Go to that store and ask for it. Tell them that you called and you were informed that they had it and you just want to pick up your copy. They have to go in the back and get it. It's the part of good customer service.

Yeah, they did say from looking at the computer that they have it but I will just feel better if it was on the shelf. I think I did do that with What's happening and they went in the back and got it. That sounds like a Friday activity defintely won;t do it today

I saw the Maude DVD set today in Best Buy and they also have it on Amazon for $22.49.

Sony has no control of how many copies are sent. If FYE only had 1 copy, it's because FYE only ordered 1 copy. It's understandable. It isn't a current hit show so it shouldn't have as many copies as Friends or Seinfeld. The demand is simply not there. Many potential fans aren't even aware of the show's existence since it rarely plays in syndication. By and large, Maude won't be as stellar a seller as Lost or Alias (stellar a seller? Try saying that three times fast! :))

The stores know this and are trying to ensure they don't have an excess of DVDs on their hands. If they overstock too many DVDs, some have to be sent back, which incurs more expense on Sony's part to pay for shipping. FYE pays shipping costs for any stock coming in that they order but Sony would pay the shipping costs for any copies that would have to be sent back. It's decidedly in Sony's best interest to make as much of a profit as possible, and sometimes this happens by a store ordering small amounts and selling out than ordering 20 copies and sending back 5.

Still, I do think they should have had more than 1 copy, but around here, FYE is not the default when it comes to DVD releases. They're just too over-priced and their inventory probably doesn't move. A lot of times their "sale" prices are actually more money than Best Buy's non-sale price. Do the math...

I agree and you're probably right. I was just trying to get across that it's not Sony who decides how much to deliver, it's the stores. Still, only one copy? Especially of a first season release? First season releases tend to sell the best out of a whole series, so FYE should've ordered accordingly.

What probably happened is that someone screwed up and rather than admit that, it's easier to say "oh, uh, yeah, we only had one copy and that's been sold." Much easier to lie rather than 'fess up to a mistake, where they risk getting yelled at by the customer. :rolleyes:
