View Full Version : Do You Actually Care about the Anna Nicole situation
Chelsea 02-23-2007, 03:10 PM Personally, I'd be perfectly happy to never hear about it again, and don't know why the news networks seem so giddy to force it down my throat. But, I recognize there's probably an audience for this...stuff.
Thoughts?
Not especially. But it's kind of amusing to watch the circus go round and round... ;)
Yooch 02-23-2007, 03:15 PM I think the air time it's receiving is excessive, but I'm not contemptuous of Anna Nichole Smith or the situation. I feel sad when I see anything about this, or any other tragedy. That's why I watch little or anything about it.
Chocoholic 02-23-2007, 03:26 PM I think all the attention this story is getting is atrocious. Celebrity news like this should not be considered headline news.
Janice 02-23-2007, 03:26 PM I'm interested. It's an interesting story, and an extremely sad one at that. Here you have a larger-than-life entertainment personality, Anna Nicole, whose young son died in her hospital room, only days after she gives birth. That alone is bizarre. In the months leading up to her young death just five months later, there's been paternity issues, an inquiry into Daniel's death, a struggle in the Bahamas over her home.
There's the 'Who's Your Daddy?' factor. The ongoing fight for her late zillionaire husband's estate. The battle of where Anna should be buried. If anyone could watch that hearing and not feel even a little sad, it's time to do a gut check for compassion.
Two guys, Stern and Birkhead, and her mother, at odds. Who's the villain ? Is there a villain? This story has it all. Sex, mystery, money, drugs, court battles, tragedy, custody issues, fame, family estrangments, the deaths of a young mother and her son, and an infant girl who has no mother.
What's not to find interesting is the bigger question, to me anyway. Can anyone name a story, involving a celebrity, that's had this much drama...this many twists and turns? This one is right up there on the celebrity big story list.
Dutabi84 02-23-2007, 03:33 PM Not remotely. Glad I'm not the only one.
Brent88 02-23-2007, 03:34 PM I was obsessed with the hearing this week. I'm sad.
Brad Russ 02-23-2007, 03:59 PM Not really. Anna Nicole couldn't get away from this circus when she was alive, and now it's 100 times worst now that she's dead. I may not have liked her that much, but she deserves to rest in peace without all this bull****. I wish it would all go away, and they'd finally get back to real news. The people who apparantely loved her, seem to be milking her for all she's worth, and it just depresses the hell out of me. These idiots don't deserve the publicity as far as I'm concerned. GET BACK TO REAL NEWS, AND LET THIS LADY REST IN PEACE!!!
Ireneparalegal 02-23-2007, 04:11 PM I'm interested. It's an interesting story, and an extremely sad one at that. I so agree with you Janice. I guess because we can identify with certain aspects of this case.
Not only that, this is a lesson to be learned by EVERYONE. Make your wishes known to those that matter. Write things down, not once, not twice, but three times, with a witness, preferably a lawyer. I don't know abt other states, but you can write things down on paper, with at least two witnesses and make simple requests. Have one copy in a file box and have someone else hold a copy for you. Get it notarized. Always make a will and update it as things change in your life (death, birth, etc.) A lot of this could have been avoided had Anna up-dated her will and included her wishes as to where she would have liked to have been buried. As you can see, different things occurred in FIVE MONTHS and forever changed this woman's wishes as she wanted. Unfortunately, she was grieving the loss of her son, she was a mess, she was dealing with a newborn, dealing with a paternity suit, dealing with a lawsuit against Trimspa and herself...then she dies.
Then, you have this man who is married to a Hollywood icon (Zsa Zsa) who herself is sort of a Anna Nicole of her day (married nine times, famous for being Zsa Zsa, etc.) whose husband claims to have been cheating on her with Anna Nicole. Who the hell saw that sh*t coming?
I agree that there was no need for cameras in the hearing that occurred for the past week...it could have been taken care of if the attorneys simply filed briefs and the judge could have read pertinent information and based his opinion on those. This circus hearing (as much as it was fascinating to watch) was not necessary.
moeee 02-23-2007, 04:13 PM i dont care at all.
Its a sad situation that has turned into a freak side show. They should ease
up on the coverage of it, maybe do a twice a week recap of the ongoing
story.
Corolla 02-23-2007, 04:15 PM It doesn't really concern me either. I don't mind hearing about it, but I missed Family Feud yesterday on NBC because right when it started they just went right off and BREAKING NEWS popped up and they just sat there waiting for the judge's decision. =/ There always seems to be breaking news on NBC when Family Feud is on, it happened before with the plane crash in New York last year sometime.
I'm curious as to the father of her baby that's it.
dawsongirl 02-23-2007, 04:27 PM No, but I wanna hear everything anyway. I read celeb gossip for no good reason, just like others.
friendsfan77 02-23-2007, 04:28 PM I was never a big fan of Anna Nicole, but it's been ridiculous how this has been handled by the people involved, even down to the judge. It's been like a circus. It's about time she is buried so she can finally rest in peace.
Already Gone 02-23-2007, 05:20 PM No, I could care less.
catlover79 02-23-2007, 05:39 PM I have a soft spot for babies, so I am geniunely concerned for this little girl. I honestly hope she will be placed with her rightful father and will find the care, peace and happiness that eluded her mom.
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 02-23-2007, 06:36 PM I care a great deal. I want to know what's going to happen to that poor baby. :(
coffield3 02-23-2007, 06:39 PM I care you know its sad when anybody dies,i liked anna nicole she was sweet i dont think she ever got over losing her son daniel.I think that tv are butchering everything.just want it all to be sorted let her and daniel rest in peace, danilynn will b looked after no matter what.
Nighthawk76 02-23-2007, 06:40 PM No, I really don't care. I am sorry that Anna Nicole passed on and I'm concerned for the future of her baby, but the whole media hype...I don't much care.
GoldenGirlsFan92 02-23-2007, 07:55 PM Yes, I do care, but I just hope everthing clears up soon(Doubt that will happen).
cablejockey 02-23-2007, 08:40 PM I think all the attention this story is getting is atrocious. Celebrity news like this should not be considered headline news.
I absofreakinlutely agree! This is fluff and filler at best, not real news of any importance. Also could we add Brittany S. to this list too?
Penny Lane 02-24-2007, 11:09 AM No, I don't care. This case gives Circuses a bad name.
Brian Damage 02-24-2007, 11:12 AM It has got me interested. A screen writer couldn't make half this stuff up.

Haha!
Mr. Cranky 02-24-2007, 06:24 PM Two deaths, the surrounding mystery and court battles. You bet I'm interested.
rusyd 02-24-2007, 06:27 PM I think it has gotten way too much coverage.
KissMyGrits 02-24-2007, 06:42 PM I really could care less. I am just glad it is over. Now life here in Broward County can get back to normal.
Not sure if anyone posted this, but supposedly the judge in the case has been offered a tv deal with CBS....

There had been talks PRIOR to this hearing that he would possibly get his own tv show.
KissMyGrits 02-24-2007, 11:08 PM Definitely. I've had dealings with him before. He is a long winded judge that thinks he is all that!!

Tweety 02-25-2007, 12:13 AM Don't care about it in the least.
I'm really not into "celebrities" at all. There are a few TV Shows that I like, but I coudn't care less about any celebrity's personal life.
To me, A.N.Smith was an absolute joke, and the little bit I've heard about everything that's happened is a pefect ending for her life. It couldn't have been anything else.
What was her talent? (I mean, besides those two obvous ones) I mean, spare me the comparisons to Marilyn Monroe, a true beauty (with real talent).
I used to like watching shows like "Hannity & Colmes", but now Smith is their top story every day... I haven't watched any news shows since about the day after Smith died... but that's OK, getting a lot of reading done! This kind of crap used to be mostly confined to Greta's show, but now H & C want to get in on the celebrity crap too...oh well...
As far as all of these people feeling sorry over the fact that Smith's daughter is going to have to grow up without her mother, I say, big deal, get over it... Smith's son (Daniel?) grew up with her as his mother...how'd THAT work out?
I don't know why Smith was in Florida while her daughter was in Bermuda... and I don't care... but how good a mother could this lady have been? What was the kid, 5 months old? How much time did she spend with her daughter during those five months? Could she have picked her out of a lineup? I doubt it.
The most important things in her life should have been her kids.
Sorry, but A.N. Smith was a total joke. What was the appeal? Sometimes she looked nice, but more and more she looked like total crap. Fox news kept running the same montage of video clips over and over and over and over again...sometimes she looked great, others she looked like she was strung out on crack...which she probably was.
Ireneparalegal 02-25-2007, 12:15 AM more like mushroom high...seemed to be her choice.

Me too....I need help. LOL
James 02-25-2007, 01:34 AM Michelle, what is it with you people in Broward County? First the 2000 election and now this...:joke:
I thought it was Palm Beach County, assuming we're talking about the butterfly ballot/hanging chad controversy.
catlover79 02-25-2007, 01:37 AM I thought it was Palm Beach County, assuming we're talking about the butterfly ballot/hanging chad controversy.
During the whole mess, Jay Leno said something about "the chads of Broward County...sounds like an Oprah book of the month."
James 02-25-2007, 01:37 AM Allow me to weigh in on the subject matter. I, like most of you (so far), voted no. I wonder how this media hype compares to that of JFK's assassination more than 40 years ago. I do not recall Reagan's death nearly three years ago getting near the coverage this Anna Nicole circus is getting.

What about Gerald Ford? That was less than two months ago...and barely anything!! Of course I was sick in bed for 3 days when Mr. Ford passed on and wasn't paying attention to the news then. Good point though.

If real talent includes ****ing every man under the sun and popping pills, then you are right, Marilyn Monroe was a REAL talent.
What an idiotic thing to say that Anna Nicole died deservingly. She had problems, no doubt, but just like Marilyn died way too young and basically alone.
LucyCompanyPhan 02-25-2007, 02:52 PM I care. Most of the time, the news focuses on one event anyway, so why not Anna Nicole? It's so tragic.
Janice 02-25-2007, 03:04 PM What an idiotic thing to say that Anna Nicole died deservingly. She had problems, no doubt, but just like Marilyn died way too young and basically alone.
No kidding. I've heard of kicking someone when they're down, but kicking them when they're dead....you got to be real special to do that, and I'm not talking about the good kind of special.
Regarding taking a trip if you have kids, I don't see the big deal. My nephew and his wife are going to Aruba next month to celebrate their 3-year wedding anniversary. They have two daughters, ages 2 years and 4 months, who will stay with their grandparents.
Anna Nicole had a substance abuse problem, and she paid the ultimate price. I've lost two sisters the same way. I never judge people in that regard.

My wife and I travel a lot. We have two girls ages 8 and 4. It doesn't make us bad parents, nor does it mean we abandon them. We are both great parents.
Daniel did OD, but kids od all the time and have the very best of parents. One thing was for sure, Anna Nicole ADORED her son.
Janice 02-25-2007, 03:17 PM Daniel did OD, but kids od all the time and have the very best of parents. One thing was for sure, Anna Nicole ADORED her son.
I had PERFECT parents who lost two daughters that way.

For a second, I thought you were talking about Anna there...
When did I say that Anna Nicole died deservingly?
It so happens that Monroe could actually sing. And, she could even dance! That's two more things than Anna could do...
But again, when did I say that Anna Nicole died dersrvingly? Way to put words in my mouth, good job!

Well, we know the legacy of many of the movies that Marilyn made...let's see how Anna's movies hold up over the next 50 years or so... then we'll know...
What was Anna's best movie?

Your comments. Your compassion is underwhelming.

It is wrong to trash any dead celebrity. I was trying to make a point. A point of which you missed royally.

MARILYN ****ing every man under the sun?? Have you SEEN the paternity test line for Anna's daughter lately?
retrochick9 02-25-2007, 03:32 PM I feel bad for the baby. It is overexposed, but hard not to be interested in it. The story is so unreal that it sounds like a soap opera but it's real, lol.
Janice 02-25-2007, 03:35 PM Craig Ferguson. Lengthy but worth it, I think.

Tweety 02-25-2007, 03:40 PM It is wrong to trash any dead celebrity. I was trying to make a point. A point of which you missed royally.
You made both of your points... (1) You think Marilyn Monroe slept with every guy under the sun and (2) She had no talent, other than doing just that.
And, I never accused EITHER of these two women of being an angel. Again, putting words in my mouth
Brian Damage 02-25-2007, 03:41 PM You made both of your points... (1) You think Marilyn Monroe slept with every guy under the sun and (2) She had no talent, other than doing just that.

Brian, you said it best. I couldn't help but think that when I read that post. I mean, ok, Marilyn made memorable movies, but let's face it, she was cast because of how she looked, she wasn't the best actress in the world during her time...she also had a cascade of men and couldn't live in the real world, she had her problems and popped pills. BTW, isn't that how she died? drug overdose. Yep she did. Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jean Baker. She had her name changed. Same thing like Anna. Marilyn was an orphan in Hollywood. Anna left home at 17 and never made amends with her family. Anna never pretended to be an actress, she WANTED to be an actress.
Thanx Brian for stating it best abt the comparison between the two.
Anna didn't deserve to die. IMO the only people who deserve to die are those who kill children and murderers. Anna DESERVED TO GET HELP AND NOT HAVE ENABLERS IN HER LIFE.

Well said, I just don't get where Tweety is coming from. Anna had a lot of problems, most of which she put on herself. However, her death wasn't fitting or anything like that, it was tragic.
Ireneparalegal 02-25-2007, 07:02 PM Well said, I just don't get where Tweety is coming from. Anna had a lot of problems, most of which she put on herself. However, her death wasn't fitting or anything like that, it was tragic.

Mr. Cranky 02-25-2007, 07:33 PM Takes a real creep with a heart of stone to rag on a dead woman who's not even buried yet. Not being interested in the story is one thing. When the only interest is ridiculing the person, quite another. Dead troubled woman, dead son, easy targets for some.

Oh please, spare me....She was an easy target even when she was alive, it has nothing to do with her being alive or not.
Hollywood celebrities are MADE to be ridiculed. Have you checked out the media's treatment of Britney Spears lately? Ever wonder how Jay Leno makes his living? And of course, there are comments about Marilyn Monroe ****ing every guy on earth, but I guess she's been dead long enough...
Mr. Cranky 02-25-2007, 08:15 PM Oh please, spare me....She was an easy target even when she was alive, it has nothing to do with her being alive or not.
To many it has plenty to do with the fact that she's dead now. Obviously not to you. Not my idea of fun but whatever floats your boat big guy. Quite the gentleman. And Damage made the remark about Monroe to point out your hypocrisy but you know that.
Tweety 02-25-2007, 09:31 PM To many it has plenty to do with the fact that she's dead now. Obviously not to you. Not my idea of fun but whatever floats your boat big guy. Quite the gentleman. And Damage made the remark about Monroe to point out your hypocrisy but you know that.
There's no hypocrisy here at all.
I started out in this forum by saying that I thought that Anna was a joke, and that I didn't care about this whole situation. Then I asked what her talent was, because I couldn't figure it out. Haven't received any answers on that yet.
I also said that it was a joke to compare her to Monroe, because Monroe actually possessed some talent, whereas Anna did not. If you want to debate that point, I'll be glad to do so.
Next thing I know I'm being accused of saying she deserved to die, and that Marilyn's "talent" consisted of ****ing every man under the sun and popping pills.
We are, of course, all entitled to our opinions as to what kind of parent she was. I'm not sure too many people would CHOOSE to have her as their mother, if they could have a choice, but I concede that I could be wrong about that.
Then Brian criticized me for comparing Anna to Marilyn, who was no angel herself... but I'm not the one making these comparisons...I've said the exact opposite...that there IS NO comparison between the two, in terms of their achievements in show biz. As for (Monroe) not being an angel herself, I stated in my first post that "... I coudn't care less about any celebrity's personal life. " That includes Anna, and that includes Monroe...
Then I was accused of saying that Anna's death was "fitting", when I never said any such thing... the media circus surrounding her death IS fitting, however. Her life was a circus, why end it now?
So, sorry, but my position has been consistent all along... I said Anna was a joke while she was 'starring' in her 'reality' show, and I still think so.
btw - Paris Hilton is a joke...there, I said it...now, if she dies, you can't accuse me of coming out of the woodwork and ridiculing her.. I'm doing it while she's still around...
Oh, and another btw - I think I may have posted some critical comments about Saddam Hussein after he was executed... I hope I didn't upset you too much... we know how terrible it is to say anything negative about the deceased.
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 02-25-2007, 09:43 PM I had PERFECT parents who lost two daughters that way.
I'm so sorry Janice, but it's very true. You can have perfect parents and kids OD. Most times it's a chemical imbalance, untreated it can't be helped. :(
Tweety, all I can say is shame. :( That's all I'm going to say to you in this matter. Be ashamed.
Mr. Cranky 02-25-2007, 10:13 PM There's no hypocrisy here at all.

Ever hear the saying, stop digging when you're in a hole. This is a simple matter of different philosophies. It has nothing to do with who has more talent or anything along those lines so you can stop spinning that angle. It's a diversionary tactic and I'm not biting. I happen to think that it's real bad form, filthy crude actually, to slam a dead person and you said plenty. Yeah, she was a joke, but now she's a dead joke so how about showing a bit of respect but I don't see that happening anytime soon with your way of thinking. That's clear. As for the comparison of Anna and Saddam, why am I not surprised. It's also a strawman argument and I don't entertain those. Red herrings aren't my bag. Nice try though.
Janice 02-25-2007, 10:45 PM I'm so sorry Janice, but it's very true. You can have perfect parents and kids OD. Most times it's a chemical imbalance, untreated it can't be helped. :(
Thanks Kelly. It is a disease, no doubt about that. The devastation and heartbreak it leaves in its wake is immeasurable.
Tweety 02-25-2007, 10:48 PM ... Yeah, she was a joke, but now she's a dead joke so how about showing a bit of respect...
"She's a dead joke", eh?
It's nice that we agree on that, even though it was rather bad form on your part to refer to her as a "dead joke"? I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone referred to with those words...
But, as someone once said, to each his own.

No cigar Tweety. It was a play on your disgusting words and you know that. I've made my feelings clear on trashing the dead. Don't assign your words on me. I see you're pulling out every underhanded debating tactic from the bottom of the deck. You're fooling nobody. The whiff of desperation. I can almost smell it through my computer screen. Stop digging when you're in a hole. It's too late.
Ireneparalegal 02-25-2007, 11:20 PM If those who don't care on the situation of Anna feel that way, so be it. I won't take it personal. That is your opinion, your feelings and I have no qualms abt that.
Those of you can hate, dislike or simply not care abt someone who is "famous" that is your prerogative. Again, I don't take it personal.
But I don't like hearing/reading that she was a bad parent for reasons such as traveling, having a child that died of a drug overdose, etc. that is crossing the line. I am a parent and the parent of two children who are adults. One who is five.
Drug abuse is no joke. It is a disease. Along with alcoholism. I don't take lightly the fact that anyone famous or not has a disease such as the two I mentioned. Anna showed more love to her son than a lot of people in this country. She adored him. She was always there for him. She wasn't the perfect parent, she had her issues. She deserved help, support and understanding. She is gone now and hopefully resting in peace with her beloved son. You say you didn't like her and don't care abt the news attention she is getting? Ok, cool, no problem, but never knock down a person who was so sick themselves they couldn't get that help and ended up dead. I have sympathy for those with substance abuse problems. Yes, even someone like Britney.

Tweety 02-26-2007, 08:08 AM ...Don't assign your words on me...
You tell me not to "assign my words on" you? I'm the one who's been accused here of saying that Anna deserved to die...
Tweety 02-26-2007, 08:26 AM Why are people even fighting about this?
Well, it's kind of a long story....It all started when I expressed my opinion about Anna Nicole Smith... the rest is history...
And yeah, it is silly.
KissMyGrits 02-26-2007, 09:31 AM I don't think Tweety ever said that she "deserved" to die. Quite the opposite. He said that it is a fitting way for the media to act to her death, considering everything she has been thru. Her life was so tramatic and filled with the kind of stuff that you only hear about in the tabloids. Why is he the bad guy for stating his opinions?
Alcolholism is an addiction. My mom is an alcoholic and had been ever since I can remember. She has been in and out of various treatment centers for years. As soon as she gets out do you know what she does? She goes to the nearest bar for a drink! It very well could be an illness, but it can be treated!! I was tired of the calls at 4 a.m. telling me what a no good daughter I am.
I have sympathy for Anna Nicole. She lived a sad life and for whatever reason seemed to need the drugs and alcohol to dull the pain. That just goes to show you that living a life of luxury can't cure what lies deep inside of you. All the pain we go thru as kids effects us as adults.
May she find the peace in death that seemed to elude her in life.

Gotta agree with you here. A little bit of over reaction on both sides it seems.
Mr. Cranky 02-26-2007, 11:34 AM You tell me not to "assign my words on" you? I'm the one who's been accused here of saying that Anna deserved to die...
Not by me. My only issue is your disgusting remarks towards a dead woman.
Well, it's kind of a long story....It all started when I expressed my opinion about Anna Nicole Smith... the rest is history...
I don't have to tell you that you have every right to express your opinion. Same goes for others giving their thoughts on your opinion. That's the way these message board things work.

Calling her a complete joke over and over, talentless, lousy mother, probably strung out on crack, etc. His opinion and that's great. My opinion is that Anna was a person in need of help and pissing on someone's grave sucks. But wait, she's not buried yet. I see from your post that you have sympathy for Anna. Even if a person feels nothing about her death, talking trash about her sucks but that's just me. People are entitled to their opinions.

I guess I just don't understand the part where just because a person is dead that you have to change what you say about them. If I said she was a skank before she died I'm not going to change my opinion of her and not say so just because she died. No one, I think, is glad that she is dead but just because she is doesn't mean that all of the negitive talk about her should stop and only the good things should be pointed out. She is what she is and just because she's dead, it ain't gonna change.

Like I stated to Tweety, it's different philosophies. Some people feel it's inappropriate to trash the dead at least so soon. Others think it's fine. Not a matter of changing an opinion, just a show of respect. If someone wants to call Anna a skank or a crackhead now that's their right, just not my bag. A lot of people have also lost loved ones in the way Anna died and feel sympathy for the woman. I've found that most people regardless of how they felt about her before, do see the tragedy in this. To each his own I guess.

I see your point. To me the tragedy in this is she put her self in this situation. It's hard to have sypathy for celebrities who live the lifestyles that they do. Brittney Spears is a perfect example. All the money in the world, a whole bunch of people that would help her out in a heart beat yet she can't stay in rehab for more than 2 hours. It's hard to have sympathy for people that don't want to help themselves.

That's the disease part of it. They can't help themselves. If you have a chance, listen to Craig Ferguson's take on this that Janice posted. Both funny and moving.

I'll give you some on that. There have been many that have been able to help themselves just like there are those that can't. If you want it bad enough, you'll do something about it. I guess the bottom line would be don't get into that situation in the first place. Surround yourself with the right people who are actually looking out for you more than they're lookin out for your checkbook.

That was a great take by Ferguson. His part about "you have to take responsibility for yourself" was 100% right in my eyes!! Good for him for being able to realize that he needed help.

Good point there. Unfortunately many of these celebs surround themselves with yes men who don't have their best interests at heart. Elvis and Marilyn come to mind. Of course most of these people would be out of a job if they actually did try to take a stand.
