I'm wondering if anyone on this board has ever met someone that was featured on UM. I know someone had posted here saying they had met Ethel Kidd (before she was murdered). I personally have never known or met anyone that was on UM.

My Grandfather was interviewed by UM. He was one of the original invetigators on the Sharon Kinney case. His segment did not air for whatever reason though.

No, but I'm dying to run into Bob Bean sometime. I would tell him that he was great on Unsolved Mysteries, and he would probably provide me with a few additional laughs. Sorry, I know I keep talking about Bob Bean, but the guy is just that awesome.

I've said this before: In the Dannion Brinkley segment, I knew the victims of the double homicide (very little) that he investigated and I knew the person who killed them (somewhat better--he was my brother's friend and I ran around with the killer's little sister for years..)

I knew one years ago very well & if I'm not mistaken he was on the first or second episode. An old friend of mine who had a business in Tucson, Az. , an auto mechanics shop behind his home, became friends with an older guy named Charlie Stolzenberg, or something close to that last name.

Everyone came to just know him as Charlie. He was a quiet, pleasant guy, who for about a year was always at my friends shop watching him work , and talking to customers or whoever happened to be there, including myself many times. He had real long grey hair, wore in a pony tail, always wore a cowboy hat, probably late 50's, early 60's in age. He was very likeable and became good friends with everyone who came by to visit our mechanic friend. One of my best friends here in Tucson used to work as a mechanic with my friend and would pick Charlie up from his apartment everyday to bring him to the shop.

He told me that for many years he worked as an embalmer, and more recently he owned a limo service in Las Vegas that for some reason didn't work out and he had to close. Turns out he supposedly killed his partner in that deal. He seemed so trustworthy that I never thought twice when he offered to keep an eye on my baby daughter one day as she slept, so I could run down the road for about 20 minutes to get parts for my truck that was being worked on. My friend was also there at the time, who was like family to me, My daughter had been cranky and I had finally gotten her to go to sleep and didn't want to wake her, & I was only to be gone a few minutes. I came right back, she was still asleep and I never thought about it again until later when everything came down.

Bob Weeks, or Charlie, my friend, and a few other friends, invented a new kind of ashtray that they all invested in that they named "Snuff-It" (how appropriate because I never thought about that name till now, and I'm pretty sure that Charlie came up with it). Anyway they were waiting to get a patent on it, so they could start producing them. At the time Charlie had just started going out with an ex-girlfriend of mine.

One Thursday afternoon Charlie told us that he needed to run over to San Diego to close out a bank account . He left the next day and was back at my friends by Monday. Later we found out that he actually went there to see a nurse/girlfriend that he knew, killed her, closed out his bank account, was recognized by a bank employee that at the time was well informed of people on the FBI's most wanted list, called them, but he was already gone before anyone could capture him.

Anyway he was back in Tucson for about a week when Unsolved Mysteries aired for the second time, I guess, a story about this guy Bob Weeks who the FBI had been looking for as the suspect of multiple murders over the last 20 years of old girlfriends and ex-business partners. He had been spotted in San Diego the previous week by a bank employee and was suspected of killing a nurse over the weekend. Turns out that about 20 people that he had become friends with over the past year here in Tucson recognized him and called in after seeing the show. FBI helicopters, swat teams, the whole police dept. it seemed converged on my friends house and arrested him when they found him there.

One of the stories I heard later was that he had told a couple of friends of mine who were sitting around talking one day that if he ever had to kill anyone, being an embalmer at one time, he would just cut them up into pieces and get rid of the parts in different ways and would never get caught. At the time nobody thought it to be anything more than just idle talk.

Anyway, He is the only one that I ever knew that was on the show, and that was quite enough.

My sister went to high school with Eddie Rutkowski. He was the actor who played Adam Emery, the Rhode Island killer who was believed to have jumped off the Newport Bridge (his wife's remains were found in the river in 1994, but Adam Emery himself has yet to be found).

Since my sister and Rutkowski knew were classmates, I'm sure I met him at one time or another. But any memories I might have of that are vague, and this was a decade before his guest appearance on UM.

Wow, what a story! Thanks for sharing that with us joemama. Yes I know that Robert Weeks story well. It was on one of what we refer as the "Pre-Stack Specials". I didn't realize he had killed several others but I guess I shouldn't be suprised. The UM segment focused on three women (I believe the first was a wife and other two girlfriends) who all disappeared over a span of 15 years all after having dinner with Robert Weeks. In fact I think they mentioned all three of them were set to break up with him when they disappeared. That is very interesting about him being am embalmer, has anyone been able to confirm that? I didn't know if it could just be a story he made up. Well I guess that could explain why none of the three missing women ever turned up (to my knowledge anyway). I know he was sentenced to prison for murder. Do you know if he is still alive and if so how many years in prison he got?

I used to know Chip Chirimbes, who portrayed the bank president in the Henderson, Nevada bank robbery, the one pulled off by the Trenchcoat Robbers and the female reporter snapped the picture of the getaway car as she drove past in the opposite direction. I noticed the segment is now on YouTube. Chipper is a sports handicapper and might still live here or visit often, but I haven't seen him in a long time.

Concerning Bob Weeks, I do know that he was given multiple life sentences and was in prison in Nevada because he wrote to my friend for many years, some of which I read. He would ask about each one of us to see what and how we were doing & He always talked about how much he liked the prison he was in and hoped that he was never transfered. He said the best thing about the place was the library, which he said was a real good one, and he would not know what to do with himself if he lost those priveledges. As far as whether he was still alive or not, I do not know because my friend died a few years back and thats the last anyone heard of Bob Weeks.

The one thing that bothered me the most about the guy was that he was so approachable if you needed to talk to someone about personal issues. Everyone felt comfortable with him and he was so easy to like. For the longest time after his arrest, no one believed that he had done these cruel things until someone had read that he had admitted to everything and much, much more. Talking about being totally off-base being able to read someone. There wasn't an iota of anything negative about this guy that any of the many people who knew him ever saw in him. And that's the scary thought about this whole ordeal. He must have felt totally at peace with himself with what he had done. Makes you wonder how many more people you have crossed paths with in your lifetime who were hiding as much if not more.

CrystalDawn: I spent the last couple of days searching the internet for info on Weeks and found a Seial Killers Index with this in it:

WEEKS Robert 1929 USA ... ... ... 3
BB 1968 1981 CA NV
Verdict/Urteil:

An Alabama native, born in 1929, Weeks graduated from Mississippi Southern College in 1952, after working his way through school as a mortician and parachute stuntman. Two years later, he married his first wife, Patricia, in Minneapolis, moving to Las Vegas in 1955. Weeks prospered there, opening the city's first limousine service in 1960, but his pathological jealousy made Patricia a virtual prisoner at home, where she was frequently beaten, denied permission to even go grocery shopping alone. On one occasion, in a jealous rage, Weeks beat her elderly piano teacher. In 1968, Weeks finally agreed to a divorce, Patricia taking the family home and Cadillac in settlement, but she vanished that Aprils her car found abandoned at a local shopping center. Questioned by his daughters, Weeks informed them that their mother had abandoned them. Weeks sold his limo service in 1971 and married Waunice Hinkle, in Las Vegas, the following year. They were divorced in 1974, but Waunice survived the breakup, probably because of Weeks's new infatuation with 41 year-old Cynthia Jabour. They dated for the next six years, while Weeks maintained his life-style through the sale of phony stock -- almost a million dollars worth -- in sundry "paper" corporations. By the fall of 1980, Cynthia was anxious to be rid of Weeks, and she agreed to meet him for a final dinner date, October 5, to break the news that they were finished. Her car was found next day, in a casino parking lot, but nothing more was seen of Cynthia Jabour. Interrogated by police, Weeks proved evasive, first agreeing to a polygraph exam, then fleeing the United States and surfacing in Chile. Weeks returned in 1981, by way of Houston, with a Libyan passport in the name of "Robert Smith." He set up shop in San Diego, launching a construction business, and in 1983 he met Carol Riley on a trip to Colorado, persuading the 43-year-old divorcee to join him in Southern California. Disillusioned with "Smith" over time, Riley was contemplating a break-up when she vanished on April 5, 1986, after a dinner date with Weeks. Her car was found abandoned in a hotel parking lot. Weeks moved to Tucson, as "Charles Stolzenberg," but he had already attracted national attention. Profiled on an episode of "Unsolved Mysteries," aired by NBC television, Weeks was fingered by neighbors in Tucson and arrested on May 26, 1987. Charged with embezzlement in Arizona, he was held in lieu of $3 million bond. In April 1988, Weeks was convicted of murdering Patricia Weeks and Cynthia Jabour, in Las Vegas. Jurors fixed his punishment as life imprisonment without parole.

He might have died in jail. I checked the Nevada inmate locator and no one by that name appears, nor anything close to the other name, Charles Stolzenberg.

Born in 1929, he would be 78 now, so not unlikely he died in jail after being convicted and sentenced in 1988.

Of course, he could be in jail in another state.

Thanks a lot for finding that joemama. A lot more info there than was on the UM broadcast. I do tend to think he must have died as I searched a while back and even had a friend look and we couldn't find anything on him in the prison system in Nevada. I didn't know that he had children.

I can understand why you were taken in though joemama. He looks like a regular guy and he was in essence a conman in addition to a murderer which means he has to be likeable. People don't go into meeting someone wondering if they're a serial killer on the run and no doubt your defenses were down. Its something that could have happened to any of us. Thanks for sharing your story.

A relative of mine is an associate of Stan Michalak, son of Stefan Michalak - the gentleman who ending up getting radition (?) burns from the U.F.O. in Falcon Lake, Manitoba, Canada

I talked to Stan at for about half an hour on the subject and he seemed quite sincere and convincing. I kinda felt bad for him and his family after years of constantly being having to discuss the incident and dealing with hecklers, but he didn't seem to mind.

For me, I don't don't doubt that Mr. Michalak saw and touched some kinda craft and got sprayed by some strange steam. I'm just not so sure the thing came from outer space.

Anyway, take it for what it's worth, I suppose

LOL at the stories involving Matthew McConaughey. He actually used to live next door to 2 girls that my sister was/is really good friends with. This was in the mid-1990's when he wasn't as well known (though this was the period when the cops came to break up a party an supposedly found him high, naked, and playing the bongoes in his house). Well, my sister's friends are really gorgeous girls (one of them met Brian Austin Green while he was in town filming something in the late 1990's and he hit on her. While he was with Tiffani Amber Thiessan, I believe  ), and he saw them sunbathing in the backyard and decided to go over and introduce himself (hoping he could play off of his fame). Their mom answered the door and was like "Matthew McCona-whoo?" And that was that. A cousin of mine worked on the film Sahara as a translator, and she also met him and was able to corroborate his cockiness.

Also, the coroner, Roberto Bayardo, who was interviewed in the Katherine Korzilius case, and his wife are long-time friends of my parents. My mom will probably be seeing them this week, actually.

I met Danny Gordon, of Wytheville, VA UFO fame, in January 2003.
He was (and still is, as of 2007) working at WYVE Radio in Wytheville,
and I enjoyed a brief tour of the radio station. A very nice man! I was in 7th heaven meeting someone who had been on Unsolved Mysteries, but since he'd probably heard enough about UFOs and UM, I just talked about radio with him (I work in radio).

While it doesn't involve meeting anyone, I've visited two places featured
on UM:

-Silver Plume, Colorado (Tom Young/Keith Reinhard story). I visited on
September 7, 2008, which I didn't realize at the time was exactly 21 years after Tom Young had either vanished or been found! Creepy! The town was sleepier, albeit more upscale (um, dare I say, more Yuppie-like, no offense), compared to when it was in the 1990 UM segment. I went to the KP Cafe, and the owner (who had been on the segment) was out, but still owned it. It had turned into a gift shop selling burritos only (that was the upscale part, as in the 1990 segment, it was more of a local hometown cafe).
-The General Wayne Inn. I went there in October 2005, and found it was closed and being painted and worked on by a small crew of men. I asked them if the restaurant would reopen, and they said sometime soon.
I went back in April 2007, and it was functioning as a Jewish Community Center, or something similar.

Well, I talked to one on the phone after he was released from prison. He wanted to do his community service with us. Survey says *AAAAHHHT*

I have talked to Sue Coffman, Linda Sohus' friend who was interviewed on the show, a bit. She told me more about the case and what'll become of Gerhartsreiter soon. I can't say much more than that but can say that his trial is in a few months.
