View Full Version : Worst movie musical??
catlover79 03-03-2007, 03:59 PM My vote goes to Grease 2. Yes, there were a few enjoyable songs and Maxwell Caulfield was HOT, but the script was hokey and the direction was stilted.
Even though I loved the music, and Olivia Newton-John's peasant chic outfits, Xanadu was so corny!!
I don't really understand why Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band got all the slamming over the years. Sure, it wasn't a great movie or even a good one, but I did have fun watching it. Where else can you see Barry Gibb punch out Alice Cooper, or a fight to the death between Peter Frampton and Steven Tyler?? That said, watching Peter Frampton try to cry (with obviously fake tears sprayed on his face) was PAINFUL.
I didn't like that musical Madonna was in, I think it was about a South American woman. I'm going blank on the name of it.

Evita?
Ireneparalegal 03-03-2007, 05:43 PM I hate GREASE 2...that movie is a slap in the face to GREASE. I remember when they were in pre-production of making Grease 2, Andy Gibb's name came up as playing Cauffield's role. God, there are some movies that shouldn't be made.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band featuring the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton and of all people George Burns. :puke: horrible movie.

I remember reading that, the Grease sequel would be called Summer School, with Andy Gibb in the lead. I don't know why it wasn't made, but by '82 Andy Gibb's days were full, hosting Solid Gold while at the same time starring in Pirates of Penzance on Broadway. I think movie musicals would've been a good fit for Andy.
Evita?
Yeah, that sounds right, I hate it when I go blank on something. It probably
would have popped into my head at some odd time.
comedyfreak 03-03-2007, 07:58 PM Little Shop Of Horrors, never could sit through it hahaha.
Tommy. Urgh, I hated every second of that movie. There was nothing redeeming about that movie at all. It's a musical about a blind/deaf kid who goes on to play really good pinball. Supposedly the stage play is much better than the movie, but that isn't saying much.
The Wiz and Grease 2 aren't high on my list of favorites either.
CheersChild4life 03-04-2007, 06:10 PM Oh my gosh! Tommy and Little Shop of Horrors are amazing! Little Shop of Horrors is my all time favorite and Tommy is weird as hell but has some amazing music. I like Evita too. But to each their own I suppose.
But I really dislike Paint your wagon. 4 hours of Clint Eastwood trying to sing. Absolutely Awful.
Corolla 03-04-2007, 06:55 PM I don't know if this really counts or not, but I didn't like the movie last year by Disney, High School Musical.
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2007, 07:15 PM God, I don't get the hoopla over ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW. I hate it.
Little Shop of Horrors is another on my hate list.

I really like Little Shop of Horrors and I love the Broadway soundtrack. That's a weird one, but it's a lot of fun. I just hated the movie of Tommy so much - I wasn't a fair judge on the music.

You know, there's 2 types of people in this world: those that get Rocky Horror and those that don't. I love it - but it took awhile. It scared the heck out of me when I first saw it  But now I love listening to the soundtrack of that show. Shock Treatment too. That's an even weirder show but another great soundtrack.
Ireneparalegal 03-04-2007, 07:40 PM It's not that I don't get it, it's that I HATED IT. I was bored out of my mind and it couldn't keep my attention.
Brian Damage 03-04-2007, 07:48 PM You are all forgetting the UTTER WORST...
Newsies (A musical about Paper Boys! )

Bored? Wow, I've heard all sorts of things about that movie, I've never heard anyone say they were bored! Irritated, sure. Disgusted, sure. Offended, definately. Annoyed, absolutely. I've never heard bored

Definately far from a great movie, but I can't hate anything that Christian Bale's in. :eyes: :biglove:
The Flying Dutchmans 03-06-2007, 12:29 AM The 1st time I ever saw Rocky Horror picture show, 2 actors had been hired by the theatre to stand in front of the screen yelling obcenties at the characters in the movie, I thought it was weird but I liked it, does anyone remember seeing it that way?

Oh definately. Normally there are actors in front of a screen, and the audience yells. I saw it that way in Germany and Lansing, Michigan  The Rocky Horror weirdos are everywhere!

Sounds exciting, lol.

though I've never seen Newsies, going to have to echo that since Christain Bale's in it, it's a step up from Grease 2!
Another one on my list I'm not a fan of is going to be Phantom...I know this is going to be unpopular and I'll get booed, but the movie just doesn't do the show justice!
Cry Baby I didn't enjoy much either (sorry)

You know I'm surprised to hear you say that. No movie ever really does the show justice, but I thought Phantom was a real exception. I'd had the cast album for years and when I finally saw the stage show I was really disappointed. I expected a chandelier CRASH, I expected a cave UNDERGROUND, I expected a lot more than they could do on the stage. I thought the movie really had the advantage. They could do so much more, I thought they did a great job illustrating the show.
