View Full Version : The worst episodes of the show?

This show had a lot of great episodes, but others were just downright stupid and pointless. So, I'm asking what do you think were the show's worst episodes?

For me it was "That's Not What I Said" in season 3. In the beginning of the episode, Theo was in jail, and I thought that was the whole point of the episode. But then it turns out that the whole episode is about Cliff and Claire having a fight. And, it was over something really stupid, and it some of the worst acting done by Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad in the show.

The UBER-boring "Hillman Homecoming" show........I dont watch a sitcom for a half-hour infomercial on the Negro College fund ( Which is a fine charity but, I wanted to laugh, not sleep! )

The Olivia years. It seemed like they forced storylines to include her.

I don't like the episode where Cliff eats too much junk food and goes to sleep and has a dream about Muppets. The one where he dreams that the men are pregnant is bad, too along with the entire episode that centers around Rudy wanting to where a spring dress in the winter.

I soooo agree. That was a waste of a half-hour. Not to be mean or anything like that, but unless you are interested in the Negro College Fund, this is not an episode for you.

I hated the episode where Cliff was running that relay with that famous runner/sprinter. It seems that Cliff had a lot of run-ins with celebs in some way, shape or form.

Anything where the show "visited Hillman".

That episode where the men were playing Pinochle.

Any episode where the "new kids" came on board...Pam, Olivia...Satan.

The Pinochle ep wasn't too bad, more watchable than the ep when Cliff took Rudy and her friends to dinner

....or Olivia or the grandparents, and ANYTHING HILLMAN. They beat that college to death, brought it back to life, and killed it again.

I also found the episodes where the Grandparents came around to be very dull, yet those were always rated to be the best episodes.

Also, that one where cliff eats that kielbasa or something, and he dreams he's having a sandwich as a baby really got me angry that such a good show had to go to such low levels. Were they really running out of storylines by then?

I'm okay with the grandparents. I'm even the only one in the world, who liked Pam. But those fantasy or dream episodes on "The Cosby show" were just stupid. A lot of other family sitcoms would have fantasy episodes or dream episodes, but usually, they turned out funny somehow. But "The Cosby show" failed miserably at this.

Some of the worst episodes that had "outsiders" come onto the scene. Usually these boring adults.

JulieSomoski
06-21-2007, 11:12 PM
Like the episode that was on NAN last night, which was all about that bald white guy trying to get a woman. Who really wants to watch that?

The only episode with 'outsiders' I liked was the season 1 episode, with that kid who doesn't talk at the community center.

Ireneparalegal
06-21-2007, 11:14 PM
One of the best "outsiders" episodes was Cliff's friend whose daughter was a drug user. That man was envious of the great family Cliff had. That is sad.

I can't think of any other good ones where there were "outsiders".

JulieSomoski

I did not like the episodes about Rudy when she told her fantasy in the book, Cliff ran the races, Claire's sister came to dinner with her mom, they went to visit Hillman, Cliff babysits his grandchildren or olivia, cliff takes Rudy's friends to see the Vaudelle show

Furienna
06-24-2007, 07:39 AM
Another thing about the fantasy/dream episodes. You can ignore them, when you watch the show twenty years after its original run, and you know a better episode will be on the next day. But back when the show was in its original run and only was on once a week... You'd waited an antire week for a new episode of "The Cosby show", only to encounter Sondra and Elvin dancing around in a fairytale field, the men giving birth to boats, cars and sandwishes and soda bottles, or muppets being all over the place. That must have been a disappointment!

The episoded titled "Shakespeare". I just seen this episode the other night. God, add this to this list! Ok, grandpa Huxtable and two friends of Cliff's come over. They are "reading" Rudy's fairytale that she wrote for school. First of all, a child her age wouldn't have written such a great fairytale, it was too grammatically PERFECT! The three gentlemen reading the story aloud and with such "dramatic flair" was toooooo much to stomach.

It was bad having that man (can't recall the actor's name right now) who was reading aloud a certain SHAKESPEARE scene. All of this because of Theo and Cockroach who had a homework assignment to do on Shakespeare.

It seems Bill Cosby's goal in this episode was to share some more Shakespeare work and to add some culture to the show or give the audience some culture. I don't know, but I hated it. The only scene I liked was Theo and Cockroach doing that rap Shakespeare song at the end.

I watched the entire season 3 DVD in a few days, and this season was far worse than I thought it was. This was usually a very good season in my opinion, but something about these episodes just didn't hold my attention.

Season 4 is so far pretty good. Not the best, but good. Too bad the seasons just kept on getting worse. Why couldn't they have all stayed to the quality season 1 and 2 had?

JulieSomoski

That whole Martin-Denise-Olivia storyline in the sixth/seventh seasons was just to have new storylines to add to the show, and to have a way to keep Lisa Bonet in the show.

Am I the only one, who liked Pam? I really think she was a good addition to the show, especially since Vanessa went to college in Philly, so there was room for another teenage girl on the show. But... Olivia had no purpose. She was just added to the show because Rudy had gone from little and cute to pre-teen. It really wasn't fair to poor Rudy to add this character. Ten years old is still very young! There was no need to add a new character just to have a child on the show. And also, as cute as Olivia was, she acted too grown up for her age. She acted more grown-up at four than what Rudy did at eight. Something wasn't right there.

1. The fantasy sequence where they had two groups and one was peaceful and the other group was violent
2. Hillman

Furienna
09-09-2007, 08:04 AM
Okay... Where do I begin?

Pam wasn't terrible. I think she was a very interesting character. I think she actually became more interesting than Vanessa, the real Huxtable kid, who she replaced. Tempesst Bledsoe, the actress of the Vanessa character, wanted to go to college, so her episodes in the last two seasons were cut down to a minimum. So they brought in another teenage girl, Pam.

And also, Erika Alexander was nowhere near 35 back then. She was in her early 20s.

I can't speak for everyone, but the reason I can't stand Pam was because she wasn't needed. I remember the summer before she was to be on the show, Bill Cosby hyped that character up. All summer long, the commericals kept calling her 'the mystery new cast member' like Janet Jackson was going to join the show. People around my neighborhood kept guessing the character was going to be someone big, boy, we were disapointed!

I can't stand Olivia or Claire, Claire Huxtable reminded me too much of my very own mother which to this day, I can't stand nor have any contact with.

It's also one of my favorites, especially the part with Theo at the Soup Company meeting, where he takes a huge plate of food-LOL

I don't remember the episode title exactly, but I'm pretty sure it's a season 5 or 6 episode. Can anyone say for sure?

I gotta admit, that food that Theo was wolfing down did look good!

But at this point, Pam WAS needed. Or at least, there was a void, when actress Tempesst Bledsoe wanted to go to college, and her character Vanessa moved to Philadelphia to go to college there. There was room for a new teenage girl, and Pam was introduced. If Vanessa had been around like before, and Pam had still been introduced that year, I would have understood you better. I might be practically alone on this, but I actually have to admit, that I even find Pam a very likable character, almost more likable than Vanessa Huxtable, the one she "replaced". But of course, I didn't grow up with the Huxtables like you did, so of course, I don't get as annoyed with new characters as you did.

But a new character, that wasn't needed at all, was of course Olivia. Not only was she almost creepy with her almost adult dialogues. I wonder if Raven even understood half of what those writers had her say on that show! But putting Olivia on the show wasn't fair at all neither to Keshia Knight Pulliam or her character Rudy. It was like just because Keshia/Rudy was ten years old, she wasn't little and cute anymore, and a new little cute kid had to be introduced and replace her. It was really shameful, almost as bad as kicking Jaimee Foxworth and her Jody character off of "Family Matters".

And I'm so sorry to hear, that you don't get along with your mother, but if she was too much like Claire Huxtable, I have to understand you. Claire was a bitch to everybody, especially to Cliff, and she always just thought she was all that, so she had all the right to act this way.

I just liked Erika Alexander better on "Living Single", she was much funnier and talented and always made me fall out of my seat laughing! I just thought that Rudy was robbed not once, twice of air time. But I did like the episodes involving Lance and Charmaine.

That's okay, I hadn't seen my mother since I was nine which made me hate the character more. My mom was just like her in looks and profession(but she was in real estate) and she just walked out on us...sorry for going on, but yeah, I really didn't like Claire act all, especially doing the last few season where she was a total bitch.

yeah, i forgot about that part - i guess you do remember.

I still don't think Pam was needed. She might have taken the place of Vanessa, but I hated how she was so streetwise. Just by making her like that, plus bringing in the 2 friends, just made the show different.

I guess they were just trying something new. The Huxtable kids had practically been upper class, or at least higher middle class. Pam, however, of course came from a very different background. And well, I actually liked her and her friends, more than what I liked Vanessa or any of her friends.

I hated the episode where Cliff dreams he is pregnant!! I can't even bear to watch that one!
The one with Red Buttons as the dentist....YAWN!!!
One I really hated was when cousin Pam mentioned she wanted to go to college...and her friends were moaning how there is no money for college...her stupid boyfriend was calling her names..."why dont you ask your RICH cousins to help you"....how dumb is that!!! When you have no funds for college...you have FREE AID AVAILABLE!!!! You have state grants (at least in NY!) all kinds of programs for students who are struggling. Of course they don't mention that..they had to have Cousin Cliff and Cousin Clair open their endless bag of money!
I agree that Erika Alexander was great in Living Single! So I am not dissing her, just the Pam character!

The Vanessa is called a "rich girl" episode

Cousin Mimi episode or any episode that features Olivia!

I so agree with you. One reason I hate the scene in ROSEANNE where Becky is bitching and moaning abt her parents using all her college fund money and left her with NOTHING. BOO HOO YOU BIG BRAT! I stated on that forum that there is FREE AID AVAILABLE as you so clearly pointed out here. There are loans, grants, etc. There is so much out there. My niece went to UCLA, one of the best universities around and she had so many outlets to get the $$ she needed for books, tuition, and other college fees. It's just a matter of looking and searching HARD! It doesn't come easy. Pam and her friends were just stupid and lazy (like Denise) they wanted things to come easy but attending college and how to pay for it is one of the first steps to "the real world".

LOL!!!!!AMEN SISTA!!! I hated that episode of Rosanne too, I wanted to slap Becky so bad!!

Which one of Pams friends ended up at Hillman in the later episodes of A Different World? I think it was Charmaine! I guess she found money somewhere huh???

Charmaine had better grades than Pam though. She could easily have gotten some scholarship or something, that Pam wasn't able to get with her poorer grades.

By the way, I liked that episode. I felt so sorry for Pam.

Hey there!! How was your weekend?

There are free federal grants that are available even with poor grades. The reason why I always want to scream at the tv when this episode comes on, is that I grew up in NY, went to public HS, had lousy grades (somethingI am NOT proud of!) and was still able to to get what is known as a PELL and a BEOG grant totally free that would allow me to go to CUNY (City college of NY) so there are options. This was years ago, but I know they still have these options. I know its just a tv show, but it bugged the crap out of me!

Hmmm... I'm not American, so I didn't know that. But I supposed, that going to college, or at least an university, in the US was like it was still was over here in Sweden too only some fifty years ago. You either needed money or good grades. But these days, anyone here in Sweden can get money from the goverment for six years to study after High School. But most of it are actually loans, that you struggle for years to pay back. But now that you mention it, I guess there are foundings also for students with poor grades even in the US. How ignorant of me!

OMG! I thought I was the only one that got hungry whenever I watched that episode.

To address everything else. I loved Pam. She was a little more relatable for some other teens/kids that watched the show, like myself.

Olivia had her cute days and then she had her over-the-top days.

I love Claire. Growing up seeing how she ran Cliff, I made the mistake of thinking that was acceptable. Until recently, I could not figure out why my husband wouldn't eat what/how I wanted him to. I thought there was something wrong with HIM.:o

I know . . . those hoagies always looks good to me-LOL. I'm not sure if it was the same episode you're talking about, but in one scene, Cliff and Theo were watching a commercial for fatty foods, and Cliff spit the hoagie into a napkin, and we saw it dropping out of his mouth. I think I turned away from the TV the first time I saw that-LOL

I think they showed what an old man's heart looked like, if he had eaten too much fat. It was like an imformercial, if that's how you spell it. Cliff spat his food out, disgusted and/or scared of what he saw, while Theo kept on eating his without a worry. But he knew what his father was about to do and gave him the napkin. LOL! But that's not the same episode, that Salomon (?) was talking about earlier, but the episode where Claire and Elvin's mother took the twins from Sondra.

I knew it was one of the episodes with Sondra and Elvin. Anyways, still a great scene!

I managed to watch the first two thirds of that episode recently, so it wasn't so difficult for me to pin the episode down.

And yeah, that scene is good, and especially Theo was funny. He didn't care about it himself, but knew how his father would react...
