TV show aired on another network and say GOOD THNGS about it? I'm asking because I was watching growing Pains the other night and Ben was talking about how much he loved the Cosby Show. And it confused me because it was a NBC show. So has there been any other situations where a TV show mentioned another show in a POSITIVE WAY that was on another Network?

What about the Gong Show? It was mentioned plenty of times by different shows on different networks.

Well actualy I would like to know if any other sitcom mentioned another sitcom in a positive way or was that the only time in sitcom history when Growing Pains did it

If you are talking strictly about sitcoms, none jump to mind right away, but I am sure there were a few.

On Barney Miller, a suspect told Wojo that he wanted to get home in time to watch All In The Family, Maude, Rhoda and Phyllis with his wife. Those are all CBS shows and Barney Miller was an ABC show.

I know this one is a drama and not a sitcom, Solomon, so forgive me. On the ABC drama Family, the wife decided to make herself a snack as there were still a few minutes to go before Mary Tyler Moore came on. Again, an ABC show referring to a CBS show.

Those are the only ones that come to mind now...

I've heard the Golden Girls mentioned, but can put my finger on where at the moment.

I heard that once on an early episode of SIENFELD they mentioned MURPHY BROWN; and Kramer auditioned for a role on it. MB was on CBS and SIENFELD was on NBC.

I don't know if this counts; but on the ALL IN THE FAMILY episode where the Jeffersons moved in; in one scene Archie was talking to Mrs. J and he said "I guess you didn't watch JULIA last night". (something like that)
JULIA was on NBC and AITF was on CBS.

No that wouldn't count because Arcie was just asking because Louise was black not because he thought it was a good show which is why she responded by saying-"Did you watch Doris Day?

On a second or third season episode of Mad About You, all the character's kept mentioning how much they loved watching Saved by the Bell, but both shows were on NBC.

The Golden Girls mentioned the Cosby Show.

I thought of two shows where a character was placed in another show(which was mentioned):
Alf was in Gilligans Island.
"Day by Day" did an interesting play on the Brady Bunch (this is a strange coincidence 'cause I'm now watching "Trapped in TV Guide", AND this ones about trapping people in the Brady Bunch - Joe Nameth ep.

I don't know if this counts but on the growing pains pilot Maggie was humming the Who's the boss? theme song.

Roseanne has mentioned a lot of television series. One that comes to mind at the moment is when NuBecky arrives and she says that Dick Sargent is her favorite Darrin on Bewitched.

I remember that.

But I think Solomon is asking abt a show that mentions another show that aired at the same time. Not years later.

Episode of Bewitched, Uncle Arthur turns into whomever he feels like at the time. He turns into Superman and flies, Samantha yells at him to come down or back. Then she tells him that The Flying Nun isn't gonna like this. Both shows were on at that time.

Good Times- Florida is in the hospital and James mentions Florida liking Redd Foxx, implying Sanford And Son which was on at that time also.

Actually that wasn't really a reference to Sanford and Son because they just mentioned Redd Foxx. He could have been doing some kind of stand up comedy act

I don't know if this counts as saying something good about another sitcom on another network, but I remember on Alice, I can't remember which waitress stormed in Mel's Diner, I think it was Flo, and when Mel saw her, he said, "Well, Welcome Back, Kotter!"

How about in Three's Company when Mr Furley (agitated that he had to come to the trio's apartment to fix something), says, "You can't follow the Brady Bunch when you miss the beginning!" He didn't directly say anything nice about it but obviously he was a viewer so he must have liked the show. :D

What Solomon is trying to find are comments made WHILE THE SHOW WAS STILL AIRING ON ANOTHER NETWORK during its first run. Not a show that is on the air and mentions a show from a long time ago.

Just to note, there are a lot of shows that mentioned Brady Bunch whenever they were trying to be sarcastic or trying to imply something to someone such as being a goody two-shoes, but that is not what Solomon is asking.

For example George Lopez is a current show. So is CSI. They are on different networks (CBS and ABC). If one of these shows mentioned the other show IN A GOOD LIGHT, is what Solomon is talking abt.

Probably because back then, they weren't suppose to name shows on other networks. I knew it was Sanford and Son, that's why James brought the tv into the bedroom so Florida could watch. They didn't televise Redd's kind of Stand up, he swore alot. My Mom seen one of his shows in Reno one time.

Speaking of Good Times:

J.J. made many references about other shows such as Hawaii Five-O, after he told his new g/f T.C. that he liked some McDonald's all while watching the Hawaii Five-O.

Wilona made some reference about going home to watch The Waltons.

James (Sr.) asked J.J. during 1 episode why he shaved his head bald and J.J. said because Kojak was a hit and the bald look was coming in.

On Family Guy, Stewie is seen watching the opening credits of Mr. Belvedere and his family keeps on interrupting him in which he says: "I'm trying to watch Mr. Belvedere!" and then when he still can't hear the show, he screams the show's theme song out loud.

Kojak and Hawaii 5-0 are not Sitcoms so those are not good examples. Your Family Guy example was good though

DOH!!!

Speaking of The Simpsons, does this one count:

The Christmas ep. where Bart, Lisa and Homer go out and try to distract Gary Coleman and destroy all those Funzo toys, only to be caught by Gary Coleman and when Bart and Lisa try to explain the situation, Gary replies to them and says: "This is the biggest rip-off since Webster!"

Does that one count?

On an early episode of Sister Sister, Ray accused Lisa (who was innocent) of denting his car. Out of frustration, she yells, "All right Ray! I did it, I did it, I did it! Now you can call Unsolved Mysteries." UM was still on the air at the time on NBC. Sister Sister was still on ABC at that time.

On Golden Girls there were references to Growing Pains and Facts of Life.
Dorothy: "I can't believe Alan Thicke has his own sitcom", it's not an exact reference, but it's implied.
Blanche: "I liked Tootie from Facts of Life" or something along those lines.
Do those count??

And actually, even if they aired at the same time, it still wouldn't actually count as an answer to your quesiton because "The Brady Bunch" and "Three's Company" BOTH aired on ABC.

But this is a great question, though!

I know that, on "Green Acres", a number of references were made to "The Beverly Hillbillies"...but of course, these were both CBS shows, with the same creator.

I'm not sure if Green Acres ever referenced other TV shows (maybe shows that Arnold liked to watch) besides the B.Hillbillies. Would CBS have allowed it back in those days?
