Do you or did you ever get any? I've been very good about it. I got a speeding ticket about 12 years ago, but it was one of those stupid deals, driving 43 mph in a 35 limit area. I think I've gotten only about three or four parking tickets.

My husband, on the other hand, used to be a menace on the road. The moving violations had our car insurance through the roof.

I got a ticket recently for having an expired inspection sticker on my car. A couple of years ago, I got a speeding ticket, but luckily I got it thrown out.

The last ticket I received was in 2001. It was for a "rolling stop" or as we call them here a "California Stop". I got off lucky. The cop told me I was speeding as well. At that time I had a cell phone and I told him I was distracted on the phone and really not paying attention. Because of my honesty he let me go with just the ticket for not making the complete stop. It was shortly after that, that I got rid of the cell phone.

Ironically, I got pulled over for speeding two weeks ago. I was doing 55 in a 35 miles per hour street. It was a Sunday afternoon with no traffic, and I was just cruising. The cop came out of nowhere. But, he didn't ticket me. He just gave me this paper to sign and mail it in to the town court I was stopped in.

Yeah damn california stops. My mom got a ticket for one of those too. When she was asked for the registration of the car she coulden't find it and the cop said ok I trust you and let her off. It's like the cop just drove out of the bushes he came out of nowhere!

I did get a parking ticket once for leaving my car on the street overnight. I meant to put the car in the driveway, but fell asleep! :o Next thing I know, it's morning and there's a ticket on the windshield. $10 down the drain.

I did get stopped twice for speeding. :o Thankfully, I just got off with warnings. I'm much more careful about speeding limits these days, and keep my eyes peeled for cop cars.

I always got tickets when I was younger, mostly for inspection or registration, for some reason I let those things slide alot.

Since I haven't owned a car in ten years i don't remember the last time I got a ticket, so I guess my driving record is clean.

I deserve a cookie for that.

I was pulled over last year for doing 52 in a 35 mph zone. I passed the cop and pulled over even before he pulled out of the parking lot, because I knew I was getting pulled over

I started crying to get my way out of it, plus I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. He just gave me a warning. I now watch my speed regularly.

I don't drive yet, but we don't get tickets here on base, my dad just gets yelled at by his boss.

My friend paul got a ticket. $138!

Have any of you gotten speeding tickets? Was the officer who pulled you
over a he or a she? Were they polite or rude to you? This discussion can
include traffic violations other than speeding.
I merged your post into mine since they were so similiar.

I've been pulled over for speeding a few times but I've only gotten one ticket. Everytime its been a male cop thats pulled me over, some were nice and a couple were real jerks. My husband has gotten more tickets than me, one for parking in the wrong direction and one for parking over the white line (which I'd never heard of before) and one for driving too close to the car in front of him and several speeding tickets.

I got pulled over once, at 1AM, because my...rear license plate light, or whatever was out. Oh and I was going 40 in a 35. The guy wrote me a warning and everything.

I never got a speeding ticket but did get a few parking tickets in the past. These days, I never get speeding or parking tickets because I'm the one issuing them lol

Dr. Jazz, what is your normal procedure when making traffic violation stops?

- Notify driver as to why they are being pulled over (warning or citation)
- Ask to see driver's license and registration
- Run a 10-27 or 10-28 through the metro dispatcher
- If everything comes back all right, I complete the ticket and have the driver sign the bottom and give them their copy.

I've got it down to 5 minutes lol

Right now I'm on State Farm's Good Student Discount. I have to keep up my good grades and not have any tickets or accidents (faulted by me).

So far so good! I get nearly $20 knocked off.

Honestly, I do bend rules sometimes and I really need to reevaluate this because I can't forgo the discount. And more importanly... my life.

What happens if you get a report that the person is wanted on felony
charges and it becomes a felony vehicle stop?

Call for back-up and wait till the other unit arrives to inform the driver that they're under arrest. Usually when I'm running a 10-27, metro will tell me "negative NCIC" which means there's no criminal record or outstanding warrants on the driver.

Boy are you lucky he let you off. You get caught doing that up here and they'll throw the book atchya.

My husband totalled his car a couple of years ago using his BlackBerry. He didn't dare tell the cop he was using it at the time - just said he was distracted by looking at the radio. Even then, he was charged with dangerous driving. Luckily it got thrown out of court, but it still affected his insurance big time.

I use a BlackBerry, but always only with a Bluetooth. If a call comes in and I don't have it on, I let it go, then at a light, check the number and call back with the bluetooth. I've just heard of too many people in accidents with cell phones.

I got nailed for speeding a few years back. Stupid me - there was a van ahead of me that was going the same speed, but she (dyke cop) let him go and caught me. When I mentioned it to her, she said, "oh well, he was able to slow down before I could get him on radar." Meanwhile, I was only about a carlength or two behind him. If that's the case, how could I still be speeding without going THROUGH him? I was going to fight it but was worried that my version would get me nailed for following too close then. ugh

Only I could get the one dyke cop I couldn't flirt with!

Damn! You're a cop Dr. Jazz!? Wish I had known you when I got that speeding ticket to get your opinion.

I get so nervous around "the law" (meaning the courts, etc.). Just was always taught to have so much respect for them that I look back now, and didn't fight for what I felt was right. Although, got to admit, although I don't think I was speeding as much as she said, still knew I had been speeding, and have done it LOTS in the past. I just sucked it up figuring that in all my years of driving, one speeding ticket isn't bad and I'd be due for it. It was a BIG ticket too - $313 and 3 points, but it was reduced to $90 and 2 points so it wouldn't affect my insurance.

Never have had a parking ticket or anything else other than that.

Oh yeah, there was that one for soliciting....but....er....

When you make an arrest, when handcuffing procedures do you use?

Always cuff behind the back - that way they are basically sitting on their hands when they're in the back seat of the cruiser.

Yeah, I've been a police officer for a while now. You can see me in action on an upcoming episode of "Cops" on FOX airing later this summer lol I'll let you guys know the air date whenever I find it out. It should be a pretty good episode because we were very busy the night they were taping with us.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to get the ticket and points reduced if it's your very first ticket. After the first one though, you most likely gotta know somebody in the dept. to get it reduced.

You better stay off those street corners woman! ;)

Trust me, these days, I'd be having to pay THEM! ;)

So if this was years ago (geez, I think about 7 now) and I ever got pulled over again, would there be any record of it at all?

That irks me if it would! Hell, while she was running me, some bonehead was flying southbound. I even honked my horn to get her attention so she could see him (she was looking at the computer). She thanked me and took off after him. I waited like 10 mins. for her. She came back and thanked me again and said that she was really pissed because he had a toddler in the car with him. That's when she said that she could NOT give me the ticket, but to contest it ahead of court and it would be reduced. I guess that's why I didn't want to take it further since she at least did that for me.

In most states/provinces a speeding ticket disapears after 10 years from your immediate record on file with the police department. It would remain in your "driver history" file at the DMV forever though.

Yes I am, and "Cops" filmed two episodes with us back in January and they are supposed to air sometime in August.

O.k. - cool thx. Just 3 more years to really keep my nose clean then! ;)

I have to admit though, I've really made an effort since then to watch my speed and "road rage". I used to get so worked up in highway traffic jams. Finally it dawns on you that the only person you're hurting is yourself with your blood pressure.
The only time I might sneak over the limit by 10 - 15 kms/hr (and the cops seem to let it go here anyway) is when I'm late for work or something important. If you push it over that, then they'll come for you and I don't blame them then. That, or near the end of the month if they need to hit quota. ;)

Yeah for sure! That would really be cool to watch.

Don't tell me, you arrest some drunken, unshaved white dude in a wife beater, smoking a cigarette that you take out of his mouth while he's being cuffed all the while he's asking what you're arresting him for.

That, or you chase down a black guy on the run (which shouldn't be too hard if he's wearing those droopy hiphop stovepipe pants). ;)

Seriously tho, that will be cool to see. I thought they just ran reruns over the summer. I should catch up.
