yankeesfan82 06-13-2007, 11:45 PM Golden Girls - Never Seeing Dorothy's Brother and the fact he was a cross dresser.
The Nanny - Yetta (played by Ann Guilbert) always thinking about The Dick Van Dyke Show. (She was Millie on Dick Van Dyke). Fran's Obcession with Barbara Striessand. And this was a one time thing. Fran commented that Days of Our Lives wasn't the same since "Shane" left. Mr. Sheffield saying that "Shane" auditioned for him once and had a fake English Accent. (The guy who played Mr. Sheffield, who's name escapes me right now played Shane).
Living With Fran (Short lived WB Show) - I found it was so hilarious they cast the guy who played Mr. Sheffield on The Nanny as her Ex-Husband on this show.
That's all I can think of at this later hour.
Ireneparalegal 06-14-2007, 12:07 AM Speaking of people's names constantly being butchered, there was Willona and Alderman (aka BALDerman) Davis on Good Times. He'd always call her Wilhomena, Winifreda, etc. Then the Evans family and Willona called their janitor, Nathan Bookman, a rather large man, all sorts of names. Buffalo Butt, Rhino Rump, Bubble Belly, Booger, etc.
Don't forget my salt sister when Michael would say too many times, "BOY is a white racist word!"
catlover79 06-14-2007, 12:11 AM Don't forget my salt sister when Michael would say too many times, "BOY is a white racist word!"
You're right, and I'm glad they dropped that "catchphrase" eventually. It was so annoying!!
Ireneparalegal 06-14-2007, 12:12 AM You're right, and I'm glad they dropped that "catchphrase" eventually. It was so annoying!!
You know, the reason they had Michael say that was because he was a child. The writers/producers felt as long as a child was saying it, it was "ok". They new the repercussions if an adult said that line continuosly.
comedyfreak 06-15-2007, 01:24 PM The Ultimate running gag.........That Girl!
Ann Marie would be at an audition and the conversation would always lead someone to say That Girl and the camera would do a close up of Marlo Thomas and then go into the theme.
Furienna 06-16-2007, 09:14 PM My two favorite "brit-coms", "Allo allo" and "Keeping up appearances" are full of running gags.
"Allo allo" has for example Michelle always saying "Listen carefully, I will say this only once!". And also, it had Edith saying "René, what are you doing with that servant girl in your arms?", to which René always replied "You stupid woman! Can you not see that she... (followed by the excuse for the day)?" And of course, I can also mention things like Bertorelli always saying "What a mistaka to maka!", Crabtree always getting his French wrong and Herr Flick and von Smallhousen always limping.
"Keeping up appearances" has Onslow saying "Ooooh nice!" and Hyacinth saying things like "The Buckét residence, the lady of the house speaking!" and "It's my sister Violet. She's the one with the Mercedes, a sauna and room for a pony!" And as soon as someone pronounced the last name "Bucket" as it should have been ("Buck-et"), Hyacinth would always say "It's 'Boo-kay!'", even when the situation was so grave, that it was strange, that she even cared about it at the time.

Ohio8 06-22-2007, 10:02 PM Speaking of S&S, there were a couple of running gags involving Julio (Gregory Sierra :eyes:  :eyes:).
Julio would say "buenos diaz, Mr. Sanford" to which Fred would reply, "And beans and disease to you too!" Or Julio would say "buenos naches" and Fred would tell him, "Bones and notches to you too!" Then there was always Julio's goat Chico coming in and freaking out Fred.
Then you had Officer Hoppy who would always mess up slang words, and Officer Smitty would always correct him.
"Then you had Officer Hoppy...." Sample:
Hoppy: "You know, that soul food smells like hammerhocks and black-eyed rice." Smitty: "That's ham hocks and black-eyed peas."
catlover79 06-22-2007, 10:13 PM "Then you had Officer Hoppy...." Sample:
Hoppy: "You know, that soul food smells like hammerhocks and black-eyed rice." Smitty: "That's ham hocks and black-eyed peas."
Hoppy: Everything will be gravy!
Smitty: GROOVY!!
Hoppy: Now we gotta crack.
