I have mine for emergencies only; like you, I don't talk on it all the time but it's good to have it just in case. My boyfriend uses his all the time; that's his main line. In my opinion, some people overuse their cell phones too much.

I had one through my job. But I was using it off the clock, so they took it away. I am going to get one, not because of the fad, but for emergencies. I am not a phone person.

I could live without it. Since I got it last summer, I may have used it 15 times.

I can't live without mine. I take it with me wherever I go. I got rid of my land line in my apartment a few years ago, so it's my only means of communication.

And it allows me to send annoying text messages to my friends at all hours.

I'm not a phone person either. I really only have mine for emergencies and such. I've only given my cell number to my immediate family and a few close friends. Mine is not attached to my ear 24/7.

The thing I really hate is how you can't go anyplace now without someone yapping away or their phone going off. This includes the library, classrooms, work and even the ladies' room. Yes, some women talk on their cell phones in the stalls. That really tees me off, but what can you do??

Couldn't live without mine. We haven't had a landline here at home in a long time. For the longest time, it was just my mom who had a cell phone here at home... then I got my phone on my 21st birthday last year. It's very, Very, VERY handy for if I need to get a ride (I will never be able to drive). It has also virtually eliminated my need to use an online relay website to place my calls.

Can't live without mine. Monday-Friday I am on it constantly. Be it for work or home. The weekends are usually less crazy, so I get a bit of a break. Would love to live without it, but right now that is not an option.

I couldn't live without mine. I don't have a landline, so it's my only lifeline. My mother would worry about me even more if she couldn't contact me through it.

My cell phone also doubles as a notebook and reminds me of things I need to do. Most importantly, it's my alarm clock.

Life is possible without my little cell. But it certainly would be less portable.

Well I say after school a lot so I need mine. I talk on the phone a lot but when I'm at home I'd rather use my home phone.

I can't say I can't live without it because I'm not on it all hours of the day. But if I didn't have it, I would be paranoid that something would happen, like I would break down somewhere out in the middle of nowhere. I use mine mostly for work anyway.

I'm not much of a phone person either and like 'catlover' said, I, too, hate that you can't walk anywhere, inside or out and be subjected to somebody else's conversation. Are people so self-involved that they think other people would really be so interested in what goes on in their lives?:sleep2:

And talking to somebody while you're sitting on the toilet? Ewwwww! Here's hoping it slips out of your hand and falls in the toilet bowl!!

I don't have one, but I want one. I think they are a great thing, but they can be overused. Where people talk at dinner. Just don't talk on it for a while & enjoy your meal.

They're nice for emergencies obviously. I'm also one of those people who like to have one when I'm grocery shopping so I can call and ask if I should pick anything else up while I'm there. Other than that, all I use my phone for is texting and playing games. And the occasional internet surfing. That comes in handy sometimes.

I hate people that act as if they didn't have it, they'd die. What did you people do before you could talk on the phone in the car?? Wait perhaps?

My phone died just as my mom called me at Target. I wanted to find out what she needed, so I used a payphone. I had no change, so I called 1-800-Collect. To spell out collect, I friggin started doing it the text way, by pressing the 2 button 3 times for C. 1st off, I hadn't used a payphone in years, and 2, I do something really pathetic like that.

Damn cell society. lol

The law of evolution, dear! Before cell phones arrived on the scene, Humans had adapted to an environment in which they could thrive without instant access to someone on the other side of town or even the country. When cell phones became widely available, they thought, "Well! This could be a little convenient."

Before you knew it, the cell phone became a part of the human organism. Separate the two, and they both die. It's science!

My dad asked one of his teenage female students how she would have liked to live back in his day when there was no such thing as a cell phone. Her exact quote?? "I'D DIE!!" Indeed!

When I go to school in Fullerton my cell phone is the only way I can talk to my family, since I don't have a regular phone and don't plan on getting one.

I didn't get one until I was 31 I think so I'm sure I could live without it. They are convenient to have if, like someone said earlier, you're at the store and you want to check something real quick. They are also good for emergencies. But YES, it is annoying when people use them in the bathroom, like someone said earlier, AND when you're waiting in line at the store or fast food or whatever and some idiot can't even order or pay without talking on their damn phone and they are holding up everyone else.

I've never once owned a cell phone. To tell you the truth, I don't really need it. If anyone wants to contact me, they can call my house or job (I give out my work number to a few close friends and family), or they can do so by myspace message, email, etc.

However, I would like to invest in a pre-paid Trac phone of sorts so I can take it with me for emergencies (like the few times I've been stranded at school because of car troubles and stuff). That's when a cell phone is handy to have...other than that, I have no use for one.

Those prepaid ones are nice if you don't use a phone a whole lot. I have one and it's nice not having to pay for minutes I'll never use.

I use my BlackBerry only when I have to. And even then, I make sure I use it with a Bluetooth. If I'm in a store or restaurant I will go outside to complete an incoming call. I hate it when people yap away so everyone can hear the conversation - incredibly rude!

I hate to see what's going to happen in the next 20 years with brain tumours. I've known MANY people who've lost loved ones to brain tumours and all of them used their cell phones all the time. My dentist lost BOTH parents within a month of each other to brain tumours and he's since done extensive research on it and is convinced they caused their cancers.

I'm also reading lately that there could be link to the use of cell phones and the decline in bee population throughout north america (the signals confuse the bees). Hey - it's possible.

They're great, but I would advise to keep the use of them to a bare minimum.

Good gosh. How did humans ever get through life before the cell phone? If someone needs to talk 24/7 stay at home and gab on the phone if someone feels they are so important. I don't wish to hear your conversation at the gas pump, the checkout line, and yes, help me, the public restroom. Stay at home and talk. And most of all keep the phone out of your ear when driving.

the gas pump

That scares me. I'm afraid they're going to make the gas pump blow up or something. Like those lazy bitches who get back in their cars while they are pumping. STAND OUTSIDE THE CAR AND GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!!

My cell phone is a necessity. I am a manger of 20 people and need to be in contact with them at all times. It just so happens that my business is responsible for the cell phones. At least in part. I work for a company that builds and leases cell phone towers. So you can praise me if you like cell phones, or you can curse me if you don't.

Either way, cell phones are here to stay. In fact my company just released their forecast for 2008 and we are expected to increase our tower count from 2500, to over 3000 by this same time next year....

P.S. I don't talk on my cell phone when I am pumping gas. That is just crazy and not entirely safe.

P.P.S My 10 year old son has a cell phone after a recent scare where we couldn't find him and thought he was missing. They have a GPS locator in them, so they come in very handy for that.....

Using a cell phone for work purposes or keeping track of your kids is perfectly fine. I think most of us are talking about inane personal conversations that the rest of us couldn't care less about. I don't need to hear what some stranger's plans are for the weekend when I'm in the ladies' room!!

In this day and age, it makes no sense to have a landline unless you have a family or something who always stays at home. Since I'm home about 1/4 of the day, it's pointless to have a phone here. So my cell is my only means of communication to work, family, friends, etc. And it double as an emergency aide, especially for me since I live in the mountains. Like if I'm on a hike in the mountains and get so lost that I have no clue where I am, that cell phone can save my life.

Even though I have a cell, I disagree about not having a landline. They're still more secure than cordless or cells. There's certain conversations that I would never have over a cell phone - with my bank or when I file my taxes by telephone. If you're using a cell for those tasks, it's very easy to tap into the conversation and pickup your social security/insurance numbers and other personal info that can be used in identity theft.
Also, during blackouts like the one in August 2003, cell batteries will drain - I had my landline handy still which was great because I live in the country and it isn't easy getting to a payphone.

And yes - using a cell while pumping gas is insane. You might as well spark up a smoke while you're at it. I actually yelled at a guy one night who was on his cell right next to me while we were filling our tanks. I had my bluetooth on, but had shut off the BlackBerry on my front seat so no calls could come through. If he wants to blow himself up, fine, but don't take the rest of us with you jerk!

Also - NO phones should be using during thunderstorms - again, unless you're into going out into fields holding aluminum poles during them too.

I like my cellphone and its features because it has its convenience, but I do not like talking on it for 24/7 or for hours on end. I don't get too immersed in it.

I am glad that after such a long time, my city has forbidden cellphone usage while driving. You can get pulled over and ticketed if you are caught. I noticed a lot of people don't use their cellphones while driving, but there are still some people who do. Still, it has gone down.
