His apartment was filthy. I know he was a bachelor, but to be a slob at 20 is understandable, but at 50?! Mel was a mature enough male to be a little bit more neat than he was.

View Full Version : Wasn't Mel too old to be living like a slob? GARFIELDKOOL 06-01-2007, 07:55 PM His apartment was filthy. (Sorry Dad, you know I love you, but it's the truth). Ireneparalegal 06-01-2007, 07:58 PM I see your point Kool. He must have just been one of those lazy dudes who figures "why make the bed"? or "I'll get to it later." Man, I am lucky I never met a man who was like that. All the guys I ever knew kept things clean. That is a sign! FredScuttle 06-01-2007, 08:38 PM You're never too old to be a slob ;) Brian Damage 06-02-2007, 12:47 AM I also noticed that Alice had a much bigger and nicer place than Mel. No wonder he was struggling! LOL catlover79 06-02-2007, 07:27 AM I also noticed that Alice had a much bigger and nicer place than Mel. No wonder he was struggling! LOL What's up with that? Did she clean up on tips?? Brian Damage 06-02-2007, 10:06 AM What's up with that? Did she clean up on tips?? Now I am curious to see where Flo and Vera live to make a comparison. FredScuttle 06-02-2007, 04:23 PM Now I am curious to see where Flo and Vera live to make a comparison. Flo lives in a small trailer, so it's very cramped. I don't know if it was even shown more than once, but it did have a funny scene in it on "The Principal of the Thing" (also the first episode where we finally get to see Bubba). Vera's apartment is first shown in the episode "Vera's Broken Heart". Both should be coming up soon, as they're both 3rd season episodes (3rd season starts on Wed of this week). Vera's is one big room (with perhaps a kitchen and bathroom separately, but I don't recall them ever showing anything but the main room), with one of those loft style beds in it (like college students typically have in their dorm) Scoobiedoo30 06-02-2007, 04:32 PM my room loks like that from time to time GARFIELDKOOL 06-02-2007, 10:17 PM Mel's Diner couldn't have been that profitable by judging on how his apartment looked. Most business owners have their own house, Mel lived like he was an employee. catlover79 06-02-2007, 10:19 PM Flo lives in a small trailer, so it's very cramped. I'm guessing it's nowhere as nice as the studio apartment at 119 N. Weatherly, Minneapolis, MN. ;) Brian Damage 06-02-2007, 10:23 PM Mel's Diner couldn't have been that profitable by judging on how his apartment looked. GARFIELDKOOL 06-02-2007, 10:25 PM Aside from his regulars, the place was always half empty. Yes it was. The Jerry Reed episode, was probably the most crowed. My mom picked up after my father their whole married life together, and he was well over 50 when he passed away. Face it, men are meant to be slobs. My place looks similar to that until I have female company-lol But if it's just me I 'm in no hurry to starighten everything out GARFIELDKOOL 06-05-2007, 07:11 PM Why does that surprise you? Face it, men are meant to be slobs. That's a sexist generalization coming from the female point of view. I wouldn't say most men are slobs. There are a lot of females that are slobs. I stopped being a slob when I hit my 20s. My three brothers maintain clean apartments. One of my brother's ex always left dirty dishes in her sink and rarely cooked. One of my ex's never made the bed up until the afternoon. Are genders are slobs, and all genders are neat. Works both ways. One thing that attracted me to my boyfriend (and my ex-husband) was how they cleaned and picked up after themselves. After getting to know them they both had something in common; their mothers taught them how to clean, wash clothes, wash dishes, basically "how to take care of yourself" because one day you will have to. If I dated a man and seen that he was a slob or didn't have a tidy place, that would tell me that he would be like that ALL THE TIME and he would expect someone else to clean up after him. HELL NO, NO WAY! Not me. Flo's trailer was so damn cramped. She had that one small party and no one could move around in there. Alice and her date sat at the table, Flo and her guy stood in the hallway (two feet away  ) and then there was Vera right next to them. As soon as more people arrived (unexpectedly) it was so damn tight Flo would have been cited by the fire dept. for over capacity. GARFIELDKOOL 06-05-2007, 07:35 PM One thing that attracted me to my boyfriend (and my ex-husband) was how they cleaned and picked up after themselves. Why not be a slob if someone is going to always clean up your mess? This is not so common these days as it was decades ago. Many women today would not want to be a "housewipe" and pick up after their husbands to the extent that they used to. |
