I remember that a friend of Missy Munday posted in the forum, trying to defend her a while ago. Is it true?

I wonder if Missy ever got parole? According to the Unsolved Mysteries segment she never shot Elmer so she probably was charged with complicity.

Missy Munday never served a day in prison for her involvement in the crime. In exchange for her testimony against Strickland all charges against her were dropped.

That's nice to hear.

... I cannot for the life of me remember this case.

Off to Google search I go... :)

Also, Space Invaderz... is that cat BOWLING I see in your avatar? LOL.

it's unclear what, if any, involvement Munday had in the crimes. I'm not even sure she could get an accessory/aiding a criminal charge. One of the law enforcement persons in the segment claimed that Munday was as dangerous as Strickland. I always thought that was a bogus statement. I think I would be more terrified of running into Strickland in a dark alley as opposed to Munday.

Cricci you would have loved the update to the Strickland case where he talks about the case being "circlestantive" evidence......

It really aggravated me that Missy didn't get anything for the crime. In the articles Justin posted about them a while back she admits to being in on the robbery and said they picked Monday because he would have more money then. She claims he was going to handcuff them together and rob Elmer and Jerry was going to "rape" her... so if nothing else she should have been on trial for robbery. I also wonder if she was pregnant with their 2nd child when UM aired their case because when they were arrested soon after the UM segment aired neighbors talked about their child Jamie but later on I notices it says they have 2 children together.

After reading that and re-watching the update, I learned that Munday is in fact guilty. I guess I had forgot. Stack says she could have gotten life without the possibility of parole, so she definitely got off extremely easy.

Another funny thing in that update was when they show Strickland's denial of it, then cut to Stack saying something like "Thanks to our viewers, Strickland is now in prison." I guess that lets us know what Stack thought of Strickland's denial.

Strickland will never get out. I found out recently that in Michigan for first degree murders that occurred on or after January 1st, 1979 there is a mandatory life without the possiblity of parole sentence. I believe Michigan was one of the first states in the country to adopt life without parole. So the only way that Strickland could ever get out is if on appeal he was able to get a plea bargain down to 2nd degree murder. In Michigan you can get sentenced to anywhere from I believe 8 years to life in prison. Some people that are originally charged with first degree murder are allowed to plead guilty to 2nd degree murder and are usually sentenced to life but 2nd degree murder convictions that are life sentences I believe are eligible for parole after I want to say 15 years but it might be more, someone will have to check on that. I just know in Michigan from 1979 onward first degree murder convictions carry a mandatory life without parole sentence.

It'tl probably land on its feet though. They have a remarkable ability to land on their feet after being dropped from high places. I can tell you that from experience.

Just seen this one for the first time...so there was an update? It kinda reminded me of the Margo Freshwater case. Missy was just as guilty as Strickland, she had plenty of opportunity to get away, especially at the car dealership when she had 2 hrs alone w/ the salesman! Geesh!!!

yep there was an update, they were caught, although they didn't punish Missy in exchange for her giving up info on Strickland. Strickland is still behind bars, and probably will be for quite awhile.

Much has been said (mostly negative) about Jerry Strickland's comment about the circumstantial evidence against him. However, if I remember the update right, Missy Munday testified against him and (maybe) got a lighter sentence because of it.

If the state had such a strong case against him, they would likely have not needed Missy's testimony to convict him. So there may have been circumstantial against him.

Let me add that I do believe Jerry is guilty and I do not condone in any way what he did.

They probably could have convicted him without her cooperation, but then she would have also gotten a much stricter sentencing as well. It made perfect sense to build a stronger case as to not rely only on circumstantial evidence, and also to get the truth regarding her involvement.

Or So It Seems

Most likely the police did not recover the gun used to kill Elmer and couldn't tie it to Strickland. So they probably didn't have slam-dunk physical evidence and needed Munday's testimony to get a conviction.

we've seen convictions for a lot less. I think he was going to get it regardless, it became a slam dunk when she testified against him. his remarks after he was arrested just made him appear arrogant and idiotic.

All that could change very quickly, the national trend now is towards lighter or no sentences and it would not surprise me if eliminating life sentences becomes a trend. They can always pass a law to retroactively reduce sentences.

Clockwork

People wonder why crimes continue to happen at the rate they do. It is because they don't put dangerous people behind bars. Strickland wasn't a brain surgeon, the idea that he would get off without Missy's testimony against him is bogus. He deserves to rot behind bars. Missy I will say may not deserve life in prison, but she should have gotten a heavy sentence herself. What sort of plea deal is that letting her off scot free? Elmer isn't dead if not for her involvement. And the times she could have said something or made a phone call or called for help or even said something to that car salesman guy that she had over two hours to say it to him as she was alone and without Strickland, it just makes me ill she was never held accountable.
