I don't. $20 for an hour and a half movie when I can get 24 eps of my favorite shows for $30-40? Hours more entertainment of stuff I LOVE; guaranteed? I buy MAYBE two movies a year.

View Full Version : Do you even buy "movies" anymore? BuddyHinton 03-08-2007, 11:36 AM I don't. $20 for an hour and a half movie when I can get 24 eps of my favorite shows for $30-40? Hours more entertainment of stuff I LOVE; guaranteed? I buy MAYBE two movies a year. Chocolate Moose 03-08-2007, 12:04 PM I do, if I’ve rented it and absolutelylove it….oh, and if I can get it for 75 cents on ebgay! AB 03-08-2007, 04:40 PM I do, some movies I want to keep and rewatch and I like some of the extras you get with them. BuddyHinton 03-08-2007, 05:08 PM Maybe I shouldn't have been so extreme, what I meant was it's such a low priority vs TV Boxsets it isn't funny. Lets See: The Rockford Files Season 3, $27, 22 hours+ of CLASSIC Jim Garner... or $19.99 for 95 minutes for the Pick of Destiny..? Hmm... Mr. Television 03-08-2007, 05:23 PM I buy movies all the time. I find quite a few of them for $10 or less. AB 03-08-2007, 05:23 PM Yes I see what you mean. Value wise you get more for your money with the box-set, right? Superstar 03-08-2007, 05:39 PM I do. I haven't bought many movies lately because there hasn't been many that I've been interested in. But if a movie I liked/wanted to see comes out, I'll buy it. BuddyHinton 03-08-2007, 05:59 PM Yes I see what you mean. Value wise you get more for your money with the box-set, right? Uh......YAAAA!! But it's beyond that, it's completely a lopsided benefit for the boxset. Eric Paddon 03-08-2007, 06:38 PM Not as much as I used to because TV on DVD nowadays rates a higher priority but I still keep my eyes open. Most of my favorite films have DVD releases now, but I still want to see certain titles I still have the Laser Disc of finally get out (Samson And Delilah, 1936 Show Boat etc.) mlingerfelt 03-08-2007, 10:39 PM I have all my favorite movies TV shows are my priority. BuddyHinton 03-09-2007, 02:36 AM I have all my favorite movies TV shows are my priority. ditto. TJL 03-09-2007, 06:51 AM Over the past few years I have probably bought more TV DVDs than movie DVDs. I guess some TV shows have more "rewatchability" than movies. storrs19 03-09-2007, 09:14 AM I do, but only classics (Bogart, Cagney, Jimmy Stewart, etc.) As with my television I only like the good movies most of which are black and white. Warner Brothers has done a great job in creating "Warner Night At The Movies" which recreates a night at the movie theater in showing a short, a cartoon, a newsreel, and a trailer along with the movie. Other studios need to take note of this and start doing so. Also the multi-disc sets of movies like "The Maltese Falcon", "Casablanca" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy" are packed with nice extras. Robert 13 03-09-2007, 11:19 AM I don't buy many movies anymore unless it's something from that past that gets released for the first time. Other than that, I do agree it is worth it to get a dvd set since there is more for you to watch. But, then again, I enjoy watching 30-minute shows. It might just be a personal preference. :) Ant-Lox 03-09-2007, 03:10 PM I haven't bought a movie in a while. I either record them off cable or rent them. Corolla 03-09-2007, 03:13 PM I don't buy movies very much either. canuckkidd 03-10-2007, 02:12 PM I only buy movies that I know that I will re-watch over and over again. Much of the movies I have bought lately have been 80's movies that I grew up watching and wanted to watch again because I had not seen the movie in a long time. All these movies have been under $15, instead of just renting them, I would rather just pay the extra few dollars to own them. The last movie I paid full price for over $20 was Dawn of the Dead in 2004. I saw this movie in the theaters and promised myself I would buy it the first day it came out on DVD. freshprinceofLA 03-10-2007, 05:19 PM I only buy movies if I find them cheap or if I really like the movie. TVQuack 03-11-2007, 11:59 PM Nowadays I will only buy movies that I don't plan on seeing an HD/BluRay version coming out....I still by TV shows on dvd though....if the rest of Cheers would just be released...... Dude111 05-02-2026, 12:41 PM I buy VHS tapes from either Salvation army or Ebay/Amazon... If I had a VIDEODISC player,I would buy those also!! I have 1 CED (Poltergiest (1982)) but sadly I do not have a player.... tlc38tlc38 05-06-2026, 07:08 PM At this point I already own all the films I want on VHS, DVD, or Blu-ray. There are a few TV shows I’d still like to buy that have been released and some that I’d definitely buy if they are ever released. Mace Dolex 06-09-2026, 12:57 AM I already have the movies that I like and know will watch often but when it comes to newer movies absolutely not unless it's an umpteenth anniversary collector edition but the last Bluray I bought was The Flash movie and that was in 2023. |
