View Full Version : Ever been made fun of because of your name??
catlover79 02-19-2007, 01:15 PM My first name is Monika. It's pronounced like Monica, but spelled with a "k" as a nod to my German relatives.
When I was a kid I was called Hanukkah Monika (even though I am not Jewish) or Harmonika (ha ha).
My senior year in high school was when the whole Clinton/Lewinsky thing started. So not only did people call me Monika Lewinsky, I had people saying to me, "Hey Monika, where's Bill?"
Number 9 Dream 02-19-2007, 01:35 PM I teased for my last name ALL my life. I have a unique last name (and my first name Kristel is spelled uniquely too, but I was never really teased for that like my last name).

I know a Kristel!! That is also the German spelling. And she too has had to correct people on the spelling all her life (and so have I)!
Number 9 Dream 02-19-2007, 01:40 PM :) Cool! Yeah, my family is Estonian, so I guess it fits! :) My Dad wanted all of us named with K's. Back in the 80's when I was growing up, it was a little more odd than it is today, but it wasn't too bad. I got teased for my last name more than anything.

swedeace 02-19-2007, 02:03 PM During the middle school years, kids loved to alternatively mess names with sexually-related terms. I remember a couple of boys would say "Moner-Boner." I hated that. Childish kids! Ugh....
Nighthawk76 02-19-2007, 02:09 PM No, I was never made fun for being named Michael.
Jo_Luvs_Ketchup 02-19-2007, 02:31 PM Not my name directly but teachers in school would for some reason call me "Kelly Belly" and everyone would laugh. Me being the fat kid was no help either. I haaaated it!!!
rusyd 02-19-2007, 03:50 PM All throughout my childhood. My name is Alexandra and I go by Alex and I was teased all the time for my name.
Brian Damage 02-19-2007, 04:56 PM I am convinced that no matter what your name is, a kid can make fun of it. lol

i go to a school with a girl that has your name, and "kelly belly" is her nickname that she chose, as well as her myspace name.
people don't make fun of my name, but teachers never say my last name right. and on the first day of school (and during award ceremonies and events), someone will always say it wrong and everyone will laugh. it's very annoying.
Superstar 02-19-2007, 09:14 PM I used to get made fun of for my last name a lot. Not so much anymore.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 02-19-2007, 09:27 PM Being 'Crystal Bell', I got it all the time, as I still do. 'Ding a ling' 'ding dong' 'cow bell, etc. Ive heard it ALL. Not to bad anymore, now I usually get Tinker, which I like lol. And a lot of customers feel the need to be all.. 'CRYSTAL CLEAR', because clearly I have never heard that one before.

That reminds me of two fraternal twin classmates I had in middle and high schools. They were Shannon Bell and Crystal Bell, but I don't remember whether Crystal was called "Crystal Bell" all the time. She may have....
Hollow 02-19-2007, 10:18 PM when i was younger kids used to make a slight alteration in my last name so that part of it was synonymous to the word garbage. it doesnt happen anymore though since i and my peers have a more expanded vocabulary and know that my last name is a common noun meaning something really awesome, at least in the context of having it as your name, and i get complimented on it a lot. ha it's not anything obscene or offensive but people have described it as "hardcore".
Central Perk 02-19-2007, 10:30 PM Benjamin Franklin. And some people would pronounce my name Bengerman...yeah. They didn't really bother me too much. Ben Franklin was quite brilliant.
With Ball for a last name, well, you can figure out the jokes.
Karen* 02-20-2007, 01:16 AM Well my first name is pretty common but my last name is really obscure so it occasionally gets poked fun at, LOL.
dawsongirl 02-20-2007, 01:19 AM I think I was harder on my own name than anyone else was.
PZelda 02-20-2007, 01:35 AM Well, I have a VERY short surname that gets messed up a LOT. One time when I was in eighth grade, I had my picture taken for the newspaper. In the caption for my picture, they TOTALLY butchered my surname in a way that I thought was not possible, and people were teasing me about that for weeks. ****ing stupid town newspaper.
freshprinceofLA 02-20-2007, 02:51 AM My name is Leonard you know its pronounced le-nerd but some how teachers pronounce my name wrong! Some people pronounce it wrong on purpose! damn but I really don't care anymore
Courtnee 02-20-2007, 08:07 PM My last name has two "p"s in concecutive order [__pp_] and everytime I spelt it out in front of my class in elemterary school, everyone would snicker.
p-p...get it. Har-effing-har. :grrbald:
dawsongirl 02-20-2007, 11:32 PM I got teased a little bit in the 1st grade for my first name, which no one can pronounce correctly; though, it is quite common, the way I say is not; and my last name, though never made fun of, no one can spell it correctly, no one...
You pronounce it TAR-a or TEAR-a?
Chocoholic 02-21-2007, 11:08 AM When I was a kid, my nickname was Krissy and in middle school some kids, mainly boys, thought it would be fun to call me "Pissy Krissy". I'll never understand how kids can be so cruel :(
TVFactFan 02-21-2007, 01:19 PM I was called Solomon Grundy
