GARFIELDKOOL 05-15-2007, 07:07 PM Does 60 Minutes qualify as a show?
catlover79 05-15-2007, 07:28 PM Does 60 Minutes qualify as a show?
Oh yes! It's been running since 1968. If we can count Meet The Press, we should add 60 Minutes.
mrpotato531 05-15-2007, 07:29 PM Well, 7th Heaven just ended its run Sunday night as the longest-running family drama in TV history.
11 seasons, 243 episodes. It actually outlived the WB Monday night lineup, which only lasted 10 years. The WB's first season (out of 11) did NOT have a Monday night primetime schedule!
Ireneparalegal 05-15-2007, 07:37 PM Does 60 Minutes qualify as a show?
But of course. All shows, whether they are sport shows, soaps, nature shows, dramas, talk shows, etc.
TVListinGuy 05-15-2007, 11:45 PM Today premiered in 1952.

I
and GUNSMOKE was on the radio starting in 1951 and ran until 1960 or 61-I'm not sure.
And, yes, that means it was on against the TV version for a while; but the radio version had a different cast. William Conrad played Matt, Parley Bear was Chester, Geiorga Ellis was Kitty, and Howard McNear (FLOYD ON "The Andy Griffith show) was Doc.
treky 05-16-2007, 01:48 AM BONANZA-ran from 1959 to 74
THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES-ran from 1962 to 71

treky 05-16-2007, 01:56 AM Whether they are game shows, dramas, comedies, etc. list some of the longest-running shows:

THE TONIGHT SHOW: Started in 1957 and continues to this day with Jay Leno.
WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS: Started in 1961 and ended in August 2006.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT was first on in 1965, but I don't know when it went off, so it was revived in 1972.
And THE TONIGHT SHOW started in 1951. Steve Allen was the first host until 1956 (I think) then Jack Parr until 1962, Johnny Carson until 1992, then Jay Leno who's due to step down and replaced by Conan O'Brian in 2010.
Today premiered in 1952.
So did "Hockey Night In Canada", Canada's longest-running TV sports show.
The original "Price is Right" ran from 1958-66 and then was revived in 1972.
I should also add "American Bandstand". It started as a local show in the Philadelphia area in 1952. Dick Clark took over as host in 1956. In 1957, the show went national, appearing on ABC, where it remained for the next 30 years.

This isn't necessarily in order, but nonetheless, let's include some TV cartoon shows that have run for a total of 8 years or more. This is still a good topic, so let's expand it some more.

I haven't seen Cops or The Simpsons in years unless you count the cops chasing OJ Simpson.
catlover79 05-27-2007, 11:02 AM America's Most Wanted has been on since 1988. I've always admired John Walsh, who suffered a major tragedy, and has devoted his life to making sure criminals get their just desserts. He and his wife have lobbied Congress several times to make tougher laws.

This is a show that needs to be on forever. It helps the police. I remember when it debuted on FOX back in 1988. It came on Sunday nights. And in those days, their hotline number changed with the years. It's now 1-800-Crime-TV, back then it was 1-800-Crime-88-89-90, etc.

It went off the air for a while but it came back after the public demanded that this show remain on the air for all the good it has done. I agree. This is the kind of show that has captured criminals that if not by any other means, at least by the simple fact that their mugshot was shown. When you see the stories of how some criminals have been caught simply by living next door to someone who happens to watch the show speaks volumes. You can't get better "publicity" than that. Now, if only we had a show that showcased missing persons that would be awesome. I would love to see missing children returned to their families.

American Most Wanted is one of my favorite shows but I haven't watch it in years though :( I never knew the show went off the air and then came back but can't really blame the public for doing that. I agree about doing a show that showcased missing persons, it would help missing children return to their families
I do wonder if American Most Wanted will ever release on DVD? I would buy them if they do
Scoobiedoo30 06-16-2007, 01:00 AM I did not know Soul Train was on The air for 35 Year's

Toward the end of episodes of Without a Trace, they will show a missing person (picture, date missing, where from, etc) with a phone number to call the FBI. Then the next day on the Early Show, they'd do a story on that missing person. A dad managed to reunite with his children because they were showcased at the end of WAT.
Dynomite 06-16-2007, 09:53 AM Did anyone mention America's Funniest Home Videos? It's returning for season 19(AFHV has been on ABC-TV since early 1990). Bob Saget was the original host. He was succeeded by both Daisy Fuentes and John Fugelsang, who in turn were replaced by current host, Tom Bergeron. This fall, Ricki Lake is expected to be Tom Bergeron's co-host on AFHV.

12 years (for MADtv) going on 13 in the fall! i'm so proud :mrtarver:

Scoobiedoo30 06-16-2007, 06:21 PM it seems just like yesterday Mad TV Debuted on FOX

It does. I remember when it started. I was thinking they would cancel it right away. Not that it wasn't funny, but I was thinking that too many people would compare it to SNL. I am glad MadTV proved itself.

My dad was watching a rerun of that the other day...had to have been an episode from the early 2000s because they did a Family Feud spoof and Louie Anderson was still the host...and while it was still kinda lame, I could totally tell it was better than SNL recently, because I actually laughed.
SNL in the mid-late 80s was the best though, imo.
TubeYak.com 06-17-2007, 12:34 PM I've been a fan of price is right for many years now. Too bad bob parker left.
Mikado 06-18-2007, 06:03 PM Front Page Challenge.....Game show that ran on the CBC for 38 years
Hockey Night in Canada.....Saturday night staple since 1952 ( And on radio for at least 20 years before that )
The Beachcombers.....A CBC "dramady" that lasted for more than 25 years
comedyfreak 06-23-2007, 05:44 AM Lassie ran from 1954-1974.
