View Full Version : Would any of you ever take a cruise or fly over an ocean?
catlover79 02-20-2007, 02:50 PM I would never go on a cruise!! Large bodies of water terrify me, and besides so many people seem to get ill. Same goes for flying across an ocean. The thought of being thousands of feet up in the air with nothing but water below just freaks me out. I once flew from Cleveland to Toronto and back, and flying over Lake Erie for 45 minutes was bad enough!!
phoebe7165 02-20-2007, 03:06 PM I've never been on a cruise but I've been on a gambling boat a couple times. Gambling is illegal in FL so it goes 3 miles out to international waters. As far as flying, I've flown to Europe twice. I love flying anyway, so it doesn't bother me to fly over water.
swedeace 02-20-2007, 03:39 PM I've never been on a cruise, but it would be cool to check out one day. I have flown across the ocean to Europe three times (makes it a total of six travels back-and-forth across the ocean).
Brieannas21 02-20-2007, 03:48 PM I've done both and it wasn't a big deal. On the cruise ship you'll never know that you're moving until you go out and feel the wind blowing.
Holly 02-20-2007, 04:11 PM i've been on cruises when i was younger they are alot of fun i love the ocean exc but there is wierd people on the ship ...i dont like flying my stomach never agree's on the plane:-) But i'd go again, if i had the money..hehe!!:D
I've never been on a cruise either but I do go out on Kentucky Lake in a Bass
Boat every summer and I can't swim. And its never bothered me, I guess it
just depends on your mindset.
Czas na Zywiec 02-20-2007, 04:36 PM We'll I'd never get home if I couldn't cross an ocean. Planes are usually high enough that you can't tell whether you're over land or water cause you're usually above the clouds. The one time you can see land in transcontinental fligths is when you're just taking off or flying over Greenland going to and from Europe.
PZelda 02-20-2007, 04:55 PM I've flown over the ocean to go to the UK before -- so that was two transcontinental trips. And if I play my cards right, I'll be going to southern California next month and staying in a hotel that is a ship. It's not a cruise ship, so it's not the same thing.
Really, the only thing that bothers me is getting decapitated in a horrific car accident. I am NOT scared of flying at all -- I've been flying for the last 17 years. If anything, I am more leery of flying on small planes than regular airline planes. At least when you're in an airline plane, you can go to the bathroom if you need to, but if you don't go before you get on a small plane, you're f*cked. I used to have to fly back and forth across the state VERY regularly in a small plane for eight years while I was still in school, and I can't even begin to figure out how many miles that would be total. I would do 400 miles round-trip in one weekend, so it adds up quickly.
Brad Russ 02-20-2007, 05:01 PM I'd do both. I have many phobias, but neither of those are one of them.
Chelsea 02-20-2007, 05:25 PM Not a problem, would do either in a second.
Dutabi84 02-20-2007, 06:28 PM Definitely. I've flown over the ocean, and it was just fine. And I'd definitely go on a cruise if I had the cash.
*MIBabe03* 02-20-2007, 07:07 PM Kind of funny, but my parents are going on their first cruise this Sunday. My mom's boss is paying for the whole thing. My parents are really excited.
Brian Damage 02-20-2007, 11:24 PM Did plenty of that stuff in the Navy, I am done. lol

ITA agree about small planes. They terrify me. Especially when I think of what happened to Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly & Big Bopper. Especially since Ritchie Valens had a fear of flying...:(
dawsongirl 02-20-2007, 11:47 PM I'll never go on a cruise. I have no desire to be stuck on a ship or to get sick. Screw cruises.
I have flown over the Pacific to get to Hawaii. It's definetly better if you sleep through it. As for small passenger planes...those things crash too much for me. NEVER fly on one of those. I don't need to get somewhere that bad.
GoldenGirlsFan92 02-20-2007, 11:52 PM I'm going on a cruise this summer, and I have never been on one. I think it will be fun.

Finally someone who think cruises suck! they do nothing to do a waste of $$$$$. I went on a cruise to Mexico and the room was small and the bathroom was super small and dirty! Mexico was nice though.
dragster58 02-21-2007, 05:47 AM I flew over the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans so many times, it's not funny anymore!!! You get used to it after your 5th flight.....I saw night become day instantly once on a trip from Australia to the EU and it's SIMPLY AMAZING!!...and you NEVER get used to jet lag tho. Never taken a cruise.......................yet!
80sTrivia 02-21-2007, 06:57 AM I have been on several cruise ships and have flown over various oceans over the years. I've been travelling since I was a young child, so I guess it never really bothered me! :)
Chocoholic 02-21-2007, 10:48 AM I wouldn't mind going on a cruise. I'm terrified of flying though.
Sterling Holobyte 02-21-2007, 10:50 AM Just got back a couple weeks ago flying over the Pacific to/from Hawaii.
It wasn't too bad, aside from some turbulence coming back.
I know what you mean though. I was not thrilled with the idea of flying over there. This was my first flight since 9/11. But I felt a little better when I saw a bunch of US troops getting on the plane. I figured eh, no one's going to try anything on this flight.:D
There's really no difference between flying over land and flying over water. There's just less to look out from the windows.
I don't know, I just don't get people who are afraid to travel because of 9/11. That was over five years ago, and there are flights going around the world every day.
Anyways, I've flown across the Atlantic ocean several, several times. I've lived in Europe twice (England & Germany) and gone over to Denmark more times than I can remember. There's nothing to be afraid of. Nothing's gonna happen.
I haven't gone on a cruise yet, but I'd really love to. I've been on several boats, going across the North Sea, Agean, and Carribean. I love the water. Sorry, this is one post I really can't relate to. :)
Sterling Holobyte 02-22-2007, 03:18 PM There's nothing to be afraid of. Nothing's gonna happen.
I'm sure that's what the people on those planes on 9/11 and any other plane that has crashed since they were invented thought too. They thought it was just another day. Just another flight.
No one can say what will or will not happen.
ArtSpooner92 02-22-2007, 03:19 PM i would go on a cruise, and definitly fly over water, flying is awesome
i have and will always fly over water

It's the same as driving in your car on the freeway, you never know if you're going to get into a accident that could be fatal. Everyone take chances everyday. No difference between flying and driving.

Yeah, but there is a little difference. You're not flying the plane, unless you're the pilot of course;), so you have no control of the situation. I guess you could say it is like riding a bus or a train, but even then it is not exactly the same. If something goes wrong on a bus or train you aren't going to plummet 30,000 feet to the ground.

But while driving you have no control over the person who's driving in front, back and side of you. 6 years ago my mom was in a horrible auto accident that totaled her car. A woman ran a stop sign and slammed right into my moms car. Crushed the whole front and passenger side of my moms car, my mom was in bed for nearly 2 months because she hurt her back and still has horrible back pain to this day. When I was 5 a 18 wheeler almost ran us ran us off the road. Till this day my mom is deathly afraid of 18 wheelers. When I was 10 my dad and I were going down the highway when a cement truck almost ran us off the side of a highway. Just so happened we spun around and that kept us from going over and off of the highway. So you can never know when some idiot will run right into you.

You're just selling yourself short if you're gonna sit and worry about what could happen. The chances of something as bizzare as that happening again are slim to say the least. It happened over 5 years ago, and there have been uneventful flights every day of those 5 years. I've been on several of them. I repeat, nothing's gonna happen.
I thought about becoming a flight attendant when I finished college. I love to fly, and I do not waste time worrying about what could happen. Instead I work at a bank. Local banks are held up all the time - one of my friends had a gun in her face just a month ago. But we don't stay at home curled up because someone might come in and rob us. The chances are very slim, and if someone's really determined to do it, then it's out of our control anyway. Worrying doesn't really do anybody any good.

Yes. Been on many flights over the water. Both across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Been on many cruises as well, but none across the Atlantic. First one comes up in May. From what I understand, once we leave the Bahamas, we have six days before we sight land again, which will be the Canary Islands. Actually, I have enjoyed the sea days on the other cruises I have taken. As I don't do much more than sleep and eat on those days.
