I took four years of honor's French in high school...

I minored in it in college for a semester, too, but the class was so easy (and they didn't think i should skip ahead, despite refusing to give me a placement test), so I dropped it.

Spanish for six years. Me encanta esta idioma. :) And then I've been taking German for three years now. I really, really love it and I'm getting really good at it but it's hard to use outside of class since I can't really practice it on anyone. So sad. Which is why I'm moving to Germany in a few years. I really want to become fluent but it's so hard unless you are immersed in it. That's why Spanish was so easy to become fluent in, I had so many places where I could practice it.

We didn't have 'Honors' French, we just had 'regular' French, so I took 4 years of that. For some reason, I really picked up on it and that was a class I did really well in. Can't say the same about Algebra, but that's another topic.

Guten Tag. Wie gehst dir? Was hast du gemacht gestern?

I've been taking German for about 2 years now. I LOVE it. Although I'm not sure if the above is grammatically correct. I know that normally one uses the "simple past" form when writing, but I felt the spoken form would be more appropriate in this case. LOL :)

Sí, es una lengua encantadora. Viene ciertamente en práctico, especialmente cuando estoy en el trabajo y las otras mujeres piensan que porque soy haired rubio y el azul eyed me no tiene ninguna idea qué están diciendo!

Yes, it is an enchanting language. It certainly comes in handy, especially when I am at work and the other women think that because I am blonde haired and blue eyed I have no idea what they are saying!

Yo tambien!!! Too funny! I had 4 years of Spanish, 3 of French and 1 of German in high school and was a foreign language student assistant for 3 years. Thank God, LOVE foreign language classes, or else I never would have gotten into college cuz I didn't do so well in the rest of my classes, lol. I also had several Spanish classes in college and am now certified to teach it in grades K-8.

Vielen dank.

None. It wasn't required at my High School so I didn't take any!

I took 2 years of Spanish in high school. Now I could barely give you 5 words in Spanish. I realized if you want to speak it you really have to like it and practice it a lot. I didn't continue at all after high school.

I taught middle school Spanish for fourteen years, between 1989 and 2003. A few years ago, when we changed to a 7/8 grade Jr. High and the ninth graders and many of the English teachers went to the high school, there were a bunch of English openings at my school, and since I'm credentialed in that as well, I switched to English. I now teach 8th grade English and ESL--beginning and intermediate. In retrospect, I'm glad I made the switch when I had the chance. I think change is good sometimes.

I've been taking Spanish since 7th grade and I'm in 12 now...and you know what? I still suck. They need to teach the languages at an earlier age if they want it to stick in people's heads because most people just forget it once they get out of highschool.

I took 3 years of spanish in high school, skipped a year, and I'm in my second semester of Spanish in college. Skipping that year was a mistake because when I started college I didnt remember anything.

They should learn earlier, like starting around 3rd grade, when the mind is still fresh and can take in information it can remember. I started learning English at 7 and now you wouldn't even know since I've gotten rid of my accent. But they say after puberty, that part of the mind closes up so it's so much more difficult to learn a language and actually retain it to the point where it's like second nature. If you also start learning a language after puberty, you'll also have an accent forever. Hence why my parents have one and me and my brother don't.

I took Spanish from middle school all the way through HS, and even took AP Spanish Lit my senior year. I was sort of ahead of all the Spanish classes at my college, so I took a semester of Italian instead. Didn't like that so much, but I really do love Spanish. It's kind of ironic, b/c the only reason I took it was that the Spanish teacher said it was the easiest foriegn language for English speakers to learn, lol. I'm hardly fluent, but I think I can understand it pretty well.

It wasn't required at my high school either, I still took 2 languages there :D I don't think it's required at many high schools, just recommended.

4 years of Spanish, 8th-11th. Didn't take it my senior year because it was going to be one of those classes where the teacher barely spoke any English and I didn't care to learn that much. I had the 2 years I needed to get into college.

I took a semester of French in 7th. I hate French.

I learned some Japanese in 6th grade. I remember like, 2 words. lol

I decided to try to learn some German on my own, basically because of Hogan's Heroes. Weird reasoning. But dang, for being similar to English, I find it really, really hard.

I should be learning Bosnian, seeing as we have a ton of Bosnian students at my school. But they all speak pretty perfect English. Much better than the Spanish speaking students.

The words are pretty similiar, since half our words come from German, but the grammar is just hell. We also took the French approach and decided to pronounce words any which way we wanted to, instead of being phonetic like German, which is another reason why it sounds so much more different.

I see. Not that it matters since it's just a hobby and I don't plan any travel; I just thought it'd be interesting.

English is just a mess and in watching a reading teacher "try" to teach it to first graders everyday, I'm finally seeing that.
