tragedy. One of my all time favorite wrestlers.
Holly 06-26-2007, 07:03 AM According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.
Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.
Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.
At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.
WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.
The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.
WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

Chelsea 06-26-2007, 09:28 AM I, for one, refuse to call Benoit a murderer until the police say something more than "this is our theory, we're waiting for the toxicology reports," because right now, they're almost as in-the-dark as we are. Innocent until proven guilty.
And even if it does turn out he did it, I won't mourn the man, but I will mourn the wrestler. He was a fantastic performer, after all, and to act like all those years of great matches didn't happen would not be right. No matter how he went out in the end (and I admit, so far, it ain't looking too great), he as a performer WAS a great.
Brian Damage 06-26-2007, 09:39 AM Sources in the Fayette County Police Department are now working under the theory that Chris Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, son Daniel on Sunday, and then killed himself earlier today.
Benoit was found dead in his weight room. Nancy was found dead in the living room. Daniel was found dead in his bedroom, accordig t an unnamed source in the department.
Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on the scene," but didn't specify what those were or where they were found. Pope said the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the house.

Wrestler Benoit Found Dead With Family
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit canceled a pay-per-view appearance at the "Vengeance" event in Houston because of "personal reasons" a day before he, his wife and their 7-year-old son were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.
Details of the deaths "are going to prove a little bizarre" when released to the public, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in DeKalb County.
Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects.
Investigators believe Benoit, (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three different rooms of the house on Green Meadow Lane, in a subdivision off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.
Ballard told The Associated Press a gun was not used in any of the deaths. But he declined to say how the three died.
"We're pretty sure we know, but we want to confirm it with the crime lab," Ballard said early Tuesday.
Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell did not return phone calls. The answering service for his funeral home said he was out of town.
World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."
Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope told WSB-TV that the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he wouldn't release other details.
Stamford, Conn.-based WWE also said on its Web site it had been asked by authorities not to release further information on the deaths of Benoit, 40; his wife, Nancy, 43; and son, Daniel.
Benoit was born in Montreal. He was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career. He was known by several names including "The Canadian Crippler."
"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the company said in a statement on its Web site.
Benoit had maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.
The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.
Benoit's wife managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, "Woman," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing story line on World Championship Wrestling, the newspaper said.
Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.
Lex Luthor 06-26-2007, 11:54 AM I, for one, refuse to call Benoit a murderer until the police say something more than "this is our theory, we're waiting for the toxicology reports," because right now, they're almost as in-the-dark as we are.
I totally understand your take on this and I do not want to believe it myself. The one thing that really seems to stand out for me though was some of the wrestlers comments last night during the tribute.
They were obviously privy to the "suspicious" text message contents. Several wrestlers hardly acknowledge the man but only the wrestling accomplishments. Particularly William Regal who came out and said he would speak more later when information came out, William only addressed the profressional not the man.
Chavo even implied that Chris might be showing signs of depression just prior to Sundays PPV. To me the tribute almost seemed hollow, perhaps because they knew the truth and couldn't come to grips with it.
I do not want to believe one of my favorite wrestlers of all time did this but it really looks like this is the case.
In a way I am almost hoping steriods were involved at least then it could explain what caused such dramatic and deadly mood shift.
This is a horrible tragedy and I wish all the family the strength they need during this time.
Janice 06-26-2007, 12:00 PM I, for one, refuse to call Benoit a murderer until the police say something more than "this is our theory, we're waiting for the toxicology reports," because right now, they're almost as in-the-dark as we are. Innocent until proven guilty.
It doesn't sound like they're in the dark to me. The lead investigator and the DA are saying that's what happened. If they thought there was a chance of anything else, there would be a huge manhunt on.

Official: Wrestler Strangled Wife, Smothered Son, Hanged Self
Professional wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son before he hanged himself, investigators said Tuesday.
A law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press that Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room.
Earlier, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the details of the deaths are going to prove a little bizarre" when released to the public. Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects. The WWE wrestler canceled a pay-per-view appearance at the "Vengeance" event in Houston because of "personal reasons" a day before the trio were found dead.
Investigators believe Benoit killed his wife, 43-year-old Nancy, and son Daniel during the weekend and then himself Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three separate rooms of the house, off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.
Ballard told The Associated Press a gun was not used in any of the deaths, but he would not say how the three died.
"We're pretty sure we know, but we want to confirm it with the crime lab," Ballard said early Tuesday.
Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell did not return calls seeking comment. The answering service for his funeral home said he was out of town.
Authorities also declined to say whether drugs or steroids were found inside the house. "We're not releasing any information as far as what was located inside the house," sheriff's Sgt. Keith Whiteside said Tuesday.
Asked about the condition of the interior of the house, Whiteside said investigators found "nothing really out of the ordinary." He said Benoit was found in the home's weight room, his wife in an office and the son in an upstairs bedroom.
Whiteside said toxicology tests could take up to a week or longer to complete.
World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."
The WWE, based in Stamford, Conn., said it had been asked by authorities not to release further information on the deaths.
The Fayette County Tax Assessors Office lists the value of the house, situated on more than 8.5 acres, at nearly $900,000.
The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.
Benoit's wife managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name "Woman," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing story line on World Championship Wrestling, the newspaper said.
Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.
Benoit became a standout at an early age among wrestling prospects who trained in the dungeon basement of the house where fellow Canadians and professional wrestlers Owen and Bret Hart trained. Owen Hart was killed during a wrestling event in 1999.
"He was like a family member to me, and everyone in my family is taking it real hard," said Bret Hart, a five-time champion with the now-defunct World Wrestling Federation.

Janice 06-26-2007, 01:33 PM Disgusting piece of sh*t scumbag wife and CHILD killer. I don't care how talented he was, he ended up being the lowest of the low, and a coward at that. OJ Simpson was a great athlete, but he's still a brutal murderer. Time to find a new hero. Any condolences for Benoit should be addressed to HELL. :angryfire
I feel bad for the young kids who looked up to Benoit as their hero. Some young kids might be afraid of their own father after this.
Skywalker 06-26-2007, 03:25 PM I had a hard time believing that Chris murdered his wife and son. I never heard about any domestic violence and everyone said he was a great guy and loved his family so it didn't make sense to me. After reading this article though it's making a lot more sense.

I feel bad for the young kids who looked up to Benoit as their hero. Some young kids might be afraid of their own father after this.

I think your comments will be echoed by many. In retrospect I am not sure the Chris Benoit tribute was such a good idea.
Like Janice said, so many kids looked up to him and they would have seen what amounts to a tribute to a murderer last night. I am sure Vince and the WWE had a very good idea of what happened, you could almost read between the lines with what some people were saying.
My prayers are with the extended family. I only hope that some good can come out of this; be it steriod awareness or domestic abuse awareness.
Tragic ... my heart breaks for those affected by this :( :(
Chelsea 06-26-2007, 03:46 PM If it had been virtually ANYONE else, I wouldn't be in shock like I am. But it was Chris Benoit. That might not mean anything to those of you who never followed wrestling, but Benoit was supposed to be one of the truly GOOD guys, not just in wrestling-character, but in real life.
And I know this much...if someone like Benoit could do something this....godawful....I don't think I'll be able to watch wrestling again. And I've been watching it for quite some time and have been through an awful lot.

ATLANTA - Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his 7-year-old son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself by the pulley of a weightlifting machine, authorities said Tuesday.
Investigators also found prescription anabolic steroids in the house, Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. He would not comment on Benoit's state of mind or possible motive.
Autopsies showed all three died of asphyxiation, Pope said.
Benoit's wife, Nancy, was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said.
The son, Daniel, was likely killed late Saturday or early Sunday, the body found in his bed, Ballard said.
Benoit apparently killed himself several hours and as long as a day later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room, his body found hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.
The prosecutor said he found it "bizarre" that the WWE wrestling star spread out the killings over a long weekend and appeared to remain in the house for up to a day with the bodies.
"I'm baffled about why anybody would kill a 7-year-old," Ballard said. "I don't think we'll ever be able wrap our head around that."
Earlier, a law enforcement official speaking on a condition of anonymity said Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son.

I completely agree with you. I used to follow wrestling YEARS ago and I remember him from when I watched it. I don't understand how somebody could not only kill their wife and kid, but he stayed in the house afterward? Disgusting.
Chad22 06-26-2007, 05:29 PM I'm ashamed to have ever been a fan of this man. Really shocking and disturbing stuff.

Ireneparalegal 06-26-2007, 05:49 PM It doesn't sound like they're in the dark to me. The lead investigator and the DA are saying that's what happened. If they thought there was a chance of anything else, there would be a huge manhunt on.
You are correct Janice. The investigators have information that obviously is not privy to the public at this time and if anything, I am sure there was a suicide note left behind. If not, Chris must have said something in those text messages. It seems this is the case and of course, family and friends, co-workers, etc. would seem to not want to divulge that information (rightly so). Suicide is such a tormenting thing for survivors to have to deal with. On top of that is knowing this man took the lives of his son and his wife.
Steroid use may be the culprit here, but until the tests are conclusive and other issues are looked into, all we have are questions. Steroid use can cause (just like Meth) paranoia, hallucinations, depression and other similar symptoms. This must be addressed ASAP for all who take this drug or consider using it.
I just heard on the news that he strangled his wife, smothered his son and hung himself. I can't fathom what went through his mind to even consider harming his family, much less himself. There should be no shame in liking a man who eventually succumbed to the hells of some mental problem. Mental disease, whether born with it or brought on by some other factor is not something to shame people with.

I really think when they dig down they will find either steroid abuse or perhaps anti-depressant abuse (I would not doubt he may have been on them since Eddie died) was a factor. If it was steroid use then it would explain how someone who appeared so rational and real would just snap. Regardless steriods certainly doesn't excuse anything, people who take them know the side effects.
I do find 1 thing interesting though, the fact that they were "prescription steroids". It would be interesting to see if this was a recent presription and perhaps a horrible reaction.
Like Seth, I am having a tough time coming to grips on how a man so respected could commit such an horrendous act.

Chris Benoit may have been so depressed that he believed his family would be “better off in heaven” when he allegedly murdered his wife and son before killing himself, says an expert on murder-suicide.
WWE wrestler Benoit, his wife Nancy and son Daniel, 7, were found dead Monday in their suburban Atlanta home.
Local police are treating the case as a murder-suicide.
Dr. John Bradford, associate chief of the integrated forensic program for the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group, said murder-suicides that wipe out a family are most often carried out by the father.
“The most usual cause is a major depression, normally a severe one with psychotic features,” said Bradford, also a professor of forensic psychiatry at the University of Ottawa.
“They sort of start to think, in this psychotic thinking, that the whole family would be better off in heaven ... that, ‘This is a horrible place, I think we’d all be better off dead.’”
Psychiatrists commonly refer to murder-suicide as “extended suicide,” when the killer decides life is not worth living, he said.
Police in Georgia say they will be investigating whether steroid use was a factor in the case.
Prescription anabolic steroids were found in the home.
Bradford said steroid use carries “a lot of baggage” when it comes to psychiatric health because the drugs alter brain and body chemistry.
“People that abuse steroids carry with them an increase risk of rage and rage attacks. There’s also an increased risk of depression, so it’s kind of a double whammy.”
Dads who decide to kill their kids often turn to methods such as smothering because they don’t want the children to suffer, said Bradford.
Buffyboy323 06-26-2007, 07:51 PM People must have known somthing was going on. That's what's so f*ck*d up about this. I mean, Chavo Guerrero was crying last night on tv, talking about how he had been a guest last week at their new home. People had to know something was up....I think.
And this is a horrible question here, but why only kill the 1 son? Why not take the other 2 kids?...I don't understand this...Is it that he thought the family would be better off dead with him or something? My god. I don't understand this.
Ireneparalegal 06-26-2007, 07:55 PM His two other kids are with another lady, not his wife. So, by the grace of God, those kids were spared simply because they live with their mother.

Lex Luthor 06-26-2007, 07:59 PM I was just listening to a local sports talk show and the person they were interviewing has alot of interesting things to say. Unfortunately I caught it near the end of the interview adn missed the name of the person, I would have liked to google the name for credibility.
This source stated that a great amount of prescription drugs (not illegal) were found at Benoits home including pain killers, muscle relaxants, anti-depressants and doctor prescibed steriods for his surgically repaired neck. The source suggested that a combination of these drugs probably caused a psychotic break.
These wrestlers put their bodies through hell and are away from home 300 days a year. Perhaps it is time to look at the industry in general and start making the man in charge more accountable (Vince McMahon). I am sure wrestlers are told to suck it up and work through the pain and certainly they are well rewarded financially but the toll it takes on their lives isn't worth it. Someone needs to force regulations onto the WWE.
Eddie Guerro early heart attack
Kurt Angle addicted to pain killers
Jeff Hardy addicted to pain killers and then hard drugs (since rehabed)
Road Dogg addicted to pain killers and the hard drugs
Sensational Sheri young death
Miss Elizabeth suspicious death
I am really struggling with the concept that a man who was the consumate professional and one of the few "good guys" left in the business just all of a sudden became a ruthless cold blooded killer. Something caused this man to go over the deep end and I believe the toxicology reports will back it up.
No one in his right mind would do something so despicable.

If you saw the show last night, you could tell by some people's statements that something went very wrong. It was a very different tribute in contrast to Eddie's. Eddie's death was sudden and sad but nobody suspected foul play.
By the way, tributes for tonight's show, and Smackdown (Friday) have already been cancelled. I think the police requested it.....I am scratching my head at this decision though.

Exactly. We know he killed his family, the question is what went on that caused this? Did he snap? Were there issues that people around them didn't know? When it comes to depression, mental disease, anger, rage, and then leads to suicide and/or murder (and in this case, both) it can't be answered easily. We don't know if he wanted to die and decided to take his family "with him". We don't know if he went into a rage and killed his wife and then his son, had time to contemplate what he did and couldn't live with what he had done and decided to kill himself. It isn't black and white. We will just have to wait and see what is said regarding this horrific tragedy.

The act I agree was despicable but I would not jump to judgement just yet. Who knows if he was just put on a brand new medication, or combined 2 meds that don't mix. This MAY not be a cut and dry as it looks right now.
Personally I have had to take Prednisone (prescription steriod) for my athsma when it got very bad. Normally the side effects were mild but I was still extremely irratable and edgy (like a caffeine overload). On one occasion when my athsma was particullarly bad I was on a higher dose. Keep in mind that I am not a 220 lb athlete, I would imagine his doses were alot higher.
I for one can't lay judgement until the full story comes out.

To call a man a monster before knowing the facts I think is a little premature.
" mental illness, drugs, whatever ... "
IF there was mental illness or drugs that caused a psychotic break then there is a good chance he had no rational idea of what he was doing.
I have personally seen many cases of mental illness and these people have no idea that there is anything wrong with them. If their reality tells them that this is good/evil, threatening, what have you... then regardless of true reality the psychotic reality is all that they know.

I stand corrected. Or well, I'm going back on my comment. Chris deserved a tribute like that. He did. He did a lot for the business. He achieved so much in his 15+ years wrestling all over the world...BUT, since steroids is where everyone is pointing at the moment, he is responsible for that (Not the WWE, not Vinnie Mac himself). HE was the one taking them. HE knew how much to take. HE knew how much not to take. To think that a 7 year old is dead- POSSIBLY because his dad wanted to bulk up, just sickens me to no end.
On another note - I'm not judging Chris as a person. I'm judging his actions...If it does come down to being some sort of mental health problem, I don't think I'd still be able to judge his actions...I understand mental illness. It doesn't condone what happens, but it's something beyond your control.

Fayetteville, Georgia District Attorney Scott Ballard was interviewed by ESPN.com as part of a feature article on the Chris Benoit murder-suicide case. Ballard told the website that the text messages that have been mentioned previously as sent by Benoit (believed to be sent to WWE star Chavo Guerrero, who had just spent time with the family) stated that Nancy and Daniel Benoit were sick (believed to be sent after they were murdered) and a second noting the doors were open and the dogs were outside. Ballard believed the second message may have been an attempt by Benoit to make sure the bodies were discovered after his suicide.
More shocking was Ballard's revelation that The Benoit's son Daniel was found with needle marks in his arms. ESPN wrote, "The district attorney said he believed that the boy had been given growth hormones for some time because the family considered him undersized." HGH can be prescribed for children deemed hormone deficient.

After authorities revealed the grisly details of Chris Benoit's final days, the WWE is changing their tune. In a televised statement, aired just moments ago on Sci Fi Channel's ECW, Vince McMahon made it clear -- they will no longer honor the memory of the murdering wrestler:
"Last night on 'Monday Night Raw,' the WWE presented a special tribute show, recognizing the career of Chris Benoit. However, now some 26 hours later, the facts of this horrific tragedy are now apparent. Therefore, other than my comments, there will be no mention of Mr. Benoit tonight. On the contrary, tonight's show will be dedicated to everyone who has been affected by this terrible incident. This evening marks the first step of the healing process. Tonight, the WWE performers will do what they do better than anyone else in the world -- entertain you."

DELTA (NEWS1130) - We may never know the reasons behind Chris Benoit's decision to take the life of his wife, young son and himself. However, a Delta woman, who was in contact with the Canadian wrestler a few years ago, said she might have some insight into the family. Pam Winthrope said Benoit's son had a genetic condition called Fragile X syndrome. Winthrope said she has experienced the condition first hand and knows how it can tear a family apart.
Fragile X syndrome is an inherited mental impairment. Pam's 12-year-old son has the condition and she said in an effort to shed light on the syndrome, her husband called Chris Benoit about five years ago.
She said, "We talked to him because I was trying to set up a support group in BC and in Canada, we only have a couple of them. My husband was struggling when we got diagnosed with our son, and Chris was struggling with his. They talked for a few minutes and then he said he didn't want to be a public face for Fragile X, he just wanted to keep it really, really quiet."
Winthrope said she couldn't believe the news that Benoit had taken his life along with his wife and 7-year-old son. She added that families can be torn apart by the disease because it's very difficult to find help and support. She said, "You as a parent have to go out there and find what's available and it's not easy --they don't tell you."
Authorities offered no motive for the killings, which were spread out over a weekend, and would not discuss Benoit’s state of mind.

It explains the HGH shots, but only the HGH shots. It's still incomprehensible.
Chain Gang Member 06-27-2007, 11:41 AM No he didn't shoot them. He strangled and smothered them.
Still.I don't believe that he would do such a thing.Plus he had a match for the ECW Championship.WHat do you think he was doing?Practicing for the match by attacking his wife and kid?I don't think so.I bet the next thing you're gonna hear is that he put them both in the Crippler Crossface until their necks snapped and died. Yeah right.
Brent88 06-27-2007, 12:51 PM From TMZ:
Well at least the WWE makes a little sense.
Maybe next time this happens(hopefully it won't), they will think twice before rushing to put a tribute together within FOUR hours of finding out.

The Albany County, N.Y., district attorney's office said Benoit had received deliveries from a Florida-based company charged with selling performance-enhancing drugs.,
The WWE says reports speculating that steroids played a role in the apparent murder-suicide of professional wrestler Chris Benoit, whom police say killed his wife and son before taking his own life, are "sensationalistic" and are not supported by evidence in the case.
But a link emerged connecting Benoit to a Florida company charged with selling performance-enhancing drugs, as the Albany County, N.Y., district attorney's office said Benoit had received deliveries from the pharmacy. And prosecutors, lacking a suicide note and lacking a motive, still want to know if side effects from performance-enhancing drugs could possibly explain what might have caused Benoit to kill two members of his family and take his own life.Toxicology test results may not be available to investigators for weeks. As for whether steroids played a role in the crime, Fayette County, Ga. District Attorney Scott Ballard said: "We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at."
The WWE, in a news release on its Web site, pointed out that according to police, the steroids found in Benoit's suburban Atlana home were from legal prescriptions; that in the absence of toxicology tests, there was no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body; that Benoit tested negative for steroids in April; and that the physical evidence from the home and the time that passed between the two killings and Benoit's suicide suggest deliberate acts, rather than an act of rage.
The WWE "strongly suggests that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseless acts, especially when the authorities plainly stated that there is no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body, pending the toxicological reports, and that they had no evidence at this time as to the motive for these acts," the Stamford, Conn.-based company said.
Benoit strangled his wife Nancy, 43, suffocated his 7-year-old son Daniel and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with a weight-machine pulley, authorities said Tuesday.
Investigators said they found steroids in the house and want to know whether the muscle man nicknamed "The Canadian Crippler" was unhinged by the bodybuilding drugs, which can cause paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts known as "roid rage." Steroids have been linked to the deaths of several professional wrestlers in recent years.
Benoit received drug deliveries from a Florida business that sold steroids, human growth hormone and testosterone on the Internet, according to the Albany County, N.Y., District Attorney's Office, which is investigating the business, MedXLife.com.
Six people, including two of the pharmacy's owners, have pleaded guilty in the investigation, and 20 more have been arrested, including doctors and pharmacists. On Saturday, Benoit called a co-worker to say he had missed a flight and would be late for a wrestling event in Texas, WWE said in a timeline posted Tuesday on its Web site. The co-worker said Benoit sounded tired and groggy and said "I love you," which the co-worker found "out of context," WWE said.
When a co-worker who usually travels with Benoit called him later from the Houston airport, Benoit told the co-worker his wife, Nancy, was throwing up blood and that his son, Daniel, also was throwing up. Benoit said he thought it was food poisoning, according to WWE.
After Benoit talked to a WWE Talent Relations representative, the representative suggested Benoit try to make it to a pay-per-view event in Houston since he would not be able to make it to the live event in Beaumont, Texas.
But early Sunday, two co-workers received a series of text messages from the cell phones of Benoit and his wife. Most stated his home address in Fayetteville, about 20 miles south of Atlanta. One message from Benoit's phone said: "The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open," according to WWE.
The text messages led WWE to ask authorities to check on Benoit and his family.
Ballard said the messages appeared to be an attempt by Benoit to get someone to the home to find the bodies after his suicide.
"In a community like this it's bizarre to have a murder-suicide, especially involving the death of a 7-year-old," Ballard said. "I don't think we'll ever be able to wrap our minds around this."
He said Benoit's 43-year-old wife was killed Friday in an upstairs family room, and her feet and wrists were bound and there was blood under her head, indicating a possible struggle. Daniel was probably killed late Saturday or early Sunday, and his body was found in his bed, the district attorney said.
Benoit, 40, apparently hanged himself hours later, Ballard said. His body was found in a downstairs weight room hanging from the pulley of a piece of exercise equipment.
The prosecutor said it appeared the wrestler remained in the house for up to a day with the bodies.
The boy had old needle marks in his arms, Ballard said. He said he had been told the parents considered him undersized and had given him growth hormones.
"The boy was very small, even dwarfed," Ballard said.

waichingliu81 06-27-2007, 03:47 PM for benoit to murder his wife and child and afterwards killing himself just so he wouldn't end up as a murderer just shows what a utter coward he is. i used to think he was a decent guy until i read about this in the press and i am in shock.
i have no idea what made benoit snap and lose his temper but whatever it was, the guy was seriously mentally and emotionally ****ed up in the head. physically, he may have been fine but due to the steroids he'd been taking, his mind clearly wasn't.
Ireneparalegal 06-27-2007, 04:08 PM I've seen some strong denial in my days, but this takes the cake, lol.
I agree. You said it.
I know that denial is one of the first things one deals with when it comes to death. Eventually he will get it, hopefully.
I remember when O.J. was first suspected of murder, I didn't want to believe it. I was shocked. I had hoped it was all a mistake. I of course know that he was indeed responsible.
I am sure it is especially hard for Chris' fans to deal with the fact that he bound and strangled his wife, smothered his son and killed himself. We are already hearing these facts and there is no denying it.
Chain Gang Member 06-27-2007, 04:13 PM How could they prove that's what happened?
Ireneparalegal 06-27-2007, 04:17 PM How could they prove that's what happened?
I am sure a suicide note was left behind. There are many things that the investigators WON'T talk to the public abt because it has to be thoroughly investigated. Not unusual. The investigators know more than we are being told. I don't think a coroner is going to lie abt Nancy being bound and strangled. I don't think a coroner is going to lie abt the son being smothered. Why would a coroner lie abt this? This is not some world/political issue here or some mob fairy tale...it is a murder/suicide of a family.
Buffyboy323 06-27-2007, 04:44 PM physically, he may have been fine but due to the steroids he'd been taking, his mind clearly wasn't.
Like the articles and interviews have stated,- The steroids had nothing to do with it.

So the wife was killed a day, maybe even 2 days before the son was...What the hell!?!?...So he kills the boy's mother, and what, they watch tv together afterwards?...Did the son know his mother was killed? Maybe he thoght his mom went out somewhere? This is just wierd now.
Ireneparalegal 06-27-2007, 05:13 PM So the wife was killed a day, maybe even 2 days before the son was...What the hell!?!?...So he kills the boy's mother, and what, they watch tv together afterwards?...Did the son know his mother was killed? Maybe he thoght his mom went out somewhere? This is just wierd now.
From what I had heard on the news is that he killed the wife, then, killed his son the next day possibly after contemplating what he had done, left his son without a mother, his son probably witnessed the whole thing, his son surely had to have seen something either during or after his mom was murdered and then Chris felt was going to end up killing himself but how could he leave his son to live knowing what had happened. It is sick but Chris must have felt it was better to have his son die rather than live with what Chris had done.
It is only being speculated, but like I said, if there was a suicide note left behind, and of course those text messages that were sent to various family and friends, this will be eventually pieced together.
Zoneboy 06-27-2007, 07:06 PM Link (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070627/ap_on_re_us/wrestler_dead)
ATLANTA - In the days before pro wrestler Chris Benoit killed his wife and child and hanged himself, the couple argued over whether he should stay home more to take care of their mentally ******** 7-year-old son, an attorney for the wrestling league said Wednesday.
"I think it's fair to say that the subject of caring for that child was part of what made their relationship complicated and difficult, and it's something they were both constantly struggling with," said Jerry McDevitt, an attorney for World Wrestling Entertainment. "We do know it was a source of stress and consternation."
McDevitt said the wrestling organization learned from the couple's friends and relatives that the Benoits were struggling with where to send the boy to school since he had recently finished kindergarten.
He also said Benoit's wife didn't want him to quit wrestling, but she "wanted him to be at home more to care for the kid. She'd say she can't take care of him by herself when he was on the road."
The child suffered from a rare medical condition called Fragile X Syndrome, an inherited form of mental retardation often accompanied by autism, McDevitt said.
Over the past weekend, authorities said, Benoit strangled his wife, suffocated his son and placed a Bible next to their bodies before hanging himself with a weight-machine cable in the couple's suburban home. No motive was offered for the killings, which were discovered Monday.
Anabolic steroids were found in Benoit's home, leading officials to wonder whether the drugs played a role in the slayings. Some experts believe steroids cause paranoia, depression and violent outbursts known as "roid rage."
The WWE, based in Stamford, Conn., issued a news release Tuesday saying steroids "were not and could not be related to the cause of death" and that the findings indicate "deliberation, not rage." It also added that Benoit tested negative April 10, the last time he was tested for drugs.
Also Wednesday, Benoit's personal physician said the wrestler did not give any indication he was troubled when he met with the doctor hours before the start of the weekend.
Benoit had been under the care of Dr. Phil Astin, a longtime friend, for treatment of low testosterone levels. Astin said the condition likely originated from previous steroid use.
Astin prescribed testosterone for Benoit in the past but would not say what, if any, medications he prescribed the day of their meeting.
"He was in my office on Friday to stop by just to see my staff," Astin said. "He certainly didn't show any signs of any distress or rage or anything."
"I'm still very surprised and shocked, especially with his child Daniel involved," Astin said. "He worshipped his child."
District Attorney Scott Ballard said the autopsy indicated that there were no bruise marks on the child's neck, so authorities are now assuming he could have been killed using a choke hold. "It's a process of elimination," he said.
The Benoits' argument over their son was not the only friction in their marriage. Nancy Benoit had filed for a divorce in 2003, saying the couple's three-year marriage was irrevocably broken and alleging "cruel treatment." She later dropped the complaint.
Meanwhile, authorities in Georgia were investigating a link between Benoit and a Florida business that may have supplied him with steroids.
Prosecutors in upstate New York who have been investigating the company's drug sales said Benoit received deliveries from Signature Pharmacy and MedXLife.com, which sold steroids, human growth hormone and testosterone on the Internet.
Six people, including two of the pharmacy's owners, have pleaded guilty in the investigation, and 20 more have been arrested, including doctors and pharmacists.
"That's something that sounds like we ought to be investigating," Ballard told the AP on Wednesday.
A lawyer for MedXLife co-owner Dr. Gary Brandwein scoffed at allegations that his client's company sold steroids to Benoit.
"I've only read that in the paper. I have no direct information about that whatsoever," Terence Kindlon said Wednesday, adding that prosecutors in Albany County, N.Y., were trying to "distract everyone's attention from the fact that their case is disintegrating."
Brandwein, a 44-year-old osteopath from Boca Raton, Fla., has pleaded not guilty to six counts in New York state court related to the criminal sale of a controlled substance. He was accused of signing and sending prescriptions without ever seeing patients.
Telephone messages left for attorneys for Brian Schafler and Greg Trotta — two other co-owners of MedXLife — were not immediately returned Wednesday. The two men have pleaded guilty to felony third-degree diversion of prescription medications and prescriptions, admitting they helped get drugs in 2006 for customers in upstate New York who had no medical need for them.
McDevitt said the drugs found in Benoit's house were legitimately prescribed. "There's no question, none of these drugs are out there, none of these drugs came from Internet pharmacies," he said.
In addition to causing paranoia and explosive outbursts, steroids can also contribute to deep depression, according to experts.
"Just as you have the extreme high of when you're on steroids, you can get the opposite," said Dr. Todd Schlifstein, a clinical assistant professor at the New York University School of Medicine. "You can have a dramatic difference in mood swings. You can feel there's no hope, there's no future."

I know. I was in shock. I used to watch him on MNF and the nfl pre-game shows. He always seemed like a great guy. You just never know.
Brad Russ 06-27-2007, 10:22 PM This is the most shocking news I have ever heard involving a pro wrestler. I was watching the ppv live where Owen Hart died, but to me, this is even more shocking because of the nature, and because it's something I never would have expected in a million years from someone like Chris Benoit. My prayer is that Nancy and Daniel Rest In Peace, and that God have mercy on Chris Benoit's soul!! :(
Brad Russ 06-28-2007, 03:19 AM What I don't get is why these people that want to commit suicide, want to kill others as well?? Why not just kill yourself, and leave innocent people alone?? Especially when it's your family. I know some may say that it's because they love their families so much, that they can't bear the thought of their families being without them, but I don't buy that, because if that were the case, he would have thought about his other two children, and the rest of his family who will now have to live with this tragedy for the rest of their lives. Benoit has been a hero of mine for years, and I never imagined he'd do something like this. I will always be a fan of his wrestling ability, but he is no longer a hero of mine!!
Brad Russ 06-28-2007, 03:41 AM I got this from the WWE's website. It's a timeline of their contact with Benoit from Saturday, through Monday.
Detailed WWE/Benoit timeline
Written: June 26, 2007
Below is a detailed WWE/Chris Benoit timeline from Saturday to Monday:
Saturday, June 23, 2007
Chris Benoit was scheduled to appear at the WWE SmackDown/ECW live event in Beaumont, Texas.
3:30 p.m.
A co-worker received a voice message from Benoit. The message from Benoit stated he missed his flight and overslept, and would be late to the WWE live event. The co-worker called Benoit back, Benoit confirmed everything he said in his voice message and sounded tired and groggy. Benoit then stated, “I love you.” The co-worker stated that it was “out of context.”
3:42 p.m.
The same co-worker was concerned with Benoit’s tone and demeanor and called Benoit for a second time. Benoit did not answer the call and the co-worker left a message stating “just call me back.”
3:44 p.m.
Benoit called the co-worker back stating he didn’t answer the call because he was on the phone with Delta changing his flight. Benoit stated he had a real stressful day due to Nancy and Daniel being sick with food poisoning. They discussed travel plans for the WWE tour of Texas with Benoit still sounding groggy at this point according to the co-worker.
4:30 p.m.
A co-worker who consistently travels with Benoit, called Benoit from outside Houston airport and Benoit answered. Benoit told the co-worker that Nancy was throwing up blood and that Daniel was also throwing up. Benoit thought they had food poisoning. Benoit stated he changed his flight and he would be arriving into Houston at 6:30 p.m. Benoit told the co-worker to drive onto the WWE event.
5:35 p.m.
Benoit called WWE Talent Relations stating that his son was throwing up and that he and Nancy were in the hospital with their son, and that Benoit would be taking a later flight into Houston, landing late, but would make the WWE live event in Beaumont.
6:10 p.m.
A representative of Talent Relations called Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations asked Benoit what time Benoit was getting into Beaumont. Benoit responded he was leaving Atlanta at 9:20 p.m. Eastern time, arriving into Houston at 9:24 p.m. Central time. The representative from Talent Relations advised Benoit that it would be too late to make the WWE live event in Beaumont. Benoit apologized citing he had a family emergency. The representative from Talent Relations suggested to Benoit that instead of going to the WWE live event in Beaumont, Benoit should take the flight to Houston, rest up and be ready for the Vengeance Pay-Per-View event.
6:13 p.m.
The representative from Talent Relations called Benoit to reconfirm the travel plans with no answer from Benoit. The representative from Talent Relations left a voice message to take the flight and rest up.

WWE made several attempts to contact Benoit via phone and text messages, as well as the local hospitals in the Atlanta area. As of 11 p.m. Sunday night there was no contact made with Benoit.
Monday, June 25, 2007
12:30 p.m.
WWE was notified of text messages sent to the two co-workers.
12:45 p.m.
WWE contacted the Fayette County Sheriff’s office and requested them to go to Benoit’s residence.
4 p.m.
WWE received a call from the Fayette County Sheriff’s office, advising that they entered
the house of Benoit and found three deceased bodies (a male, a female and a child). The Fayette County Sheriff’s office has secured the house as a “major crime scene” and that the Fayette County Sheriff’s office had no further information.
Lex Luthor 06-28-2007, 10:38 AM The one thing that strikes me as odd from the WWE timeline is the delay in notifying the Police. Not that it would have made much difference in the grand scheme of things. Why did the WWE not contact Police Sunday after the 5 text messages at 3-4 am? If a friend mine sent me their address 4 times in a row I would think that they were in trouble, especially if I couldn't contact them. The WWE didn't even call Police after Benoit pulled a no show for the PPV they waited until 12pm the next day.
Again probably does not play much of a factor in the whole picture but perhaps the Police may have caught Benoit alive to arrest him if the WWE hadn't waited more than 24 hours.

Ok, maybe Vince McMahon killed Benoit's wife. The police and the coroner already made their conclusions. There is NO STRANGER INVOLVED.
Anyhoo, to answer Brad's question abt suicide and killing others, it appears that Benoit didn't contemplate suicide until after he killed his wife. He saw what he had done, decided to take his child's life after he knew he was going to kill himself. For whatever reasoning he may have thought his son was better off not living and not having to live with what his son saw.

Investigators are looking into who altered pro wrestler Chris Benoit's Wikipedia entry to mention his wife's death hours before authorities discovered the bodies of the couple and their 7-year-old son.
Benoit's Wikipedia entry was altered early Monday to say that the wrestler had missed a match two days earlier because of his wife's death.
A Wikipedia official, Cary Bass, said Thursday that the entry was made by someone using an Internet protocol address registered in Stamford, Conn., where World Wrestling Entertainment is based.
An IP address, a unique series of numbers carried by every machine connected to the Internet, does not necessarily have to be broadcast from where it is registered. The bodies were found in Benoit's home in suburban Atlanta, and it's not known where the posting was sent from, Bass said
Chelsea 06-28-2007, 07:48 PM Dave Meltzer from WrestlingObserver.com adds more: "The WWE later found that on its chat line at 8:41 p.m., during the PPV, after Benoit missed the show, someone on a WWE chat said that he missed the show due to his wife dying. Later, when the person was asked where he heard the story, he said, "Meltzer reported it." An hour later after the Wikipedia entry was taken down, someone from Australia edited it and again put that Nancy Benoit had passed away, attributing it to "several pro wrestling web sites." I didn't know of this until today when questioned by WWE who asked if Benoit had called me, which he hadn't, nor did I report it or know anything until Monday afternoon, after the WWE wrestlers were told. It appears it was a hoax started by someone and given credibility by usage of my name, no more than the daily fake stories people make up on MMA and pro wrestling chat boards, the appear to have led to the Wikipedia edit, this become a big story, and it may be nothing more to the story other than an eerie irony."

Brian Damage 06-28-2007, 09:49 PM I found out Benoit's wife was dead 14 hours before the bodies were found and he missed Vengeance because of it.So he didn't kill his wife. Now we gotta figure out about him and his son's death.

The whole thing's crazy.
Ireneparalegal 06-28-2007, 10:48 PM The whole thing's crazy.
It is. But it is obvious that Benoit is responsible for those killings and no one else. The only crazy thing to me is that this whole Wikepedia thingy that was mentioned...oh and the fact that someone is in big time denial.
Ireneparalegal 06-29-2007, 02:21 PM Apparently Benoit's doctor's office was raided yesterday.

This might be hard for non-wrestling fans to understand, but to those who loved Chris Benoit's work, the killings at his home and his suicide were as shocking as if Peyton Manning or Tim Duncan or Derek Jeter committed the same acts.
He was that good at what he did and that respected by fans and peers for doing everything the right way.
As such, the story of how he strangled his wife, smothered his child and hanged himself is as disturbing as any I've encountered. It raises countless questions about drugs, the vagaries of the mind and our propensity for glorifying risk. It offers answers to none of them.
First off, shame on all the news hosts who've spent the last few days screaming 'roid rage, as if there's ever a dead-simple explanation when a man kills his family and himself.
The sad episode does raise questions about links between steroid use, the frenetic lifestyle of wrestlers and mental instability. Benoit's employer, World Wrestling Entertainment, has already tried to steer coverage away from his possible steroid use (authorities found prescribed anabolic steroids while searching his home).
The deliberate nature of his actions suggested anything but a rage, the company said in a news release. Chairman Vince McMahon reiterated that position on the "Today" show, noting that Benoit tested negative for drug use in April.
The company's points may be true as far as they go (though McMahon failed to acknowledge loopholes in the testing policy that allow steroid use with a prescription). But depression is actually much more common among steroid users than " 'roid rage," said Dr. Bill Howard, founder of the sports medicine institute at Union Memorial Hospital.
Howard called me a few days ago, fuming about the inaccuracies he perceived in coverage of the Benoit story.
"It was depression," he said. "That's by far the most common psychological side effect of steroid use. You'll find an amazing number of these users having domestic problems related to depression."
Former wrestler Chris Nowinski, a spokesman on the dangers of concussions, has suggested that Benoit might have suffered brain trauma that altered his mental state over the years. One of Benoit's signature moves was a diving head butt off the top rope.
Whatever the cause, his end left different feelings than past tragedies in the profession.
There is a stereotypical wrestler death. Benoit's great friend and rival, Eddie Guerrero, demonstrated it two years ago when he was found dead of a heart attack in his hotel room the same day he was to win the world championship.
Fans mourned Guerrero, remembering his astonishing bag of physical tricks and the outlaw mirth in his eyes and smile. But given his long history of steroid and pain-pill use, his lonely death at 38 fit expectations. It echoed those of so many contemporaries, from Brian Pillman to Curt Hennig to Davey Boy Smith.
Benoit's end proved far more disquieting, especially given that he was the model wrestler.
In the ring, he could do anything, appearing just as comfortable in a fast-paced match full of intricate moves as in a pitched brawl dominated by bruising kicks and skin-busting head butts.
He never missed a date or loafed through a performance. He came off as reserved but unfailingly appreciative of those who enjoyed his work. He enforced tradition and respect in the locker room, demanding punishing calisthenics from any youngster who mouthed off to an elder. He wept when speaking at Guerrero's memorial show.
Even his suspected steroid use seemed understandable. He was a 5-foot-10 man whose body was probably meant to carry 170 or 180 pounds. But he fell in love with a business in which the most glorified performers stood well over 6 feet and packed 250 to 300 muscular pounds.
Benoit acknowledged the pressure over the years, once telling the Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter that steroids for wrestlers were like cigarettes in the 1950s. Many used them and few contemplated the risks.
Benoit's hero, the Dynamite Kid, packed layers and layers of muscle onto a lithe frame and ignored the signs as he lost the ability to walk.
That was Benoit's context, one in which stoic men loved their craft so much that they warped and eventually broke their bodies on the altar of performance. When he won the world title at Wrestlemania, fans cried and cheered because the moment seemed to suggest that passion and work and resilience really might be enough in this life.
That his wife, Nancy, had filed for divorce and a restraining order less than a year earlier (she later dropped both requests) wasn't known to fans. In fact, he invited his family into the ring to celebrate and often spoke of how he wanted to get home more often.
All that explains why fans feel so shaken.
We don't know that wrestling led Benoit to the terrible events of last weekend. We will never know what ran through his mind.
We do know that wrestlers subject their bodies to immense risks as they live out of hotel rooms hundreds of days a year. We know that countless stars have been unable to maintain stable families or resist the lures of pain-pill addiction. We know that the WWE often gives the greatest rewards to those who build their bodies to the most cartoonish proportions. We sense that these are sorts of things that could make someone unhinged.
Some people dismiss wrestling all too easily because of its carnival roots and ridiculous plots. But really, what's so rational about dressing up in colored armor and beating your fellow man as half-naked women cheer you on at the coliseum? I've just described the nation's most popular sport, professional football.
And we know that football shatters the bodies of its greatest heroes. Johnny Unitas' scarred knees and gnarled hands told us so.
We know that tens of thousands of punches to the head slow the steps and slur the words of courageous boxers. We're reminded every time Muhammad Ali appears in public.
We know that a car traveling 200 miles an hour can spin out of control even when guided by the most skilled hand. Dale Earnhardt's demise at Daytona attested to that.
No, it won't do to dismiss the implications of Benoit's death simply because he was a wrestler.
As a culture, we've decided that consenting adults are allowed to push themselves past safe limits for our entertainment and their reward. Drug testing and better medical care and safety precautions can lessen many of these risks but cannot stamp them out.
I don't know about you, but when a boxer loses his life in the ring or a football player is crippled or a wrestler turns up dead in his hotel room, I feel complicit.
If I know these acts are so destructive, why do I watch? Do I simply lack the moral fortitude to look past my desire to be entertained? I fear the answer is yes.
In the last few days, scores of wrestling fans have said on message boards that Benoit's death will kill their love of the spectacle. Many more have said that one man's deranged acts shouldn't end an art loved by so many. I agree with the latter and yet, I wonder.

Benoit wrestle hold killed son
By SIMON ROTHSTEIN of THE LILSBOYS
WRESTLER Chris Benoit murdered his seven-year-old son with his WWE finishing move, police have said.
Cops in Georgia are speculating that Benoit, 40, ended Daniel's life with a version of the Crippler Crossface hold the morning after strangling his wife Nancy, 43, to death. Later that day Benoit committed suicide.
The Crippler Crossface was a move Benoit used in almost all his wrestling matches, including when he beat Triple H for the heavyweight title at WrestleMania XX.
Police were originally confused by bruising on the young lad that wouldn't have been there had he been strangled.
Then an officer watched a wrestling tape, quickly realising that the marks on Daniel's body matched the application of a version the Crossface.
The version Chris used in WWE rings involved him placing an arm of a floored opponent between his legs before locking his hands around their face and pulling back to stretch their neck.
In the context of a wrestling match the move was lightly applied, with Benoit's foe 'selling' it with his facials to make it look like he was really hurt.
District Attorney Scott Ballard said: "A choke hold was used to strangle the boy, rather than hands, because there's no bruising consistent with strangulation by hands."
Respected American wrestling writer Dave Meltzer added: "There was bruising consistent with the Crippler Crossface on one arm and Daniel's face. There were no bruises on his neck
"The police don't believe, because of the size difference, that the hold was applied exactly as it would be in a pro wrestling match.
"Benoit would have been in more of a kneeling position, sort of straddling Daniel while using one leg to pull back on his arm."
More details of what turned a quiet man into a killer are also emerging.
Chris's mental state deteriorated after the recent deaths of grappling pals Eddie Guerrero, Mike 'Johnny Grunge' Durham and Victor 'Black Cat' Mar.
They came on the back of the loss of other friends in the business including Brian Pillman, British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart and Brian Hildebrand - as well as his trainer and mentor Stu Hart.
He was also becoming increasingly paranoid and deluded due to a lethal mix of steroids, pain killers, anti-depressants and the medication he was taking for his blood pressure brought on by decades of steroid abuse.
The full results of a toxicology (blood) test is still several weeks away.
Meltzer - who has spent a week speaking to police and Chris's friends for his Wrestling Observer publication - concludes that is unfair to point the figure at the wrestling industry or steroids.
But he adds: "An absolutely horrible question to deal with in this situation, as well as many of the other deaths of wrestlers, is would these young men and women still be alive if they were never pro wrestlers or tied to another profession?
"Perhaps in some circumstances, the answer is no.
"But looking on this case, and going back to people who I knew very well and talked with regularly, who are no longer alive, if they had never gotten into wrestling, I can't help but believe with all my heart, that every one of them would still be alive."
Mr. Cranky 07-03-2007, 12:41 PM Doubt this was roid rage. Took place over three days. I hope the creep is roasting in hell right about now.

Now steroids can be used as a copout?
Sure he's dead, but the next jackasss that kills someone can use this as a defense? You shoot up a room because you're drunk doesn't get you off for anything. God knows a lawyer is using a steroid defense in the future.

Lex Luthor 07-04-2007, 11:11 AM Experts downplay ‘roid rage’ factor in Benoit murder-suicide
Even though his personal doctor prescribed massive amounts of anabolic steroids to wrestler Chris Benoit, domestic violence experts are downplaying the possible role of steroids in his murder-suicide death.
Steroid usage has been linked to angry outbursts called “roid rage” and depression when usage stops. But in the case of Benoit, who killed his wife and 7-year-old son over a two-day period during the weekend of June 24 before committing suicide on a third day, they see a pattern of premeditation.
Nancy Grigsby, executive director of the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, said: “It’s sort of counterintuitive that he’s raging for three days straight. Unfortunately it looks like a garden variety domestic violence incident to me. It’s a decision, and they actually are typically quite calm when they give themselves permission to do what they want to do.”
Kirsten Rambo, executive director of the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, said: “It’s exactly all about power and control. He was paid to be violent, and he took that violence home with him.”
Penn State University epidemiologist Gary Yesalis, who has studied steroids for 30 years, said: “Anabolic steroid rage is a spontaneous behavior. From what I’ve read, the death of Benoit and his family wasn’t spontaneous. I don’t see steroids had much, if anything, to do with this.”
“That was a premeditated act, and that’s not rage,” said Gary Wadler, a New York doctor who studies the use of drugs and sports.

Still waiting on toxicology reports but I really don't know if we will ever find the truth.
There are tons of stories circulating right now
- Benoits son did not have Fragile X syndrome acording to family (my question is why the hell were they injecting him with Human growth Hormone (HGH)then?)
- Rey Mysterio adn Mark Jindrak may be charged as part of the DEA steriod/Dr. Astin investigation
- Some wrestling sites are reporting that Benoit recently took out an insurance policy on himself and left his ex wife and oldest child as beneficialries
Lex Luthor 07-06-2007, 01:04 AM COVER STORY SNEAK PEEK: Chris Benoit's Family Secrets
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20044655,00.html
As the search for a motive intensifies in the case of Chris Benoit, this week's PEOPLE goes into the home life of the WWE superstar who killed his wife, Nancy, his 7-year-old son and himself.
Friends searching for clues to what went wrong have focused on Benoit's relationship with Nancy Benoit, 43, who often complained she felt like a single mother because of her husband's constant touring.
Former neighbor Melissa Coppage recalls asking Nancy recently if she had any vacation plans. "She said, 'No, it's all wrestling, all the time.' "
But several of Benoit's friends describe the 40-year-old as a devoted father and husband – who, apparently at Nancy's request last year, took a four-month leave from work to be with her while she recovered from surgery.
"He wasn't a monster," Benoit's friend and former wrestler Dean Malenko tells PEOPLE. "We're talking about a guy who, a month ago, was in Jacksonville and rather than drive down to Orlando, where he needed to be the next day, he took a flight to be home with [his son] Daniel."
In 2003, Nancy filed for divorce from Benoit, saying he had threatened her. But the couple then reconciled.
Questions about the health of the couple's son, Daniel, also remain central to the mystery. Two days after the bodies were discovered, the WWE suggested through its attorney that the boy may have suffered from a medical condition known as Fragile X syndrome, a form of retardation often accompanied by autism.
But the child's maternal grandparents, speaking through their lawyer, said Daniel had "no health problems that they could discern," and investigators subsequently said the boy's medical records showed no evidence of any serious illness.
Still, the pro-wrestling organization, through its attorney Jerry McDevitt, insists the boy's health was an issue and "a source of tension in the relationship between Chris and Nancy."

WWE Mystery: Chris Benoit Tragedy
Monday , July 09, 2007
This is a partial transcript from "Hannity & Colmes," July 6, 2007, that has been edited for clarity.
ALAN COLMES, CO-HOST: This week, People magazine takes a closer look at the life of wrestler Chris Benoit , which offers shocking details into the double murder. And at the same time the U.K. Sun has released a study that shows 107 wrestlers have died in the last 10 years.
The WWE responded to that story today, saying, quote, "We are in the process of reviewing this list and the many others that are circulating around the Internet. We intend to comment on those lists in the near future," end quote.
Joining us now with more details, former WWF wrestler Lenny Rafo (sic) and Jacques Rougeau. We welcome you both.
Lanny, did you know Chris or Nancy?
LANNY POFFO, FORMER PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER: My name is Lanny Poffo.
COLMES: Poffo.
POFFO: Chris or Nancy? I met Chris Benoit three different occasions. I've recently been on the phone with my friend Rick Martel and Nora Greenwald. We discussed Chris Benoit, and they said he was the last guy they'd ever expect something like this to happen.
He was a wonderful man. And they're just totally shocked. And personally, my heart is just broken that a 7-year-old boy named Daniel is gone.
COLMES: Yes.
POFFO: And I just — I'm absolutely torn up about it.
COLMES: Jacques, did you know them?
JACQUES ROUGEAU, FORMER PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER: Yes, I knew Chris Benoit in the WCW, and it's incredible what happened. But I'm going to go ahead and put the blame on steroids 100 percent.
You know, it's a rough life out there. You know, you spend — when I was there 10 years ago, I spent 10 years in the WWF. And — and you've gone 25 days a month from your family. You don't see your family, and you're on the road.
And luckily, I had my brother Raymond with me.
COLMES: Right.
ROUGEAU: So we were two brothers together. But the guys were lonely on the road. And I think the problem — we all knew the guys were taking tremendous — tremendous steroids.
And — but after the show, the problem is they'd go in bars and stuff like that and take alcohol and mix alcohol and drugs. And...
COLMES: So it's interesting, Jacques, you say that, because a number of wrestlers have come on the show and said exactly the opposite and defended the idea that steroids, if used properly, are just part of the sport.
Lanny, where are you on this? Do you...
ROUGEAU: That's probably...
POFFO: There is an epidemic out there, and it's called the "it's not my fault syndrome." And to blame the San Francisco Giants for all the world's problems and to blame the WWE.
The blame happens when the man looks in the mirror and blames himself, because it's a cop-out to think that "I can't make it unless I take steroids."
The key to making it in the world is to be unique, to be yourself, to find something that puts the smiles on the faces.
And wrestling has been very, very good for me. I wrestled for 21 years. I'm very proud of my career.
COLMES: Then why would the WWE — why would they come forward right away with a statement saying it had nothing to do with steroids, that's not the cause of death? Do they protest too much? Are they trying to clear themselves by, all of a sudden and immediately saying it had nothing to do with this?
Go ahead.
ROUGEAU: Let me put it to you this way.
COLMES: Go ahead, Jacques.
ROUGEAU: This is Jacques in Montreal. I'm just putting to you this way. I spent 30 years in this business now, 10 years with the guys which I called gorillas and guys that were on steroids everywhere.
We never took steroids, so if you want to talk to somebody who didn't take steroids and was with people who took steroids, I'll give you the truth.
I worked with some guys like the Road Warriors, for example. Hawk of the Road Warriors. Lanny, you remember Hawk. And there was a guy that you'd go in the ring with. And, for a simple reason, out of a match that didn't come out like he wanted to — one time I'm in Philadelphia. I'm in the dressing room.
He comes out of the ring and it's a three against three. There are two other opponents that are with me and come and shake my hand when I come out: "Good match, Jacques. Good match."
And he comes out of nowhere, and he pushes me into the wall saying, "What are you doing? What are you doing? You made me look bad." And I didn't even know what he was talking about.
And then five minutes later he'd come back and see me and say, "Jacques, I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to talk to you like that."
We've seen so many moods change with the guys.
And you know, you could tell a guy that's on steroids right away. If you see the guy that weighs 250 in June, and then you see him and he weighs 265 in July, then there's a good chance that he's on steroids, especially if he doesn't have any fat on him.
LOWRY: Hey, guys.
ROUGEAU: Another way you could...
LOWRY: Hey, Jacques, it's Rich Lowry.
ROUGEAU: But there's another...
LOWRY: Jacques, just one second here. I want to get "Superstar" Billy Graham in, who's just joined us.
ROUGEAU: Sure.
LOWRY: Billy, I want to give you a chance to weigh in on this. First of all, can you tell us, did you know Chris? And what are your recollections of him?
"SUPERSTAR" BILLY GRAHAM, FORMER PROFESSIONAL WRESTLER: Yes, I knew Chris very well, as a matter of fact. And before I answer that question, I'd like to speak in defense of Road Warrior Hawk.
When he was having these rages in the locker room, he was also using a huge amount of cocaine along with these rages. So I wanted to clarify that. And along with other various drugs.
LOWRY: That doesn't sound like much of a defense.
GRAHAM: Well, I'm saying along with the steroids.
LOWRY: Go ahead, Billy. But Billy, let's — we've got plenty of time to talk about steroids. Talk a little bit about Chris, if you would.
GRAHAM: Yes, I know that a statement made two Mondays ago on "Raw" by D. Malenko, I think, gave us real insight to Chris's mental stability. He said that years ago, wrestling in Japan with Chris, they nicknamed him Houdini, because he would often disappear during a conversation. And so that's a big clue to some mental illness right there.
And also I know that after the death of Eddie Guerrero, I conducted Eddie Guerrero's funeral service here in Phoenix. And Chris Benoit was absolutely devastated, not only by the death of Eddie Guerrero, his dear friend, but all the deaths in professional wrestling, including the most recent one, Sherri Martel.
So I believe this — this deep depression — he — he didn't like the world he was living in. He — he literally wept on my shoulder and my wife, Valerie's shoulder at the gravesite of Eddie Guerrero and said he just doesn't understand what's wrong with this world.
COLMES: Billy, hold it right there.
GRAHAM: That's an insight to some mental issues.
COLMES: Lanny and Jacques, we're going to come right back. Hold on, guys. We're going to come back. More with you guys in just a moment.
And also still to come, a preview of this weekend's special edition of "Hannity's America". Coming up.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
LOWRY: Welcome back to "Hannity & Colmes". I'm Rich Lowry, in for Sean tonight.
We continue now with former WWF wrestlers, Lanny Poffo, author of the book "Tangled Ropes"; former wrestlers "Superstar" Billy Graham and Jacques Rougeau.
Lanny, let me push you on something you were saying in the earlier segment, because I'm a big personal responsibility guy, as well, and I see what you're saying. But professional wrestling seems these days to be an industry that's almost premised on the abuse of steroids.
Can you be a successful star in professional wrestling now without taking the substance?
POFFO: It depends if you want me to speak objectively or subjectively. I'm sure if I were born with an eyeball in the center of my head, I'm sure I'd sell some tickets somewhere to some promoter some place. I believe that to be peculiar or to be unique is critical if you're going to — why would a person pay their money to see somebody that's normal?
LOWRY: Yes, but Lanny — Lanny, let me just — let me ask you this, though. You — you can work out all the time and not be normal, like you can be really big. But why does it mean you have to take steroids and get that much bigger?
POFFO: I don't understand the question.
ROUGEAU: Exactly. If you don't mind...
LOWRY: Sure.
ROUGEAU: Lanny, let me answer the question for you, if you don't mind.
Thirty years ago I started my career. I had — I don't know if you take a look at this. I had a 19-1/2 inch arms. That was 19 — 30 years ago.
Now 30 years later I'm still wrestling with my son, 30 years later, and I've got 19-inch arms. So I have a difference of a half an inch in 30 years. My brothers and I...
LOWRY: I have arms almost that big.
COLMES: Very similar. Very similar.
ROUGEAU: No, but we've done well. The Rougeau family up in Canada, we've done very well without steroids. My brother Raymond was the Fabulous Rougeau Brothers with me.
I became the personality of the Mountie. I became the Quebecers, tag team champions of the world. I beat Hulk Hogan in Montreal at the Molson Centre (ph) and never took steroids.
LOWRY: The point — the point you're making, which I think is a very good one, and I don't mean this to be insulting. You're not normal; you're extraordinary. But it didn't require abusing the substance.
ROUGEAU: Not at all. And I think it was in the night life that really killed a lot of guys.
If you look down — it would be like — the steroids for me, if I could explain it to you really fast, it would be like taking a Volkswagen and putting a motor, a 440 inside a Volkswagen. The motor is going to go ahead, but the body's not going to follow. And that's why the heart attacks will come.
LOWRY: Billy, do you agree with what Jacques is saying? What's your take on that?
GRAHAM: Well, my take on it is it's a simple matter of choice. You know, I chose to use these steroids starting in 1966. And became very dependent upon steroids and loved steroids and continued to use them years before I went into professional wrestling, training with Arnold Schwarzenegger in '69, '70, '71, through the early '70s. We enjoyed taking steroids and the benefits from it.
And there was no — go ahead. I'm sorry.
COLMES: Billy, I want to go on a different tack with you, because you knew Chris and Nancy pretty well. And now it's coming out that family and friends are saying that the child was not undersized and didn't have Fragile X Syndrome, as the WWE said.
You knew them. Did their child have this disease?
GRAHAM: I can't — I'm not a doctor. I wish we had Doctor Baden here.
COLMES: Yes.
GRAHAM: But nevertheless, I can't — we'll see when the blood results come back from the child, also, I believe.
And I know the child was a little shy — a shy child. I picked him in my arms and played with him, made him wrestle.
COLMES: Was he undersized? Was he undersized?
GRAHAM: I didn't — I didn't pay that much attention to his size. He could have been undersized. He could have been for his age.
But, you know, the reports of the needle marks on his arms, I talked to my endocrinologist here at Phoenix, Arizona, the Mayo Clinic. And they told me on many occasions they'll prescribe adults to give their children human growth hormone, as prescribed.
COLMES: Yes.
GRAHAM: So that's very possible.
COLMES: By the way, I want to talk about Bible placement and where the Bible was, where they found the Bible when they found the bodies. You think that's significant?
GRAHAM: Yes, it really is, Alan. To me — to me that shows a lot of anguish in Chris Benoit.
As everyone will tell you and has told you, he's just a lovable person, a gentle, a kind person, but very, very into himself and never shared his feelings with a lot of people.
And I feel that when he — when he did this massacre of the innocent, of these poor folks that got taken out, I believe he was with a struggle. He placed the Bibles next to the bodies, maybe in his own mind hoping that he would take his child and his wife with him to another place.
I think we should really look hard at the Bible placement next to the bodies, Alan.
COLMES: You've got to wonder if that's a better — you know, the idea that I'm taking them to a better place, but I have to kill them to do it? Lanny, it sounds like a very...
GRAHAM: It's a twisted state of mind, a twisted state of mind, Alan. No doubt about it.
COLMES: Lanny, it's an unusual point of view, huh?
POFFO: He didn't leave a suicide note, so we can only speculate on what was — what was going through his mind at that time.
I'm still very upset about it. It's very hard to speak rationally. I almost did not accept the invitation to come here. I thought I would get emotional. And I still very am. I am — I'm angry.
And I want to say something to the children. If you play, you must pay. But don't blame your Mommy for not buying you the 365 Crayolas. You know the consequences for everything you do.
COLMES: All right.
GRAHAM: You know, Alan — Alan, I can tie in the steroid — I can tie in the steroid situation right here real — real clearly.
LOWRY: We've got about 15 seconds, Billy.
GRAHAM: Chris Benoit did test positive — OK, 15 seconds. He tested negative in April. I'll take this back up after the break.
LOWRY: Sorry. Sorry, guys. Sorry. We do have to leave it there. Thanks so much for being with us.
ROUGEAU: Guys, I've got to...
LOWRY: No, we've got...
ROUGEAU: I'd like — I want to say something.
LOWRY: We've got to go. Sorry.
ROUGEAU: Stay away from steroids.
LOWRY: Thanks for being with us.
Lex Luthor 07-18-2007, 10:54 AM Test Results Reveal Chris Benoit Had Ten Times Normal Amount Of Testosterone In His Body At Time Of Murders

Eric Williams - AHN Sports Reporter
Decatur, GA (AHN) - Georgia's leading medical examiner, Dr. Kris Sperry, summed up the entire Chris Benoit tragedy succinctly following the announcement Tuesday that Benoit had more than 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system when he hanged himself in his home last month after killing his wife and 7-year-old son.
"I think it's an unanswerable question," Sperry said when asked whether or not the steroids in Benoit's system may have contributed to the three tragic deaths.
Although test results released Tuesday have showed that Benoit had abnormally elevated levels of testosterone along with other substances in his system, there is no definitive way to say whether any of the drugs in his system were the cause of his inexplicable violent rage.
Steroids are believed to cause violent outbursts known as "roid rage," paranoia, and depression, but as Sperry noted, there is no overall consensus on the theories at this point.
Though investigators found steroids in the Benoit's rural home, Sperry reported that there was absolutely nothing to indicate the performance-enhancing drugs played a role in the deaths of any of Benoit's.
Sperry even cautioned against rampant speculation on the testosterone, saying Benoit could have been undergoing treatment for "testicular insufficiency," he said.
In short, Sperry said that no one will ever really know what possessed Benoit to kill his wife, son and himself.
The testosterone in Benoit's body may have been injected shortly before Benoit died, Sperry said.
Benoit's body also contained the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller hydrocodone, authorities said.
It appears Benoit also gave his wife and son drugs before killing them. Daniel appeared to be sedated before he was suffocated and Nancy Benoit had a non-toxic level of sedatives in her blood, which Sperry termed a 'therapeutic level.'
Though investigators were eager to find out if alcohol was a factor after they found 10 empty beer cans in the home, Sperry said there was no definitive way to tell if that hypothetical scenario played a part in the deaths as decomposition may have affected the tests results.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Chris Benoit tested negative for alcohol. Sperry stated, and Nancy Benoit's body had a blood-alcohol level of 0.184 percent.
Nancy Benoit tested positive for Xanax, hydrocodone and the painkiller hydromorphone. Daniel Benoit had Xanax in his system, authorities said.
World Wrestling Entertainment last tested Benoit for steroids in April. Officials say the recent test results were proof he did not test positive for illegal substances.
"All it means is that scientifically, it's now known that sometime between April 10 and when he died, he had treatment with testosterone," said Jerry McDevitt, a WWE attorney. "That's all it establishes."
Benoit's personal physician, Dr. Phil Astin, was charged by federal authorities with improperly prescribing painkillers and other drugs to two patients other than Benoit. He has pleaded not guilty.

Lex Luthor 07-18-2007, 11:00 AM Sounds to me like too much of a level of planning was involved to be "roid rage" . Sedating your wife and child before killing them...??
He definately had some screws knocked loose in his head, maybe steriods played a part in his overall mental state but I don't think you can blame steriods for this tragedy.
Ultimately Benoit knew the dangers of steriods and still took 10 times the normal dose ... he is responsible regardless, no scapegoat here.
