I'm pretty sure it's DAY.

Here are the lyrics which I copied from a fan site:
Who can turn the world on with her smile
Who can take a nothing day,
And suddenly make it all seem worth-while?
Well it's you girl and you should know it,
With each glance and every little movement,
You've shown it.
Love is all around no need to waste it.
You can have the time,
Why don't you take it?
You're gonna make it afterall-.
You're gonna make it afterall-.

i do believe its "you can have the TOWN, why don't you take it?"
I had always thought the word was "date". However since I read the lyrics here, the word "day" seems to fit better. I have not seen it in awhile so I may be mistaken but when the singer sings the line, "who can take a nothing day...", I think on the screen Mary is walking with a group of children. Like a girl scout troup or some kind of group. If the line said "date" then I think it would have shown Mary walking with a man wearing a suit. (Mary would have only dated a high-class executive type.)
