I'm with you on this. I think the mods need to lock this thread right now.

Unless you know the story on why certain people use all caps, I suggest you discuss this with a moderator rather than make a thread and point out the rules. Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

I understand you're new Way_Brandy, but this subject is old. Please just contact one of the moderators and they can explain things to you. On this particular board, we do not mind the caps. Perhaps you could answer a question, Way_Brandy that eludes me: WHY do you care? There are so many other things to care about. Countless things. I am very serious here, because I honestly cannot fathom these threads. Have you even bothered to read JO jr's posts and/or threads? There is no person who writes with as much passion and intelligence about FOL as her. She IS the "Facts" board here at Sitcoms Online. She has never written anything that has come across as stupid. Also, Casey Novak is not a drama queen.

This is a board for anyone who wants to share their love of FOL. And you are very welcome to join us here.:) However, you need to show more respect to others.

wow, i think everyone has blown this out of proportion... i agree i am not too fond of having to read Jojr's posts when they are all in caps, but i deal with it and life goes on... i have to deal with an inconsiderate roommate so i can deal with that... everyone should just chilll... let the guy (way_brady) have his say and let it be at that... no need to harp on him for threads that happened months ago... and let the girl just do her thing and if it bothers you, ignore it... we have to deal with people who just annoy the crap out of us (and perhaps even on purpose) all of the time, no need to point out everyone's bad characteristics... lets just all be friends

I have been a fan of this show since 1979... so, back off on the "I'm the greatest fan" stuff. This is not about that.

It's very clear, very understood, very recognized and very accepted that typing in all capital letters is not "good." Here are two sources just in a quick Google search...

Typing in all capital letters usually denotes screaming or yelling, and this should be avoided. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netiquette#Usenet_etiquette) - 5th bullet point

ALL CAPS means shouting (http://www.kassj.com/netiquette/netiquette.html) - Rule #1

This is not any one person's board, which from being a lurker/reader, it can appear to be that. I do consider it rude to post in all-caps. It is simply harder to read.

Using abbreviations such as "LOL" or "BRB" is not a violation of netiquette, it's simply short-hand.

I enjoy reading some of the discussions, but it is often very hard to follow the paragraphs that appear to have no sentences. That is why I do not post on this board as regularly as I used to (back when the show was on N@N, and Hallmark, and around the time of the reunion movie). It's a shame, because I feel like the respect level for members on here dropped quite a bit.

I think FOL85 makes a great point about "rubbing it in someone's face." I read the posts, and try to follow things on here a few times a day. However, when the posts are hard to read... it kills my enjoyment. That's too bad.

And I know I'm not the only one who feels that way around here.

I made the mistake of trying to be neutral about the subject in another thread and lets just say the response I got wasn't pretty. I don't even feel welcome here anymore because of it. :( :( I've decided though that I have just as much right to be at SO as everyone else. I know some people, at least one for sure, are upset with me because of that post. I wish we all could be friends, but I guess that's not possible. :(

I honestly don't see what the problem is with writing in all caps. You know HOW to read, it shouldn't matter whether it's in all capital letters, whether its all in lower case letters, or even if it's wRiTtEn LiKe ThIs...People who know how to read in english should just be able to get past the fact that's it's written a bit differently, and just focus on the questions that are being asked. It's just really stupid getting people hyped up and angry for a silly reason like this...People express themselves different ways on this forum...It's a part of who they are...So just leave them alone and yet again, another famous quote form Jo, "You're born, you move on, you die...That's Life!" :) Baiz!

The operative word here being "permission"...she does have permission and it's no one's business. If they want to know why then I suggest speaking with those who gave her permission to do so.

I wish I could type in all caps...I print in all caps and back when I started here I took flak for typing in all caps in my thread titles. Rather than have petty arguments ensue, I stopped doing it because too many people were implying the rule abt it being "yelling". It wasn't. Merely my way of doing things.

When I inquired abt the all caps posts, I received a PM from a moderator who gave me the reason. Jo Jr. didn't give me a reason directly, but she did state she had permission and advised me where I can find out why.

i mean if this is due to a broken key, or a problem with her keyboard or computer, there are MANY ways of fixing it that I would be happy to suggest if it would help.

I find it odd that people have asked you to do something very simple, and you consistently present yourself as "better" by not being respectful. I agree with RobyRob... it's just going to come up again and again.

Okay...For those of you who've been here since...Forever...Honestly, has it really been that much of an issue that some people don't like when other people respond or post in caps? Because going back in the forum, I have noticed that there were a few disputes about this...I mean...I honestly don't get what the big deal is...If Jo jr said that she has permission to type in CAPS, then LEAVE HER ALONE! Even if some of the people DON'T have permission to type in caps, it doesn't matter...Like Blairs#1Fan said, don't read the posts...It's you that's missing out on some serious FOL stuff...Some people act as if when they read things in caps on the pc, it actually shouts out to them or something...It might look like their shouting out to you, but are they? you'd be pissed off and you'd then leave - it isnt a matter of "being picky" or simply just skipping over a certain person's posts, this is something that is universally understood, and you can't expect someone new here to just understand that one person is special "just because".

Kelly, you typing in ALL CAPS is not helping your friend's case. If TJ gave Jodi a pass, that's one thing. If a trend of typing in all caps starts with other members, you can bet that TJ will rethink his decision.

Not only that, but all caps is simply hard to read to those of us accustomed to reading things written in a proper format. As an "outsider" to this particular board who sometimes lurks, I have skipped Jo, Jr.'s posts for that reason alone. And that's a shame, because I might be missing out on some insightful, creative thoughts that are otherwise well-written.

Obviously, they are not your friends and not worth your trouble. You are welcome anywhere on this board.

I think this whole thing is really crazy and is creating unecessary tension. Does it matter if someone types in all caps? I understand that some people might think that its rude, but if you have that opinion then read to find out what they have to say. Since this is a Facts of Life board I'll use this example let's say Season 4 comes out tomarrow we'd all be excited so we would type in all caps to show our excitement and that would be ok. I'm not saying we should make any exceptions but it really isn't that big of a deal. And one more thing The "moderators" say that it's rude and may turn people away but isn't this whole thread a turn off. People don't want to go to a forum that's full of drama and conflict so in a way this whole "discussion" about caps turning away people really is turning away people. This is a whole lot of fuss about a pointless rule.

We've gone over this many times before. It is not worth the discussion, in my opinion. I'm closing the thread.

I don't recall giving anyone permission to type in all caps. There is a rule against it, but it has been loosely enforced and we've let it slide in the past. In my opinion, it would be better to type in all lowercase instead of all caps. It is easier to read that way.

There is an option in this message board software where we could force people to stop using all caps, but then people would bitch about not being able to use them at all.

3. In addition, please Do NOT correct other users spelling, punctuation, and/or grammar. This isn't English class - as long as the point's in the message, mistakes here and there are ok. We do ask that, if possible, you refrain from typing in all-capital letters - many consider this a form of shouting, which is considered a rude behavior. Moderators have the right to edit posts containing all-capital letters at their discretion.

I'd hate to see anyone leave because they can't type in all caps, but at the same time I don't like seeing a person who is obviously a big fan and knowledgable about the show ignored because of it. There has to be some compromise.
