View Full Version : How Do You Watch Your DVD's?
TV DVD Fan 04-15-2007, 01:38 PM It's getting pretty dead on this board. So here's my effort to revive it: I'm curious how you guys watch your DVD's. I'm curious because I have a bit of a weird way of watching them. For TV Shows, I usually (if the DVD has chapter stops) skip the theme song, watch the first half of the show, then GO back to the theme song, and resume from the half-way point. I also, since my collection is so overwhelmingly big, usually end up starting an episode, but not finishing it in one sitting. Then I usually move on to starting another episode (or finishing one I already started) on another set. I also tend to watch the episodes in order, though I never really started doing that until I started my FLINTSTONES collection (about a year ago this month).

Usually, whenever I get a television DVD for the first time, I watch the episodes in order all the way through (although there have been a couple where I didn't do that), and after I get through watching the season or season(s) front to back, I simply choose a random episode.
phoebe7165 04-15-2007, 05:55 PM For some reason, I have this thing where I can't watch a whole DVD set/season straight through. If I have 2 or 3 shows, I'll watch the 1st disc of one show, put it away, watch a a disc of another show, put that away, then watch a disc of another show, then probably go back to the 1st. Depends how many shows I have.
If there's audio commentary on an episode, I'll watch the episode 1st without the commentary, even if I've seen it before, then watch it again with the commentary.
freshprinceofLA 04-15-2007, 07:16 PM I usually watch the theme song once then when I go to watch another episode I skip the theme song. I never go to the play all feature even if I want to watch the 1st episode I always go to chapter selection no matter what.
I usually watch 1 disc out of a set with the episodes in order, then switch to
a different set because I get burned out if I watch the whole season of a show.
treky 04-18-2007, 04:11 PM I'll watch each episode of a show all the way through, and if any have commentary, I'll watch the ones that do, with that. Then I'll just wach random episodes on the disc, or discs, without the commentary, and sometimes I'll skip the series opening.
Oh, yea, if a disc or discs, has any extras I'll watch them first.
OrCandy 04-21-2007, 12:23 AM I like to watch the seasons in order whenever I can. :)

Hey, like I said, anything to enliven this board!
Ant-Lox 04-29-2007, 12:58 PM When I get a new set, I'll watch it in order over the course of a week. Sometimes, I like to watch 3 part episodes backwards, just to change things up a bit, lol.
With my Frasier sets, I have always skipped watching the last disc until a new set is released. I know some seasons have had cliff hangers, and I don't want to wait 5-6 months for the resolution, so I just don't watch that last disc at all until the next season is released (Which means I would have to wait 5-6 months anyway ). I know, its wacky, but it helps me enjoy the show.lol..

dakert 05-14-2007, 11:20 AM I will watch episodes in order but only 1 episode a week if it is an hour show. Half hour shows more frequently. I have many many dvd sets still in plastic
I just finished Tony Orlando and Dawn/ Captain and Tennille sets and will probably watch them again in the fall/winter time

whenever I buy a new release of one of my favorite shows, I reserve that Saturday to sit in front ofthe TV all day with a delicious snack and watch all 24 eps from start to finish. So I start around 11am and finish around 11pm that night. Will be doing this again in June when the Cosby Show comes out

Can you tell me if Jimmy Walker was one of the Guest stars on Your Tony Orlando and Dawn DVD?
dakert 05-14-2007, 01:18 PM sorry, but Jimmy Walker wasnt a guest star on Tony Orlando and Dawn box set
MileHigh2007 07-12-2007, 03:40 PM I watch the episodes in order but I usually have 2 or 3 dvd sets going at the same time so once I finish one show's disc, I watch another show's disc.
SlayerShel 09-01-2007, 06:42 PM I like to watch entire series...Granted I have spent WAY too much money on TV show DVDs, but I like to watch them from episode 1 all the way to the end, then move on to a different show.
I kind of run in cycles, and it takes a few months sometimes to complete a series...then I can RE-watch a series when it comes back into rotation.
Scoobiedoo30 09-01-2007, 08:30 PM I watch my DVD's one Episode at time at 10:35 pm
OH Nuts! 09-05-2007, 08:46 PM I'm systematic and start with the first DVD first ep and keep going in numeric order. Once in a blue moon, I do make an exception. Like for example, with I Love Lucy. The Lucy pro's were getting ready to discuss Lucy Hires A Maid #58 And I was up to #3. So I skipped to the second season #58 so I could watch the ep and participate in the thread. And if you've ever witnessed MadameX and Irene discussing Lucy, and the amazing level of knowledge both have of the show, you'll know that being in on such a thread was a heady experience for a newbie.
BensonFan 09-05-2007, 11:38 PM I get into patterns where I focus on one show and I just watch DVD after DVD (if there's more than one of that show). Like right now, I am watching tons of Frasier. I am just in a Frasier groove. And I'll usually watch one disc's worth of episodes per night.
Willowey 09-06-2007, 10:01 AM I get into TV show faces, so I usually stick with one show for a couple of weeks and than go to another show. Right now it's The Facts of Life. I don't know how many times I've seen The New Girl in the past week. lol
Retro76 10-22-2007, 03:02 PM I tend to watch my TV show DVDs in a way that I don't get tired of them. On days when I'm sick, I'd watch epsiodes consecutively. Sometimes, I like to pick out a few episodes (sitcoms) or in the case of 2-4 parters, I'd treat it as a "feature-length" movie.
