On "Ned & Stacey" Ned is watching "Wings." It's funny of course, because Ned was played by Thomas Haden Church. He played Lowell on "Wings" in seasons one thru six. In fact he left Wings and the very next season started "Ned & Stacey."

On "NewsRadio" Joe is watching "Hogan's Heroes."

ALF also watched "The Dick Van Dyke Show" in an episode.

On "Ellen" she was watching "Melrose Place."

Though not technically a TV show, once on "Wings" Brian was watching The Three Stooges.

Will was watching "What's Happening!!" in the hospital room once, I believe. But there was no sound, so he had to say the lines himself.

On "Roseanne," they make many references to what they are watching.

On Dharma & Greg, Greg and Dharma tries to when back a duck and when Jane and Pete are in the apartment they are watching Seinfeld, and you can here the Seinfeld music. It's also played through out the whole episode.

"Backlash" (Season 2) - Bob is laid up in bed with a bad back (one of his burly patients, trying to give him a friendly pat on the back, hit him a little too hard). He watches this cheesy soap opera, where the characters are going on about amnesia and babies. Corny organ music plays throughout. Bob realizes it's bad, and even turns it off a couple of times. But he just can't resist turning it back on. :lol:

"My Business is Shrinking" (Season 3) - Bob is experiencing a lull in his business. Finding himself with more and more free time, he spends more time at home. He is watching a game show with Howard. The lady contestant says, "The most unusual part of my husband's body is..." Howard is so disgusted he turns the TV off. Bob grabs the remote back and says, "I wanted to hear what she has to say, Howard." He turns the TV back on in time to hear the host say, "Lady, you can't say that on TV!" Bob just says, "Darn it!" :lol:

Both cases, the back of TV is to the camera, so we can only hear what's going on. That's enough to make it funny.

On Seinfeld, there was an episode where Jerry was dating a female cop and he didn't want to admit to her he watched Melrose Place. So she made him take a lie detector test and asked all these questions about Melrose. Finally he cracked and started ranting about the characters, storming out of the room. At the end of the episode, the 4 of them meet at Jerry's and are getting ready to watch Melrose. Jerry says "Oh that Michael, he's just so smug" I remember that being a really funny episode.

Who can forget the classic season 9 opener of Roseanne? Roseanne watches That Girl, I Dream of Jeannie, and Mary Tyler Moore. My favorite was the when Roseanne pictured herself has Mary Richards on Mary Tyler Moore-LOL. She played the part almost as well as Mary herself.

And then, on Seinfeld, Jerry and Elaine were watching Mad About You, and they had the classic crossover, where Kramer was Murphy's secretary. A classic scene!

On an episode of Growing Pains, Ben was watching the show "right after Who's the Boss?", which of course was Growing Pains, and Ben mentions how much he loves "that blonde haired kid", which was of course himself.

On a season 4 episode of Boy Meets World, Cory and the kid he was babysitting were watching TGIF-ABC, and they mention that their favorite show moved from 8:30 to 9:30, which was Boy Meets World (ABC had just recently moved it to 9:30). They then mention what a dumb move that was, and after that episode, ABC moved it back to 8:30.

There's the classic dream sequence on 8 Simple Rules, when Paul was watching Three's Company.

Also on Roseanne, the first episode with Sarah Chalke, the family sits around and watched Bewithced, and they comment on how the 2 Darrins - another classic Roseanne scene.

Something similar happened on a "Who's the Boss" episode I saw years ago. Tony was trying to set up a romantic dinner with Angela (or maybe it was someone else) and he had nice music playing, but something got messed up and the nice music cut off and the theme song from "Taxi" started playing. There was this show called "Mind of the married man" or something. I didn't follow that show, but still, I've caught this one scene TWICE, where some children watch "Ed, Edd and Eddy" in the background. We don't hear any sound from the TV, since the focus really is on the parents talking about something else, but I can still tell just from the pictures what episode of E,E&E it was.

And once, Kenan and Kel once put on the TV, and someone said "Did I do that?" It wasn't Jaleel White's voice, but it still sure was a reference to Steve Urkel.

I decided to change the thread title to include movies. I know movies show a lot of moments where a character or characters are watching television and you find out what it is they are watching:

MY FAMILY/MI FAMILIA : The family is sitting around watching I LOVE LUCY on the television. It happens to be the episode where Lucy pretends to be Ricky's agent in Hollywood and he begins fuming.

PRETTY WOMAN: Julia Robert's character is watching television and it is I LOVE LUCY (You go Lucy!!!! :lol:). It is the famous grape stomping scene.

On Happy Days Howard Cunningham is watching the Milwauke(spelling) Braves and Potsie interrups him and then turns around and says why are all them men running around the base and Howard says you just made me miss Hank Aaron hit a home run.

On Mamma's Family Mamma watches Cagney and Lacey a few times. Iola and Mamma even pretended to be Cagney and Lacey when the police thought Vint was the Curtious crook and stole keys to break into people's homes. They went to the Mall(how they ever get into the mall after it was closed I have3 no idea and snuck into Kwik Keys to get an adress off a person they beilieved to be the crook.

On Roseanne Roseanne is watchin the O.J. Simpson trail and Marsha Clark comes out of the tv set(Jackie that is as Marsha Clark).

Mr. Furley on Three's company comes upstairs to the apartemnt and says to Jack, Janet, and Chrissy, it is just to hard to follow the Brady Bunch when you miss the begininng, you just can't.

In the movie "Knocked Up" Allison is invited over to (forgot his name, main character that gets her preg) house and all of his friend's are sitting around watching the famous lesbian poolside scene in "Wildthings". Allison looks awkwardly around while it shows Denise taking off Neve's shirt. Then one of the boy's say "Just another day in the office" referring to their online nude celebrity website. It's quite funny.

Also in an episode of 90210, Brenda comes and turns on the TV and we hear the opening theme to "The Love Boat". She rolls her eyes or something but is distracted by the phone ringing. It's no wonder that "The Love Boat" came on 90210... both shows were produced by Aaron Spelling!
