Both of these seasons for these shows took major hits when losing Travolta and Esther Rolle but WBK didn't add a Kid to the cast and I have to give WBK season 4 the edge for that reason.

Good Times - hands down. Why bother having the title "Kotter" in the last season of WBK?? I'd rather watch the Evans kids, Willona and Penny than watching Horshack battle with the bottle.

"Special Guest Star" John Travolta was the reason to watch WBK S 4 but if I had to watch the whole season I think I would pick Good Times

Good Times for me, I feel season 5 wasn't that bad.

Hands down - S5 of Good Times, b/c there were still good eps. unlike those of S4 of WBK.

WBK got worse when they added Beau DeLaBarre. It was as if the other Sweathogs treated him like he was a regular customer. Plus, Gabe's absence of refusing to show up made things even more worse.

I will have to go with "Good Times" . It is unfortunate that we have to decide between these two shows.

Although I prefer Welcome Back, Kotter as a show, I would have to go with Good Times. Yes, the absence of Esther Rolle was a setback, but I think the tone of the show generally remained the same. Jimmie Walker and Janet DuBois stepped up to the plate and assumed more of a lead role and while Penny could be annoying, she wasn't as annoying as...

Beau DeLaBarre!!!

Kotter not only had the main character absent for most of the season, but Travolta only made a few appearances and the show all of a sudden went from being a happy-go-lucky sitcom to being socially relevant, with teen suicide, alcoholism, etc.

Good Times had always addressed issues relevant for the times and particularly in relation to black people, so not much changed there.

Both sets of changes, however, ultimately hurt the shows. Kotter was cancelled during season four and although Good Times (with a returned Esther Rolle) came back for a sixth season, the damage was done. At least Good Times saw the writing on the wall and filmed a proper (if abrupt) farewell episode.
